History Lesson Spam

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Iant Aman.4390

I have no idea what caused it, but since yesterday on one of my characters I keep repeatedly getting the ‘History Lesson’ mail.
I have not followed story lines linearly, thus have not completed main story line, but have already marked the ‘history lesson’ as completed.
Yesterday I have deleted 3 instances of the same message, today I have 10 more in the last 3 hours (probably generated on map or character change)

Please undo the Guardian Staff Nerf

in Guardian

Iant Aman.4390

Well, just realised in a casual PvE session that my ‘allround’ guardian weapon has been reduced to total trash by suddenly being turned into a pretty bad melee weapon. I suppose casual play style is not appreciated or desired. Guess EotM zergs will not get much swiftness from guardians anymore either. I wonder why they did it. The staff sure did not feel overpowered and the 600-range was also not enormous. This is not a nerf. This is a complete change to a weapon. (Wiki-description: Staff — Supportive weapon with mid range AoE attacks, healing and boons.) Supporting from melee range…? Seriously, Anet…

"Into the Labyrinth" NPCs bugged

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Iant Aman.4390

Iant Aman.4390

Still the same problem: NPCs do absolutely nothing at the final boss (Mordrem Predator during ‘Into the Labyrinth’) – no fighting, no healing.
After I died 3 times (for added frustration the boss seemed to regenerate exactly the same amount of health it had when I died, even if I was already attacking again), I checked wiki and since I luckily had a greatsword on my mesmer, as advised I stood right behind the entrance and slowly autoattacked (1200 range) him to death (~ 10 mins, yeah).
I didn’t check for buffs on my NPCs, but Caithe was funnily standing exactly in one of the spawn points for the rocks taking absolutely no damage, in fact she didn’t even move. All the other NPCs were nicely standing around me doing absolutely nothing (apart from blocking my view).
So, yes: take a ranged weapon, stand at the entrance (no rocks there and boss does not reach you) and then do something useful with your time while finishing this story step.

I liked the story and the new map; not sure about some of the achievements – they seem much on the grind side (saw a video of JP – a very big no for me; and feeding Hal seems only worthwhile with the current ‘workaround’, but I got the strange feeling the workaround will get fixed at some point; and even just a few hours into the patch already nobody seemed to be interested in fighting the champ in the Jade area anymore).
Please exclude the repeatable hearts from map completion requirement (or at least remember their prior completion so that after reset you don’t have to do them all over again just to complete the map)

I kind of like the surrealism of it though (as long as it doesn’t keep cropping up constantly and everywhere)

Though the OP’s question has been posted a while ago, here are my 2 cents:
- I finished that story step on 10 alts and have experienced the NPCs not pitching in during that fight in various levels of severity (however not the ‘all 3 just being bored’, which I believe in combination with the inactive pet really sucks).
- Rytlock seemed to bug out most of the times (standing there, just waving his sword in a ‘I am really bored’-animation).
- Canach had a high tendency to be completely useless as well (basically ducking on the floor while not even being noticed by any of the mobs)
- Marjory was for me the most reliable (hey, thanks)
- Funnily, for my last toon I had been so annoyed by that behaviour that I asked a fellow guildie to tag along (who had experienced the same problem) – and guess what? All 3 NPCs joined in the fight.
No, they never do much damage, but they are good as a distraction for the add-ons while you fight Adrienne. When they bug out, it’s as if they are not there at all. They literally just stand there/duck. They don’t draw any aggro from mobs even if they are (like in the screenshot posted by OP) standing right next to them. So they basically just block your way.
I’d call it a bug – no idea what causes it, since it seems to occur randomly and affecting a variable number of the NPCs. Yes, the fight is still feasible even on your own. It just takes a lot of time without being particularly exciting. (Advice: take another human along with you to shorten the pain)

Input on 8/23 Roll-back

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Iant Aman.4390

Admittedly, I had been mostly confused by both the sudden server downtime and the massive rollback the next day. A couple of achievements lost, maybe some gold – I don’t keep exact track; it was mostly confusing (I realized mainly because I suddenly didn’t have the Bloodstone Fen Leyline Gliding anymore…)
As I wanted to know what had happened, I went to the forum (not this thread, but ‘News and Announcements’, Game Changes… where I would expect to find such information) – nothing (yeah for the really sucky forum search – I put in ‘rollback’, you’d expect something might turn up even if you haven’t posted in the thread).
I found this thread accidentally via Dulfy (thx Dulfy, I’d be 100x more lost without you).
So mainly I’d like to suggest: Find a way to pass infos to the player base that actually works, e.g.:
a) In-game message that you are going to shut off the servers (I doubt that someone just pulled the plug in a panic reaction to the bug)
b) Ideally, in-game message (beforehand) that you might lose some game progress (you did know at some point that you’d have to do a rollback, right?)
c) Info message in the login-news (sure, the info on new items in gem store is interesting, too)
d) find ways to either fix the forum search or have ONE central forum/thread (postings only by staff + no commenting allowed) for game info (like downtimes; login issues; game changes)

Yes, I know, I’m dreaming

Missing Tyria mastery points [Merged]

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Iant Aman.4390

Same here:
Apparently some Tyrian Mastery Points have not been awarded to my account retroactively with HoT release and (judging from posts on other forums with people at a loss about how to get the Tyrian Points) also for others.
I seem to be missing 14 points (if I counted correctly).

