Is there a possibility for a Minion Bomber?

in Necromancer

Gideoknight.4736

I know that they were rather feared during Guildwars, and I have always liked the playstyle so I have been trying to create one for a while.

I haven’t been able to play since the patch, but read that Death Nova now deals damage. Tried searching the web but could not find any information on how much, in what Aoe and so on so forth.

Also, if anyone who have more experiance with minions would give their opinion on a Minion Bomber (and maybe even a build) I would be more than happy.

How will flamethrower feel the boon hate?

in Engineer

Gideoknight.4736

Since thief and warrior will be getting boon hate, and I run with juggernaut and might duration runes, I feel a huge wall building above me. More often than not, boons is something one chooses when to have and when to not, and by that one can sort of counter the boon hate. But since the boon gain with FT is passive, ther’s no way to NOT get boons, except a re-trait or not using ones weapon/kit of choice.

I haven’t seen SOTG and don’t know exactly how it will be put into the game, but from what I have heard, it doesn’t look good for juggernauters.

@Phineas Poe – Imagine that you must use the Flamethrower as your main weapon. And I want to know how you would build around it. Simple as that

God kitten I suck at posting…
I really should edit the kitten out of this post to make it understandable.

I am not really looking for a you to tell me a build, but rather asking how you would build around the flamethrower if you had to. Now that I look back I realize I were pretty unclear…

@MattyP – So, some sort of might-stacking then. And I will guess that you use some other kit?

@fishybill – Do you focus on sheer attack damage or condition damage? It would probably be obvious if only I had a better knowledge of the stats :P

Build me a Flamethrower Build

A lot of flamethrower build posts have been popping up lately, causing me to wonder about the ULTIMATE FLAMETHROWER BUILD. Many seems to focus on the condition part of it, with a smaller group seeing it as a power weapon. I find myself in the middle seeing both as equally important.

Anyway… I know that the Engineer forum has a lot of REALLY skilled players, and I were interested in their general thoughts of, and how they would build around, the flamethrower.

I have no intentions of restricting this post to only the elite even if it would sound that way.
So, now I leave it up to you:

Flamethrower + movement

I found that aiming with the right mouse button works the best for me.
But since you could use the same button for targeting I often accidently target my teammate or my least important enemy.

Flame blast fires in the direction of your camera, which in most cases is slightly angled down towards your character. So if you instead center it on your enemy level to the ground, it will fire in their general direction. As a charr, I hate it.

I have also found that the flamethrower has a REALLY wide attack, hitting in almost 180 degrees. I tested this on the targeting dummies in Lion’s Arch so I can’t make ay promises about any other area.

Oh, right. Skills. I use the rifle, Healing Turret, Flamethrower, Elixir Gun, Elixir S and Elixir X. Altough I swap elites back and forth so that one could be Charrzooka or Supply Crate at any time.

Ah, sorry. Didn’t check it up. Well, that’s how it goes when you are too sure of yourself.
As for traits:

0
30 – Sitting Duck, Fireforged Trigger, Juggernaut
0
30 – Self-Regulating Defenses, Deadly Mixture, Backpack Regenerator
10 – Kit Refinement

I like the thought of a Juggernaut, standing in the fray. So, not so cared about damage and more about survivability.

There is nothing to the animations. Some squats on the ground or a Bubble of Fire. (Well, that is rather awesome. But not why I use it!) I use the kit refinement trait because I feel good with it. I play for fun, nothing else.
Also because I don’t see a better use for my last ten points. A 10% chance to cause burning is good and all, but if you never trigger it, it is rather useless. 10 points into toughness hasn’t even surfaced yet, so I assume that you feel they are unnecessary too. So that leaves: Tools.

I you want, I could try and post my build. It will not be entirely accurate since I am not at home, but still.

Since I have a rather low crit-chance, the 10% chance of burn isn’t something I desire. And teh Fire Shield isn’t a large part of the build. And since I run with Sitting Duck, a guaranteed 8 seconds 5% damage increase for my whole party is actually better for me. I don’t run a lot on my own so yeah. And since I am rather bad at dodging I really appreciate the regen.

@Skitza – You are right in that I squeezed it together a bit. Fight a bit longer in there, switching to flamethrower for that extra 200 toughness, or anything that takes up some time, and then continue. As said, writing isn’t my strongest skill.

On a side note, I found another reason to like Kit Refinement even if you are an one-kit wonder. It brings another skill into combat, with a cooldown of a mere 20 seconds. For example, Flame Shield, which helps in stacking burn and might. Or Magnetic Bomb, for that in-kit pull.

