I’ll skip the economy question.
The living story is new content that comes out about every two weeks, sans breaks. If you’ve been logging in every two weeks, you have unlocked all the chapters and you can start them as soon as you’re level 80. Just go to the journal in your hero tab, click on the living world and start it.
What you’ve missed is Season 1 which was a mixed back anyway. The game will sort of assume you know what’s been happening. You can watch one of the youtube videos on it or look it up in the wiki to find out what happened if you care, or contact me in game and I’ll tell you all about it until you’re bored to death. lol
What’s what point?
Legendary and ascended have the same stats. Exotic is good enough to do 99% of the content in the game everything except the highest level fractals. Ascended weapons have to be crafted. Legendaries have the same stats, and are much harder to make but often have cooler skins (or overdone according to some people).
Legendaries take a long time to get and a lot of work/farming but don’t give you a stat advantage over ascended, which isn’t much better than exotic in the first place.
Exotics: Craft or buy? And why?

And this is my first character getting to level 80 and I have a few questions….
—
How does the in game economy work?
—
Whats Living story?
When can I hop on it?
What have a missed?
Whats the point?
—
Exotic vs Legendary vs Ascended?
How do I acquire?
Can you go into detail about them?

I’d like to see a weapon skill tree, kinda like the Trait system, where you can put points in certain lines to unlock abilities that can replace the standard set of weapon skills.
IMO the type of skill system they have implemented into the game now, is good. But using that for weapon skills does not sound too appealing to me. It just sounds like the game would be pushed into something more generic to the current MMORPG scene.

So I own the Heroic Edition of the game and I have the Kryta skins and armor. I am a little scared to use the skins. There is of course the ones where I use the transmutation charges for and then the ones where I double click to apply the skin to my armor. It does not specify whether or not it has a single use and I don’t want to waste it.
So, how many times can I use the “Double-Click to Consume” skins?
How many times can I use the ones that need transmutation charges?

I find this idea interesting and I can’t say I have not thought about it myself a few times. Of course you will here a lot of no’s and I have no idea how many yes’s you would get but if A-Net did it right and tastefully, I am all for it.

I am currently on the 5th chapter (Helping Hands) of the Charr Personal Story and I was wondering how many chapters I have left and how many there are total.
**The reason why I am posting it here and not on the Personal Story forums is because for some reason it kept saying I was not allowed too.

it seems you dont realy enjoy pvp, there is no point in wvw except running with your 20 buddys from your guild around , killing other zergs and feeling awesome about it , you must enjoy killing other player , showing that you are better then them
and if you dont want to zerg , try roaming and see how good you are at pvp , i love to roam with my ele/mes/thief and then having 1vs1 and killing other players , even more awesome when its a 1vs2 or 1vs3 and you kill all three of them , the feeling of being able to kill alone 3 other players is great
Actually I really enjoy PvP and yeah I will do my best to find a good WvW/PvP Guild.
ps: i just remembered about a guy that once told me on ts that he enjoys upgrading towers and filling them with siege and watching how the enemy zergs wipe before them….so basicly playing tower defense, maybe you like that too

I like having achievements (which I do know that those already exist) but the main thing is a definitive victory that would count towards something for my character.
WvW Seasons would have the closest thing to what you are looking for. There are “real” rewards (e.g. weapon skins) for “winning”.
If access to badges for ascended jewelry / infuses isn’t enough reward, and leveling in WvW to gain more WvW rank / points isn’t enough progression, then perhaps another game that has more progression-style PvP play might better suit your purposes.
GW2 as a whole is not a progression-oriented game. There are other games that are.
Can you explain to me more about the “seasons”?

Get to lvl 80 and start roaming. You will be constantly improving your build and personal skill so that you can win 1vX fights. Although for this I would definitely get off of blackgate, T1 is way too blobby for roaming.
Well its just that I don’t have 30 dollars JUST to change servers.

Now I am being honest when I ask this. I am on my first character (level 50) and I was wondering…Whats the point of WvW? I mean it seems entertaining and I was having fun while playing it but I don’t see myself playing for long periods of hours without some actual goals besides “capture this just because you can say your the best server”.
And I am pretty sure that I am missing something or the actual point.
Some games are about the process: take (American) football or basketball, for example. Same court, same ball, game looks the same as it did 50 years ago, what it’s about is figuring out how to outdo your opponents. Makes for a constantly escalating battle of individual skill, teamwork, strategy, etc.
Some games are about getting through a series of obstacles to finish. Campaign games, the traditional Nintendo/playstation/xbox games, and so on. Finish the game, move on to the next one. Kind of like reading a book.
WvW is process.
PvE leveling to endgame has a finish. You can even think of GW2’s PvE endgame as having a finish (all achievements checked off, multiple Legendaries, all ascended armor and trinkets, etc.)
There are people who like each. Some like both. What do you prefer?