I currently have 29 Tyrian mastery points (11 of which are spent).
Looking at the details of completed achievements allows one to see which ones are supposed to have awarded mastery points, for the non-completed ones you can see it more easily.
From my counting the total no. of Tyrian Mastery Points that can be earned is 80 (might be off a bit, if I miscounted or if locked achievements do not show potential points).
Here are detailed numbers for the different achievement categories (with the achievements I have completed and should have been awarded Mastery Points for in parentheses):
Story Journal: 16 (8)
General: 45 (31)
[Silverwastes: 7 (2); Dry Top: 1 (1); Hero: 25 (24); Explorer: 2 (1); Fashion: 1 (0); Jumping Puzzles: 1 (0); Bosses: 5 (1, Karka after release); Triple Trouble: 2 (0); Tequatl: 2 (2)]
Fractals: 14 (3)
Collections: 5 (1)

So I should have 43 mastery points (1 of which is Karka after release), but I only got 29.

I don’t think it’s one specific category missing (since none of my completions of them really add up to exactly the 14 points I am missing), but rather a random achievement here and there…

Thanks for looking into this
Iant.

(I have deleted the separate post I made yesterday, since this seems to be exactly the same problem – jeez for the sucky forum search :P)

Well, surely it’s up to Anet to grant a free bonus to new players (as they claim to do). However, 45+ € for the expansion is somewhat pricey and as an old player I sure do feel unloved (bursts out into tears).
I somehow understand that Anet wants to make some money with the expansion (also to make up for the costs of development). Which is why I can half understand their decision NOT to decide for a 20-30 € ‘just the expansion’ version.
However, how about giving something also to the old players – like 2 additional character slots and maybe a free bank tab expansion – that surely would not ruin Anet and it would make us old players feel a little less unloved.

Personal Story: Setting The Stage bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Iant Aman.4390

Bug on the transition from “Setting the Stage” to “Dredging the Past” here as well. After accepting the non-existing reward for the Stage-Setting, I moved on to the Priory Archives in LA.
Entering that story instance, however, there was no dialogue by Gixx, but I got led on directly to Sieran, who gave her side-tracking dialogue. When that ended, I received the Ascalon Catacomb mail, but got no option to leave the story instance, nor did the story progress (still telling me to go to the Priory Archives).
After logging out and back in again, I still had to go to Priory Archives. That second time, Gixx finally indicated the dialogue and the Priory introduction cutscene triggered. Then I had to go see Sieran a second time (with a second time of the side-tracking dialogue) and got a second mail telling me about Ascalonian Catacombs. This time, however, I got the option to leave the story instance and the story progressed to ‘searching for the dwarven relics’.

Feedback/Questions: MegaServer

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Iant Aman.4390

Iant Aman.4390

Well, I have somewhat mixed feelings about the Megaservers:
Starting with the positive things – after a longish break from GW2 I returned in December last year with a main character that still had lots of things to do. Exploring the map made me feel very much like playing a single-player computer game, as in the areas beyond the starting area there was hardly anybody to randomly encounter (and to help with most non-world events).
Doing the same thing with my alts in the last couple of days has been a very different and much more pleasant (and multiplayer) experience, though even then the crowds gathering at world events felt somewhat strange.
On the downside the loading screens seem endless, particularly at log-on and in the starter areas the chance encounters with fellow guildies had been much rarer than before.

Now with the recent update to include all maps in the megaserver setup my feelings mix a lot more against the Megaserver idea…
For one, the gathering with fellow guildies just does not work anymore (unless you taxi into the city most of them ended up in) and the chat option to mute anyone who doesn’t use the game client in the language you are using just does not work – at least not in Europe (where quite a number of people might be in an international and thus English-speaking guild while happily running their game client in their native non-English language). And – yes – I want to SEE my guildies gathering in the same place, so Guild Chat is no solution either.
I hate to even imagine how our guild missions will work (or probably not work) with megaserver…

So in my opinion the Megaserver thingy needs some more tuning to work smoothly.
One spontaneous idea (not sure if that is even remotely feasible, since obviously I have no clue about current server population nor the programming issues involved):
An option to shift from ‘social’ to ‘explore’ mode in the game client, where ‘social’ would NOT catapult you to some random megaserver but rather use the old system (overflow only if the map gets to full) while ‘explore’ mode would (upon next zoning) place you in a megaserver map with a higher chance to find other players (even if they don’t speak your language, or come from another server – potentially even your WvW ‘enemies’). Both modes should, however, attempt to keep parties in the same map (with contradicting ‘mode-choices’ one of the modes could be prioritised in that case).
I guess for some lower-populated servers this might have to entail some form of merging, but I guess as long as the designated server languages remain intact, people wouldn’t really mind that form of merging too much.

