These master Traits are all terrible:
- Second Skin only useful for builds with near-permanent protection.
- Essense of Speed only useful for builds with a lot of boons and a lot of quickness application.
- Predator’s Cunning only useful for builds with a lot of poison application
So unless you apply a lot of protection, quickness or poison, they’re worthless. How is that going to help the spec and build diversity?
How about this instead:
Second Skin Conditions inflect 33% less damage while in beastmode.
Essense of Speed 33% movement speed while in beastmode.
Predator’s Cunning Steal health from opponent while in beastmode.Voila, done. Pack it up. Everyone happy.
I do definitely agree that some of these traits make no sense in there.
Second Skin
I believe it’s in a good spot, changing it to 33% while in beast mode means you can get a permanent condition damage reduction, which I reckon is OP. You can trait this one nicely with protective ward and eternal bond + you can add in ‘protect me’ for decent protection uptime.
Essence of Speed
Now this one, I’m not really a big fan of. Cause you’d have to apply quickness and then cast all your buffs. It doesn’t really do what it states → ‘when you gain quickness, it increases the duration of other boons affecting you’ → but it doesn’t affect the boons already on you, you have to cast all the boons whilst ‘gaining’ quickness. Tooltip kinda sucks and it’s hard to sometimes get the right sequence to maximise its potential. Swap this out for something better ArenaNet. Suggestion: perhaps something that helps improve ranger stances instead e.g. cooldown/duration?
Predator’s Cunning
Clearly a cool idea, but in practice not really as useful. I did try to get this crazy healing build using Natural Healing, Shouts with Regen/Protection, Signet of Renewal, and Predator’s cunning while running Shortbot + Dagger/Dagger, making you quite a hard kill. But the life siphoning from this skill is just not as good as a second skin that can mitigate far more damage. Why not change it from ‘apply’ to siphon per per tick of poison that’s already applied (with perhaps a maximum number of targets 1-2). Would make more sense to me anyway).
my two cents on these traits.
Keep into consideration that other classes use this barrier too, and it also applies to your allies. Let’s not make this thing Barrier wars.
To be fair, I barely play Necro. But when I jumped on Scourge yesterday spammed a few skills, people just died in a matter of seconds. I do believe it needs nerf, if a non-skilled necro player can kill that easily.
The F2 skill is sometimes still a bit bugged and not always immediately triggering after a pet swap. This happened to me particularly on Feline and Bristleback pets (smokescale was fine, haven’t tested other pets yet.
The Natural Healing trait is still not regenerating pet health. (not any additional healing what so ever at any interval…) I’ve tested in all environments, PvE, WvW, PvP. It does absolutely nothing.
When can we expect a fix for this?

Hey guys,
I met up with Irenio, who was heading into my area of the building to talk to me about this very bug. As it turns out, it’s quite a complicated issue and that’s why it took a while to address. But… it has been addressed, yaaay! The fix for this issue should be going out very soon, perhaps before the end of the week.
Naturally, for something this complicated, there are a lot of “layers to the onion” in getting it resolved, but it is very much in the devs’ minds, and help is on the way for our beloved, but lazy-seeming, pets!
Woohoo!! Thank you so much! Now Jolt is going to be eager to headbutt people again instead of groggily waddling into battle.
Does this mean also a fix on Staff skill 3?
Keep up the posts and comments guys. We need to get this Fixed ASAP (before the weekend so we can all have fun, no matter what class).
Still having the same issues here as well (unresponsiveness, staff3, on-pet swap bonuses not functioning)
Been playing Main ranger since GW1. Now this is the first time i felt like i don’t play Ranger, but a Domestic pet owner with a bow.
You’ve got to be kidding me on the response time of pets now. Three pet mechanics that completely got destroyed by this patch.
Petswap = 3-4 seconds delay before the pet actually does anything. Which immediately nullifies any of the on-pet-swap bonuses. Rendering the pet completely useless.
