what i would buy without a second tough:

1- different options for voiceovers. I don’t even care about cutscene voices, i just am very tired of the same “I can outrun a centaur!” over and over and over again, from every direction. If at least my character sounded differently, i would be happy.

2- More GW1 legacy skins. the Monk outfit was a great start, now i would like the Elite Druid, Elite Stormforged, Obsidian Ritualist, Obsidian Monk. We have many skins that look like the GW1 skins that are already in game, but nothing really looks like the above

3- Wigs. Basically helmet skins that look like hair that i can put on and take off when i please without using makeover kits. That would allow to also “interchange” hairs among races

4- More skins like the Zodiac series, but with the ability to dye the sparkly blue that cannot be changed on the current Zodiac models

5- Bloodstone dust that we can buy with Gems (ok this one was a joke)

Installed the 64 client. Noticed a dramatic decrease of performance. When i Auto-detected my graphics were low – medium at best, running around 40 FPS

On the 32 client i run every setting on highest on 50-60 FPS and it is smooth until epic warfare.

I did the NVidia control pannel trick, but i only run 1 graphics card anyways. it did not help the performance. The crashes on the 32 bit client are getting old really quick, and happen even when I reduce my graphics to the lowest. Any advice?

Edit to add: I do not experience any bleeding graphics or distorted artifacts like some others report

I don’t want to reroll the necro because of all of the progression and gear it has, but i can’t justify buying a new slot and grinding a new toon of a class that I already have

Rock Dog (permanent, not the whistle)
White tiger – they are in the game but not available to charm
Doyak! (scaled down because it’s juvenile. alternative tank to bear)
Crab
Deer (male and female, those things are pretty kitten)
Griffon
Shelk (or is it Skelk?)

Racial pets would be cool too

Human – a centaur with a broken spirit
Azura – Golem obviously
Charr – Black Ooze
Silvary – one of the Druid Oaks
Norn – Tamed Ice worm

i sleep and dream about that.

I would throw money at the screen if they ever added the templates to either buy at gem store for each character (small price) or account wide unlock (bigger price)

One reason I very rarely go to wvw with my mesmer, is because of the lack of trait templates (portals and veils aren’t as useful in open world pve, you know…). And it would be nice to have at least 2 templates for each toon. one of dungeons/pve and another for pvp

Gem skin should be unlimited use - quick fix

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hantu.2815

I haven’t read the enire thread but i read several posts to get the idea.

Yes Anet is making money of skin sales as they are now, and they could make so much more if there was some kind of unlock system in place. My guess is that they are afraid that they will loose money because someone who would potentially buy the skin they like more than once would not have to. I buy gems with real money (I work and don’t have as much time to farm, so I separate gem purchases with game money. I buy stuff like transmute stones, makeover kits, character slots, server changes etc) I’ve never bough a skin only because there are none that I like enough to spend gems on.

I would propose a solution to meet each-other in the middle:

Buying a skin unlocks it for your account forever for unlimited use.

To negate some potential losses, the solution could be the following: To apply the unlimited skin you would need a transmute stone (same rules apply as for other gear, blues for 80 gear and yellows for lower)

As proof to the fact that people would be Ok paying money for unlimited use, I would like to point out how many went and bough GW1 + EOTN just to have the HOM unlimited skins rewards

Pros:
1- Anet still continuously makes money of Gem purchases because people still need the transmute stones. Transmute stones cost much less than the skins, and most of us have hordes of the yellow ones anyway, but they would still generate income that Anet needs. To make it fair maybe the 1st time you buy the skin it would come with 5 transmute crystals, or just usable as a traditional skin only once. But once you click it it’s unlocked.

2- We have unlimited use of the skin, when levelling alts, when wanting to mix and match a set (only using some pieces of the skin, all while wanting to keep the skins on another toon as well)

3- The more efficient farmers or money makers will have more incentive to buy gems with gold (to buy more transmute stones) which will decrease the inflation after some period of time

4- Anet could more effectively measure the popularity on the skins they release, and use that feedback to design future skins or amours. Maybe they will stop with the medium trench coats….

5- People will feel “safer” to buy the skins, because they would know they will forever be at their disposal, even if their account gets wiped by a hacker and items don’t get re-established.

Cons:

I really don’t see any, since the addition in the price would appear only after the “free after purchase” initial use

Im not sure what game have you been playing….

GW2 has PLENTY of small fine details that are not IN YOUR FACE. You just have to look around, and it is very rewarding when you find them.

The whole emoting automatically was in Aion, and it was beyond annoying.

Strafe on Right click: Right click has a different function. Left click will make them strafe. Right click is to look around while moving without changing direction.

Crafting emotes: I could’t care less about the emotes while crafting. Im actually happy that those are not there as it would make LA very laggy

Will open world PVP servers be considered?