And you barely lose any might swapping in and out of the Flamethrower

I haven’t been able to play a lot since the patch but so far I found that the synergy between my kits only went up. My choice of weapon is the much dreaded Flamethrower with Elixir Gun and Rifle as sidekicks.

I usually rush the fray with Flame Blast, followed by some Flame Jets. Well into the battle I swap to Elixir Gun trying to immobilize as many as possible. Then Fumigate, a Super Elixir, Acid Bomb for the Retaliation, swap to Rifle, Jump Shot in again, swap to Flame Thrower in the air for a Flame Shield, back to Rifle, Blunderbuss as I land, Overcharged Shot. Repeat.

Sorry for the long chain but, since writing isn’t my best side, I kind of lost patience.
Of course one would have to adjust according to situation but that is the main idea.
And one more thing, I find that Glue Trail is wonderful with the Sitting Duck trait, since it can bring many stacks of vulnerability into combat.

And… I lost it. (“The Game” that is)
Anyway, to the point. I would love to see some utility outside of the game.
For example a Skill Calculator that is officially supported by ArenaNet or an Armor Stand, where you can check out most of the armors. Things like Character Tracker, where one could check up on my characters would also be neat.

I am fully aware that there are some sites for this so please do not link or refer to one of them outside of comparison reasons. I am also aware that many of these sites would lose visitors and all that, but I still wish that ArenaNet provided at least support for it.

So what do you think? Would you like to have official utility sites beyond the Wiki?

The Monk. A Class that uses endurance for something else than doging seems like a great concept, since endurance is based on points and not uses. If I remember correctly ANEt planned to use endurance for almost everything back in BWE1. I fully understand why that didn’t go through but to have one class leaning towards that would add a nice touch.

A lot of the responses in this thread sounds like we have a religous cult going. We are waiting for the Great Buff to come, when all the Engineers will rise up from the shadows to crush those kittens who looked down upon us! We are simply biding our time, planning their downfall.
With the mightof our Elixirs and the roar of our Turrets we shall conquer! We will walk out of the Desert of Nerf unscathed! And when the time finally arrives shall the glory of the engineer be obvious to everyone.

I am so kitten tired…

Nicer looking turrets

in Engineer

Posted by: Gideoknight.4736

Gideoknight.4736

Me and many with me are not very fond of the current turret designs, as they look more like cameras or simply tubes, than actual weapons of destruction.

A while back I changed my wallpaper to the Engineer, the one at the top on the profession page, and instantly thought: “Why aren’t our turrets more like this?”

I didn’t really give it another second of my life and continued playing the game.
Then, BAM! As I run around in Black Citadel I notice a Charr, in the War Wagon Prep Deck, hunched over and working on something small…

And believe it or not, it was the Turret!
Now I wonder if I am the only one to notice this and your general thoughts on the subject

Also, if the turret is in the game, why didn’t ANet bother giving it to us?

Flamethrower

in Engineer

Gideoknight.4736

I currently run a flamethrower-oriented build, and feel that I do really good dps. Since the Juggernaut trait gives you 200 toughness and, with no extra boon-duration, five stacks of might it really feels as if you are that frontline soldier.
As for Flame Blast, it is really situational. If used at the right moment it can rip away about a fifth of the hp. Sadly it is mostly viable only at the beginning or at the end of a fight.

There are also a lot of bugs regarding the aiming of the Flamethrower. Flame Jet has a bug which causes it to miss often and Flame Blast fires right down the ground if you don’t have a target.

So yeah, there is a lot to be done for the flamethrower to reach its full potential, but dps-wise, I feel that I well get the amount needed.

Engineer Elites

in Engineer

Posted by: Gideoknight.4736

Gideoknight.4736

To be honest this isn’t just about the engineer elites, same goes almost every class out there. Many Elite skills… suck. They have way to long cooldown, they don’t fit builds and are only viable in a small set of situations. So, what needs to be done?

First of all, I would like an Elite for every skilltype. For Engineer that would be turret, elixir, gadget and kit. Turret and elixir, we already have. But what about gadget and kit?
An example at an Elite-kit could be Sniper Rifle, Mini-Gun or Shotgun. Sadly I don’t have any idea of an Elite-gadget.

To be honest, I would actually prefer less “powerful” Elites but with shorter cooldowns. That way I would that they’re actually worth popping every once in a while instead of only use if there’s something REALLY big.

Perhaps you have some other ideas to bring…
