I’m not asking if it’s easy, I already got it once for this month on my 80, but since they reset and all I’m doing right now is leveling my Ranger, this achievement just makes me want to avoid events, on the chance I might get instagibbed by something stupid

Well, find a group of friends to play with at the time you want to play.

Most people are sleeping on your server.

Anet cant do anything about peoples sleep cycles. There are people on your server that play at 3:30, i suggest you find them and, yanno group with them.

Rofl

Why would I need a group of people just to level up? We wouldn’t all be the same level for very long, anyway

I never had this problem in WoW, or any other MMO. It’s not like I’m Raiding or PvPing, I’m just trying to get a Class to 80, but I have to avoid half the quests in the game

Zone after zone is almost complete devoid of any players, whatsoever. Yet there are countless group events…

On my first level 80, people were like “lol ur GOIN 2 FAST STOP THE RUSH!!! WOW PLAYER@@@”, so I can excuse this, to a degree. But there is no excuse now. Plenty of players are level 40 and above (many people such as myself have at least one 80), but these zones are still completely empty

The lack of a subscription fee lets Guild Wars 2 get away with a lot. No endgame content, terrible voice acting, poor class balance, etc., are all to be expected from a buy to play game. But when you can’t even level up without avoiding half the game, there’s a problem

The first time I went through this zone there was a million other people running around the centaur camps area in the northeast, so there was no issue in getting the last Skillpoint

Now that the game is empty, it’s a different story, though. There’s about 500 Centaurs clustered around the skill point summon (which is to kill a veteran mob), and each of these 500 Centaurs has a 0.0001 second respawn timer. They litereally spawn faster than you can kill them

Is this a joke?

Edit: LOL, don’t worry guys, I got the skill point again. All I had to do was wait around for enough people to show up, since in Guild Wars 2, skill = having enough warm bodies

And I’d also like to point out that you don’t have to do the achievement all on the same character. You can do bits of pieces of it on a different character.

So make an alt, and park it in the noob areas and have it there just for events. Then do the rest of the achievement as you play regularly.

But honestly I’m having trouble believing the claim that you can’t find events being done in mid to high level areas.

Oh okay, thanks

Doing 5 events for the daily achievement is horrible. Mid-High level zones don’t have many events going on, and you have to solo most of them, because the zones are empty. This is especially bad at late/early hours. And I don’t want to have to go to a low level zone where I get downleveled and get less xp than I should from everything, just to finish this daily quest

Ganadorf.3460

I like how in Guild Wars 2, every map is a rectangle. I understand that a certain artistic license has to be taken when making zones in a game (especailly an MMO), that often leads to a zone being surrounded by mountains and/or large hills, to separate it from other zones. We see this in other MMOs all the time, such as WoW. But unlike these other MMOs, Guild Wars 2’s world is apparently made of rectangles, that all awkwardly fit in this weird looking box puzzle

Why Are Risen So Uniquely Unsatisfying To Fight?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ganadorf.3460

Ganadorf.3460

For such a prevalent enemy, it seems to me that Risen are notably unsatisfying to fight. There are a great number of enemies in this game that seem to have more enjoyable combat. Centaurs, Inquest, even Dredge can be fun. But Risen seem to be numerous, colorless, meatshields

For one it’s not satisfying to have to beat away on mob enemies like this for ridiculous amounts of time. It’s fun to fight and kill large groups of weakish enemies. But these just seem to be weakish enemies with huge health bars. Fighting them is a long and not gratifying, and seems weirdly out of place among the other mobs in the game, with the exception of dungeon mobs (which are also unsatisfying bullet sponges, but have the advantage of being dangerous). It’s probably not just the health bars. I can’t imagine this is just me. For whatever reason the Risen combat just feels kind of meh. What do you think?

Ganadorf.3460

Lack of Tanks and Healers, combined with slow and easy combat in an overall easy game leads to this . Nothing but people swarming around all day

In WoW, for Arenas and Rated Battlegrounds you have to have everyone in Skype (Or vent, teamspeak, etc), and everyone has to be skilled as well, if you want to get anywhere. Dedicated Healers, and actual roles for different Classes/Specs means that kill targets are a huge deal. Interrupting/CC etc is crucial in WoW too, but calling targets is a big part of the game that just honestly doesn’t matter in Guild Wars 2

In Guild Wars 2, there’s so much random AoE, and a complete lack of healers, that you could be the Rank 1 SPvP team without even using voice chat

Level 80 Player's Problems With the Undead (Orr/Risen) Zones

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ganadorf.3460

Ganadorf.3460

I think they made the zone to be underwater, then decided that since no one likes underwater content, they made it land level, and then wrote the lore around that

Lol.

- I love underwater content.

- I like Orr – it’s not the prettiest zone, but it’s full of fascinating things and ancient ruins. I really like the remains of coral and other stuff that suggests it’s been at the bottom of the sea for the last two hundred years.

- I agree that lots of contested waypoints is inconvenient, but it does make it feel like a genuine invasion. The further into Orr you go, the fewer players and allies you find, and the more enemies you come across.

- I agree that Risen are boring – never been a fan of zombies. However, they do fit the theme and it’s not like they are going to be the only level 80 content.

- Am I right in thinking Orr is not the only level 80 zone? I see a lot of unexplored content on my map (38% right now) and I don’t think those bits are all levelling areas.

Frostgorge Sound is also 70-80, and it’s a fairly decent zone, but you’ll be forced into Orr repeatedly, for your story quests

Level 80 Player's Problems With the Undead (Orr/Risen) Zones

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ganadorf.3460

Just one comment about your complaints…

Orr was sunk in a great cataclysm and was under the ocean for a couple centuries. Then Zhaitan rose it. So all that coral and stuff that seems just “Attached”? That really WAS just “attached”. Sure stuff may have grown around some of it, but still, most of the oceanic stuff grew on top of things.