You could say “What’s the point?” to anything. What is the point of playing computer games at all when you could be out in the world bettering yourself and others. Everyone just enjoys different things. WvW is fun to some, boring to others. The point of anything in a game is to have fun.
I mean I do enjoy WvW but fun for me is working to a goal. I more noticeable one besides being able to say “my server is better”. Then again I also don’t quite fully understand WvW as much as I probably should.
Main: Charr Ranger
To me, WvW is a huge 24/7 battleground where you can have infinite fun just by roaming / taking structures / defending structures / have some fun with guildies and friends / having fun with the enemies etc etc, still keeps me entertained to this day.
The main problem is for me I am unable to find any definitive goals like in PvE where its like “Spend 5 hours doing this to get this shiny thing”. Kind of like the PvP rewards.
Main: Charr Ranger
Step 1. Don’t be on Blackgate
Step 2. Raise yourself to 80
Step 3. Join a WvW guild that is focussed on Open Field Fighting
Step 4. You will enjoy WvW.
Well I would rather not pay 30 dollars just to transfer servers. And whats so bad about Blackgate?

What are your current specs’? With a budget like that, it might be more worthwhile to upgrade than to buy new. You plan on building the new PC?
Yeah exactly. You could probably just upgrade some of your parts instead of building a new computer. Especially since your budget is very small.

It would probably help for you to say whether you are on kitten or EU server. Good luck on finding someone
I am on Blackgate if thats what you mean (which I added to the post).

Hello,
I am looking for another person to play Guild Wars 2 with. I am a level 13 Charr ranger and my highest level is 25.
We could go around doing jumping puzzles, hearts, explore the map, and hopefully once we get to a high enough level we could do dungeons.
-I am looking for someone who is between levels 8 and 16
-I am looking for someone who has a mic ( I have almost every VoiP program)
-I am looking for someone who will be able to play for a few hours everyday or every other day.
Because I am sure it matters: I am 15 y/o.

I am on BlackGate.
If you would like to play or have any questions, just comment on this thread.

To start off: I am a newbie. I am currently level 23.
I am looking for a guild that has other noobs and veteran players that also has an active mic using community. I would like to have someone (or more :P) to play with for PvE, a small-mediumish group to help me learn and play in WvW.
I have: Skype, Ventrilo, Overwolf and Team Speak 3. I am open to downloading any other necessary programs.
I live in the US Eastern Time Zone (UTC/GMT -5 hours)
My current profession: Warrior.

Oh and, play Elementalist! Ele>Warrior. A lot more fun when you have 20 weapon skills instead of 5
God I tried elementalist for my first character and got her to level 10 before I couldn’t take it anymore >_<
Too many things!

One of the big questions is how you like to play games. As that will probably help you out with your main goal. Do you like to be competitive in games against other players to try and be the best? Or do you like to explore and interact with the world and specifically do content that you aren’t facing other players? Guild Wars 2 as well as pretty much every MMO out there are extremely goal oriented. There are 3 different game modes in this game and they are PvE (the open world/dungeons/fractals/world bosses), WvW (Open World PvP/PvE sieging and capturing other servers castles and keeps and such), and sPvP (Arena style Domination and soon to come Team Deathmatch).
One thing you should know is that gearing while leveling to 80 isn’t that important. And if you have a choice between different stats like on the personal story, always pick the stats that have power, precision, and crit damage. Why? Because while leveling the only thing you really need to worry about is killing mobs faster and those stats do that. The other stats that you can get don’t really make much of a difference while leveling. Also, don’t be spending your hard earned gold buying new gear every level. It’s not needed. Every 10 levels or so it would be wise to upgrade if you have gear that’s 10 levels lower, otherwise it’s not a big deal. You want to save your gold for when gear really matters, and that is at level 80.
This link here is a great guide to a lot of the things Guild Wars 2 has and gives some great starters tips as well as telling you how sPvP and WvW works and how to get there. http://intothemists.com/articles/general/new-players-introductory-guide-to-guild-wars-2/ Just scroll down past the Professions part.
The game really starts when you hit 80 because that is when you can participate in everything the game has to offer and also start being competitive in WvW. There is a lot of lingo attached to MMO’s that you probably won’t understand either and this link helps you understand some of it http://almarsguides.com/eq/gettingstarted/mmorpglingo.cfm
Note that some of that lingo does not go directly with this game but most of it does and I would take it all in or just look at it when you hear someone say something you don’t understand. I had that problem for a really long time when I first started getting into MMO’s.Lastly when it comes to stats they are not a big deal while leveling. But once you reach 80 they are extremely important to know what you’re going for. Some of them are connected to others such as power, precision, and crit damage. I would go through all of them for you but my post is getting really long already. Message me in game! I love helping people out and will explain anything and everything that you ask and will give you suggestions on how to play the game.
WOW! Thanks for all the info! And those are the types of websites I have been looking for, for a while! I will def message you the next time I hop on

Crafting is not in general a good way to make money.
T7 deldrimor steel, elonian leather and bolt of damask strongly object to your opinion
not to mention those T7 insignias and inscriptions that sell for 50g+ eachNow at what point in my GW2 career will I understand a single thing you just said?
When you dedicate yourself to crafting. It is certainly not for everyone but if you enjoy it and are willing to be consistent you can make money by crafting the highest rarity materials.
Another problem I have: I can’t find anyone to play with that has a mic!
Join a Guild, mine is pretty friendly we have a TS that you can join. Usually people get “interviewed” through the TS, but unless they are total jerks there is no problem with anyone joining in.
I have a certain criteria that I would want from a guild. So that can run into a problem. My list is this: Will allow newbies, has other newbies around my level, has some people willing to teach/help/play with other people, does WvWvW. Oh and most important of all for me: A good majority use mics.

