Its a pretty gnarly performance drop in my opinion. Hopefully it will be adressed quicky.

Same thing happens with Environment details like rocks on cave floors (skrittsburg), bushes, debri, etc. I’ve noticed it since launch. Haven’t seen it so bad on Mobs though. Its ruins any chance at beauty this game has when you see it :*(

Thats what i thought. I had really looked forward to the new touches in AC. But after spending some tax money to upgrade my computer, then seeing this happen… well lets just say i feel like uninstalling this game. 15 FPS in a dungeon on a 3570K is pretty unacceptable…

AC Path 1 FPS issues.

JERRIX.5390

This is not referring to any previous performance issues in AC. This is specifically associated with the “new” dungeon and some HORRID fps issues during events. Specifically the Graveling Army while defending Hodgins. The FPS will tank to 10-15 fps on a core i5 3570k looking towards the middle of the room. Granted the performance has never been great, but when i have peopel in VOIP getting HALF of what i am because they dont have a brand new processor, there is an issue. I never noticed this intense of a drop before the patch changes. I also have not attempted to do other paths yet, but i wouldn’t be suprised if this is a problem in other paths as well.
Anyone else experienced this?

Try this, FlameThrower Engis….
Turn Auto Target off via Options Menu.
DO NOT target a single mob when they are grouped up, just run in spamming 1
You won’t miss…

Now Target something and run around.
You are bound to miss.
This is a little backwards, yes? Its my only real gripe with the FT.. That and siege damage/misses.

Currently 10/30/0/30/0 Alch/Rifle/FTer, and its the most fun since nades got nerfed.

saw your post in the other thread, now i see part of what was holding your 965 back….that foxconn board…..

but yeah the intel is going to smoke that setup….

tip: never buy foxconn motherboards for an enthusist build, their bios supports pathetic, also never buy MSI for and AMD build….(duno about their intel stuff but their amd stuff, sucks, very unreliable…. and weird perf issues)

and yes as you said, they clearly do expect people to get a 3570k or 3770k(or better) and overclock to at least 4.5ghz…..if they didnt the game would run better then it does.

Ya i know that board was terrible. That machine was originally a store-bought HP Elite, thats why the board remained the same forever.

Yes, another low FPS (WvW) thread...

I tried my best to defend AMD performance in games for the past few years. When Skyrim came out i had a Phenom II x4 925 @ 2.8ghz, and didnt think that was a bad deal. Well, Skyrim played like crap, moved to the 965, oced to 4.0ghz and was happy. then a few more games came out and i was presented with the same problems. bad performance, poor utilization. I don’t know enough about CPU architecture to blame it on any one thing, i just know that since i have upgrade to an i5 3570k OC 4.2ghz stock voltage, EVERYTHING has improved. I would say that frame rates are 100% improved. An example, in areas i was getting 15 FPS, i am now getting 30, if i was getting 25-30, i know receive close to a solid 60.

Sad facts

Does anet really expect everyone to have a 3770k oc to 4.5ghz in order to play WvW?

Yup. Proof is in the pudding… I recently spent some tax money on a system upgrade.
I was using:
HP Foxconn Aloe Mobo
AMD Phenom II x4 965 @ 4.0ghz
8gb DDR2
GTX 580 1.5gb OEM
It was fine as long as nothing was happening. Viewing a pve dungeon battle would drop the FPS to about 30-45, and 15-20 in WvW zergs, as well as swinging the camera with drops of 10-15 from 60. The FPS swings were ridiculous.

Upgraded to:
MSI z77a-G45 bios v2.9 (latest)
i5 3570k @ 4.2ghz, stock voltage
16 GB Kingston DDR3 @ 1600mhz
Same GTX 580 1.5gb
Night and Day….
With adaptive Vsync, gameplay is smooth, with seldom drops into the mid 50s during PVE battles. Large crowds still reduce it down to 30-45 in PvP and PvE (dragons). But i have not seen the 20s or 15s since switching even in WvWvW zergs.

Still love AMD for the price/performance, but it seems over the years i have graduate dto Enthusiast level and desired a better gaming processor. I have not been disappointed with my i5, especially in older single thread games (NWN2), performance is phenomenal.

I will say this, even with the i5, which handles everything i throw at it at high/max settings, GW2 does not perform as well as all my other games now. So there is still some kinks they need to work out.

I know the upgrade option is far from being available to everyone playing, so it would be nice to see a little good news on this topic from ANet.

Please oh, please fix this game!

Its gunna sound like im bashing AMD again but JERRIX ..its your cpu :P I bet your 580 sits there at 50% usuage most the time right ?

