Looked for the error code, which has previously happened a few months back for other people, apparently.

I’m thinking bunker/disruptive support. Medics feedback and “heal an Aoe on shatter” sounds really amazing.

I’m kind of uncomfortable swapping weapons, though. I’m familiar with Staff, but I don’t like running it without a chaos trait line. As for the focus, I use it for the pulls, too, not just the reflect.

Ooh, and it makes a few classes whiff their downed attacks.

Anyway, I’m also posting from a phone here. Just a note that I don’t feel like running condition in Chrono- that feels like a job for standard Mesmer, to me.

^TC is new to GW2 in general, let’s not bring up Elite specs that require level 80 just yet, especially since he’s talking open world

Speaking as someone who has both ranger and mesmer as his most-played… you kinda messed yourself up starting off with a ranger, who by and large are the easiest class for beginners. Mesmers are good at teaching you the importance of ability rotations, how EXTREMELY important timing dodges are, and other things that.. come with time, I guess.

I’m not exactly sure what level you unlock weapon swaps, but for mesmers (and really, any class that has access to them) you want your two weapons to have different utility. For instance, my mesmer runs a sword/focus build for close combat and a staff build for mobility, condition application, and area support.

Mesmer really shines when they start getting their utilities and more shatter abilities open. They are, I will concede, a very slow class to start.

EDIT – Going off Mastamaker in front of me – yes, that’s also something important to note. Most of your damage is going to come from Phantasms, no matter what weapon you’re using. Main-hand sword’s second ability is your biggest non-phantasm damage dealer.

tl;dr: They’re slow and frail at early levels, but they have mega damage and some really mean tricks later.

I can’t claim to be very good at PvP (in fact, I’d probably be a lot better off when I start getting my computer upgraded.) More tellingly, my first level 80 was a ranger, though I’ve been fiddling with a Mesmer a whole lot more.

However, here’s what I’m running, and why I’m running it. Please, do tell me what I should fix/why I shouldn’t run it.

Weapons: Scepter/Shield <-> Sword/Focus
Sigils: 60% to remove condition on hit, +30% stun duration <-> +20% vuln duration, 50% inflict vulnerability.
Rune/Amulet: Rune of the Guardian, Soldier’s Amulet

Build lines: EDIT: Clarifying, because the wiki has them apparently out of order.
Illusions: Compounding Power, Phantasmal Haste, Master of Fragmentation.
Inspiration: Persisting Images, Warden’s Feedback, Mental Defense
Chronomancer: Delayed Reactions, Illusionary Reversion, Chronophantasma.

6-0 abilities: Well of Eternity, Mirror Image, Signet of Domination, Well of Precognition, Gravity Well.

What do I specifically do?
If I waltz into a fight, I try to get one illusion off, start casting Gravity Well in the fight, and then pop my Continuum Shift mid-cast so it will reset that cooldown. If I somehow have a second illusion out due to blocking/evading, I’ll pop another shatter before the Rift hits. If someone is down, I will attempt a Well of Precognition over them to revive/execute them (depending on team.) Lastly, if someone is trying to snipe from the outskirts like I usually do, I’ll throw up a Focus ability to reflect (and occasionally pop it for disruptions.)

Stalling rotation:
Sword 2. Mirror Image -> F4. F3. Swap. Shield 4. Scepter 2. Shield 4. Well of Precog/Dodge as appropriate. Focus 4 pulls if needs be.

Damage rotation:
Scepter 3. Scepter 1s until close. Shield 5. Swap. Focus 5. Sword 3, Sword 3. Sword 2. Shatters whenever I remember/they’re off cooldown. Signet of Domination whenever on a really annoying target.

My biggest issues right now: If I come against something 1v1, I’m probably not winning it (unless they’re an ele) though I can stall for time very easily. What gives me the most problems right now:
- Reapers in general. I can’t stall long enough to get them out of Death Shroud.
- Burn/Trap Guardians – what damage I can put out usually drowns in their buffs if they do their rotations right.
- Faceroll thieves/daredevils, but I’ve always had a problem with those. At least they tend to drop dead if they get caught in Gravity Well.
- In-your-face warriors when Signet of Domination is down.

So can anyone give me some general tips, or things to swap to? I really like my weapon setup as-is, but I wouldn’t be averse to some build-shuffling.

My recommendation: don’t.