IF they ever did this then the FIRST thing youd see is level 80 players in full exotics one shotting fresh level one characters.

This would be the absuolute best way to ruin the game for all new players.

so i say no.

Again read what I posted earlier, it’s not very hard to implement LEVEL caps on who you can attack. Or how it is now lowers your level in certain areas anyways, so you wouldn’t be able to have an advantage.

TO top it there is already a system that could prevent this kind of grieving, level correction in areas. one level 80 may very well overpower a level 2, but 3 level 2s will overpower the level 80 that is level corrected to level 2.

POsted from an older thread i started a while ago:

Hello, I am an old time GW1 player, and have played many other MMOs. I am very happy with GW2, I think that it is the best game on the market currently. The only thing that it is lacking in my view is a open world PvP server available. One of the MMOs I played previously (the main other one) is Lineage 2. While it is a horrible game, very little PVE content, very gear dependant, destroyed economy, one thing that keeps players there is open world PvP, which adds a very special thrill to the game, whether you are looking for kills, defending yourself or playing with server’s “politics”.
It could add some twists such as guilds fighting over dragons, over dungeon access, or just for fun.
Why do I think that an open PvP server would work in GW2:
- It would add some spice to map of the game, weather you and your guild is defending access to a dungeon or if you are playing as a “hunter” or exploring and running into a member of an enemy guild. People would enjoy PvP would enjoy this.
- The max level and gear is very easy to get, and the game is not very heavily gear dependant anyways. The level correction in areas solves the level gap.
- The level correction in areas that are below 80 would prevent high level players from dominating a lower level spot or jumping unsuspecting level 20s.
- The general combat system is great for such thing
- The code for this is almost done, the staff would just have to tweak the code used in WvsW.
- Somewhat like in Factions, guilds could own towns and fight over them once a week or so (kind of like sieges on a castle). They would get guild rep from this, but the town would remain accessible for others (for personal story, NPCs, way points etc)
How it would work to make it fair to the newbie:
- On selecting server a big warning pop up would come up warning the player that this is an open pvp server, and if they do not want it they can choose any other of the current GW2 servers
- No pvp inside of towns unless it is in the weekly siege state. In that case the way points would become contested.
- No pvp in starting areas (such as Queensdale on the human side)
- Some kind of penalty for killing a target who is not defending himself (in L2 there was negative Karma, which would make you an open target to kill to anyone. Also, if you have negative Karma NPCs would not talk to you or offer services) and some kind of way to remove it (trade in positive Karma or do some quest, Im sure Anet can think of something else as well)
- Guild wars system, where if a guild wants to PvP more, they can declare a war on another guild (amount of wars is limited) and if the other declares war back, they are open to kill each other at all times with no negative re-precautions.
Why WvsW does’t do it?
- It is too Zerg based. People do not go there unless they intend to do nothing but PvP, which burns the player out of it quicker
- It does not have the thrill of open PvP, which is created by surprise or the joy of hunting a target.
- There is nothing personal about it, while in open world PvP everything becomes personal very quick. One random kill can affect the server’s politics and quickly create enemies as well as friendship among players.

Classism, CoF 4 Warriors 1 Mesmer or Bust

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hantu.2815

Hantu.2815

It seems that you guys did not play GW1! Good for you, because dungeons there became nothing but:

1- Classism. Some classes were so unwelcomed that you would never see them even in the town of the dungeon. Ever try to look for a group for DOA on a ranger?

2- Pigeon-holing: Once a class magically makes it’s way into the dungeon groups acceptance, it is most likely because it has the ONE very efficient build to use. Unless a player would ping that very particular build, he would be kicked in a second. (Ever see a shout “lf assassin, not shadow form”?)

I do not expect this to change at all, while Anet did try their best to give all classes a chance at glory, it made them forced in a certain build. This is why i left GW1, I was bored of using the same build i did not particularly enjoy on a class that was designed for something entirely different (Elementalist that is a… bonder. Ok…)

When ascended armour comes out in time, I just hope that dungeon token armours are boosted to ascended status. I would hate to see the hours I spent in the dungeons made obsolete by this. It would also deter people even more so from doing any of the dungeons. Some dungeons are easy, like Ascalon. But some like Arah, take tremendous effort and amount of time to gather the tokens for the armour.

Incoming Mounts??

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hantu.2815

Hantu.2815

The only reason that would agree with the mounts in GW2 is that they have the same speed of movement that your character has at some point. e.g.

Normal speed of a character = 1
Speed of a mounted character = 1

Speed of a character in combat = 0.5
Speed of a mounted character in combat = 0.5
(with a percentage of losing the mount when it is beaten)

Speed of a character, with blessing of speed = 1.33
Speed of a mounted character, with blessing of speed = 1.33
(the duration of the blessing is the same in both cases)

The problem would be to design the mounts for each race.

