I know I am waiting for Elder Scrolls Online. GW2 wasn’t as fun as I was thinking it would be. I know I like to craft which for GW2 is a huge gold sink.

Also, I was disappointed largely with the change to the Neco from GW1. I loved being a Necro in GW1.

There are thing I enjoyed about the game certainly, but the game has turned off so many friends and even my wife from playing. It is fun for those that love to play the TP or do dungeons all day long.

ESO will let you do what you want to do. GW2 has me feeling forced to do a single path to 80. If you start as a profession you often will be leveling in those lands. However, there are a fine amount of hearts and just a very simple personal story for you to do.

ES games I often hardly touch the main for a while. Heck, I run into more dungeons and find bandits then sell their stuff off. I have never been poor for long in any ES game.

The fact is that GW2 has some heavy competition coming soon. If they made the economy more enjoyable I might bother. I know my wife doesn’t like playing since the way she pays for armor is by me funding her. GW2 is easy for us at 80, but I knew a lot of people that didn’t find that one path and found themselves getting bored before maxing their levels out.

It wouldn’t hurt to limit how long items can stay in the TP or even limit how much can be put up in the TP.

I don’t want drop/gather rates to increase to some insane amount. That would be far worse the current situation. I would agree with Mesket that I wouldn’t want drop rates to go up either. It would just further what some see as a small problem to be a big problem to everyone.

Gifting isn’t a bad idea. Maybe have a weekly gift for logging in during that week have it be something very small like a random dye or material.
A daily gift for those to be encouraged to say actually log on. Again have it be small.
There are the dailies, but those I see more just get you to keep playing within that day.

I still think lifting the amount of items vendor value and have the vendors sell better quality items. You don’t have to make them the exact same strength as crafted items just a little weaker then say a normal crafted version.

I know myself would begin selling a lot more often right to the vendors for going the TP. I am not to say hike up everything to any extreme. I don’t believe in extreme tweeking. I know I am a bit different, but I call it tweeking if it works. Nerf is what I use for something that really ruins the game all together.

I really don’t want to see the game hurt, but just make it a bit friendlier to those not lucky enough to not have to worry about gold. Although, I haven’t had it to bad. I don’t care much honestly for the legendaries. If people want to put their time in great, but I do see people are having issues there. I don’t know how exactly you would go about that.

Everyone wants proof. Alright, well here is a good example. I tell you start clicking and going down the list.

http://www.gw2db.com/recipes

Those that are arguing real world full blown capitalism. If the majority of goods are sold lower then it takes to make. How long before said manufacture goes out of business?

I will give the fact that if you gather all the mats yourself. You might come out with a profit.

The majority of people that seem to be ok with the current set up is the people that are doing well in it. If Anet isn’t wanting all those gamers as repeat customers. Well, I will say well done on that note. However, if the aim is to capture as much of the market as possible. Then you can’t rely on just one method for players to be happy in.

The one thing that excited me before GW2 came out was the idea of being able to play differently. Now everyone is saying “There is this one way and only way to play the game.” Then you have people saying that it is a sad panda thing. It sounds like a teenager at the other end.

Why does there have to be one way to play? Well, I will answer that one myself. Anet made it that way. However, does it mean the economy is good if only for what I would bet is a minority? Anet hasn’t released how many people have stopped playing. It doesn’t have a monthly fee. So the only reason why you would stop playing. Is that there is some dissatisfied customers.

It isn’t to say I can talk a lot. I like Fallout 3, but not so much Fallout 1&2. Where people that played FO 1&2 don’t like people that played FO3. My sister loves Guild Wars 2. Where me and my wife who have played far more MMO’s and played Guild Wars 1 from the start don’t have that love of GW2.

My wife just doesn’t find it as fun that the only way for her to get by is for me to fund her playing. She did great in playing in GW1, but GW2 doesn’t work for her. I will say that GW2 works for some, but I would like to know from John what are those numbers?

How many have stopped playing? How many accounts are really active? Did those that stopped find the economy and crafting system to be bad?

It seems to be a back and forth on many issues.

I do see everyone talking about Legendaries and the precursors. They are part of the problem. The only crafting that is worth anything is endgame crafting.

If 90% of products in the US were not profitable. Then what would you call that economy? That is a depression. I saw someone call it a capitalists wet dream.

The people saying it works is that top percentage. If they all said what crafting items they were making gold off of. I would bet within a few weeks time. Those items would become near vendor value. On most items vendor value is just high enough to help you pay for repairs or low end up grades to your armor.

Now at endgame it isn’t to bad. I know I am having an easier time then a lot of people that I know. Those that hit level 80 are fine for the most part. I managed to get cooking to max, but do to cost. It hasn’t been worth working on the other crafts.

