but what are you peoples opinions on S/D builds?
Hey people I recently used my leveling tomes to get my Thief from level 56 to level 80.. And since the only PVE I plan on doing is daily dungeons for the gold, I thought i’d ask you people for some advice for a newbie..
I’ve played around 30-40 matches as a d/p thief in Spvp, but frankly I am not really good.. I just end up spamming the black powder combo to go invis and use backstab, which doesnt do enough damage to kill anyone, and I often end up getting bursted down before killing anyone..
This is ofcourse due to my lack of skills..
I am very curious in trying S/D or D/D in WvW. Because some people told me to try things out myself..
But problem is, certain builds requires certain armour, runes and traits..
So what would you people recommend for someone who wants to play WvW (roaming or small groups)? Honestly I dont mind if its bit hard to learn.. As long as it is fun to play and most of all effective… But I would prefer if it was easier to try out..
Thanks alot for any tips!
PS : Is full zerker gear the most common gear to be used?
Hi there Forsving!
Im a little short on time right now, so I’ll only throw the basic information on the table now, and will give you a full guide later on today. (seems like you’re not in that much of a hurry anyways)
Starting off, you’ll need to know Elementalists are one of the trickiest classes in GW2 to play to their full extent, but they can change the tides of a fight anytime, even if still learning (especially if with an experienced team). That being said, 9 times out of 10 you’ll want to use DOUBLE DAGGERS as a weapon set. The build is usually 0/2/0/6/6, with a few little variations (will explain all later).
Gear-wise you want to get as close to Celestial stats as possible. This build has its own rotation which normally goes through as it is, but ofcourse needs to be adapted to situations often.
The idea is to open with air attunement; 4 for a gap close, 5 for a knockback. Then we swap to fire attunement, which grants us might. We use the skill 3 to again close the gap and land it on the enemy (knockback creates a gap about the length of this skill, so its a great combo), followed into a fire 4. We then want to swap to earth attunement while the fire fields are still up, and do a dodge, and use up all of your combo finishers to stack might on yourself. Hopping into Water attunement is only suggested for health sake, if you’re losing too much of it. You normally then repeat the procedure, with little variations. :P
Hope I satisfied your primary thirst, more coming later today
Regards, oRx
That is a very detailed tip! Thank you. I do get a good view on the rotation. I have indeed been aware that Ele’s are the trickiest class.. It didn’t take long to figure that out. But I’d like to think that aswell as being the trickiest class, it is also the class with most potential.
As I said before, I’m a roleplayer and therefor have little experience in PvP expressions… But I’m guessing celestial gear is ascended? Which is really gonna be a pain to get since I really suck at crafting and even with using gw2craft I have numerously failed.
If the recommended set is ascended only, please give me a few tips on runes and exotic gear to begin with once I get back.
Other than that, you’re feedback is already greatly appreciated.
Before I begin, if you don’t feel like reading too much, skip down to the SUMMARY in the bottom.
Hey people.. I’m currently on vacation in USA, but I am really looking forward to coming back to gw2 next month. I have for a long time had trouble staying in gw2 due to lack of content in PVE.
I have never been much of a PvP person due to being too competitive and getting angry when playing poorly. Though after nearly giving up on the game I really didn’t want to quit due to having a lot of friends I’ve made during the last two years.. So I struggled a long to find something else that might help me stick with the game.
I started playing Structured PvP with my guardian, and after finding a good mediation build, I started enjoy it and gradually became better at it. But SPvP felt a bit of a bore and too repetitive and narrow. I wanted something more….
I’m a roleplayer and due to that, in my almost 2 years of ownership of Guild wars 2, I’ve never tried WvW except the mist which I find EXTREMELY boring, since all you do is follow a general for hours…
Unfortunately, before I got a chance to give GW2 a meaningful chance in WvW, I had to go to vacation for 3 months, and wont be back until late February.. But I’m truly motivated to try out elementalist in WvW!
SUMMARY BELOW
So I came here in hope for people to give me advice on good builds for roaming! I’m planning on either roaming alone or with 2-3 friends. What build would you recommend? I’d like to do damage, but if survivability is more important in WvW for elementalist, go for it! That’s why I hope you can tell me!
I’ve watched nearly 20 WvW roaming videos on Elementalist, but honestly I can’t really learn anything from it as I see no real patterns and combos… All I see is : Fire attunement —--> 3 —-> 4 —-> 5 —-> Random attunement —--> Spam all abilities —-> Water attunement —-> Spam all abilities —--> Last attunement —-> Spam all abilities.
So does anyone have a good build and perhaps a guide where I can get some good advice on what to think about when playing an elementalist in WvW?
If not the latter, then I’m perfectly fine with learning it through playing myself!
But more importantly! What weapon combo more preferable : D/D or D/F?
Which runes are most preferable? I’m guessing something that empowers conditions?