Humans could ride on enslaved centaurs or doyaks

Sylvary could ride their plant dogs

Charr can ride some kind of a mini tank or a big litter box looking thing

Norn will obviously ride bears

Asura will ride a golem (much like a siege golem)

Incoming Mounts??

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hantu.2815

Hantu.2815

Mounts would most likely mess up the economy as well. Since mounts would mean less people using waypoints, which means players having more money, which means price increases in the TP. So if you support the idea of mounts coming you GW2, you support inflation in the TP.

Don’t support inflation in the TP… :L

Unless you need to use some mount food or have a mount rental fee. If anything they could be used as a money drain (Grenth knows we need one) with a high initial cost of purchase or a gem price.

I honestly do not understand why the mention of mounts generates so much rage. Seems like half of the people want them and half do not. That’s fine, why all the rage? If they do not break the game and some kind of usage fee keeps the economy as it is, I do not see why not.

If the mounts are cosmetic only, do not create unit collision, have some kind of cost to use and are not allowed in any PvP, I do not see why not. People who dislike them, will not use them and be happy. People who do like them will use them and be happy.

Maybe each class should have their profession’s armour? Kind of like the orders have their own skins, the races have 3 sets. Profession armours could be in line with cultural skins, vanity items.

Ranger: Just copy elite druids from Gw1, make male equivalent of the female’s armour by giving them a Tarzan-ish look

Engi: Trench coats actually kind of make sense for them

Tief: Randomly select any assassin armour in GW1, maybe add some sleeves and leg coverage if necessary. But I would love a ninja look on my tief

Ele: Some kind of whirling winds, water or flames (kind of like COF, but moar fire) being the majority of the armour would be nice?

Warrior: Sparta.

Guardian: Maybe something that could vaguely remind us of the Monk’s look in GW1?

Mesmer: A dress / suit with an overly excessive amount of feathers, crystals and lace.

About Charr, I think Anet humanised them too much all together, so the breast cloth is not surprising.

1- When they sit, they should sit like cats. The human sitting posture looks very awkward on them.

2- Their cultural armour should be VERY revealing, it would be the only way to tastefully show off their fur patterns. And, they are beasts, not fragile humanoids. Can you even begin to imagine how they feel in a trench coat with their body 100% covered Swimming?!

This is a GW1 Charr, looking more appropriately: http://fr.guildwars.com/images/uploads/charr2.jpg

3- What happened to the entire idea of the rangers being attuned to the nature? I do not feel very attuned to the wilderness dressed like i’m about to take the subway to work. What happened to the lovely branch/leaf/hide armors we had in GW1? We had noth revealing and not revealing types, but they looked a lot more “nature friendly” than what we have now.

Welcome to the Guild Wars community as a whole.

In GW1, it was the same thing. People would write entire full page essays on the forums about something that is completely ruining the game for them and killing it’s potential, such as a bugged tree branch that prevents them from taking a screen shot or the excessively annoying pixel of a mesmer’s rear view on a fancy armour.

These are the people who dislike the game yet have nothing better to play (sad thing is nowadays there really is no better games out there) so with their time they choose to write essays on forums. The GW community is composed of some very smart gamers, very good annalists and some mathematical geniuses. The down side of this: as soon as they reach level 80 and get full armour, this brilliant crew prefers to compose forum essays about very minor things. They sure expect excellence from Anet, but they forget that GW2 is a huge game made by people, and it is still in the making as we speak.

My advice is, just skip the threads that smell like whining and more essays, do not waste your time.

Forgot to add: The forum pages are overly white, I do not think I can ever use them again.

In my view, the Trinity Needs to Come Back

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted this in another thread but it belongs here too

A system that could work would be a weapon specific mode for each dungeon. I would like to see this done as I greatly miss healing and being part of a trinity group with assigned roles. It would also add some variety to the explore paths of the dungeons. This mode could reward the same 60 tokens, so people will not feel obligated to play it.

When you enter you will be faced with a selection of one of each 5 weapons/sets. Lets say:
Staff: Big AOE nuking style burst damage (Big to compensate for 2 not being DPS based)
Hammer: Strong melee sustained damage (Big to compensate for 2 not being DPS based)
Bow: Hyper condition spreading damage (Big to compensate for 2 not being DPS based)
Scepter + focus: Powerful healing skills (GW1 Monk style)
Sword + shield: Strong defensive (Full out Tank)

This could use the same system Conjure weapons use, but with long duration that will guarantee they remain until the dungeon’s end. To advance each person must pick up a weapon, and once they walk out of the start zone they cannot drop it until the end. The weapon is no longer available once it is picked. To complete you need each person to have one of the special weapons. To make things interesting, let people keep their stats, traits and slot skills.