I do wish we were limited to crafts.

If John is looking at the economy like as in a real world one. I have seen many posters say the same thing. You lack the problems from a real world economy. You don’t see say GM going from making cars to making everything in the market place. What happens when a market is flooded? The goods of that market drop in price. The only thing limiting a further drop in price at the TP is the vendor prices.

I do want to point out this is a game. Not real life, but I do know it has real world implications for Anet. They want to make people by gems. It at least feels like they have left their stand on making most of the money off of expansions.

I know I ran a guild and that does cost considerable gold. The upside is all low level weapons and armor using mostly blues is cheap now. The funny thing is you can spend more in repairs the just buying a new piece of armor.

I know much of the low to mid level items that can be crafted is near worthless. I know I would make stuff and spend a ton of time trying to find a recipe that was worth making.

I know there are people that like things the way they are, but others are saying the same thing. I do see that there are people also on the other side. They are on the high end and doing very well for themselves.

So if someone lets say just bought the game. That person will now have a harder time then that of the people that are already level 80. I know I am having an easier time for being level 80. It doesn’t make me want to keep playing. If I make something. I play an MMO to play with friends. If I did well, but my friends found it to be a gold hole of a game. There are plenty of money sinks if you look around. Also, there are players who aren’t as good. They get killed and sacked with repair costs and costs to port places. GW2 does make you need at the very least new weapons. Those weapons cost gold and my friends understandably want certain say colors for their armor. However, when you add in all the costs. The game stops being as fun for those less fortunate. The funny thing my wife was the more lucky one in GW1. I am far more lucky in GW2.

The people defending the in-game economy is like the captains of industry. The CEO’s don’t want things go change, but the far greater majority is getting more poor by the day. The thing with a game is the poor can easily change and not buy anything else. If they see promise in a game they will go there.

Pre november 15th, the exchange rate was half of what it is now. I paid 6G for extra banks slots – now I would have to pay 11+G. Bank slots are not a luxury item since majority of players require more slots NOT want more slots; so why the kitten are players punished?

Yes players are becoming wealthier, however their bank balance (on overage) does not go up because the money is being used up by buying many items – which are also going up in price. So in the end the average player still has similar gold sitting in their bank account while items are going up in price – Sounds very much like inflation to me.

I totally agree.

The problem is every day those possibilities lower. The trouble is to even make a T-3 item is you need to be a dungeon runner. If you don’t like it. You can’t get the materials to make those items.

They are competing against other game manufactures including Blizzard. I never thought I would be on the side of WoW or Blizzard, but their economy being split up does work.

WoW lasted because it was Fun. I know a ton of people that loved the crafting. A good friend enchanted items while standing outside the AH. They got the materials he got a bit of gold and they got a stronger item.

I made money often by mining ore. I did do weaponsmithing and armorsmithing. I maxed out both and often made a decent amount of money.

I had another friend who sold bags.

We all did this for profit. 90% of what I make and look through the recipes isn’t worth crafting unless for the sole purpose to craft.

We were one big crafting guild. GW2 turned out to be a crafters worst nightmare. I have a friend who went back to Tera which is subscription based.

Why? She found Tera’s economy to be better. She only bought it to play with me in our guild. We all keep in touch through facebook and email, but we have yet to find that one game that fills that need since WoW.

The thing with WoW is the graphics. My guild and friends largely came out of Aion, WoW, and GW1. If a game comes out that has good graphics and is fun for all kinds. That game will win. GW2 makes me sad. My wife and I had a lot of expectations for the game. Anet let us down. However, my wife and I stand on the platform of we don’t like to RP as being poor. We are that in real life.

Playing for the inflationary compensation

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: GaiusJuliusCasear.7253

GaiusJuliusCasear.7253

Inflation is a big deal in GW2 as it destroys the chance of “not so active” players to ever achieve something great. Of course, hard work should be rewarded and legendaries should never be for free or easy to acquire. But have you seen precursor prices? Don’t get me wrong, I wear a full T3-cultural armor, have nearly every color in game and a 150g staff skin etc. I’m fine, I totally am. But have you ever thought about why precursor prices and basicly all other prices are going up and up? It’s called inflation – your money is losing worth every single day. And this inflation is based on exploiting and botters.

Let’s have a look at a casual normal player spending 2-3hours per day on GW2. If he’s doing some instances and/or fractals, he might get up to 5-6g per day (let’s not talk about how boring instances and/or fractals are in the long term). By having a look on the prices and how they evolve, that’s no earnings. This player is playing for the inflationary compensation. He’ll nearly never be able to get a legendary if he doesn’t exploit.

