Gosh guys, he’s just commenting about the logic of GW2, in which air and grass seems to be stronger than the steel of blades, shots of gun, etc. Have you noticed the skins? Or some abilities? They don’t look strong enough to hold such things.

Don’t worry revs, you got a lot of stuff warriors could’ve used. Now, you’ll be sitting down there soon with them

At least warriors are still fun to play, which is something that revs never were (in my personal opinion, of course).

Does anyone know which area is supposed to be the one between Timberline Falls and Sparkfly Fen? What there is in there?

And all that glacial area, Shiverpeak Mountains, are they cold because they are high (mountains) or is it a kind of planet’s pole? (I’m supposing that Tyria is a sphere like Earth, or it’s not?)

This week I leveled a warrior again for WvW – it’s my third, and I deleted my second. I geared him, but then I can’t do anything effectively, because most of the things that makes my warrior a warrior (class/profession-wise) depends too much on adrenaline. Guess I’ll shelf him, and will level a 2nd guardian or even a 2nd necro… And it’s really a shame, warrior is so fun to level, but becomes more or less useless afterwards.

I’m enjoying my berserker on pve. Never thought about bringing him to WvW though, since he would be the less enraged and frustrated berserker on all Tyria.

Hello,

I know I should copy and paste here what there is on the forum about viper x sinister, but I must go to bed…
Then, in short, the biggest difference is intensity (sinister) vs duration (viper). If your build is for PvE, viper works better, since mobs don’t cleanse condis on them. For pvp, perhaps sinister may be the best option.

And yeah, there are no viper ascended trinkets yet. On my berserker I put exotic trinkets – he’s full viper + berserker runes.

Another way to look at it is that the game that those people enjoyed for over two years and which they could play at whatever skill level they had was taken away from them and replaced by something aimed at the hardcore, highly-skilled players who were whining GW2 was too easy.

I don’t really get when people say that the game was taken away from them. Central Tyria is still there just like it was before. They only added a small set of maps which you must buy to play. If you consider yourself a casual that want to be able to play things at any skill level and heard that HoT is hard, why even bothering with the latter then? The whole game you already know is still there waiting for you.

On other MMOs I considered myself a semi-hardcore gamer, but on GW2 I’m just a casual, since I don’t do dungeons (I find them boring) and rarely do fractals (been thinking about changing that soon). I’m loving HoT, have played the raid on the day it was released and I instantly felt that I should improve, just like if I decided to play sPvP seriously. But I was never offended by that, since it’s part of those game modes. If you want to raid just for fun with no risks, World Bosses are there for that.

I don’t care if HoT is bigger or not than the average central Tyria map, what matters to me is that they are much more, say, engaging. I have an impression that many maps in the core game feel just as fillers.

The ones I like best before HoT were Orr, because they are dynamic and if you keep returning to it after have it fully explored, no matter if it’s just for grinding or pleasure (or both), you are there for the events, and not to fulfill hearts. I can say that same is true for HoT and SW.

Now if you want to complain about being small, bad design and borefest, what about Southsun Cove?

Edit: my only grumble is that I didn’t want more Maguuma. I hope next xpac will be about Crystal Desert and the area nearby.

HoT intermittent message is “You must press on”. If you dare not to obey, it’s likely the map will literally devour you. HoT is not like Kessex Hills, for instance, where you do things on your own pace, like fight some mobs here, do some events there, stand still watching an asura trying to bribe a quaggan to gather info about what happened to the nightmare tower, or a centaur telling (probably lying) that her tribe didn’t steal anything from the Lion Company…

What I recommend the OP and everyone else who’s facing the same issue to do:

1) play the meta and go with the flow. There are frequent pauses, and lots of people take those chances to work on personal things, like HPs, vista, etc, returning afterwards to their previous activities on the map, instead of simply leaving for the next personal stuff. Play the meta many times till you’ve covered all paths/lanes.

