If they ever make a new type of weapon, it will be along with new playable race/class (and of course in some kind of DLC/expansion). For simple LS/patch content it is a bit too much. We’re talking about new skills, new animations, and new balancing. If you look at all new skills that appeared lately (mostly healing skills) they all use animations that were already used + some new effects.
Maybe its lazines, maybe lack of funds or time but… adding new weapon type just like that-not gonna happen.
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the idea of adding new skills and weapons outside of major content updates one of the big points on the original GW2 manifesto?
When GW2 was first in development they said that a lot of content would be added in outside of expansions, additional campaigns, etc., so they wouldn’t have to make expansions.
I guess they’ve just forgotten about that.
Tengu were supposedly going to be in the game at release, and then nothing came of it. Then ANet didn’t recognize the Tengu almost at all in the recent Living Story. So… My opinion is ANet isn’t likely to add the Tengu whatsoever.
Unfortunately for me, but apparently not unfortunately for anyone else, Largos are the most likely upcoming new playable race. Even though Heket, Quaggan and Skritt were heavily represented in the personal story, Largos are most likely what ANet will be adding next. ANet loves their pet races, as made obvious by the Sylvari.

I’m pretty surprised there’s been no backpedaling from anet on this issue. I suppose they’re hard-up for money then. Their gemstore monetization / living story scheme is starting to implode now. Should have stuck to expansion model.
The expansion model. This is what needed to happen. At this rate I’d be astonished if we ever seen Cantha, Elona, or even the Ring of Fire Islands or Crystal Desert. I just don’t see ANet putting work into those things any time soon, and if they are, we really need to be informed, otherwise more and more people are just going to stop playing.
No Weapon Dyes
No Guild Halls
No New Weapons, bringing new and interesting ways to play
No real GvG
I can go onto the Black Lion auction house and see stuff I really like but can’t afford, but am totally willing to earn myself. Guess what? I can’t earn it myself any longer. I have to grind in-game gold or spend real money to get it, even though it was, at one point, in the game. This is understandable only for Holiday items.
Tengu aren’t playable. Yeah I know this is probably a niche complaint, but the concept art was there at the beginning and it was one of the strong candidates for playable race. As of yet they’ve done nothing with them from what I can see, and it doesn’t look like they intend to any time soon.
I think ArenaNet forgot about GW1’s lore. Just… In general, forgot about most of the groundwork from Guild Wars.
Those are my complaints, methinks.
