I would like to dress my thief out with a skirt instead of leggings, anyone know any good armor/combination for this?
And there seems to be a lack of good shoulder/boot pieces.
Are ruby orbs better than scholar runes?
Why don’t people use signet of agility a lot more? I don’t see it that much nowadays, even though it’s a condi cleanse in a condi world.
Hi there, returning player here. I’ve played GW2 since release until right about halfway through november last year, and now I’m trying to come back to playing this game. When I left, I had a level 80 thief and a level ~20 elementalist, with the thief being decked out in Valk+Berserk Exotics and magic find sigils/trinkets. Then I sort of quit her for a while and started the elementalist, after getting a bit bored of thief’s weapons and builds. (Ran S/D back then, when Flanking strike was still hella bugged)
Now, after playing elementalist a bit again and leveling her, I also started to get tired of her, also after learning how the changes this past year has punished having alts. WEXP, Laurels, and now recently the dungeon reward changes facilitates the use of only 1 main character. And now I’m having trouble choosing.
I like the idea of thief’s playstle, evading, being slippery and all, but the fact that they’re pretty much useless in high level PvE is a bit of a turn off. I wanted something more all around, but the playstyle was just attractive. Now I played wvw, found my character too weak to actually be of help roaming, doing ~4k backstabs with a 0/30/30/10 D/P build. PvP is sort of fine though.
But in that regard, the elementalist is more attractive for me in pvp, with all the fun button-pressing, bunker/fresh air builds, and just having to really “fight”. But trying to level her up so I can use her in PvE, dungeons, and WvW is just a daunting and unrewarding task.
So, is maining a thief still worth it, and can anyone recommend a few things I can do to get back into shape after all these months? Or should I just continue the elementalist and build her up instead?
boy this post got long
SB/ S/D Build.
Focusing on survivability, dodging, and general support fire for sPvP. I tried to build it with a roaming build in mind, going between points and providing support fire for wherever the team may need me. Picked shortbow main to cause havoc and conditions, and S/D to continue with the theme of disables/conditions.
As for the equipment, Carrion amulet for that boost to survivability and poison/bleed damage, Runes of Lyssa because it works amazingly well with Basilisk Venom. Sigil of Superior Energy/Hydromancy for switching during fights.
General gameplan is to use a venom, pester opponents and just generally avoid getting killed. Will NEVER, EEEEEEEEEEEEVER do well in a 1v1 situation, you need at least 1 teammate at all times, but with the way this build is supposed to be played you’ll always have at least one teammate during all your fights.
Comments and help would be greatly appreciated

Well, while saving up for divinity runes, (only have 2g at the moment), should I use the pirate runes instead?
Sorry, I would’ve thought the armor set I’ve given would’ve said something about my stats. Editing my first post.
Hi, I just made my first exotic set (3 Berserkers + 3 Valkyries) and I was wondering, which rune set should I use for this character? And would it be worth it to use Pirate + Traveler rune combo for magic find instead? I’d get about 90% total MF if I do this.
My build:
0/30/25/15/0, D/D -Shortbow.
I mainly took stealth traits to continually stealth (C&D) and backstab in PvE/WvW. Running Berserker weapons as well.

Would a generic 0/30/0/20/20 DP build work for Dungeons/DEs?
^ May I just ask… Why get Mug? Why not just put 10/5 more in acrobatics and possibly get Fleet of Foot or some other survivability spell?
Dagger + Pistol Stealth build is fun. Has tons of survivability and with a bit of might stacking, does a lot of damage as well. Using blackpowder + heartseeker to stealth + blind, as well as shadow refuge/hide in shadows, you have tons of ways to break combat and survive, and setup backstabs and heartseeker crits.
I bought the exotic for my D/P blind/backstab build and it’s worked out fine for me so far. Was just wondering if the dagger is still viable for a condition build if i decide to run one.
So does this mean I’m not completely screwed if I want to switch to a DB-Bleed build, having bought an exotic Berserker’s Dagger? And if I wanted to buy another exotic, another berserker/rampager/Traveler/explorer would be good?
Steal doesn’t interrupt your previous action, it teleports you mid-action. So if you’re doing something and you press steal, you teleport then break your own stealth when the attack finishes. Make sure you aren’t doing anything when you steal. To avoid this, I just dodge then steal or time it right after my attack animation.
They structured it like war by making it 24/7.