F1/F2 Skill = it takes another second delay for the pet to move
Ancestral Grace = SUPER DUPER BAD, how would it be that a pet magically dissapears and reappears from using the druid’s staff ability. Also: you can’t cast any of your pets special abilities while using Ancestral Grace. Furthermore -> it even interupts your pet’s autonomous special attacks which really screws up the game for rangers right now.
ArenaNet, you have dissapointed me deeply. I hope and expect to see this changed back ASAP.
I believe the only change i like is the Signet of Renewal. Everything else seems irrelevant (that is if you like to play WvW/PvP).
Most annoyingly:

Few things I noticed. Coming from a guy who has played over 4k out of 5.5k hours on ranger at least. I’m mainly PvP / WvW oriented so this is where I’ve put my focus on during the beta weekend. I’m pretty sure some of the things I mentioned might not apply in PvE, as I don’t know how raids are going to be, where GW2 is moving towards having a holy trinity setup kinda thing going.
First some feedback on the weapons…
- Weapon skills feedback – NORMAL FORM
Staff skill 1:
Appears to be a bit low on damage – even on a full zerker setup and it’s basically your only form of consistent damage output while wielding staff.
Staff skill 2:
This is a great skill, like the way that it applies healing and with a melee pet near your foe it will grant astral force nicely. Could do just a tad more damage in my opinion, or add an effect like blind (wisps are bright for the eyes you know). This attack can also easily be dodged it’s a fairly slow projectile compared to other ranged weapons.
Staff skill 3:
Great skill, but doesn’t seem like you can always actually travel the 1200 range with it, and all it does is give you a somewhat of a delayed heal/blast finisher. If it would actually travel the 1200 distance it’s a pretty neat skill – no change/adjusts required.
Staff Skill 4:
I found this to be the most useless skill out of the bunch as the vines are very low on damage, very slow and don’t seem to have a really wide range of impact as you’d expect (looks like the textures are wider than the actual hit box). Also, since NON-celestial form is supposed to be a more greedy setup, you’d expect to also remove a condi from yourself rather than only allies in a straight line in front of you. (You don’t remove a condi from yourself when casting this skill most of the times since you’re not being hit by the vines).
Staff skill 5:
Well, what can I say, it’s a nice barrier and can be useful at times, but would have been better served as a utility skill as it does on Guardian. (Staff skill 4 and 5 are pretty much useless versus a melee fighter who can: teleport/remove immo/immune to condition impairing abilities, or ranged fighters with non-projectile long ranged hits. Yet, it’s not a bad skill. Just would have liked to see some more damage on this skillbar, and normally skill 5 on ranger is a pretty decent skill with good damage out put/cc, no matter what weapon you pick.
- Weapon skills feedback – CELESTIAL FORM
Staff skill 1:
Awesome bursts of healing but no damage, not even a weeny bit. I’d say a cosmic ray can definitely hurt someone or inflict some condition like vulnerability on every 3rd or 4th hit or something (scientifically speaking). Or you can just rename it to Healing Ray :-P.
Staff skill 2:
Seed of life is a nice skill (sort of like ventari’s heal orbs), but the delay is just a bit too long it seems sometimes. But great skill none the less.
Staff skill 3:
Awesome skill, basically allowing you to do a 6 second daze. But there’s a problem, you can’t utilize the daze at all as all you can do is heal.
Staff skill 4:
Great skill, can’t say anything bad about this one. Both for 1 v 1’s as well as in team fights this skill will come in handy.
Staff skill 5:
During Celestial Avatar form is rarely used outside PvE. It’s no point using the skill in PvP/WvW situations since it’s a static position you have to maintain in order to cast (much like the ele channel skill, but without a way to teleport to your target and effectively hit something with this skill). Also, a black hole that only puts an immobilize on you? meaning, it’s cleansed in a blink, or removed by warrior sprint easily for example… Since it takes 2,5 sec to get the final effect, and all you get is an immobilize and minor damage, this skill is not worth using. I tried using it just to see, but it won’t work anywhere in PvP / WvW (standing still is just too much for these game types).
