HDMI Interlacing on Mac

Hello,

I recently purchased a Mac Mini and have it hooked up to an Asus hd monitor via hdmi. I’ve noticed that using the hdmi connection seems to be interlacing in full screen mode of playing several games, including GW2. If I take any of these games out of full screen mode, and still play them under the 1920×1080 resolution in windowed mode, it removes the interlacing and everything is crystal clear. I’ve tested this in World of Warcraft and it seems to correct appropriately there, meaning I can play in full screen mode at a resolution of 1920×1080 with no interlacing.

I’ve heard mixed responses to this that it is an issue with Macs and hdmi connections, but have also heard that this is to be resolved by the game client.

Any thoughts, experiences or resolutions with this? Kind of defeats the beauty of the graphic artistry having to play it in pixelated 1600×1200 full screen. Windowed mode isn’t too bad, but is a little distracting with background folders and the desktop interface.

Maybe this is something to add the list for the rumored Mac native client?

Anyone else playing on the 2013 Mac Mini?

Hi All,

I’m considering buying a brand new 2013 Mac Mini, using the Intel HD 4000 card, and was curious what gameplay is like? What settings are you currently running the game at if so? I currently have a 2009 27" iMac, that just barely runs the game Mac side, and jumps a slight bit on Bootcamp. I’m not looking to max out everything, as I know the Intel hd 4000 isn’t as powerful a card as others, but would be nice to play at a steady 30fps on low to mid settings. Currently get between 12-25, so I suppose any upgrade at this point is really an improvement.

Thanks in advance.

Technically your 2009 iMac should run the game better than I would expect the mac mini to. The intel graphics cards are crippling for trying to play GW2. Of course I don’t have one so I can’t say for certain what the performance would be like, but I’m quite sure it would be worse than your iMac. With the iMac if you lower the resolution by one option you should actually get pretty decent FPS.

Thanks for the response. I do indeed getter much better fps taking the res down to 1600×1000. I suppose I should just bite the bullet and pay for an iMac or slightly older refurbed MacBook Pro.

Does Your Class/Role Reflect Your Personality

I agree with your thoughts on character and class choices reflecting an inner part of ourselves, particularly when we’re not focused on making those choices consciously. However I played a Mesmer religiously in GW1 and so it was a given I’d do the same in GW2. Why I did so in GW1 was simple, there was no other game that had a profession/class like it and I was drawn. In fact, I bought GW with the sole purpose to play a Mesmer. I loved how the power behind the class wasn’t all about brute force and pure damage, but rather it was a subtle and gradual control and breakdown of your opponent. Oh and of course because of all their cool glowy pink/purple spell effects and stylish armor.

Gamebreaking client crashes

I can confirm that I’m also experiencing these hard random crashes. Presently, this is one of two major issues affecting gameplay for me. These crashes you’re mentioning don’t bring me to my desktop however, it locks up my entire computer to the point where a forced power down of my system has to happen. I’ve attempted to use force quit commands via the keyboard, but when I say it locks up my computer I’m talking total freeze off all functions. As you mentioned this happens randomly and frequently and I cannot attribute it to any specific action on the many times it’s occurred.

The second issue is the game disconnects my Internet. Randomly and frequently I might add. In this case it crashes to my desktop after a short wait revealing a timeout error. I’ve tested this multiple times and my Internet connection is rock solid 100% of the time while not playing GW2. I’ve actually sat and watched as I see the game freeze up, then turn to watch my modem disconnect within seconds of the freeze.

Both of these issues occur every single time I run the game, no matter what time of day.

One thing to note here is that I’ve played the Mac beta since release, but I do also have the game installed via Bootcamp with Windows. The hard freeze ups do NOT occur on Windows, but both sides, while playing the game cut my Internet connection.

I can only speculate this was introduced with a recent patch as I’ve been playing since release and have not experienced any issues up until very recently.

Guild wars is disconnecting my internet?

I’m going to add myself to this list. Pretty much the exact same scenario that the op outlined. I know the poster above me mentioned it does not happen for them on Mac side, but I have GW2 installed via Bootcamp on Windows and on Mac side. Causes my Internet to disconnect on both sides. I’ve tested this multiple times and my Internet never disconnects at any other time. It only occurs during GW2 play. I wish I could be more specific, but there is no exact cause for the disconnects, it’s seemingly random. This issue seems to have cropped up from a recent update, as I’ve been playing since launch, and this only started happening over the last 2-3 weeks.
