I feel it was both testing and feedback that lead to Rev getting WS but I may be wrong.
I do remeber ruby or Roy mentioning that there was heaps of feedback asking for it
I feel like you’ve missed my point and I’m sorry if it wasn’t clear in my initial post
So let me clarify
I’m all for weapon swap.
I’m just saying the only way they could get rev to work without out it would be wither a forced WS or redisgning the trait lines to interact with weapons eg. Creating a legend that makes melee weapons ranged
Just like lighter i am completely AGAINST any sort of weapon swap. Doesnt matter if tied to legend or not, im simply against it. And even if these suggestions are not “original” they are still more original than weapon swap slapped on 6 classes. It is also not our job to come up with something original. We dont get payed for any suggestions here. Thats a job for developer. From a customer point of view slapping weapon swap was a LAZY band aid solution. Nothing else, it was simply lazy and uninspired.
Ok so that’s your opinion, which is fair enough we’re all allowed to have one, problem is lighter hasn’t given a real reason as to why it’s bad, other then it being his opinion, again that’s what he/she thinks but no real ground to ask for it to be removed.
Your not wrong weapon swap was a quick fix and I’m saying this as someone pro weapon swap.
But in regards to the developers, they did what the majority of the comminuty ask which was for weapon swap, end of all argument right there, yes it’s a quick fix and that having it makes problems but at the end of it the community asked and the devs delivered
Ultimately the beta weekend will provide some much needed feedback for both sides of this argument.
Ok, so since pre-ordering Heart of Thorns I have become more active on the forums mostly in regard to Rev.
At I have been seeing is “Remove Weaponswap” and “Why Weaponswap is Good”
So let’s start with why it’s good? Firstly the cry form beta participants sawing it was needed, Roy mentioned that there was a community outcry from those that were lucky enought to be in the beta. At current the only form of a disengage is with the shiro legend however without weapons swap there is no way to continue to apply pressure from a distance. Despite that it’s not designed those looking to spec into mallyx are somewhat forced to use mace/axe or a combination contain at least one to apply any form of condition. Weaponswap fixes these.
Honestly I really don’t understand why it’s bad, I do get that it is a quick fix for a number of problems that the Rev has in regards to gameplay mechanics.
If they were to remove Weaponswap
A good way to “fill the void” would be a redisgn of a legend and the core specs, an example of this would be Mallyx and having his corosponding spec give auto attacks conditions and so on. This gives those wanting to stay back with the hammer the ability to utilise Mallyxs legend and not get punished for using a hammer.
This is all my opinion in the end and I really don’t know how the Rev plays yet so I’m keen to see next weekend with the upcoming beta
Both sides just need to chill out and play the beta before you strike off weither Weaponswap is needed or not, it should also be kept in mind that what is shown and played in the beta is subject to change driven by the feedback given by us the comminuty.
So to both arguments kitten play the beta AND THEN make your judgments
Can’t wait * jumps*
However, the way it’s formulated makes me think that there will only be 2 BWE…
So maybe release is earlier then we thought
Well we can all stop kittening about it and try it out for ourselve next weekend
Human Rev
purely because i only really like 2 races and already got 3 sylvari
either remove weapon swap for rev again or give ele and engi weapon swap, let me tell you why.
Ele is a light armor class
Engi is a medium armor class
and rev is a heavy armor classnow rev didn’t have one at the start and that was perfect because you have 1 profession from each armor class without it, balancing them out but if you break this then you maze well give all professions weapon swap surely? it defiantly sends my OCD in a spin i will grant you that , i surely aren’t the only one that thinks this right?
At least i hope not :/
Please go back and read though this tread
You’re completely neglecting the fact that weapon skills are far more widely applicable than the situational utility skills. An Elementalist with 20 weapon skills and 5 utility skills still has more versatility than a Revenant with 10 weapon skills and 10 utility skills with weapon swap. Same with Engineer, who, with kits, can have up to 30 weapon skills.
Weapon swap on Ele and Engi would be near pointless, because there wouldn’t be enough room in their respective rotations for a second weapon anyway. The Revenant, on the other hand, was severely lacking without it, and even with it there is still quite a bit left to be desired.
Thank You
Watch the PoIs they had mentioned numorus times about the rework of condi caps and such
That happened a month ago. x.X
LOL my bad thought it was still a working progress haha

Staff would be great for the auto-attack (unlike mace and hammer which rely on skill #2 which is locked out at level 1). But there’s also the question of starting legend since level 1 characters get a healing skill, and Ventari would be a bad choice since it doesn’t have a true self-heal.
My vote goes for sword + assassin stance, gives you a sufficiently complex and strong auto-attack, and a way to heal yourself while being thematically consistent between weapon and legend.
Im placing my bet on mace >.> most classes start with a single 1h weapon.
Once all classes started with a 1h weapon yes, but they changed the system, e.g. gave lvl1 rangers longbow.
I was just wondering how that was going to work at lower lvls, dont you get most F skills a bit later on???
I feel like this sorta build could work well in PvE too with the up coming changes to conditions.
it would be really good for long fights building up condis dealing them out then swaping to Shiro to deal some flat dps
Make the skills actually meaningful and good.
Weapon swap does not solve the problem revenant has.
People will still experience the same problem with weapon swap, without buffs.
it’s not about having more skills, it’s about how the skills work, they are bad and need change.that’s it.
Weapon swap solves a lot of proplems for Rev given that certain wapons synergyse well with certain weapons eg axe/mace goes with Mallyx.
most of what has been shown and used in beta is subject to change so stop kittening
There is a feeling of a double-penalty. Cooldown prevents spamming (unlike the Thief with only initiative). And energy cost prevents chaining all weapon skills on cooldown (unlike pretty much every other non-thief class) and even prevents you using utilities when you want. It should be one or the other, but not both. Utility skills should use energy and weapon skills should use cooldown.
seriously … stop this !! i read the same nonsense in so much posts
1) the system is inspired by GW1 . and this is fine – GW1 also head Energy AND Cooldowns
2) removing Enegry would lead to increased cooldowns what will slow down the gameplay and the versitality – i prefer a 15 sec cooldown on Drop The Hammer with a 10energy cost way over a 20 or 25sec cooldown. (we know what cooldowns are normal on #5 skills)
3) Removing cooldowns would lead the utils to cost more as there is NO Energy drop aside from them
4) The whole gameplay would lead to the following situation: wait for 100e -> activate Upkeep -> nuke the kitten out of your skills while you have full 20seconds of your upkeep skill as there is again no energy drain on your skills -> repeat -> profit
This is totally braindead gameplay – just learn to manage your energy and/or learn to live with it or dont play revenant. The whole energy management is a main part of the Revenant class and it will stay this way.
We’re talking about ~5 – ~15 Energy here … most skills have an animation that is long enough to regain the used energy.
Agreed
besides from whats been seen the energy manegment is easy on the Rev then it was on all classes back in GW1
Just hit 80 with my First charactor and looking to join an active guild that work towads mostly PvE and Fractals content but i would like to try my hand at WvW too.