Utilities: Celestial/Non Celestial form.
I’ve only used the glyphs sporadically, but couldn’t find a nice place for them in my builds. I did try out the Glyph of equality and but just didn’t fine the effects worthy enough to replace for example a Lightning reflexes or Quickening zephyr. Heck even my Sic Em and Signet of stone with humongous cooldown just feels to comfortable to play with to swap out for a glyph with just (in my opinion) too simple effects. Even thought he cooldowns are pretty good on the glyphs. The radius of impact of most of the glyphs are very small, with a staff at 1200 range it just doesn’t synergize well (yes i know i can wispform towards someone, then combo with a glyph, swap to melee wep and such… but no, effects are not good enough for me really). Could there be a glyph that would do more than 1 thing, for example stunbreak + daze would make it much more interesting → Now you either daze, or you stunbreak based on your form. But you dont want to only swap to Celestial form in order to be able to break your stun with Glyph of Equality for example… Just doesn’t make sense.
The Elite glyph: looked good in theory, works out to be pretty useless in practice in PvP/WvW. Everyone has mobility skills and it’s easy to break out of it. cause the radius is only 300!?! 300 radius, just 1 dodgeroll in the right direction and the tether breaks. Complete waste of you’re elite skill i’d say. Prefer to go for entangling roots (condi specced) or Strength of the pack (shout/dps specced). Glyphf of Unity has no purpose in PvP for me personally.
The Traits and more general feedback:
Will be continued.. I’m tired. need some rest! Positive and Negative feedback awaits.

But put a bonus slot in the basic package, and this entire kittenstorm vanishes over kittening night. I promise you. Your problem is now solved. Smack some heads together at NCSoft and get it done.
That’s a little bit of an over simplification, there are 3 separate issues.
1. The basic version does not come with a character slot which many felt it should.
2. The vanilla game bonus is completely lost to players who already own the game.
3. The price for one or more of the versions is felt to be excessive.Accounting for all three to properly “fix” the problem as best as possible the following changes would be needed.
Basic version:
-Character slot added (P1)
-Gift for owners of the game already, Either the vanilla key or 800 gems would be considered the acceptable alternative (P2)Deluxe:
-Second character slot added (to maintain the relative value to the basic version) (P1)
-Gift for owners of the game already, Either the vanilla key or 800 gems would be considered the acceptable alternative (P2)
-Price reduction or addition of value (P3)Ultimate:
-Second character slot added (to maintain the relative value to the basic version) (P1)
-Gift for owners of the game already, Either the vanilla key or 800 gems would be considered the acceptable alternative (P2)
-Price reduction (I don’t actually mind the price on this one since the only benefit is the gems) (P3)
Good suggestions there. But i’d still consider that a wrong approach, knowing what ArenaNet would do in the past when releasing an expansion. It really felt like an expansion, rather than just some reworks and new features and adding a new explorable area….
Instead of adding 800 gems, make the price at least $10-20 less (entice your players to buy gems they really want, if they want, not forcing people to overpay and just add some virtual currency)

Can we just all be perfectly honest with ourselves here?
I suspect, the bulk of the complaints REALLY centers around the base edition not getting a bonus character slot. Let’s cut through the noise and just say it outright.
“Veteran” players want a kittening character slot, because they’ve filled all their slots and don’t feel they should have to buy another one on top of the expansion to play a Revenant. They feel this is cheap because GW1 handed out slots to play with in each expansion.
So can we just SAY THAT? Can we stop trying to couch it in bullkitten so that we don’t sound like “entitled brats?” Rather than run around in stupid circles over legality, quibbling semantics over whether or not the core game is actually “free” or “not free”… just say what we want here.
Arena.net. We players want a kittening character slot in the basic package. And ya know what? Most of us don’t even give a kitten if “new” players get that bonus character slot too (this entire fairness bullkitten is just another way to avoid sounding entitled to a character slot).
