This game has odd problems with graphical settings. I would suggest changing your graphics settings around. Set them all to low first then one by one increase them and note the FPS drop for each one. Set sampling data to ultra then native.
Can't re-open game ever since Jan 28 patch

control + alt + delete. Go into task manager, end gw2.exe. No need to restart.
Building a computer is not hard but you have to know what’s compatible and the dos and don’ts. The more difficult part is troubleshooting something that goes wrong. There’s a lot of prebuilt systems out there that wont cost you much more than building it yourself.
Give us a budget.
You can’t link to your cart. Why not give us a budget so we can spec something out for you. I would avoid anything sold by wallyworld.
wauwi is wrong. The CPU is good enough with a decent card you should expect 30-60 FPS on high, but that card is not anywhere good enough. What’s your total budget to work with?
The patch is actually around 1.1 GB, not 10GB. You can’t calculate it based on files or percentage compared to size apparently, kinda screwy.
every time I close the patcher it will start downloading all over again.

With your attitude you can figure it out on your own.
every time I close the patcher it will start downloading all over again.

Strange, did you try deleting all your files and starting fresh? How about running the exe as admin?

If you ran it before the update and then ran it again recently you are just downloading the update which is over 1gb.
Take notice to the files remaining. Try opening it up and let it download for a bit and note how many files are remaining. Close it and open it up again, it should resume where it left off but it DOES NOT resume at a percentage, instead the percent downloaded will reset to 0.
Hope that helps.
Thanks for the info Ashley!
I didn’t hit 1% download until 170mb and that was after downloading a few hundred MB from the other day. I don’t know if the percentage is based off of files or total file size.
They should really give us the total file size, I could care less how many files are being downloaded.
Any plans on making use of Nvidia 3d Vision

Supposedly it’s one of the best looking games out there in 3D. I have a 3D setup but have not tried it yet. The downside is most people get low FPS already with GW and 3D typically cuts your frame rates in half..
Apparently there is some issue with flash supposedly, I have no idea why. If you’ve stabilized it, problem solved I suppose! I agree there’s some weird code issues with this game.
I would say try
1. Update your flash
2. Turn off / on HW acceleration for Flash
3. Run it in compatibility mode.
4. Try booting up with 1 stick of memory
5. Check the sticky on frame rate issues and adjust your settings.
Could very well be. Can you log your memory usage on start up? Have you tried rolling back your drivers, doing all your windows updates or running in compatibility mode?
Single thread performance is the key issue and any upgrade on the AM3 socket is going to net maybe 20% increase with something like an fx 4100, that’s another $100 to add. I would start off with the GPU I posted, it will future proof you for a few years. If it’s not enough then upgrade the CPU afterwards. If money is important to you, don’t waste it on low end stuff, save another week if you have to.
I’ve been building computers for 15 years, from gaming rigs to hosting farms. My advice was spot on, that CPU is not going to limit the GPU, I don’t even know where you would get that idea from. In order to make even better use of the system he would have to upgrade his MB, PSU, RAM, & Video. There’s no other cheaper choice than the video card I listed and it WILL run all your games much better even if your CPU is dated.
Do not listen to SaadBaig, you would be completely wasting your money on that POS card.
Try running GPUZ and log just your GPU temps and load. Try setting your GPU fan speed to manual at 100% before playing.
Your CPU is somewhat limiting. I don’t know how many people are getting over 100fps, probably not many even on high end rigs. What are you using to measure your GPU / CPU usage?
On an i7-920 @ 3.8ghz and a GTX 275 I am using 100% GPU. Did you read the sticky in here for low FPS? I went through that and a number of other things and ended up going from 10-15fps on max to about 30-50 on max.
That’s an odd one for sure. Check your protection settings in your BIOS, you may be able to disable that (at your own risk) also check to make sure your voltages are stable and if in doubt try swapping out your PSU for another just to test. It’s not uncommon at all to get a bad PSU new, which model do you have?
Set your GPU fan to manual, put it on full high. Something I noticed in the past was that for whatever reason my fan was not kicking on to the appropriate level while in GW2. In no other game did I have this problem, I suspect this is why some peoples GPUs fried.
It may be noisy but I make it a habit to turn my fan on 100% now whenever I play.
Resinstalling GW2 will very unlikely (almost 0 percent) solve a blue screen problem. Try running your fans on manual at100% both GPU and CPU and see what happens.
Note.. see you are running a laptop, make sure it’s on a hard surface and has plenty of airflow. This game is super taxing and will gobble up your GPU at 100% even at login especially on a laptop.
I would not go with that card you picked. Unfortunately for you this game is very GPU & CPU dependent. If you changed out your CPU you wouldn’t gain much since the AM3 sockets are pretty limited as far as gains go, it would probably be a waste of money.
The GPU you listed is really for budget gaming and wouldn’t be a good choice. I have my doubts it would even run on mid settings well, its much slower than my GTX 275 and that only gets about 50-60FPS on mid/lower.
I would pick this card up instead:
Just be sure you have a PSU that can provide enough power to it.
^would be a good choice. Your current PSU might be fine though.
Thanks for the info guys. Yes generally with 3D you get half the FPS but since GW2 coding seems to be so CPU dependent I was hoping that it was not the case. Also reducing quality down to “crap level” I don’t gain much.
I’m only getting 30-50 FPS after a lot of fuss and hooking my 3D system up is actually a pain since im already running 2 monitors which are not 120hz.
I have a i7-920 @ 3.8ghz and a GTX 275 and 6gb ram. It’s a bit dated but handles most any other game maxed out at 60FPS. GW2 really strains this system.
I’ll likely hook it up just to experience it, im already blown away how good this game looks in “2D”.
Anyone running nVidia 3D setup? I have one but it’s not hooked up since my primary monitor is used for Graphic design and my secondary is a Wacom Cintiq… I am wondering if it’s worth hooking up for the 3D.
My main concerns are how well it looks but how well it runs, should I expect half the frame rates?
