That’s exactly what I’m talking about Raven!
Would anyone else like to share?
These need to be fixed, to reward players who are actually useful to their teams instead of rewarding people who are in the right place to stand in the shiny circle. Over the past few weeks I have conducted several tests to find out what exactly earns a player a reward for the various events in WvW.
In several cases I stood back from an attack, didn’t even target and enemy or a gate. Never built siege, basically I wasted space and contributed absolutely nothing. However, at the end I ran inside and stood in the circle and somehow got rewarded with a gold medal for my efforts.
Other times, purely in the name of science, I would do everything in my power to help with an attack. I would drop supply on siege, I would drop my own siege, I would take out the guards, clear the walls, etc. At the end of the attack I would stand outside the circle and about half the time would receive no reward. In my most recent test of this, I spent about 45 minutes firing a trebuchet at Dreaming Bay. Showed up at the end, ran inside, fought a few defenders, took down some siege. And got no reward for the time I invested.
This is a kittened up system. Someone who is totally useless can reap the benefits while the people who are doing something that is worth a kitten get shafted. I don’t want to sound overly whiny, but there has got to be a better way to do the reward system. So, please Anet… just look into it.
My server is dominating WvW right now… it’s bloody boring. Your ideas are fantastic! I would love to see small 5-man groups of Invader NPCs running around trying to cap supply camps. I would love to see a dragon land on top of Stonemist and start knocking down walls. I would love for the guards at the keeps to organize a rebellion that needs to be put down. That sounds like a lot of fun and would definitely help with the shut out matches, which in reality aren’t fun for anyone.
I’m on Blackgate… yesterday in WvW, I ran the jumping puzzle in EB, spent about 2 hours portaling people up to the jumping puzzle with my mesmer. I killed the grub, killed the spirit, killed the grub, killed the spirit, killed the grub, killed the spirit, HOLY KITTENS! AN INVADER! I waved at the invader and then we danced together. His friends showed up and we all danced together. And then they all killed me and I laughed. Then I killed the grub again…
So yeah, totally exciting!
Everyone just wants a good fight. We all want the same thing, a balanced (roughly) match up. I think we can all agree that recruiting different timezones and round the clock players is currently the way to win. Regional servers are often separated into regions in different timezones. NA servers are meant to serve a span of about 5 different time zones, as are the EU servers.
So here’s our solution… Add a few Oceanic servers.
If everyone actually played with other people in their own timezone then it wouldn’t be an issue. Yes, there would still be night players in every zone, but one force would dominate another.
Honestly, the system here is free server transfers. With people (and whole guilds) transferring servers at a whim, the matchmaking systems algorithm is all sorts of kittened up. It’s matching servers based on people who USED to be there. The servers who purposely recruit foreign players to dominate NA server night time… is actually kind of sad. They ruin the fight for not only the other 2 server they are against, but for themselves as well. During early access, my server was facing off against Ferg’s Crossing and Dragonbrand. We stomped them completely and utterly… and it was no fun. Spawn camping is not entertaining.
It’s not a choice, but in my heart… FLAME!