Yes, there’s still going to be those perpetually kitten that will never shut up about whatever perceived slight has triggered their rage bone or will always whine about the cash shop being the devil that is ruining gaming… but they’ll be relegated to the background noise again.
But put a bonus slot in the basic package, and this entire kittenstorm vanishes over kittening night. I promise you. Your problem is now solved. Smack some heads together at NCSoft and get it done.
To me it’s clearly not just about the bonus character slot as I’ve explained above. As a PvP player, it comes down to me paying $ 50 for a new profession and elite specialization. Nothing else will be new or different. Stronghold will be available to all.
If you think an additional char slot can make up for that? (Besides that I already have 20 char slots, what difference would 1 slot make)….

I am willing to pay $19.99 for an account upgrade that has the HoT content and includes a character slot. I am not interested in your products if you’re trying to scam me.
My thoughts exactly. Not buying at that pricepoint especially kitten off no character slot. LOL!
How is it a scam? Have you ever bought an expansion for an MMO before? News flash, they’re all $50+.
Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward is $40. Shut up.
Guild Wars: Factions, $50, Guild Wars: Nightfall, $50. No. Look at EVERY expansion for World of Warcraft then come back.
Factions and Nightfall were entire games. They each had as much content as the original game.
If HoT has an entire new region as big as Tyria then it’s worth 50 bucks. Those are the kind of standards I expect from Anet.
Exactly my thoughts there…
Paying $50 for an “Expansion” is perfectly fine. As long as that expansion lives up to the standards.
Just 4 examples that make it seem like we’re over paying for this “Expansion”:
- Guild halls were standard in GW1. First of all: why does it take 3 years to have GW2 Guild halls implemented and what about GvG’s? This should be the core of the game and shouldn’t be taken into account for setting the GW2 expansion price ArenaNet – you owed us this one for free.
- Both Factions and Nightfall had a whole new world map to explore with at least 2-4 major cities and plenty of areas/outposts -> Okay so we get a new area, inside an already existing map, and looking at the size of the maguuma jungle on the map it’s only one tenth of a new world map that we’ve seen in Nightfalls/Factions. Okay so you add some vertical playgrounds, maybe that will add up to being half the size of a world map ? (We’re yet to find out).
- Factions/Nightfalls gave us multiple new PvP maps and systems such as Alliance Battles/Hero Battles for example -> Okay so we get Stronghold, 1 map, with a game-mode which kind of looks like GvG which is another thing which the game lacked right from the start – and should be a standard content update rather than being something expansion worthy.
- Two new classes per expansion and at least 300-500 extra skills to choose from ->Okay we get a Revenant and yes we get specializations, meaning some extra utilities and weapon skills, but nowhere near the two new classes nor the 300-500 skills like in Nightfall/Factions.
My two cents…
(edited by Hidden Dragon.7523)
No, the core game is included free for new customers/accounts. Existing players only get the expansion.
There are plenty of discussions on this in the HoT forum if you wish to read more about it.
This is so stupid
I feel like all the time and money I already spent on the game is worthless because I will have to pay the same as a new player that doesn’t even have the game. 2 years of my life well spent
I agree with you on this, at least make the upgrade for existing players less expensive. They have been dedicated to ArenaNet all this time, and now get to pay the full price for being so loyal.
I spend loads of money in the gemstore. I’m guessing it’s time to find another game to spend money on and just play this one casually…
As a customer I don’t wanna have to read a forum to be informed of what I’m buying, it should be clearly stated in the shop. This is outrageous.
So why do they mention a standard version of GW2 is included… I want that standard GW2 copy too. It doesn’t say anything so specific on the buy.guildwars2.com site.
I’ve noticed that buying the Expansion Heart of Thorns also includes a standard copy of GW2. Does it mean that I will have an additional account when I only use the expansion to upgrade my existing account? Can I use the standard copy of GW2 which is added to the package as a stand alone?