Halloween Witches Hat: one charge to use

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Iant Aman.4390

Iant Aman.4390

I think when ‘converting’ the witch hat (and similar items), you got 2 different things:
a) the triple unlock of the skin (which shows in your wardrobe and it costs one charge to transmute your current hat into looking like the witch hat)
b) an account-bound witch hat-item in your inventory
When I click ‘use’ on said inventory-item, I seem to get an option to put on the witch-hat (apparently without any stats) at 0 charges.
So it seems the gift-nature of the hat remains intact (as long as you just use the hat and don’t use the skin to transmute another item)

Battle for Lion's Arch Open Issues and Tips

Iant Aman.4390

Well, just some feedback on the recent Battle for LA-changes:
Loot seems to work now (provided you manage to do some damage to the knights: i.e. not no. 51+ on that knight and getting the buff).
There is (apart from disconnect…) however one problem that persists:
If there were really ~ 150 players taking part in event, splitting up correctly and sticking to the place in which they killed their knight, things would most likely work out fine.
In the last event this did not work out, though: blue knight got killed, seconds after red knight (unfortunately the health bars seem to be bugged, so there is no way of telling). All of blue knight people zerged on to green knight, apart from three of us. Green knight got killed, we got loot chest, the three of us (not in the same party) entered ‘our’ portal and found ourselves alone in that corner of Scarlet event.
Slowly a couple of others followed (probably excess numbers from one of the other corners) until we were around 9 when the event finally started (some may have left, because there seemed to be nothing happening for a while)
Have you ever slain the hologram with 9 players? No? Me neither…
So, stage one seems to work ok-ish now (once everybody gets the ‘split up or get no loot’ message). Stage 2 (fighting the holograms) will need some re-consideration in my opinion.

Ashford 'retrieve cannonballs' glitch

Iant Aman.4390

When I just did the ‘retrieve the cannonballs from the Skritt’ event (Gandara server, Plains of Ashford) the Skritt did not turn hostile when I picked up the cannonballs.
Or to be more precise: they briefly turned red, gave their little speech, then turned yellow again and did not attack or move in any way.
No big deal, as the event can be completed normally, it just makes it somewhat boring

(happened on a downscaled lvl 80 character)

During the Code Breaker part of the storyline there are a couple of sections where the spoken audio is nowhere near the written transcription.
Most notably in the final section (Hoelbrak), when part of the Priory dialogue gets spoken by the Vigil guy (not transcribed) and then later is repeated by the Priory scholar (this time with transcription)

Priory personal story bug

Iant Aman.4390

Experienced the following bug in Dredging up the Past:
First attempt: I discovered the first 2 artifacts and went on to the third indicated site. I investigated the site before I killed off the dredge around me, triggering the dredge chief + dialogue. “Killed” the chief and got the final cutscene, however the ‘leave instance’ button never appeared and the quest did not update (to go and talk to Gixx).
In the dredge cave was still the prison with two prisoners, whom I could greet, but they gave no storyline, but the random NPC answers and I could do nothing to free them. (so I left the instance by walking out of instance territory)

Second attempt: I first cleared the cave of dredge, when the cave was clear (but I had not looked for any artifacts) the ‘free the captives’ mission objective appeared and the captives ran past me (apparently freed already without me doing anything else but kill off the dredges which triggered and finished the objective apparently at the same time) with their ‘being freed’ dialogue. After that I did the investigation objectives and ended up with the same final cutscene as before – this time ending the mission correctly (with exit button + update go to Gixx)

Waypoint Costs

I think that decreasing the waypoint fee – especially for resurrection – would be nice. I also think that travelling from a waypoint inside a town to a (obviously already unlocked) waypoint in another town should be free.
Ultimately it would probably also mean less stress on the servers since players would not hop through Lion’s Arch all the time (after walking to an Asuran gate in the town that they only want to leave…)

I don't need butter! Or Eggs! I'm not a Chef! I'm a leatherworker!

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Iant Aman.4390

Iant Aman.4390

Well, I completely agree – I have actually been farming bandits like silly (even before the butter-change) just to try and get the jute I needed to level my tailor.
For the other crafting professions I have tried so far (apart from leatherworker) it appears that I am rather quickly able to craft items I cannot actually use due to level restrictions. For tailor it seems to be tough to craft items that are even remotely useful at the level I am…
Jute scraps have been at around 25 copper without the butter-drops from bags. After the ‘butter-change’ I now get about 25 butter vs. 3 scraps of jute from the bags (before it was about 10-12 jute scraps from the same amount of bags). Add to that the scarcity of the necessary additional items (blood, venom etc.) making the levelling process even worse.
Please, make tailor and leatherworker viable professions and increase jute drop rate or add a plant you can gather it from maybe… it’s just jute after all (though my guess is that wool is going to turn into a similar problem)
