Guild Homestead - Next generation guild hall

Idea:
Okay, so I love GW2 just like all of you guys. And I know that Anet has said that they may add guild halls in the future. Personally, I don’t understand how GW can be GUILD Wars if the guilds are one of the most neglected parts in the game. I love the missions, and it’s a step in the right direction for sure, however, I couldn’t believe that they excluded content like guild halls in the release.

I was thinking today about guild halls as I was destroying some Hylek houses in an event chain and watched them regenerate. And an idea struck me.

What if instead on a single guild hall…guilds had an entire homestead (a large plot of land). This homestead would start off as a small town with just resident NPC’s, but you could upgrade them with guild merits, influence, coin, and crafting materials (more on this later). This upgrade system would be similar to the WvW system for camps, towers, keeps, etc.

Research/Building/Upgrading:
You would “research” or “buy” an NPC, say a banker for influence, guild merits, coin, and materials (green logs for building & platinum for the vault). Then in the banker NPC would be “invited” to your homestead and set up (meaning that you town would now have a bank building). And every merchant, armor, weapon smith, etc., would add a new building to your homestead.

Now, the small town would grow eventually as you invite new NPC’s. But your grand town shouldn’t be made out of old thatch and wood…so there is an “upgrades” NPC. Maybe he’s called a contractor (Another NPC that you have to invite). He and his builders would upgrade your homesteads into nice and smooth stone and steel.

Location:
How does Anet make every guild that purchases a Guild Homestead aplot of land in the world? That’s easy, an instance basically. Just like how you race’s main city has a personal instance, maybe out in the Sea of Sorrows or south of Southsun, an island was discovered and guilds were invited to found towns on it. That’s not my decision. Anet makes the stores!

Getting There:
So, the question is how to get there? Easy answer. Just like everything else, and Asura gate. Those little guys can go anywhere! There would be a gate in Lion’s Arch (possibly). This gate when walked thru would take you to your guild’s Homestead. You could even take your friends from other guild’s along as long as they are in your party.

And if you don’t have a purchased Homestead for your guild, you go to a little area with a guild NPC from which you can buy a Homestead or go thru the gate again. An outpost on the island. This would be a public place like any other area (LA, Divinity’s Reach, etc.)

Events:
These Guild Homesteads could even have their own events take place in which the guild helps out. Maybe a house catches fire and guild members have to run buckets of water to the house in time before it burns. (event chain here) And if they fail, they would carry lumber to the house in another event to rebuild the house. Maybe you need to fend off a bandit attack or stop the local wildlife from eating the sheep.

In return for doing these “events”, there would be a stockpile building which stores items that the NPC’s make such as logs, ores, or foods maybe. And only guild members who are allowed to access it would be able to take these materials. Remember how I mentioned crafting materials would be needed to make buildings too? Well, you could also deposit materials into the stockpile to upgrade and build buildings with.

Conclusion:
In essence here, the guild is responsible for an independent town. This town would (slowly) gather crafting ingredients on its own – making it self sustaining. However, guild interaction is a must. If neglected, the event chains (fires, bandits, etc.) would destroy the Guild Homestead which would have to be rebuilt in other event chains. This encourages guild interaction and creates a nice guild community. Literally.

Obviously, this would involve some work on Anet’s part. So, I would imagine only one version or style would be released at first. However, like the different locations of Guild Halls in GW1, I would hope there would be different locations on the islands for the homesteads (forest, beach, valley, plains, etc.) This would help make a guild hall more unique.

Breakdown:
-Guild Homesteads
-Upgradable buildings
-Evolving town like the personal story instance
-On some new island
-Events in the instance
-Great way to get to know your guild mates and create a close guild.

Stop adding TEMPORARY content

When I saw this topic I was SO HAPPY.

I’ve been saying for awhile now that the living story is wasting Anet’s money! They spend time on great additions and then take them away sometimes a few weeks later! When was the last time Anet has added substantial PERMANENT content? Not to say the somehow to manage to create more bugs with every update…

One bug for example is the commander tags in WvW.

Anyways, I think Anet is losing their touch or they are being mislead thinking people want this temporary content. I’m down for a living story. But leave the stuff there. Add more. People forget about old content anyways, so why take it away?