Thank you all for your time before-hand!
What you’re looking for is likely the Elementalist, which is a light armored equivalent of a Guardian. Elementalists are great for spreading boons amongst allies and auras too, and are very very tanky for a light class (if traited so). The downside is, you will often be despised in dungeons and fractals if built this way, because however we put it, your damage does suffer for it. Sadly (or luckily for some) GW2 focuses on all players going all-out in damage, and only add a little bit of support, since every man has to heal himself and keep himself alive.
That being said, an Elementalist is your best bet definitely.
Hope I helped, if you need any more help add me in-game!

I really despise the ‘’focus on all players going all-out damage’‘. It destroys variations of gameplay. Though this ain’t no news and it wont help with my arguing about it being a flawed system. Its just sad that it discourages players who prefer to play support roles instead of dps roles…
Though enough complaining about things I cannot change.
What is the focus on PvP then? Does support elementalist work in Spvp or WvW?
Problem is… I am aware that I CAN go full support, but as much as I want to play the role of a support, I don’t want to become useless. I want a reliable and effective support role… But i’m guessing that’s either not possible due to arena-net discouraging supporting or supporting is very limiting..
It really is a shame how it seems like everything is focused on the individual player instead of the groups of players!
Hello people! I’m once again coming back to gw2 after a few months pause. I’m interested in making a full support character, focusing on (like said) only healing, buffing etc. Though I’m uncertain what class has the best support potential.
I already have 1 level 80 Guardian, I do know they are good support classes, but they feel more like an ‘’off-support’’ class. Perhaps there isn’t a class that can properly take on the role of a ‘’full support’’?
Basically I’m looking for a typical kind of ’’healer’’ from other MMOs, though i’ve had this year for a few years, though I am an roleplayer, meaning I roleplay more than I actually play the game. So my experience in the actual gameplay mechanism of GW2 is minimal.
I’m mostly interested in making a light armored class, though I can if needed try something else…
So for a person looking for a class with the highest full support potential, what should I be looking for?
((this goes for both PVE and PVP purposes))
Hey guys, im gonna try and make this quick. I’ve got a level 80 but I can really get into the end-game… Though for other reasons im still here. Now im leveling a thief and im currently level 27. I can’t be kitten d doing hearts and events again so I figured I should try leveling through Spvp and by the time i get to level 80, I should be very good. But im kinda new with thief in pvp. In pve, all I did was stack power and precision and did heartseeker strike = win.
I tried googling for builds, but all the serious and good ones were WvW. I would absolutely love if someone could share a good Spvp build. What is the current best weapon to use? And if there is no best, which do you prefer? Im interested in p/d, but im not sure how good it is in Spvp. So PLEASE share me a link or tell me what weapon is best suited, what traits, what abilities to use? I really appreciate it.
OBS : Im looking for something that isn’t extremely hard to use. Something easy but efficient. Though still I dont want to trade easyness for efficiency!
Hey guys! Before i start i want to say that i support this game in EVERY way! So before you start raging on me or start saying that this isn’t the game for me i want to say that IMHO Guild wars 2 is the BEST MMO available atm. No other mmo has given me such an AWESOME experience! The ’’problem’’ that i’m experiencing could simply be because i have yet to try everything, even the CORE things of the game (like living story).
So this is my FEEDBACK from a player who recently got to lvl 80.
’’Problems’’
As i fought my last mob through lvl 79 and reached level 80 I experienced an incredible amount of success! I finally reached lvl 80! I can finally do the high level stuff! The end content! I know this subject has been talked about before, ALOT. But this is not from a raging kid who thinks the game suck. Simply a huge fan being confused on what to do?
But the first thing that striked me as I ran around in lvl 80 was… What now?
What do i do now? But since i’ve had this game since release (never reached lvl 80 since i took a long break) i’ve already seen the ‘’No end-game content’’ threads and I remember how everyone replied that you do ‘’whatever you want to do’’.
So the first problem i find with Guild wars 2 is the confusion of arriving at lvl 80. In 90% of MMO’s the highest level is the level where you unlock everything do-able. Raids, pvp gear, new worlds, mounts, gear, legendarys etc. While in GW2 It feels as i’ve unlocked nothing?
Nearly everything that can be done in lvl 80 can be done in lower levels?
The only thing im counting on at the moment that could prove to be an extraordinary experience is the ‘’living story’’. Since I arrived in 80 when Arena net has taken a break from the living story.
I’m a PVE guy, but with a game that lacks pve content i feel lost. There is lots of dungeons. But since there is no real good loot in these dungeons they dont feel worthwhile. And dungeons are mostly just rushed… There are always these tactics about standing behind walls to stack up mobs and then rush to the next area (AC).
I just want to know… What do i do in lvl 80? I don’t want to walk around doing quests (hearts) like i’ve done from 1-79…. Like most others i dont want to do the SAME thing i’ve done in 79 lvls. So what exacly does lvl 80 has to offer?
