" rends the armor of foes in front of you" so if i use this 6 times on the same person, the 7th time will break their armor? wat
and nty to making gravedigger a wonky leap like shroud 2
Thanks!
I’m going to make a reaper melee condition build I think… I can feel it in there somewhere, just have to work it out… Maybe sinister gear with scepter/GS. 100% chill and weakness uptime will be awesome group support I hope.
The autoattack and dhuumfire kept 3-4 aoe burn stacks, with the 100% condi duration on scepter this could turn into around… 6-7 stacks of “permanent” burning doing 3.5-4k dps without the autoattack’s damage. Then you can go out, use epidemic and have 12-14 aoe burning for 2 – 3 9k aoe ticks… oh right, also chill might be doing the same damage current burning does. Based on the demonstration on the guardian (with carrion) burning did 4.5k per tick at 6 stacks. Hope that stops people from crying about condi being ruined due to the redistribution of terror/lingering etc…

Looks to me an awful lot like Gaheron’s coffin that we can see at the end of CoF path 2
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Coffin-in-CoF/first#post2243656
Perhaps now Gaheron has joined with Mad King Thorn…idk
Aww beat me to it, first thing i thought after seeing it was the Khan-Ur’s coffin in p2. Now it’s probably gonna be the king’s lil’ boy.
The shatterer change with transforming people into branded like in the beta would actually be nice…
Yes i’ve noticed this issue a lot, especially in Orr (cursed shore mainly) where there is either no music most of the time (and i have it on minimal intervals) or it’s playing music that’s pretty off from the zone’s theme. For example in the Cursed Shore i’ve heard pre-searing music from gw1 (autumn in ascalon was the track’s name if i remember right) and krytan-themed tracks which i hope will be fixed…eventually.
1) The second Mouth of Zhaitan being killed may not have directly influenced him becoming weakened.
2 and 3) Apparently you didn’t pay attention to one of the possibly-four missions where it’s outright stated that the Elder Dragons become more powerful through their minions. That’s the main concept behind the Mouth (being the most influencial in this aspect). Therefore, the death and prevention of creating more minions makes Zhaitan himself weaker.
4) Except the power there was divine and thus not Zhaitan. So they were food sources to him – as Zhaitan (if not other Elder Dragons) consume magic to feed. Therefore, taking those would make him weaker since he’s not absorbing their magic anymore.
5) Not exactly. The Dragonbrand was a proactive creation – Kralkatorrik corrupted the land intentionally as he flew south. The corruption of Orr is similar, true, but it’s not “just by his mere existence” otherwise it would have been corrupted while he slumbered (same with the other ED). However, as stated above: removing or reducing the Elder Dragons’ corruption is said a multitude of times throughout the later storyline, to weaken the respective Elder Dragon since they no longer feed off of said corrupted things.Don’t get me wrong – I’m not saying it’s underwhelming. I’m merely saying that Zhaitan did not have the power he did before confronting him.
2-3 yes they make him weaker yet he was powerful enough to raise the land and it’s inhabitants alone
4- the temples weren’t food sources, he corrupted them as defence (said by the npcs when you finish the meta event = they make those asuran artifacts to contain his corruption)
5- guess that’s true the corruption is more passive but i don’t see how it will weaken him (also since he was the source of the corruption in orr, how did the cleansing work while he was alive?)
wtb 1min CGI trailer for the fight and have the entire dungeon just be guarding the ship
“Thing about the boss battle is that he’s been:
1) Starved (killed one of two Mouth of Zhaitan)
2) Partially blinded (killed a few Eyes of Zhaitan)
3) Had his largest minion “processing plants” (so to speak) ruined (Ossuary of the Unquiet Dead/that bone ship option)
4) Had the five greatest power sources taken from him (temple meta events)
5) And had the corruption of the land removed (Source of Orr)”
1) even if he was starved he spent nearly 10 000 years sleeping (if they went to sleep around the extinction of the lupicus) oh and we killed 2 mouths – one in Malchor’s Leap storyline and one in the arah fight
2) the eyes serve so he can see without having to stomp around the entire continent all the time he wants to check something, pretty sure the 10 little heads in place of his jaw can see
3)the boss fight is about him not his minions
4)he was “wasting” power on them to use as defence against the pact, in any case that would make him stronger as he is no longer spending energy to maintain them
5)the corruption is like the dragonbrand, it’s there by his mere existance
Still not valid enough to explain his epic phail in the dungeon, he raised the entire orrian peninsula just by waking up after “starving” for thousands of years. Was expecting more magic from him tho, not crashing himself like an ettin into the ship (and not even aiming at the center which would destroy it in an instant) they should have made the entire fight yet another concept art cinematic like the intro with 20-30 airships on him, charr siege machines on the ground and etc….can’t possibly make the fight as massive and grand ingame to live up to the hype on his powers..