I just want some awesome kick-kitten permeant content.

LW: Mood too light?

in Living World

Posted by: Herschie.6380

I’ve played a vast majority of the LW content (besides the few over summer 2013) and I have felt like the over all mood of the LW is just too light-hearted. Looking around the forums, I’ve seen a few old posts discussing the same topic about the mood GW2 sets. However, I would really like to see what all you other players are now thinking about the mood (and hopefully receive dev input as well ). I think the mood needs to be darker.

Anyways, as mentioned above, I believe a major issue regarding the presentation of the LW content and the Living Story is the mood it sets. Many of the updates that I’ve played have had this light-hearted and almost jovial mood. I know that many players feel like the entire Scarlet LS content has been kind of bad and presented poorly. While I’m not sure if a darker mood would of fixed the LS, it would of helped certainly. Perfectly honest, I sometime’s feel like GW2 is geared towards little kids. This has resulted in many of my friends abandoning the game for other MMOs that have a more mature feel.

What I miss the most and what I think the LS really needs to do is look back at GW1 and the mood that it presented. That game was certainly dar more dark than this game, yet the plight (Elder Dragons) is far greater than in GW1. I don’t understand. The mood in Ascalon in GW1 I felt was pretty good. The entire storyline of Prophecies was pretty good I think – and the mood really helped. Anyone who has played GW1 knows what I’m talking about and if you haven’t played GW1, I certainly recommend you do so. I also played GW Factions and the mood was never like the mood is like in GW2. All of the threats from the first GW and its expansions managed to set this darker tone. That’s not achieved here in GW2 sadly.

Out of all the LS content, we haven’t really had that wow fact or felt anything in the emotional department. I want to be able to walk into a city and feel the sadness and the fear and the worry that the elder dragons have caused. Or even that the LS has caused for that matter. I don’t really feel much of anything as I slay the countless beasts Scarlet has thrown at us.

I haven’t read anything or heard anything about how the future of the Living Story is gonna play out, but I’ve read that the devs have listened to players and plan to make it better. I really hope that the new LS season manages to give off a darker vibe than this season.

Anyone’s input or information would be welcome!

Why won't you let us change races with gems

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Changing your race would change any race-related skills that you have. Also, it would change and affect any cultural armor you have. You would have armor bound to a character and that character isn’t even the appropriate race.

Not to mention the personal story is an integral part of the game. GW2 is an MMORPG. How many RPG’s don’t have a campaign (which is what the personal story is).

I agree with the other posters who say if you want a “generic” personal story, you aren’t a fan of the game. You can make a new character and level them with crafting.

Don’t be lazy. If you want another character if another race make one. If your character slots are full, buy another. Anet still gets your money that way.

You need LIMITERS on WvW randomization...

in WvW

There is a limiter! A tier 8 server can’t play a tier one. Someone on my server (FC) posted a link on how it works and that there are percentages for each server. There were just a few unlucky matches! I for one can say the IoJ-FC-DR is a decent match up!

New Soldier Class

Kinda long post but a good read. It be nice if Arena net dig into their past lore and resurrect this central part of GW1 as a new class.

Seeing as there’s 3 adventurers 3 scholars a new soldier to finish the trios would be a logical next step.

Hoping arena net takes something from this post and make some awesome.

I agree with that. Three from each armor class makes sense. I’d like to see a third Heavy profession. This class seems like a reasonable one. And I love GW1, so past lore would be amazing.

Mentor Fake Tag

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Herschie.6380

Herschie.6380

The way I see it, a Commander Tag is easier to acquire than a Mentor Tag. The 300g + 250 Badges is not that hard to get if you buy your gold with gems. You can technically have complete noobs running around in commander tags.

On the other hand, Mentor Tag is a mastery and masteries are for only level 80 characters. You would have to grind to level 80 if you’re new to the game. Then you have to unlock the mastery after that even.

You could make the argument a new player can buy the gold to craft to level 80 (which may or may not be cheaper than buying 300g). That would skip the 1-80 grind. But that seems highly doubtful because why would a new player want to skip all of the PvE and story content of a game they just bought?