Lol ^^… so Scoobaniec, why don’t you show him in 1 v 1?
MrKrataus at least played competive pvp at a high lvl in a top tier pvp team and won serveral go4s. I’m not sure if you know that but the difference between players who participate there and wvw roamers / 1v1 spvp heroes is like day and night.
He proofed many times that he’s impressive in 1on1 and 2v1 situations even against very skilled players you didn’t have faced and probably never will face. Also I’m pretty sure that he is able to handle a berserk hambow or any other forum hero, as well. But I can understand that he is not interested to waste his time. You don’t know for fact any of the things you say about other players here. Also, seeing that you had to edit your post makes you look uncertain about things you might have posted. Don’t judge what you don’t know and you might experience more things than you could imagine.
Have a lovely evening, Mr Forum Hero I lick boots.
I disgaree with celestial being any good on a hambow, howered i doubt that Hoax would stand any chance vs Kratatus due to this vid;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rRtOY7rkuQRandom jumpy dodges to make it look cool
Spamming important abilities such as blind in reflect – lol gg wp
Again spamming important skills such as earthshaker under blind
Spamming stancesPlaying no moblity build in wvw – my pewpew ranger would have banana on his face and gladly enjoy his freebag as i could kite that build endlessly so any other half decent player as well. If that thief was any good he would simply reset the fight and come back few sec later as right there he has a warrior that blowed up all his utilities making himself an easy to kill target. But well who still playing d/d thiefs today? So yeah im not surprised he doesnt want to waste time on 1v1, i wouldn’t either. Thats just my 2 cents. Now end this childish discussion as thats completely offtop.
And to say something about this topic, OP is spot on. If warrior dont get a specialization with decent skills they will become obsolete as mallyx revenants waiting to crush celestial classes – nearly endless boonstrip preventing any cele from might stack leading to poorly damage. On top of that high uptime poison on auto preventing getting downed people rezzed by warbanner.
Why you quote my message if you talk about someone else tho lol?

Can’t wait for a 1 v 1 ranked arena…..
I’ve won ton of go4/esl and im on the second best team atm, who are you
?
It’s nice that you are in a pro team :-). Doesn’t mean there are players out there who are behind the ESL/Go4 scenes, able to whoop your kitten . It’s just hard to get a 5 man team with great synergy, respect for those who manage to find/build a team.
But there’s plenty players with incredible skill who are not visible in the ESL’s. Clearly, it is just an assumption (since we have no hard proof of it right now), until that player whoops you in 1 v 1 on your twitch stream or something so the world can recognize.
I played vs the top players in the world (TCG/55HP/oRNG) and have been able to take them down in 1 v 1 encounters myself as an anonymous player. But i’m not a streamer, nor am I a youtube video uploader. And I am not showing off that I am on ESL/Go4.
I respect all the players in ESL/Go4 for their dedication and I hope they can make GW2 a true eSports game. I hope to be able to get in a team where I fit in as well. But don’t use the fact your in ESL/Go4 as a statement that you have more experience or are a better player, especially in 1 v 1’s.
Aside from PvP, there’s a whole world of WvW players out there who 1 v 1 daily too, they don’t appear on ESL/Go4 either. So.. you’re not king of the world mate..
so, you accept his challenge ^^. go 1 v 1.
Nope cuz you Just have to put weakness after his combustive shot (15s cd) and dodge HS and you’re basically safe from anyburs, that why celestial cuz its more versatile and still provide almost the same burst with Intel sigil and stuff
I’ve tested it don’t worry, and I’ve way more experience than you with warrior and any kind of match-up
Funny how you can say something like that.. I would suppose you guys go 1 v 1 ^^.
Also… you say you have more experience, based on what ? ahahah you’re such an internet Hero. I’m sure i will beat you down in less than 30 sec on my ranger :-).
seems like we won’t be playing tonight :-P. I just had a windows update rebooting my PC and now it says: Files Remaining: 1.