PS: i know it’s an old post but still (couldn’t quote too)
Why do people think we’ll go to cantha first (or elona).Cantha is xenophobic and pretty much fine, elona is about 95% undead, no reason to go there (maybe besides stopping joko).
As far as i remember it was something along the lines of the dragons wanting to mindlessly consume everything and just changing it in the process (ice minions on jormag, crystal for kral, etc), not exactly sure about the perfection part..
1st: How is Kralkatorrik symbolizing perfection ?
2nd:The dragon in the dream is how the dream represents zhaitan
3rd:The dream is made by the pale tree, if there was anything living in there besides the sylvari she would know it
4th:The nightmare court are just free willed sylvari who don’t believe in the tablet of ventari (much like atheists) but since they had to make them an enemy they dumbed them down to a bunch of anarchist sadists, nothing corrupted about them.
@ Haishao.6851 “There should be achievement specifically tied to dungeons rewarding people who do all paths of a dungeon.” There already is, open H>achievements>explorer> all dungeons x/4(5 in arah) paths completed.
Nearly everybody was doing path 2 because it was fast and easy, we always had the option of doing 1 and 3, it goes to show that people didn’t want harder content so why go against the majority of the players? The real problem is still here: the repetitive grind.
Instead of making the rewards better you made this require way more effort for the same reward, bad solution (if it even counts as one).
And me and few of other guild mates couldn’t find party for anything else. This is a relief.
Also I could care less about PUGs, when it’s ruining guild runs.
If you don’t want a challenge and you lack skill, then think about playing something easier.Jeez all these whiners ruining one game after another.
So you’re saying that ALL of your guildies are less than 5 people then.If you don’t want pugs don’t join em, do your guild runs with yourkittenguild on the harder paths, we had ONE easy path and they removed it,since all the chat recruits were going this route it shows how many people want it easy, you are the minority here.

Did you even test this fix yourself? I would love to see a video of the dev’s completing this part of CoF without suicide training.. If someone has completed this by actually killing the mobs please say so, I’d love to see just how many can pull it off as it’s “intended”
I just pugged CoF without suicide training, so please stop acting like because you can’t do it it’s impossible. After having done CoF (among others, I’m not some professional player but I have plenty of prior ‘raiding’ background and I’ve done most paths of explorables in this game working towards the dungeon master achievement) pretty extensively with a ‘best’ run of around 12 minutes, I wanted to experience the changes so started looking for a group. My experience/comments from the perspective of a dagger/dagger shadow arts treed thief:
Until the lava field portion the place feels completely unchanged, so I’ll start there…
- Escort Magg across the lava fields
I honestly don’t have any issues with the ‘intended’ changes — in practice, however, Magg’s AI makes him feel really stupid, as he repeatedly walked into the lava or just aggroed random mobs, causing whoever he was “following” to have to run forward/back, forward/back to get him to advance properly. Outside of that, I’m fine with the change. My original thought was that the proper way to do it would be to have one person with a fire extinguisher then everyone else killing mobs as we escorted magg along, but we honestly just couldn’t get him to follow us well enough for this strategy to work. If it’s at all possible, I personally think that would make the encounter a bit more engaging and feel more fluid. No expectations though!
- Protect Magg while he sets the bomb
I’m honestly not sure where all the whining is coming from here. I have run some very high dps groups, and I have never thought the proper way to do this was to actually kill all of the mobs, I’ve always assumed that the intention was to kill high dps output/low HP mobs (stalkers and potentially shadowblades come to mind) and ignore shadowlords and just properly avoid their damage, while interrupting the flamethrower cast on the other mob. As I said, I am specced into shadow arts pretty heavily so I’ve historically just ran into packs cloak and daggering to blind everything and keep mobs at bay.
- Baelfire Encounter
Since I’m capable of looking at the ground, seeing a big red circle, and moving out of it, I noticed absolutely no changes to this encounter. Not to sound (too)condescending, but perhaps if people are dying to this, they should look into an eye exam.
video or wannabe pro.
I just want to say, that I love you Robert for what you did.
Everyone complains about difficulty, but when devs lower it, the new type of whine appears. That the game is for small kids now, that it’s too easy, that it used to be better. This happened in awful lot of older MMOs and people are still the same.
I thank you for this, because that speed run was ruining the dungeon runs for whole guilds. People were there all the time and we couldn’t form a group for anything else.
You saved my evenings with GW2.