2) if the map seems to be empty, try the map chat. If no one answers, try your guild and/or LFG. There are many times in which people are there, but they CANNOT help, simply because they don’t have required masteries, or they are just exploring on their own and don’t have a clue on what you’re talking about – or, believe me, they are too scared with the whole environment to think rationally.

Keep in mind that just because someone is in HoT, it doesn’t mean that they really know how it (HoT or even the core game) works: I keep seeing bearbows knockbacking mobs that are standing on damage fields or already being fought by melee players; People fighting mobs (that are supposedly Armors job) during Tarir, instead of focusing on the octovines, aggroing those mobs to the zerg, making a hard time for everyone; People being AFK in the middle of decisive fights; Instead of dodging on 3 when you see that AoE on the ground while fighting the Exalted Traitor, people don’t move out, die and the worst: they don’t WP back to return and help those who are still standing; People dying near uncontested WPs on DS, not WP-ing back, waiting for someone to rez them, among many other things I would spend a whole day typing here.

Hey Arleon

The points you’ve mentioned are quite interesting. You don’t lower the power that much and raises the condi dmg quite a lot. I think I get your point about condi duration on PvE, it makes sense. I like it, overall looks good. I’ll have to spend some time messing with that to see if I can get something else, but so far I’d just switch Maintenance Oil for Sharpening Stones. I guess I’d rather sacrifice a bit of crit rating for more power. Would have to test it though.

Thank you!

“Don’t auto-attack on flamethrower forever if you don’t want to be kicked from groups”

Thanx for your info. I’m playing Engineer for the first time. Why would I get kicked if I auto attack with flamethrower? It was keen on using one because I see a lot of people using that. It was one of the main reasons for choosing an Engineer.

Thanx in advance.

Hey Cleric

I meant with that that you should rotate your skills not ONLY autoattacking and doing nothing else – I’ve seen some engis doing that (and adding what Jerus said, it’s a subpar gameplay). There are more stuff you can do and sure, when the other skills are on cooldown, then auto-attack.

Alternatives

Utility skills
You can equip what you need for the moment.
I usually have Elixir Gun on instead of Elixir C for extra conditions/control and stun breaking/heal. For World Bosses I highly recommend having Elixir Gun on and/or Firearms IV.

Armor and Runes
When building it I targeted at least 2k Power and 50% Crit with Condi damage not being less than 800. I have not done any Math about it, it’s just a sum of the material I found on interwebs. Any theorycrafting source around the best match for desirable amounts of power+condi on PvE will be immensely appreciated.

Armor:
The armor I’m currently wearing is Rampager. I have not tested Sinister. Celestial is not good enough to reach the target I set.

Runes:
I put Aristocracy because it helps with stacking and keeping might on while focusing on condi damage. Runes of the Adventurer seems to be a good alternative (and much easier to obtain).
Divinity runes are acceptable (I’m running them atm) as are many others as well: Elementalist, Balthazar, Torment, etc.

Weapons and Sigils
I have not tested with Rifle, just keep in mind that Rifle doesn’t have access to confusion and poison.
Off-hand shield does work as well (even for PvE).
I have Sigil of Torment for personal taste, it can be switched for many other sigils. Sigil of Corruption is almost a must, when it reaches its 25 stacks the condi damage becomes really noticeable – and mobs start to melt in front of you.

Gameplay tips

  • Don’t auto-attack on flamethrower forever (rotate your skills!) if you don’t want to be kicked from groups;
  • Learn to time Detonate Flame Blast on fire fields (eg. Flamethrower #4 Napalm) to generate might;
  • Don’t use flamethrower skill 3 (Air Blast) and Pistol 5 (Glue Shot) just because they’re up; They mess with mobs defiance stack.
  • Always rotate skills, remember to use your pistols for poison, confusion, burning and control.
  • Even if you’re not using it for fights, Elixir Gun #4 is a blast finisher.
  • When fighting waves of mobs, pay attention to their health bar, once they have a good stack of condis and around 75% health, you can move to the others since the condis will finish them.