ArenaNet, why don’t you ban those precursor-lvl65-grawl-exploiters? Why don’t you delete those items? Why don’t you bind legendaries on account? Why don’t you do something about the market you created and that’s falling into pieces?

If you don’t care about inflation and such, I’m fine. But if you do, do something before it’s to late – time’s running.

I really do like your points here. I do agree that inflation is a real problem. If they flushed the market. It would fix the current problems. Demand would grow for items. They could then see how many are truly active. Also, if returning players see the economy is improving. They might be tempted to play more.

I know with say Skyrim which is a single player game. I don’t feel poor. I can get almost anything with some work. ESO is coming. If they go BTP like GW2. It will be interesting to see how they deal with the economy, but I am losing faith that Anet knows how to handle the in game economy. Where I have faith that Bethesda/Zenimax will know what to do for those like myself. It isn’t to say they can’t mess it up either. However, I can see ESO being far more vendor selling then TP based.

GW2 is becoming more vendor selling based, but the problem there is that they don’t offer much. The only option is further inflation. Unless, they can manage to make it where crafting can make money.

I am finding playing the market is one of few ways to make a decent amount of Gold. You buy a bunch of one thing with the asking price option. Then you sell it for more. The trouble is. I am not playing Guild Wars 2. I am just playing a market. I would rather larger amount in gold drops or vendors offering more gold for each item and clearing of all current items in the TP. If they make it a max 48hr for bids. The trouble with make your own price is allowed to ask for a lot lower. Now if they make it where you can only ask for near what the current going price.

Example:

Mithril Ore was 50c per piece, but then has dropped to 30c. However, the asking price is far lower. Which people keep lowering their price just to sell in turn. So the things that people are use to making money in MMO’s is not working.

So the only option is play with a ton of other characters for one character to have the best of everything? Anet will have other MMO’s to face. Their answer is to let the majority to remain poor. The ones who keep playing get the most. Well that is if you find a good guild that will do dungeon runs all the time for you to get what you need to make money.

Other MMO’s I have been easily to make in game money without having to do a ton of dungeons.

Kam, ok let say this is the real world which everyone seems to be talking about.

If company X makes something for say $5 it then sells it for at least $10.

Where say the Guild Wars 2 model is :

Player makes Sword for 3g, but it will only sell in the TP for say 1.5g. Why craft?

WoW lasted as long as it has do to that economy difference. It is Fun. One poster had a good point. There is more money pits and not enough money generators. There needs to be a balance. I am not sure if you work retail or any personal business like that in a large town or city, but I do the customers demand certain things. We meet those demands to make more money.

Anet is a business. The upside is there is a sucker born every day. Sure people will buy it, but how many will continue if they feel the point is a bit narrow. There are more then one kind of people. There are the people that love to just grind through a game. There are the people that love to struggle (mainly rich people trying to feel what it is to be poor).
There are people that like to play the market.
There are people that are in a little of most of those, but really don’t care to feel poor.

If it were just me saying the economy is bad then I would accept that in a heart beat. Yet, if you read post after post. There is a problem.

Those that worship Anet currently will just look to say the economy is fine.

However, you can’t dismiss that there are people voicing their displeasure with the economy.

Almost everything in the TP now is so low and there is so much of it that it isn’t worth selling hardly anything to the TP. However, the vendor prices are to low to make anything really off anything. So you only make what an item is valued by the vendors now.

I am guessing your pretty well off Kam. I can’t see you being poor.

It is like I pointed out. They want to sell expansion packs to as many people as possible to make the most amount of money. There are those that will remember that economic experience. My wife really doesn’t want to play. She hardly could afford decent gear at her level. I on the other hand have been always a person that will go ore farming.

Ore and Wood is the only money makers, but that is now starting to drop as well.

If this was a real world economy it would be called a depression.

Also, I would like to add. Do you think there would be any businesses if they could only at most make say 5% off something they made? Would Anet make and give GW2 for only a 5% profit?

For all the time you put into the game to get what you do. The payoff is so minor in comparison to many other games.

The point of a game is to be fun. If you want realism. Then you can take away the magic. Small little girls can’t wield huge weapons. Cat people don’t real. People don’t really turn into animals and mice like creatures don’t invent most of our tech.

So what is the point of comparing to the real world? We all did get a RPG right? I make a noble, but I am poor as the street rat that I made up. So if you want to talk of realism. This really is the wrong game.

The point I was making is simple a good flowing economy makes people like me want to play. Where a bad economy makes me not want to.