So I don’t have to run into one of them EVERY GAME.

I don’t know about you guys, but I will use these traps to troll everybody in the EB JP. Fountains can’t save you now!

You seem to have missed the part of the update where the EB JP is now its own map.

Instead, I’m thinking of dropping one of the supply traps… directly onto a supply camp in a contested zone or not-yet-drained tower. Nuke the supply of the people running with the organized groups and make them swipe up supply the organized group desperately needs.

Warriors, complaining about banners?

Man, don’t ever roll a ranger. You might have a heart attack from how bad Spirits are in comparison.

Counterpoint: I LOVE banners. They provide Blast Finishers by merely picking them up and re-planting them. This translates into team Area Might or Area Healing for me, specifically, as the aforementioned maligned Spirit ranger.

This said, I’ve been trying them out lately. I miss the explode on death trait, but the 70% chance to proc is very nice nowadays.

Hey, HoD, I know you have your decent players. Quite a few of them, in fact.

So could you potentially call off the jerks that are somehow getting siege to appear on walls? We just took Greenlake in our own border and saw levitating flame rams and arrow carts.

Oh, and stop being those guys that use fifty arrow carts from impossible (one could even claim bogus) angles at the slightest provocation. Love and kisses!

I love spirits, but they’re pretty outclassed, as I’m sure most of us know.

So, if I were to change them without completely overshadowing other class utilities, I propose one of the following three changes:

1.) “Double spirit health” and “activate on death” trait merged, changing the “active ability radius increased” portion of the latter trait to a side effect of “Spirits Unbound” instead.

2.) Allies affected by the auras provided by spirits have additional minor bonuses to stats (and I think these numbers are reasonable, based on the ever-present comparison to warrior banners, which will have superior stats:)
Sun Spirit: 50 precision/50 condition damage
Stone Spirit: 50 toughness/50 healing power
Storm Spirit: 50 power/5% movement speed
Frost Spirit: 50 vitality/5% critical damage

3.) Active abilities of Spirits provide a lasting combo field for two seconds beyond the duration of the ability:
Sun Spirit: Light field
Frost Spirit: Ice field
Storm Spirit: Lightning field (go away, monopolizing Elementalists)
Stone Spirit: Earth field – a new field type (also available to Elementalists and anyone utilizing a sigil of Geomancy) which causes:
– Bleeding (Causes a 2s bleedstack – Projectile finisher)
– Crippling Bolts (Whirl Finisher)
– Area Protection (Blast Finisher)
– Protection (Leap Finisher)

I liked running spirits a lot too before people started kicking me out of groups for doing it (despite me keeping Fury, Might, and Swiftness on basically 100% uptime and Protection about half the time.)

What I don’t like, though, is that I have to pick the “improved chance” thing for them to be remotely worthwhile. I preferred my “spirits explode on death” thing, and with having them move, I’m either torn between having my spirits be ineffectual at buffing or status-bombing.

I was kind of hoping the base proc chance would improve, not the traited one. The nontraited one itself needs to shoot up some, and traited should be 100%. After all, warrior banners do their job better in almost every way.

Hey, Dathaul, as the other vocal resident FC Ranger, from one to another: what pets do you run? Alice keeps giving me crap because I’m not that big a fan of dogs and instead run a Boar (for Gunk/Ethereal fields) and Reef Drake (for Confusion in big fights + Blast finisher.)

Really, I only swap in dogs when I am roaming (and then go Hyena for double knockdown or Wolf for panic F2 when downed)

I wonder if FC will ever get the mass influx that has screwed us over at least three times now. It happened for Kaineng, it happened for Devona’s Rest, it happened for Sorrow’s Furnace (and yet we were stuck with them for frigging forever…)

And now GoM can field such numbers as to completely obliterate our keep while the Agg-roll blared the batsignal (and left Bay undefended on their own BL) to wipe our minor “we want one tower and maybe a camp” group.

Agg, we know you’re tools, but why so much hate? Can’t you go green-murdering instead of green with envy for once?

No, there’s actually some tools (probably from Agg, if I had to wager) that hop on our server solely to waste siege and supply.

Obligatory hur hur T8 topic, but really, anyone who’s stagnated in their color and has problems taking a solitary friggin tower completely across the map because the green fungus of Sorrow’s Furnace swarms over their entire map and won’t go away from intensive scrubbing ARGH.

