As other content gets more attention, please make agony resistance (progression in fractals) work more like luck, mastery or wvw/pvp reward tracks.
Also, please open HoT mastery track experience to gains in more game modes than story/open-world.

I am using staff as my second set. Good stuff to know.

Like I said in my first post, I like axe warhorn against melee since I can always stay out of reach and take no damage indefinitely. I’ll look at daggers next time though.

Okay, so when there are ranged I should stack and burn.

DS is so awesome. Which weapons build life force fastest?

New necro here. I’m loving axe warhorn for kiting melee mobs 3 or 4 at a time but against ranged I’m having some problems. I’m thinking wells and blast finishers to blind is what I should be trying but I’d like to ask if I’m missing something.

Thanks for the response!

Re: sPvP “hot join”
Is “hot join” where I go talk to the NPC and select a server off to the left as I enter the prep zone or the NPC by the statue to the right closer to the PVP gear vendors?

PvE: I’ve watched a lot of streamers do fractals and asked questions so I have a pretty good idea what is going on with the fights. You recommended dungeons over fractals… can you explain the relationship between dungeons and fractals? If there’s more gear in dungeons, why do people work up fractals ranks?

I have been playing a fairly tanky condition/boon build for personal story/map completion soloing (staff mesmer) … but have started using more power/crit gear (switched to greatsword built around lots of phantasms/clones).

I finally got my first character to 80 (I just picked up the game last month). I have a few goals in front of me that I am working on (map completion, story/exploration mode dungeons, personal story (I’m 2 steps short of Arah), crafting)… but I would like to get into the ranked aspects of end game and was hoping I could pick up a few tips for where to start.

sPvP: I hopped into a few matches and was told to go practice more before I joined. Is there a low-rank sPvP matchmaker that I can go to so I’m not grouped with people that are going to make fun of a rabbit rank but still work towards upping my game against real people? Or do I just ignore the haters and die, learn, repeat my way up? I don’t think fighting the practice dummies is going to help me gain a lot of sPvP experience…

FotM: I’ll be at level 1. I guess I need to find a guild willing to help run me up fractals levels or wait for people to join via gw2lfg … am I missing something? On a related note, should I be in all yellow 80 gear for my first fractals runs, or can I gain the gear I need as a fresh 80 by just hopping in?

WvWvW: There aren’t a lot of roamers to duel with in T1 (I’m on Sanctum of Rall) … so I guess I just hop in and follow commanders around…

Perhaps the answer to all of the above is to be in a big active guild willing to have “fun” carrying newbs …

Will our useless weapons ever be reworked

I quite like scepter actually. It can be used as part of a confusion build if you want to go that way, but it works just fine for shatter builds because it produces so many clones.

Torch, besides looking great, is our only blast finisher and applies blinding and a cloak.

I guess it comes down to playstyle. You might not like those weapons, but I use them as my main set.

Build: Blocking and bursting

Build

I’ve slowly transitioned in my mesmer builds from condi staff to confusion scepter/torch, and then found that I really enjoyed the feeling of timing a good block. This build uses scepter/sword for blocks, and then takes the idea further by adding Signet of Domination (stun on activate), Mantra of Distraction (daze on activate), and greatsword with Illusionary Wave (knockback interrupts) and turns them into damage through stacking vulnerability with the following traits:

Illusion of Vulnerability: 3 stacks on interrupt
Dazzling: 5 stacks on daze
Rending shatter: shatter causes vulnerability (scepter and blocks spawn clones quickly)
Greatsword 2 (Mirror Blade): 3 stacks bouncing

Finally, this is turned into burst through shattering, but also Mantra of Pain, Furious Interruption (4 seconds fury on interrupt), Wastrel’s Punishment (5% damage boost against inactive foes), Halting Strike (damage on interrupt).

The way this build is based on direct counters to your opponent’s actions makes reading the fight and responding very dynamic and fun.