It wasn’t meant to be underwater… it WAS underwater. It’s just not anymore.

I think they made the zone to be underwater, then decided that since no one likes underwater content, they made it land level, and then wrote the lore around that

Level 80 Player's Problems With the Undead (Orr/Risen) Zones

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ganadorf.3460

Ganadorf.3460

I liked the leveling in Guild Wars 2, until it became all about the Risen. Mostly because the zones you level in after the 50-60 zones are just really unplesant. Here’s a few issues I have with them

- The zones are basically empty of other players during most hours of the day
- Undead (“Risen”) everywhere, for like three zones (30 levels), with little to no variety
- Almost every Waypoint is contested. Combine this with the lack of Mounts, and getting from point A to point B in GW2 becomes a major hassle
- Unusually high respawn rates (this actually seems to be pretty much everywhere in the game to a degree, but feels even worse in these zones)
- They’re pretty ugly zones, with weird Oceanic stuff covering everything on land… almost like the zone was originally intended to be underwater, then they just plopped the terrain down on land-level at the last minute
- Undead catapult things shooting you from miles away with no provocation
- Mobs are packed (really packed) in, oftentimes there will be 3-4 mobs in the same space that one mob would occupy in other zones
- Lots of bugged/broken events (dynamic or not, these are just a hassle when they can’t be finished)
- Random “Veteran” NPCs, which, while easy to kill, still take more time to kill, and only serve to waste my time and annoy me
- Events are often longer than in earlier zones, but without an adequate xp rate to justify the added time it takes
- Events often tell you to kill a “group” NPC, despite the fact that you’re the only player within a hundred miles (not very “fluid”, or “dynamic” there). These can usually be solo’d, but again, it’s not worth the time it takes to kite them around, as they give little xp

On a personal note, I also found these Undead zones to be aesthetically unappealing. I don’t mind Undead places usually, like all the Undead stuff in WoW was cool, but these zones in GW2 just don’t look good at all (imo), and make me not want to play the game

When I hit 80 in Guild Wars 2, I wasn’t excited that I was max level, and could do the real content, like I was in other MMOs. I was just relieved that I was done grinding in those zones… this experience has also made me very reluctant to level another Class

My personal opinion: Leveling Is Disappointing Past Level 50

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ganadorf.3460

Ganadorf.3460

The Story quests get really bad around level 50. Every single one is just about those Risen guys, and it’s just really boring, with quests that seem to drag on forever, just going on and on about the Risen

I feel like the leveling zones get a lot worse too. I like the zones until like level 60, the zones for levels 60-80 were pretty lackluster. Frostgorge Sound was decent (not great though), but the other ones were just not fun, and they suffered from the same thing as the story quests — RISEN risen, risen, risen

So to clarify something though… “map completion” rewards a big chunk of xp? So if I was level 40 and went back to the 1st zone, I will still get ??? xp?

You’ll get xp, but it’s not necessarily worth it, for the time it takes to get to every point of interest, waypoint, vista, and heart

So you don't give me any quest hubs for my own level

I agree, this was poor design, but it’s still easy to counteract. First thing to do is to level in a second zone, for the same level range. Also make sure you gather every gathering node, as this gives good xp for no effort, and little time

This is an Asian grindfest though, so naturally, the fastest way to level once you’ve done the quests, is to grind mobs. Try to find mobs that are out of the way, and off the beaten path, as in Guild Wars 2, you get more bonus xp per mob, for the longer it’s spawn has gone untouched. For this reasonl you don’t want to stay in one place for too long, but move around the map grinding mobs around your level. Never go into a zone that downgrades your level, as this will gain you xp at a much slower rate

It’s not an Asian grindfest, it’s an American game with very little grinding. (Yes, NCsoft are Korean, but ArenaNet have a great deal of autonomy.)

Grinding mobs is a terrible way to level as they don’t give much xp.

1. Zone completion gives quite a bit, even city zones.

2. Move between areas, there are multiples for each level bracket.

3. Make sure you do events as well as hearts (always go for gold medals).

4. WvW gives a lot of xp.

5. Gather from every node you pass.

6. Crafting gives loads of xp, especially cooking since it’s easy to level.

Are you high? Killing mobs gives you like 1500 xp each, for just a few seconds of DPSing them

You just have to find some that haven’t been farmed recently

So you don't give me any quest hubs for my own level

Failing these later jumps will not just force you to start over, but you will die from the falling damage, and have to run back from a waypoint (which is at least pretty close), clear the respawned mobs away, and then start over

I think they did a good job in creating the Centaurs, but I believe their implementation of them to be flawed. Centaurs don’t feel like a good race to be one of the main antagonists for the Humans in the game, and the fact that you spend so long fighting them in so many zones doesn’t help

I think WoW did a much better job, with the Centaurs being in the more “wild” areas, like the Barrens, where races like the Tauren had fought them for years, and in game you fought them as Tauren, but also as well as Orcs and Trolls who had recently come to that area. While the Humans got to fight other Humans as their main bad guy for the starting zones

I haven’t found any that I wasn’t able to do, but some of them were just purely annoying, and felt like a waste of time, as I was not enjoying it at all, but needed them for the zone completion and the exp that comes along with that

The worst, and most time consuming one I found was one in the South of Dredgehaunt Cliffs, which took me almost 15 minutes to do. This sort of thing just doesn’t belong in an MMO