No photos tonight, but I was just part of that night crew trying our dangedest to hold Hero’s for a while. I think we ticked off an ICE commander because we got zerged under ten minutes later trying to hold an itty bitty supply camp.

Yes! Small group or not we finally have more people instead of less on Ferg! And just in time, too, because… well… after we turned our border back Red, SF’s swarm began to happen. So have a score update along with my appropriately dead body.

EDIT: and of course, the posted image contains the only scores that MATTER.

Heck, I’d be satisfied with this ultimately stale matchup if the borderland colors were randomized each matchup and not just put based upon your world’s ranking.

Seriously, FC was blue for over a month and a half before people stopped caring and we dropped to red. My Gifts of Exploration aren’t going to explore themselves, but I’ll be kittened if I’m going to abandon my home world for two kitteny vistas in Sorrow’s Furnace (and I’d sooner take poison than run with the small group that keeps abusing mesmer Portals to clip into walls then proceeds to die in the main rooms of fortified keeps, towers, etc. Which, speaking of which, I wish there was an abuse report option for that.)

FC: I really don’t like to say this, but did a lot of your commanders leave or take a break? There doesn’t appear to be much cohesion at all, except for once in a great while.

I would say that’s pretty close to the reality of the situation over in FC. Ferg is, in my opinion, pretty much scraping the bottom of the barrel for moral. Peak time last night there was barely anybody running around in our BL, let alone commanders. I think it bottomed out when we had ET running up one side of our BL and SF on the other and we didn’t have enough bodies to really put a stake in either zerg. Lot of ‘kitten it, I quit’, in that few hours.

Basically, this.

I haven’t been on Wuvwuv in the two weeks since I updated the week of 2/1’s matchup. My (small, IRL friends) guild has seen some more activity since when, but they popped in, saw the map laid out in green, and promptly yelled “kitten it” into our voice chat. And then we ran some dungeons for our monthlies.

I’m still patiently waiting to be on something that isn’t a blue borderland. I would so, SO love to have my 100% map completion finished. Kudzu isn’t going to assemble itself.

And edit for clarification: I’m not a commander. I’m just a vocal minority speaking for the nonvocal majority. Maybe. I don’t know. I have other problems, namely my primary class’s role in other modes, not just WvW;

OH, and I’m also levelling up some alts. And by levelling I mean inciting small dance parties in newbie zones.

WELLP. When the new rankings hit… we will probably still be on blue borderlands.

Far be it for me to be the one to say this, but let’s keep it mostly clean. And brownie points for bowing (instead of short/longbowing) in Jumping Puzzles!

Really, it’s not the Zerging that I’m most miffed about (though that’s annoying) as it is that, in my past hour and a half on SF’s borderlands (I hoped beyond hope to get the garrison back, and it was close, but wham, the lawnmower rolled through and murdered us after we hit the inner gate the second time.)

What annoys me more is that I saw a whopping ONE Engineer or Necromancer throughout these fights. Guardians spamming full heals galore, sure. Elementalists meteoring places? Why not. Mesmers shattering for 20k in the face? Yeah, those too.

Heck, I would’ve even been happy to run into a thief tonight, not so many bloody guardians/mesmers/eles (and warriors too, but I can at least handle their spam approach.)

Like the matchup, but I really wish the colors could change without our rankings moving.

Well that would make a fair amount of sense then. Truth be told, I was expecting them to corpse-dance when I got taken down by a Necro, but I received a bow instead. That was pleasant.

Heyyy, I was in on that SF Borderlands keep-taking-and-holding on Monday night! I was mostly escorting pack dolyaks… had a giggle IRL when myself and another escort I got jumped by two Mesmers and a thief that must’ve been low levelled, as I evaded most of their things and actually chased off the thief while the mesmers died.

But yeah. There seem to be a lot of guilds with south American names in Sorrow’s Furnace the past two days >_>;

I wonder if they’ll ever let us Ferg’s not be on the blue borderlands. Daddy wants his 100% map completion and I don’t think we’ll ever be able to take Longview or the Garrisons

This is quite possibly the most fun I’ve had in a WvW matchup ever.

I actually have queue times on occasion! I got to go somewhere other than FC Borderlands and not get slaughtered! PEOPLE ACTUALLY BUILD AND ASSIST WITH SIEGE!