Hybrid Juggernaut Build [PvE]

in Engineer

Posted by: Harbinger.5129

Harbinger.5129

Hello! After a time playing a hybrid engi I decided to post not the build I’m using, but the build I’m aiming to achieve. All suggestions that can improve this build are appreciated. It’s hybrid, but still more focused on power.

The build’s link:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fdEQJAqalUUpWr9dxALseRydBNqmA6CEgsKqh8x8FTA-TByCABAcCA2TLQkq/IlyvCVCKnOA92fY6HAApAWUZF-e

Pros:

  • It can apply 8 conditions out of 12, and if some skills are switched it can go up to 11 out of 12;
  • It’s not melee, but you’re still in your group’s range (sharing buffs);
  • It’s awesome against tough mobs (eg. Husks);
  • Has at least 1 AoE heal and 1 Condi removal;
  • Good amount of power while still hurting with condis;
  • Provides a long duration fire field with at least 1 blast finisher;
  • High mobility for PvE;
  • Very good for solo PvE content;
  • Extremely efficient in tagging mobs (eg. Events in Orr, millions of centaurs at Ulgoth the Modniir, etc).
  • Not too much squishy;
  • Easy to play;
  • Does damage versus players;
  • Doesn’t take forever to kill a mob;
  • Constant AoE fire auto-attack to satisfy burning cravings (Willow approves it!).

Cons

  • Really squishy for WvW, so proper adjustments and improved gameplay are required;
  • Damage is not the highest provided by power – it’s compensated (not fully balanced out though) with conditions;
  • Depending on the utility skills it can be very poor at breaking stuns;
  • May not be able to support your group that well.

Requirements

  • Must equip flamethrower as one of the utility skills.
  • While not ignoring power, a decent amount of condi damage is needed so that your large supply of condis can be noticeable.

Reasons:

I came up with this build after asking on forums about hybrid builds that wouldn’t use bombs or grenades and not getting any satisfatory answer. I’m not really interested in the parrot speech that condis on pve are useless or that the meta is power – if that is the only thing you can add, then I thank you but you can save your time and mine. Engis can provide almost all conditions in the game, and I can’t simply ignore it.

The idea behind this build is having a nice amount of power while being able to hurt with conditions. It’s a very simple build with easy gameplay, there are no complicated moves – perhaps only when it comes to stacking might which may require a bit of practice for engi starters.

*On my engi I mainly play open world PvE, like Orr events, Silverwastes and World Bosses.

“Why not bombs and grenades?”
I had another lvl 80 bomb Engi. I simply got tired of that gameplay and I wanted something different. I totally dislike grenades despite the fact that they CAN do tons of damage – I only use grenades underwater.

“Why flamethrower?”
Flamethrower when traited is able to stack might alone just by equipping it. It also provides fire field and a blast finisher. Another thing is that it’s mid-range so you don’t stay away from your group and the speed of its autoattack is fast enough to crit a lot triggering some conditions.

Harbinger.5129

Thank you for you answer.

And what type of gear would you recommend? I noticed that it’s quite easy to have too much power or too much condi, but it’s hard to balance both. Also, I have the feeling that a hybrid build also needs some defense like vitality and toughness. Another thing I’m not sure is that Sinister would do better than Rabid, for instance.

hybrid Engi (mainly PvE) without Grenades?

Does someone know any hybrid engi build for PvE that doesn’t use grenades?
I would like to try something like Pistol+Shield/Elixir Gun (or Pistol+Pistol), though Rifle is still ok. I am thinking about Sinister armor (I don’t know if it’s better than Rabid), but am not sure about trinkets and type of weapons when going hybrid (also their sigils and runes).

I will be grateful for any information.