Hey guys, im gonna try to make this topic as short as possible. The title is kinda self-explained. I recently reached lvl 80 with my Guardian and I’ll be focusing on playing PVE : dungeons, fractals, living story etc. I’m very interested in dealing damage as i’m stacking a lot of precision + power.
So could someone link a guide/build for a high dps guardian? Could also use some tips on what kind of stats i should be aiming for?
Power>Precision>Critical chance>Critical dmg ?? (<—- Please make your own kind of this)
Though as i’m aware that Guardians have one of the lowest base health in the game, im not really sure Glasscannon is viable. So perhaps not a build fully focused on dps (but thats the primary focus) but a little bit of surviveability like meditation heals or blocks?
I really appreciate all the time you take to help me out! CHEERS!
It ’’warms’’ me to see all of you telling me about your awesome guilds! Though most of you seem to be on other servers =/ I play on far shiverpeaks and im afraid paying 20 euro when im only lvl 37 isnt that good of a choice. I would maybe consider it if i were lvl 80. And deleting 3 lvl 30+ characters is also not an option for me. So your request makes me all fuzzy inside (lol). But if you’re not on far shiverpeaks i will at the best add you on friendlist for now.
Once again thank all of you!
Yeah, but like i said in the post i want to keep playing, but i need motivation for it. I know Guild Wars 2 isn’t like other mmorpgs. Thats exacly why im asking. Since WoWs end game is mostly pvp or raid. What is Guild wars 2’s end game? What do you do to get the best gear in guild wars? Dungeons? Are there ever any big dungeons or are they all like 5 people normal dungeons?
((Guess i should start by saying im playing on the far shiverpeaks server, cheers))
Before i start i would like to say that i just made a thread in the ‘’players helping players’‘. Why this is irrelevant is because im currently in the phase of deciding whether to stay or quit. If you read the post i made there you might understand abit more of my situation. If not i’ll tell you this.. Im 18 years old and im an active gamer. Im currently lvling an elementalist who at this moment is only lvl 27. Though i have a 26 guardian and a 37 thief, so im not a first timer really.. Im searching for a guild who can help me find the best of this game. Im not telling its not great already. Its AWESOME. I just guess i feel like the lvling is tearing you apart as i find it repetitive and my friends stop playing the game a while back so i guess im a bit lonely, lol.
If i somehow manage to find the ’’light’’ of this game and actually reaches 80 with my elementalist i want a guild who will support me and show me all the stuff there is to do except PvP. How to get gear. Or just in general how you have FUN in the game.
Hopefully one of you will bring me the honor and help me stay!
((Warning: the context bellow as you can see might be long and i understand if you think its too long. But its neccesary to draw you the entire picture. Though to help out people who want to help but dont feel like reading it all, i’ll title further down where i get to the main point))
INTRO
I feel troubled to actually have to come to the forum for motivation…. I bought Guild wars 2 somewhat when it was released.. I never played the first guildwars but played WoW before that. I just came back from about a year pause… From what i remember is that i couldn’t really find a class for me when i quit. I started out lvling my thief charr. But as it reached lvl 35, i like ALWAYS starting doubting if this was the class i really wanted. Believe me its not the class.. I ALWAYS have second doubts in mmorpgs. I lvled a guardian to lvl 25 and after that from what i can remember i quit.
They say that this game doesnt have the same repetitive that WoW does… But imo the lvling and questing in this game is just as repetitive as WoW. You go around doing these quests/hearts + events. When i started a week ago again i decided i was a newbie again and it was best that i make a new character for a fresh start. I had the second doubts again ofcourse but after playing some other classes i decided to stick with my elementalist which to my suprise is SUUUUPER squishy! And atleast where i am now (lvl 26) 1-26 has been tough and i’ve died alot compared to my thief and guardian. Since the class is so squishy and hard to play (atleast these low lvls) im loosing motvation to keep going… My friend played this game with me when the game was released and unlike me he actually reached 80 pretty fast. When i asked him how the late game was like he told me dull and completely boring. (Though he said this with a humerous voice. But he still meant it). I’ve googled and i’ve found that this game doesnt really have a ‘’end game’’.. Unlike world of warcraft when it was released, we had molten core, onyxia etc. Im not that much into PvP as i prefer fighting bosses and sharing my experience with guildies and friends..
MAIN PART
Right.. So i’ll try to make this part short. So im fearing im heading towards the part where im taking a ’’pause’’ (stop playing for a long while). I dont really want to head down that path but im not quite sure what the game has to offer. We dont have raids and im not THAT interested in PvP. So what FUN is there to do in lvl 80? And i dont mean like fun as in jumping around. What does the gamers do at lvl 80? Dungeons? Help me out what i might be able to do at lvl 80 except just sitting around and grinding -.-
Appreciate your help alot!