I seem to be missing the point here: We have a poor day team? We were holding our own against simultaneous attacks. And we’re unfair because we have a capability that you don’t? Because we could stay up for just a bit more, and you couldn’t? Setting a good rotation for your WvW duties throughout the clock is part of the whole fight. Nobody’s stopping you from recruiting people from other timezones. If and when we do see you again, then it’s your job to find a way to neutralize our “advantage”, instead of complaining about nightcappers on the forums.
You say you have no issues with nightcappers but the only point you seem to be implying is that it’s unfair we can organize night teams.
The bigger picture is, WvW is 24/7. If they didn’t want nightcapping they would’ve put in schedules.
If I may just give another side to this issue: I come from a guild of friends who live in an entirely different timezone from you guys (Asia) And we actually came to NSP because we heard that the server had a big community from similar timezones as ours, so we didn’t have to play in barren wastelands and deserted maps.
I believe “nightcapping” shouldn’t be an issue in wvwvw. In the first place, it was designed to run 24/7. And it would be unfair for us if something such as “nightcapping” is looked down upon, because for us it’s the normal time we can wvw. While we agree that the number of people online and defending at a given point in time is a major factor with regard to actually being able to capture territory, we disagree with the line of thinking that ‘nightcapping’ is unfair, because for a lot of people, your ‘late night’ is our ‘early afternoon’. While it -is- true that people do stay up late (or, in our case, we woke up extra early to make it to the reset-time battle) to take keeps, for others, it’s simply a matter of when it’s most convenient for us to be online. We didn’t stay out of the fights, waiting until we could steal everything from you while you slept. We fought while you guys did, held our own even when we were fighting both FC at the garrison and AR at the bottom part of the map. It wasn’t our fault that we had a more diverse population (or simply more people, but other people have touched on this). And besides, as the other NSP people have said, it wasn’t our fault that we could find more people who were willing to stay up late, people who were willing to commit to wvw enough and are dedicated enough to play up ’til early morning just to secure our positions.
Still, hopefully soon we can move on to more ‘even’ matchups so there will be less of this in the future. If we move on to higher brackets and get demolished there, then okay. But from what I’ve seen from our side, our top guilds have the organization necessary for us to at least put up a fight, and I bet many from our side are willing to follow. Who knows, maybe someday (and maybe soon), we can fight again, on more ‘even’ ground.
TL;DR: Asians play this game too.
Buy a Masterwork set from the TP. Valkyrie/Knight/Carrion/Berserker sets won’t exceed 10s. Or wait for Level 400 Leatherworking and craft exotics.
I crafted the Valkyrie masterwork set anyway for leatherworking exp. Got it to 379 now.
So I’m currently at 370 Leatherworking, running a 0-30-0-20-20 Sword/Pistol build.
I have 3 set options to craft:
1. Valkyrie Set (Masterwork)
2. Valkyrie Set (Rare) —- will take me double the price
3. Explorer Set (Masterwork)
I’ll use this for General PvE, probably dungeoning, and WvW. Which set is the most usable?
My stealth/crit/backstab build. Need comments/opinions for this, how to make it better. The build in the link is for sPvP but I’m trying to adapt it to general PvE (and dungeoning).
My general rotation goes like this: Steal (which makes me stealth), backstab, use whatever stolen skill I have, then 3 or 5 to blind, then use heartseeker for damage and stealth if I use 5. Then I backstab again and finish off whatever’s left with heartseeker + Assassin’s Signet. What’s fun with this build is I gain stacks of might when I steal, go stealth, etc, but it’s still hard to maintain a pretty high count. Also, the blinds help my survivability and keeps me stealthed, too. And I have shadow refuge/thieves guild for emergencies.
But then there are a few problems:
1. Handling mobs: I switch to shortbow, but the stealth aspect of it pretty much dies. Maybe I should use a venom utility instead? I find it hard to kite mobs since the cripple skill only cripples one. Or just blind ’em with dagger/pistol? Maybe I can also use Basilisk Venom for this purpose, and just use that as my elite.
2. Should I stick with 10 Trickery for Thrill of the Crime, or 10 Acrobatics for Power of Inertia? Any other traiting suggestions are welcome.
3. Not sure what armor set I should use. I’m planning to get a travelers set for general PvE for a while, but not sure if I should go Knight’s, Carrion or Berserkers for my main armor set. EDIT Possibly Valkyrie as well.