So...I Just Thought of THE best Idea for gw2

Can u tell or show me where Arenanet said their game ist a pure or mainly pvp game? Don’t blame Arenanet or others form u Tod believe some people who said this will be a pvp-game. It never has been sold as one.

@ threatstarter:
There is just a small problem with your wish: i highly doubt that there is a group of people big enough even for just one FFA Server. There are games out there with FFA rules: Moral online, age of conan, tera online….. well Most of them don’t have playerloot. And all of them have a rather small playerbase. Do i really have to tell u what ist a big reason why them are not so well populated?
And One thing i would linke to know: why do u need to take away stuff from other players? Why isn’t it enough to get loot from players in WwW (generated not taken from them)?
You want a fullloot MMO where u can take stuff from others? I highly recommend u to play “The WarZ”.

Again: i am not against One Server with FFA rules. I personally won’t play on those and i see no real chance that this will happen ever.

Competitive Play for Everyone

Competitive play in Guild Wars 2 is easy to learn, but offers challenges for new players and hardcore PvPers alike. In Player vs. Player matches, small teams of players battle over maps packed with objectives, while in World vs. World, armies of hundreds of players from competing servers wage war across four sprawling maps.

On a different note, the taking stuff away from players is not necessary at all. I would be happy if they at least let me hit someone. There could no reward in killing a player at all for all I care

Again, no one if forcing you to join a FFA server, don’t like the rule set, done play, as for looting, I said non bound items, that being unequipped BoA items, karma, small coin or crafting items.

So wait, you’re saying 99% of people shouldn’t play FFA…and then wondering why ArenaNet doesn’t make a FFA server. LOL.

It always amazes me how oblivious “hardcore” PvP-gankers are.

Where did this 99% statistic come from? have you asked 100% of the player population, calculated the numbers and came up with this? I am sure you did.

Not so much FFA in my eyes, but world PvP.

I would love to see a server with the option of hostile factions. The Charr don’t like the Humans, let them fight! I think fighting over lands would be fantastic; the ganking and fighting with your allies would make the game so much more satisfying.

It’s the one thing I really miss from Zorld of Zorcraft. I was on a PvP server, and fighting others while questing, traveling, and advancing your character was one of the most FUN parts of the game.

And no, WvW doesn’t really do it for me.

That is what Aion did. Sadly Ncsoft messed it up by not staying on top of faction balance. The game had tremendous potential, but when Ncsoft realised that they need to balance the 2 factions it was sadly too late

I was in a dungeon group with a guy about 1 week ago. Lets call him John. During the run, the group had no idea what to do on a certain part close to the end of the dungeon. Instead of stopping and explaining to ensure success, John chose to cuss our groups with words I will not repeat on the forums, call us n00bs, scrubs, and then did the worse thing one can do. He disbanded the group. Now we had 2 hours of time wasted (Yes it was a crappy group of new people, but we were all new at some point), would have to repeat the run to get the same reward.

These kind of people make more PVErs quit than the lonely griefer outside of newb town in a PVP game. At least in a PVP game, I could write John’s name on a scrap of paper and find him. And grief him. He would behave much better next time I am sure.

Very sorry to hear that. But really, that is exactly the kind of player you’ll most likely meet on FFA servers. True pve players would understand communication and teamwork is the key to success and to put people before themselves. What you had to deal with is the residual remains of a griefer being only able to grief players any more effectively than this.

We’re only as strong as our weakest link and that is how it affects all the servers if a ffa server was put in place.

I.e leave FFA for a game which is designed for it.

Personally, I would prefer if this guy killed my toon 3 times on the way to the dungeon than did what he did. 1 week later i am STILL bitter at his action, in a PvP game I would repair my armour and forget about it. In worse case I would hunt him down myself and revenge.

In my personal experience, I’ve witnessed the complete opposite actually. I guess it would also depend on the maturity of the game’s community but it is difficult to compare directly, as every game have their share of kids and people who cannot communicate.

On FFA game: Those kind of Johns knew that this behaver will get them on someone’s “naughty list”, and they learned very fast that if they step on the wrong set of toes they will suffer severe consequences (all in game of course). They also knew that they may proc a WAR with a strong guild vs their peaceful guild. They knew that if they get known for this behaver no good guild will want them in, as it ruins their own image and will drag them into wars.

On the other hand, players learned that team work and communication was more essential than anything. That you would learn after the 1st time you get ganked. You suddenly become more aware of other players, of their actions. Without those skills you can’t survive. The game was a major grind fest and every death was very costly. That skill of observation develops through the entire game experience into team-work habits GW2 players can only dream of. People made guild parties to grind in open world, because they knew together they stand a chance to fight off war-tags. They knew that if they acquire a bad reputation, they would be denied of good guilds and good quality friends.
