Thank you guys for the thorough explanation. I understand that latency issues are hard to solve, and believe me I’m not trying to judge or put blame on anyone.
However this does not answer the question, why are there so many people with the exact same issue after the newest patch?
If you take a look at the tech support site, you will see that most of the topics relate to the same thing. Given that I had no problems with the game before the patch (like the majority of players), it’s just hard for me to imagine that it’s a problem on my side.
And since everything else is runnig smoothly, I haven’t got the slitest idea on how to resolve it…
I just popped into another famos on line game’s tech support forum that has a monthly sub and WoW every other post is lag and latency issues, so it’s just not GuidWars it all online gaming.
This is not another “my ping so low, QQ, ANet WTF, gimme my dollars back” situation. There are in fact a lot of people having serious lag spikes problems since the latest November’s patch.
I’ve been ingame since day one (with a few breaks) and never had any bigger issues than an occassional DC or a minor lag. But right after I had the patch installed, everything went to hell. Usually in the afternoon the launcher takes ages to log in, I get stuck on map loading screens, get massive freezes and sometimes DCs in the end.
I get that nothing’s perfect, but there are plenty o people having the exact same issue. I don’t think this is any kind of MMO-hysteria.
I’m far from calling ANet names, like other guys, but I think that we would all appreciate some feedback from the developer’s side.
Hi ANet.
Similar issue here.
Location: Poland
Time and date of incident: 18 November, just after the patch.
Game world: Seafarer’s Rest
OS: Windows 7 Home Professional 64-bit
Description:
I was playing the game in PVE (maps, not WvW) and everything worked fine like always. I got the yellow info about the new build, so I relogged for the new content to get installed. I returned into the game. After killing Golem Mark II I wanted to change the map to Caledon Forest. The game got stuck on the loading screen. Now this, being one of the issues, takes place for other maps as well. Even if I’m fortunate enough to enter a map, I struggle with lag spikes (few seconds of freeze, and then a fast forward). Sometimes the launcher also takes a lot of time to log me in.
I also got the pop-up with the info of being “unable to gain access to the log-in server… etc.”
My internet connection is working perfetly fine, but I can’t seem to find the problem with the game. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Congratz!
Could please you tell what were your tacs? Did you go zerging the wurms one by one, and then split into 3 groups to finish them off, or did you kill them in groups for each at the same time?
Well, it might sound like a conspiracy theory, but i think all the rubbish that ends in our inventory or bank is a way of ANet saying “just buy those gems to get more free space”. I know you can get them by exchanging gold, but not every player is a farmer and gold is still needed for other stuff.
Ok. Thank you all for the advice and resources. I hoped there will be more books, cause I preffer “reading” paper, but this will also do. Cheers!
I would like to learn more about the events from Guild Wars games, but I couldn’t find much. Well maybe except for some scraps scattered across the Internet.
I know there are three books that create a storyline bridge between GW and GW2. I WILL read them, but was wondering if there’s more? Any other books on the first game, events, races etc? I did play the first game a bit, but don’t remember much.
If not books, then maybe some websites? Legit ones.
Thanks!
Hey all.
I’ve been playing GW for quite some time (actually, since the beginning) and here are a few ideas that I’ve come up with, and some issues I want to talk about.
First of all, let me just say that I really admire ANet’s work and consider GW2 a great gaming installment. So, forgive me if it feels like I’m moaning from time to time
I’ve come to a conclusion that most of medium armor sets don’t really match with the professions. I play a female engineer and found that there is actually no armor set which design would match her… hmmm, lets call it “class”. What I mean is that I would like her to look like a proper techno-tinkery-bombing-gunnery kind of character, one that others would instantly recognize as an engineer, without having to click and check the profession status. The same goes for other armor sets, maybe except heavy, which look good enough and there’s a large variety to pick from.
I bought the Magitech armor skin set from gem store and really loved it. But when I stumbled across another player using the same female set, I thought “Probably engi” – but no, it’s a thief… Really? Which thief would dress like that?! Shouldn’t they look more like some shady ninja-gankers?
That is why I think ANet should implement profession-based armor sets. Not one, but several. Heck, make them many and make them available by gem store, vendors (gold, karma, dungeon tokens) and crafting. Engi leatherworker? Make yourself a nice piece of exotic, good looking armor, with grenades, flasks and ammo belts. And if you want me to farm currency or whatever else be needed, make it worth it and make it look good.
Next thing. Buying gems for gold is expensive, and I don’t play the game every day. Yes I know, that if I desire something great I have to earn it, but since the end-game is more about the looks, what’s all the fuss about? Make the skin sets more expensive, but at least make them multi-use! Armor sets for 800 gems? That’s ok, but I would like to use it more than once. I understand that the 2000 gems cards are the means of ANet’s earnings, but the equivalent I have to pay in my country in order to buy the card is more or less what I would have to pay for a new PC game. Two one-use armor skin sets for 1600 gems and 400 left for some utilities, almost at a price of a new game? No thank you.
The same goes for weapons. Give us more skins that would actually look like weapons, not some twisted, weird pieces of… something, that you would never consider able to shoot anything, least to say bullets! There are only two skins I consider worthy of an engineer. Ascended – yes sir, long road ahead of me (doable but needs a lot of farming). Aetherized? LOVELY! Got one BL ticket scrap! Should be ready to buy it once I reach the age of 80.
Before the wave of hate hits, claiming I’m too lazy or whatever, let me just say once again, that if the end-game is about the looks, then for Rytlock’s sake why not let people, who don’t play the game 24/7, choose from a greater variety of in-game merchandise allowing them to play looking the way they want?
What’s your opinion on this?
Cheers!