Lets talk about loss of exclusivity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Harbinger.5129

I don’t get this thing of exclusivity I read at least once in every online game. It sounds something very selfish to me and also just a way to make some egos even bigger.

If I want something, say Glorious Brigandine, I know I have to grind for it. If out of sudden that same item begins to be available at vendors, more power to those who are interested in it just like me and won’t to have to SUFFER to get it. And it’s not because I grinded for it or payed for it, it means I’m the only rightful owner.

I hate when people say “You want a legendary? WORK for it”. I already have a real life job, in which I have to work (sometimes a lot). I don’t WORK in games. I PLAY games. And if you need a virtual item to inflate your ego, instead of games, you might need a therapy.

What with those knockbacks?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Harbinger.5129

Harbinger.5129

I wonder when ANet will do anything to teach players WHEN to knockback. I’ve seen loads of players (mainly rangers, unfortunately) who knockback enemies just because the ability is up.

I just said in Mad King’s Labyrinth for people not to knockback because of the melee players and to my surprise I had to hear after a while things like “kittenol. Yes, don’t use your abilities…”, followed by many “Yeah, just auto-attack”, “Troll, Durr”.

Is it that so hard for a brain to process the idea that by knockbacking an enemy all melee (and some mid-ranged) will have to stop attacking to go after the foe? Or what about the mob about to be frozen by an elementalist when an “expert” ranger goes there hits his mentally inane longbow 4 just to reset mob’s stacks and screw with the whole group? I’ve seen people doing that all the time on PvE/WvW and quite surprising on sPvP.

ANet made a tutorial for dodging. When will they take some care about this “pass the mob” fest and make a “Defiant for dummies”?

*By the way, I’m not creating this thread in hopes that people will read and try to learn anything as many of those mentioned players will never read it.

Ha! Some suggestions are really funny! “Change your ISP”, they say – as if changing the ISP is as simple as changing clothes. Also, many may have an issue with GW2 only, which means it’s not possible almost all the ISPs around the globe suck (actually all of them do, but it’s not the case here) and there are just a few that are blessed.

Also, companies can justify their online services issues with DOS, hacking, cracking, wordthatsoundscoolandhightechie-ing, and I hardly buy them. I can even believe Anet may have suffered any type of digital attack, but please stop spreading lies like those about Wildstar. No attack can justify that lack of polishment, poor optimization and unplayability that game has. Some say that game runs smooth, smooth is my kitten .

Greater penalties for Death

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Harbinger.5129

Harbinger.5129

I like the way the death system is right now. And I’m gonna tell you why: I purchased the game on the release date. Never felt very motivated to play it. I didn’t understand very well how classes work – there are too many possibilities (for instance gear and its upgrades). I remember I wanted to explore the world, but as I was only a casual player, dying costed me too much. Being part of big events was something I never cared about as I couldn’t afford dying the N times we may do in such events. In the next year I came back and logged in to see how things were – I still didn’t comprehend well how the battle and classes work. My character didn’t last 5 minutes and between having to pay to fix his gear and then the WP tax or simply closing the game and going to play or do something else, I chose the latter.

In events like the Festival, for instance, you will die loads of times, if I had to pay each time I died and will die there, do you really believe I would bother trying? If for you it’s very easy to make 1 gold each hour, for me who can’t afford playing this game 24/7, ONE gold is too much. Know that implying that everybody is on the same boat you are is a fallacy.

If they apply “greater penalties” for sure I’m not playing this game any longer as I wouldn’t be able to do a lot of activities like joining the Boss Blitz knowing that I would die loads of times and the expenses would be greater than the fun I could have.

Perhaps the system could be like: you toggle between “Greater penalities” or “don’t touch it”. I sincerely doubt that people like the OP would pick the former.

tl;dr: Not everybody is and will be at the same expertise level. Greater penalties are a pain for casual and new players. The game is better the way it is now: I feel more interested in risking and doing things I always avoided.