Guild Wars 2 is competing against many other MMO’s. It makes more sense to make the players/ people paying bills happy. I know me and my wife bought Every Guild Wars title out there, but this is the last. We loved the Guild Wars 1 Necro. The Necro wasn’t that great this time around. Guild Wars 1 economy sucked, but was fine at the time.

However, we have since played other games. I have played some good and some very bad.

I know it sounds strange, but it is fun as a real poor person to have money even if not real. Yet, it isn’t that fun to feel as broke as in real life.

Also, if you want to go real world model here. Detroit has more people leaving the coming do to a really bad economy. I know my entire guild along with friends and my wife have all stopped playing the game simply do to the economy. It plays into the fun. We like to craft, but not craft to lose money. It costs so much just to craft then you put it in the TP for -2g because no one will buy it.

I on the other hand say would make weapons years after WoW came out. I was still selling mid grade swords and axes for a profit. A profit isn’t a loss.

It seems you lose at every angle when it comes to gold in game aside just buying it with gems.

I had done better then my wife, but I really did a lot of mining and tree cutting. Which seems one of few ways to make money on a consistent basis.

We will not be buying any expansions since it isn’t fun. We will likely buy games coming out that show themselves as being fun. If however say Guild Wars 2 turned around and started being better with a decent economy. Then I would be fine with that. I still play here and there, but my wife refuses to play. Heck, I have offered her 3g to play. However, that is a days earnings. So it in turn is decreasing what fun it is to play the game. I at one time wanted to be a person to unlock all the dye colors and all the stuff with only buying a small amount of gems to exchange for gold.

I see some people don’t like what I have to say, but I am not on any band wagon. I like to ride on my own. I think for myself. Yet, I do see tons of people and known even more people that have stopped and won’t play for a lot of reasons. The reason that tops them all is the economy.

I will be honest. A good economy makes me want to play. WoW had a good economy depending on the server of course.

I am poor in real life. So why would I want to role play as poor? They need to increase the amount the vendors will buy stuff for. That is a huge problem for me. I know I am waiting to see if another MMO that is coming out will have a better Economy set up. I know the series so I do have a bit more faith in them for making a better Economic model. I know they are trying to get people to buy gems, but it makes me not want to even bother when they come out with an expansion.

WvW que problems can be solved with something I know people won’t like. If they forced Guild & people to other servers to balance them out. Than every server would not have a que problem or at least not as bad as one. Now if they made more Servers and split lets say minor league servers and major league servers up. It would also help to allow more players into WvW. The thing is they need to balance out how many people can be in based on how many people are in from another server.

If you have say 50 taking on 20 than it is an obvious end to that WvW.
Again, I know people won’t like the idea, but it would make WvW a lot better.

A good ranger with high precision and high strength will do a ton of damage. The short bow shoots a lot faster. I am only level 16 and was taking down people easily in WvW. My bow was lvl 12 and hitting 250-350-450 critical hits. My critical hit percentage is 44%. Which means I have almost a 50/50 shot of going crit. I am a horribly low level. Now imagine that at level 80 doing say 1300 crits. That is a bit much. However, ranged units have a natural advantage in war. Yet, if you get a melee that flanks me while my attention is in front. Than I am dead in seconds.

I do agree with a clean WvW. It isn’t a fun Multi-player game if you have cheaters there.

Idea to solve WvW imbalances.

I am from the Isle of Janthir and the beginning was fine. It wasn’t one sided in most cases. The last few days have been terrible. We have not just gotten beat a little, but to a point of not really caring to play unless we can pick up a decent amount of people. I can’t tell you how many I hear “Oh I am done.” One of the main guys in my guild changed servers. I can’t really blame him. It is really depressing to be on a server that gets killed. I do understand the wanting to be on the best server, but they need to limit how many can transfer to another. Also, can Anet stop people tranfering that is high levels when still a good part of the server has yet to hit 80. We are losing a lot of our best players. We went from a mid card server in two days to a rock bottom server. That is a very big difference.

I think one thing that would make WvW a lot better would be.

1. Home Server map advantage – If your one of the invading servers than you either have a loss of health or some larger disadvantage.
2. If a server is beating two other servers pretty bad like in the current WvW match that Isle of Janthir is in. The two losing servers could say get “reinforcements” NPC’s to help re-balance the map as we don’t have people fighting.
3. Allow archers to shoot people close to the wall. Right now you have to jump on the ledge and take the chance of being pulled off. I was pulled off of a wall far enough up that anyone down below shouldn’t of had the ability to pull me down. I am ok with an Ice storm or something like that, but no chain pulls off a wall.
4. goes with the first. Home Server gets more resources from each delivery or at least they should go faster.