The most important thing of GW2 is that it plays very differently than other MMORPG. By that I mean that you need a different mindset than to WoW or RIFT. I am in Blackgate, message me in game I would be happy to guide you along.

Regarding crafting, there are a good few guides out there these days, which can start you off. Google GW2 Armorsmith Crafting Guide 0-500, and see what you come up with. Compare and contrast them, and if you have any more questions, guild mates or the forum will help. Rinse repeat for cooking (where my personal mission has always been to attempt to level it solely by crafting baked goods, like cake and bread).
As for levelling up, there’s a few different ways to do it, and all of us will gravitate to our own favoured methods after a while. I tend to focus on map completion/personal story/city exploring/crafting. I also pick up crafting materials as I see them – you’ll have seen copper nodes, various plants and trees for acquisition in the 1-15 zones. Thereafter you’re looking at iron nodes (probably what you’re seeing as a level 20 if you’ve gone out of the starter zones). Hacking at them nets you XP. Do it. Try and do any events you come across as well.
Regarding the gear for your character, I can’t advise as I don’t know what you’re playing. I typically use power based stats, but it does depend on the build. Which brings us to builds and yeah, that can be confusing. Let us know what you’re playing first, though.
I am currently playing a warrior. Also, when I craft armor, should my goal be to craft armor for me or for money and get armor through other ways?
Main: Charr Ranger
So to start out: I am level 20. I am somewhat new to MMORPG’s ( I played Rift for like 40 hours).
This game is a completely knew experience for me and even after 40 hours in GW2 some of the basics are still a little confusing for me.
I essentially play by doing a heart here and there do exploring for a half hour and some personal story. That’s about it. I mean the game is fun but the way I am playing it, it’s more of a “pass the time cause I don’t want to do anything else” type of fun. I feel a part of this is because I have no actual goal for myself (Or there are some that I am just unable to find). I barely understand crafting ( I am disciplined in Armorsmithing and cooking) so I am not able to find goals in that either (like build “this” set of armor etc). Another part of that is because I also don’t understand the stat system. What I mean by that is the fact that I don’t know if my stats correctly match up with my level (like 20 vitality etc). I also don’t know what half of any thing means! Because of all of this, I am not able to find a truly “exciting” type of feeling when I play this game.
Suggestions?
Side Note: Would any one be willing to take a newbie under their wing and teach them the game (Blackgate)?

Hello!
So as the title says, I am looking for for some newbies at the game to play with. The game by itself is very fun but I believe it will be even more enjoyable to share the journey and learn the game with someone else. I am mainly looking for someone who: Has a mic, has Skype or TeamSpeak 3, will be on daily, is between level 14-16 (with some exceptions). I have not played WvWvW or PvP much at all and I don’t really know much about it. We can level up, do hearts and other missions together
My Info:
Server: BlackGate
Race: Norn
Profession: Warrior
Level: 15
If you have any questions or are interested just reply to this thread
See you all later!

I was in the same exact position as you. I recommend the warrior. It’s fun and easy to use!

Wow! A very clear guide and it got to the point! Had just as much fun reading as playing the actual game.
Main: Charr Ranger
You have a “home” server where all your characters live by default. You can also guest to up to 2 other servers each week and play on those servers temporarily. So if I’m playing tonight and there are only 3 people trying to kill a world boss (very typical for my server), I can temporarily transport my character over to a different server and join the people who normally live there.
Get into a guild early. They offer buffs, friends, and activities and will help you level or play the game. Ask in map chat when you get yourself situated. Let people know you are new to the game so you don’t yet know which areas you want to focus on.
Is there an easy way to find servers that aren’t just full of people “guesting”?

Wow! Thank you for telling my about that thread. I will be spending quite a bit of time looking at it.

The thing is, they all say that they are large when picking in game, so you can’t go by that.
For example, I’m on Devona’s Rest, which frequently says it is “very high” in population, however, it is basically the Tatooine of the GW2 universe.
Typically, players on my server guest to Tarnished Coast to get anything done.
Forgive me lol but I do not understand that last sentence xD.
Also. What about guilds? How does that work? How do I find a good one? When would be a good time to look for one?

So I have just bought the game! I have never really played much of MMORPG’s before but this one looked absolutely amazing. So I was wondering what things I should know or do when/before I start playing the game.
Any information will be helpful!
First thing to know is that you need to pick the right server.
Server population will determine if you have a fun or boring time playing the game.
Right I remember hearing something about that. So I am assuming pick a relatively large server?