Once again thanks. <3
oh please, ruined the dungeon for guilds ? If all you wannabe “pros” and"looking for a challange hurr durr" weren’t trying to look cool here you would have only done path 1 and 3 and leave 2 for the pugs…jeez it’s 1 path out of 3 lvl 80 dungeons which means 1/16 is easy (CM doesn’t count that thing is for 45 and the gear is for 70 people used it to lvl up).
as Robert said (and somehow me not being able to quote)
“I took away their super profitable low risk, fast, token grind. "Notice the keyword here: grind, so in reallity they didn’t fix anything just made the timer longer, the lava field near-impossible (he rushes in the magma directly after being ressurected and when it’s out he attacks mobs). Now that would all be good if something was done to the rewards (not the silver the tokens).I don’t see how you are expecting us to have “fun” doing a 1-5hr dungeon for 25 tokens when it takes 69 runs to get the armor. No need to make it a 10min dungeon , make it 5 hrs if you have to but give real rewards because most people can’t spare all that time especially if they work/have school.
1 easy path and 2 hard with different reward quantities. Casuals and pugs get to spend a bit more time but STILL get the armor they want while the wannabe “pros” can still bash their head against the wall for double the reward and twice the effort. It’s kinda pathetic to deny people content just because you have those extra 5-6 hours per day and sat for 2 months infront of database before release untill you know everything possible in the game.If people want a challange they can have it, but give the rest a chance too.
@ Lctl: i wasn’t asking about GHOSTS in Orr, i meant that the foefire explains why one there are no charr (btw judging from the AC intro it looks like that explosion could have killed all life in it’s aoe range and it also incinerated the humans but trapped their ghosts).
As for the risen, i’m pretty sure he rose more than half of them unintentionally (hence why they aren’t all soldiers and they even farm/mine which they wouldn’t need). Also you mean he wouldn’t consider the same “savages” that managed to wreck the most powerful human nation and it’s “super powered human magical army” strong enough?Keep in mind that the risen still stay…risen after we kill him in the personal story, so he wouldn’t have had to chose.
BTW: there were no mursaat in Orr it got sunken by the king’s advisor who used ancient scrolls under the city to cast the cataclysm (influenced by abaddon but some people think the scrolls are related to zhaitan).
They do have problems with the DSD (that’s why one of the largos-related events is helping a “master” largos train his apprentice to survive and fight since their home has become way too dangerous and the waters “darkened”)Also does anybody mind linking to a source that says the DSD is in cantha ?The current setting for it in the Movement of the World pretty much makes it sound like we won’t go there since the humans banished all other races and will certainly not want help (or we could have parts of the storyline to try and convince the emperor to lend a hand with the elder dragons because they will eventually get to cantha too).Same goes for Elona – the impression is that 100% of it is under the rule of Palawa who is expanding north to Orr and fighting zhaitan’s forces, seems like a lost cause to even go there.
You most likely got that impression because gw1 had only the human side of the story. The explanation for orr and kryta is : humans took their land, the charr take it back and have their vengeance on kryta and orr(the same way the ebon vanguard in gw:en attack the blood legion homelands’ territory). If not for the treaty all human resources would still be wasted at ebonhawke which at the end the charr used to test their war machines (implying they weren’t even serious about it) and even if they won the battle there what would they do? Go back to the ruins of ascalon and get slaughtered by the mad spirits? And about Bonfaaz – he is revered as a hero because the searing he caused broke the wall to their original homeland and then Rurik kills him…
As for the searing being forgotten: does anybody else praise the mursaat for stopping the charr invasion in kryta? No.Does anybody still care about the cataclysm? No.The explanation for the second one can be used for ascalon too: it got “overlapped” by a bigger event (the foefire which is bad for all races since the ghost don’t make a differance).
Orr was a human area when it sank, while Zhaitan keeps building up his army with whatever he can get, his original force consists of a whole nation of undead humans.
I understand why there are asura/norn on some of the shores (mainly the straits) but don’t forget that the reason why it sank was because the charr forces had nearly conquered the nation so the vizier cast the spell to sink it (same deal with the foefire but at least that has an explanation why there aren’t charr ghosts).Since some of the undead continue their daily lives (as if stuck in time) it would be cool seeing the 2 races fighting in different areas.
As someone who worked extremely hard on one of the Orrian maps, I can tell you that DusK has the most accurate comment.
From a lore perspective, the risen continent was once a living nation full of all sorts sorts of people and creatures. Now corrupted by the undead dragon, most of them walk the land as monsters. But you’ll still see a lot of the sentient inhabitants mindlessly continuing on the tasks they performed in their old lives. Some of them farm and mine, others lie around and weep in agony.
The coral soldiers, on the other hand, are more direct servants of the elder dragon. They take a more active role in defending the continent, so you should see them patrolling, standing guard, attacking players, etc.
Hmm since you worked on the zone could you explain to us why the orrians had an obsession for circular structures? Or was it just so the area has a more “alien” look (which it certainly did) ?
And what’s up with the lack of undead charr in the zone? In the prophecies manuscrip it says that the charr even reached the gates of Arah yet i only found some in the Straits of Devastation along with the random undead asura and norn.
