Wouldn’t this just be warrior but with a new weapon type? They could just add a katana weapon with a different move set and accomplish the same thing.

It’s pretty insane how many people think “mounts” and then all they can think about is one implementation of mounts(WoW). Mounts don’t have to be done the way WoW did it. WoW is one game, it doesn’t have a monopoly on the idea of mounts. There are countless other games out there that feature mounts in one way or another and most of them far in far better ways than WoW(mounts in WoW are little more than a shuffle animation, poof and then a model change and a speed increase; that’s not very good).

Instead you could have mounts implemented in a completely different way, giving ANet an opportunity to really be innovative and do something that’s different(like, with a lot of the stuff this game seems to be doing with the MMO genre). They could have stables, where people could borrow mounts but not keep them in their inventory. They could have a way of calling mounts where they can be called(similar to red dead redemption). They could make mounts unusable in cities or certain indoors area. They could add a whole new level of complexity with mounted combat(much like underwater combat). They could implement a new type of minigames like “jousting”, similar to the kegbrawl. The possibilities are endless, people have to start thinking outside the very limited confines of “WoW” simply because it’s a popular MMO.

Unique Weapon Types

I really like this idea, even the whip for the ranger is pretty cool(it’s melee but still has longer range, and fits in with the pet class). I would personally prefer to see some kind of katana/Wakizashi as a thief unique weapon instead of a throwing knife though(there’s already that ability if you equip a knife in your offhand). Throwing shurikens I think would probably be more suitable as a utility skill though.

To answer the criticism, sure any class could pick up that weapon but that doesn’t mean that any class could make full use of that weapon. By that logic, thieves should be able to use maces and elementalists could use 2 handed broadswords. Just because they can pick it up, doesn’t mean that their profession is proficient in using that weapon.

This is kind of cliché, but I would love to see the katana added as a new weapon type for warrior(samurai), thief(ninja), mesmer and/or ranger. I know the 1handed sword is already in the game but it seems that most of its moves are focused on stabbing/lunging, rather than slashing/deflecting.

I would love the see mounts implemented in a fun or unique way. I don’t think they should be there just to get around the map(that’s what the waypoints are for) but instead there maybe to add a new dynamic to combat and short distance movement. Make it so that when you mount an animal, you get a brand new set of moves(much like under water combat) and where certain classes can only use certain weapons on them(maybe even introduce new weapons, like a lance, or new moves, like an acrobatic leap from the mount for the thief/mesmer). Make it so that the mount oesn’t just “disappear” when you’re knocked off your mount(crippling or knockback attacks could force you off), forcing you to go back after it. Give the mounts some sort of trample damage to downed opponents. Even if it’s primary use was to simply just charge into combat and break “front lines”, it would still pretty fun. There are so many opportunities to make mounted combat different, fun and deep. Something completely different from what you would find in other games like swtor or WoW(I really hate how, when you mention mounts, the only thing that people can think of are WoW mounts, or the way WoW chose to implement mounts, but ANet has an opportunity here to redefine what mounts in an MMO mean completely).

Add new abilities for empty main/off hand

It seems like a lot of potential is being wasted by making unharmed slots have no abilities. I would really like to see those abilities being used(I was playing a thief with just a one-handed sword, thinking it could be cool if a 1h sword “ninja” spec was actually viable). For example, a warrior with nothing equipped on their offhand could maybe use an empty hand to throw a punch, do a throw or temporarily disarm or dismantle their enemy. A thief with an empty offhand could use that empty offhand to pick up dirt on the ground and blind foes in an arc in front of them, trip an enemy, throw shuriken or grant stability. An elementalist could use abilities that are channeled from their hands rather than a weapon. There’s a lot of different possibilities there. They could also make the damage for those abilities based on characters stats where it’s appropriate.
