- Clean installation of your video card drivers (may need to do this through a Third-Party application such as Driver Fusion) !
Tried this, currently at 306.97. No change.
- Update your version of DirectX!
Fully up to date – DirectX 11, no updates available.
- Either disable SPI Firewall or bypass your router and connect directly to the modem
Tried both diabling SPI and bypassing modem. No change.
- In your Nvidia Control Panel or Catalyst Control Center, set your Anti-Aliasing settings to “Application Controlled.”
This is my current setting.
- Delete the local.dat file and follow with a repair of the game client.
Tried this. Still getting black screen errors.
- Re-seat your graphics card (remove the card and put it firmly back into place)
Have not tried this.
I do not suspect this is a graphics issue specificially, but a symptom of a network error. When the black screen occurs, the application is still running – pressing function keys brings up menus over top of the blackscreen and I can select and change options in these menus to my hearts content. The instant the black screen appears, however, my guild mates and party members see me go offline.
Also, I can cause a black screen almost on-demand by logging off and selecting the “Go to character select” option.
If there is any information I can collect that would help debug this issue I would be happy to gather and send it.
This has been occuring since beta. Occasional black screens and instant disconnect. Mostly occurs in sPvP, but once in a while in WvW and all parts of PvE. I’ve tried different network settings, removing/replacing router equipment, changing video settings, etc.
I’ve always been able to Alt-F4 and restart the client, sometimes with an immediate second crash with an error message about the login server not being able to connect to the instance but mostly everything starts up cleanly.
Generally, it’s an annoyance everywhere except sPVP which is unplayable, and Fractals because this crash removes you from your groups instance.
Any suggestions for how to debug or collect more information about this type of crash is very welcome.
Happened twice last night… no error codes were reported, the game crashed with the ubiquitous black screen. Mouse pointer active, sound playing, but no video. Alt-F4 and a client restart is the only fix.
Fixing specific disconnect issues will not correct the root problem. It doesn’t matter what the reason code way it’s still a run ender with no ability to rejoin your team.
So… now that the manifesto is out the window, and specific infusions for specific roles are in, when will I be able to roll a tank/healer?

Still getting black screens contantly in sPvP… but I did manage to finish one match today, yay! Black screens don’t happen very often elsewhere for me, I can play WvW or any sort of PvE all night and only get one every 2-3 hours.
As for the disconnects, I’m trying the /clientport 80 option, not sure if it helps at all yet. I have a question though: if I want to combine the extended FoV and the clientport option what should my shortcut target look like?
Currently, I’ve got it set to:
“D:\Games\Guild Wars 2 Beta\Gw2.exe” /clientport 80 -testVerticalFov
So, if you are thinking of quitting, what would have to be in the next patch to change your mind?

Bug fixes… crash fixes… blackscreen fixes… any of the above would help, but mostly what I’m looking for would be communication to know that someone at ANet is actually looking at issues, and everyone there isn’t just saying that will be doing something about anything “soon”.

Errors happen far more frequently in sPvP… I cannot complete a match without either a blackscreen or disconnect happening.
I haven’t seen error 7:11:189:101 yet, but I have seen a few different error codes… all have the same effect. Often it takes 2 client restarts to start working again, the first one immediately crashes with an error connecting to the login server after selecting the crashed character.

Not this time… error is “Please check your internet connection and try again. (Code=21:5:11:2171:101)”
I’ll see if I can collect other error codes…

After yesterdays patches, I am getting frequent black screens and network errors/disconnects – sometimes it will crash minutes after logging in, sometimes it will last the better part of an hour before crashing. I have added the -testVerticalFoV flag to my launcher shortcut, but nothing else has changed. In every case force closing (Alt-F4) the client allows it to relaunch and run normally.
Any idea where I can look to determine what might be going on?

I have to agree. The amount of progress and level of communication from ANet about bugs, game state and future directions is beyond bad.
It’s been 13 days since any sort of patch that effected class abilities.
To the best of my knowledge, Sept 18 was the last time any sort of communication happened about the state of the profession – over a month ago.
I know more about the state of development and bug fixing in games THAT I HAVE NEVER PLAYED than I do about this one, I have recently begun to ask myself why I continue to support a product that is not supporting me.
I played a game with max lvl 220/30/70 lvls before, the more the merrier :p
I still miss my enfo…
More to the point, the number of levels doesn’t really matter: if you have to spend forever gaining them then levelling becomes the game, if you gain them quickly then you need other ways of advancing once you reach max. Either way works well – when it’s balanced.
In GW2 you can finish the main story as you level, and levelling to 80 can take very little time. 1-80 goes by too fast for levels to be the main point, and finishing your story so quickly leaves little content to run once you reach max. As a result there are a bunch of 80s standing around wondering what to do, other than grinding content they have already seen.
The numbers of events seem to vary immensely zone-by-zone. For instance, I finished all 5 events for my daily yesterday in about 10 minutes by zoning into the Plains of Ashford (Charr starting area) and running to the Ascalonian Catacombs entrance. It seemed that every step of the way had a new event spawning.
Running through Gendarran Feilds though I could go for an hour without seeing a single event.
I’m sorry but that is absolutely ridiculous. I have 0 interest in WvW combat yet I have to have it forced down my throat in order to get a PvE based goal? You’ve got to be kidding me.
I already have to spend tons of gold teleporting between waypoints, fixing armor, and dealing with terrible drops and experience from PvE areas that are too low for my level, and now I also have to deal with a gametype I had absolutely no intention of playing – one that forces me to deal with real players who go out of their way to keep me from doing objectives that are trivial compared to the real goals.
I’m not sure who thought this would be a good idea, but they clearly never considered that massive grief potential in killing players who are trying to get exploration objectives rather than focusing on actual WvW goals. Needless to say having ANY goals inside the WvW arenas that aren’t specifically beneficial to WvW is completely counterintuitive in the first place.
Sorry Anet, but this is probably the biggest middle finger you’ve given the PvE community since you gut half the skills in GW1 for the sake of PvP balance before the skill split.
100% agree with you Darm. I abhor WvW, yet I’m forced to go there for map completion and monthy achievements – I am assured that the WvW players do not want me there, I don’t want to be there, but the mechanics of these game elements force unwilling partipants like myself to join for enormous amounts of time preventing players who actually like the format from getting through the queue.