Here we go again.. download 1GB+ with 100-200kb/s average……
Why is this so slow today?
i’m at 1650 MB, been downloading for 1, 1/4 hours. Speeds between 0 and 900kb/s. But on average it’s very very slow compared to the 2-3mb/s I can download GW2 patches at normally.
What’s wrong with the servers ArenaNet?

Look forward to a fix :-)

Would it be a good idea to put the communities points in a short, clear concise post(s). Something like this:
Key areas:
- Insert key area needed
a small summary stating why it’s needed.- Insert key area 2 needed
a small summary stating why it’s needed.
______________________________________Desired areas:
- Insert desired area needed
a small summary stating why it’s needed.- Insert desired area 2 needed
a small summary stating why it’s needed. The key areas is where you think it will benefit the game and community as a whole. The desired area is what you like to see be added. Having a wall of text – whilst there is nothing wrong with it. Has a good chance of it being skimmed over. You don’t have to include 2 key & desired areas. Just 1 key & 1 desire should be enough.
The idea is to make Chris and the team read the posts with ease, to see what the player base needs, without having to go through walls of texts – and guessing what will be a good idea. They can then spend more time and resources on the areas that the community have heavily suggested via reading the most frequent key and desired areas.
Just a suggestion as to how it can be approached.
Sure makes sense…
But collecting as much data as possible and then processing it to a usable format I believe is much better. You want to have the fullest of detail when describing something. We live in an age of BIG DATA, gather as much as you can :-) then narrow down.
Cheers tho
Some things I’d definitely want to see are:
:-:-:-: Ranked Matchmaking :-:-:-:
:-: Construct a ranking system which will place you in PvP (sPvP and tPvP) and GvG matches based on your ranking, so all the players will be on similar skill and experience level.
- Example: finding the 5 versus 5 players with the same total matchmaking rating, so players with lower and higher skill can still join together, but balancing out the game significantly. Of course it would still be unfair if 1 person with 5000 rating points ends up with 4 players with 0 points on their first ranked match, playing against 5 players with 1000 points. But I guess you can figure that out ;-). Work some magic formulas in there, balance this stuff out.
:-:-:-: Guild Capes :-:-:-: (simple request, not so easy to execute I’ve heard – just promise you will eventually, we all love capes!)
:-: Don’t you just want to jump around with a nice cape and your guild logo on your back?
:-: Please also further expand the variety of logo’s/emblems we can choose from in the guild emblem creation menu
:-: Add an RGB panel where you can select a color, rather than just a limited set? (What about the ability to use all the dyes you’ve unlocked as Guild emblem colors)
:-:-:-: Guild halls :-:-:-: (and some things that should come along with having one)
:-: Ability to select or buy your own Guild Hall location and Node type (using either influence or gold);
- Node type could be: Cap points, Flag placement, Orb run, Beasts to slay in order to obtain a bonus for your team;
:-: Ability to upgrade your hall with merchants/bank/guild vendors etc;
:-: Guild vs Guild battles in your or the opponents Guild Castle (50/50% chance);
:-: A place to execute 1 v 1 up to 25 v 25 battles in name of the Guild;
- Wouldn’t you want to see your best fighter(s) take on the opposing Guild in a 1 v 1 to determine a victory from time to time, or just a glorious 10 v 10 or 20 v 20 battle? (Ranked or NonRanked);
- For these 1 v 1’s or 3 v 3’s or whatever small fights, you’d need a smaller duelling area in the theme of the Guild Hall it’s taking place in (basically a seperate cage/pit/arena for smaller fights)
- Basically the Guild Hall could also function like like a training area (1v1 up to 25v25), but all will take place inside the guild hall: so you can practice attacking/defending/splits/rotations etc;
:-: I would love to get back in to the Observer mode for Ranked matches of top 100 teams, especially GvG!
:-:-:-: Automation :-:-:-:
:-: I agree with what is said earlier in this topic about automation of the buffs/upgrades etc, but they are low on my prio list.
COMPETITIVE GW2 FTW!