And omg. .the 486 ..i remember those :d .. i ran a 486/66 then a 486/100 back in the day ..used ot play C&C on it and Wolfenstien ..and DOOM and such hehe.

It does sit at around 50%, but what is strange is, at Supersample, the usage hangs out at about 80-99% with little framerate drop. So i’m sorry, I highly doubt it all comes down to an AMD cpu. I can max out my vid card if i want, but whats the point if the Minimum FPS doesn’t change much?? Its bottlenecking the game, not my GPU.

Oh well, I have no desire to buy an Intel. Planetside 2 sucks kittens without an Intel too. If this is the way games are going, I’m done building computers. Some of us actually don’t have $2000 to burn on a system…. It’s quite disappointing that instead of make programs run smarter on CPUs, they just go for the brute forcing of single threads.

AO did little to improve visual fidelity in this game for me anyway. Its more noticeable in games like Skyrim and The Witcher 2. In my game, its faint and the performance drop isnt worth it. But ya, I would recommend against using it at this point.

FPS drop opening FRIENDS window

JERRIX.5390

It isn’t a problem only experienced by 1% of the population, thats ridiculous.
I experience this when i open the Guild and Friends window. My guild is rather large, and that can kill FPS with the roster open. Perhaps its another side effect of bad SINGLE THREAD performance (also the reason WvWvW sucks for most people, and major cities)
I won’t stress out to fix it, as there are bigger fish to fry, LIKE WVWVW and CITIES. But i do know what you are referring to, and I can reproduce the problem easily.

JERRIX.5390

I’ve always noticed this, especially on my Engineer when lobbing grenades. its fine unless the particles take up the majority of my screen space, then it lowers my FPS by about 10-20 while the particles are displayed. I have a gtx 580, Phenom II x4 965 BE @ 4.0ghz, 8 gb ram, and game is on a seperate HDD then windows. It probably has to do with how particles are drawn, and maybe transparency? like the poor CPU utilization, i just figured it was part of how the game engine worked and had to look past it.

Really? I sure can’t tell it.. Log out of your game and look at the world map and see all the high and full servers. Just about every server is either high pop or full.. I think you got your info wrong or you are wondering around with blinders on. I see lots of players in starting areas and many other areas.. Maybe you are playing at the wrong times. This game isn’t going down hill.

Server population means nothing. I play on a “Full” server and the only place with a living soul is Lion’s Arch and Orr. (bots in Orr and people who want to spam the first boss for cash – that’s all)

I have to disagree.. Server population means everything.. If the game was going down hill the populations would be low if players were leaving.

You still aren’t understanding. The server can be full of people doing Fractals and hanging out in LA, and the world will still be EMPTY. Thats the problem. The WORLD is empty, not the server. There’s stuff to do out there too, ya know.

Even getting groups for Dungeons and Fractals is rough if you aren’t on level 10 already.

I’ve noticed that the amount of players on higher maps have decreased to the point that anywhere from 50%-90% of points on the maps are constantly contested making it impossible in many cases for a solo player to complete maps. It’s gotten to a point that you are lucky to find 2 players in a group.

Basically since the new content, most higher level players don’t even bother with regular maps anymore. Players are looking at it this way, why do maps with poor drops when you can do other things that net you better items.

Needless to say, higher level maps from 70-80 need to have new content and and better drops added to bring players back to them.

As it stands now, this game is going down hill since newer player that want to complete maps and other things can’t, due to the lack of players to aid in certain areas. It’s going to get to the point where people are just going to give up, and when (not if) that happens, this game will die.

I’m not saying this because I’m low level, on the contrary, I have 3 characters all at level 80 and I have 100% map completion. I just see this as a growing problem that needs to be addressed. I like the game, but I see the player base dropping in these areas everyday.

Zone population, not Server Population. Kthnxbye.

And I agree with the OP, I’ve been trying to level an alt, check out zones i didn’t hit with my other character. World is dead, cannot complete group (champion) events on my own with respawn rates. Its very discouraging.

Hello Guild Wars 2 community!

Here are my specs:
HP Aloe RS880 Mobo no bios updates available
AMD Phenom II x4 965 BE @ 3.9ghz
8GB DDR Ram
GTX 580 OEM 1.5GB drivers 306.02beta
LG 24" LED @ 1920×1080p
_SoundBlaster Recon 3D Fatl1ty Series PCIE latest driver update

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I am absolutely enamored with this game, but I have been spotting a few things that I’m sure could be improved to make the experience even more amazing!

Environment Props Appear and Disappear
This can be pretty distracting but it isn’t game-breaking at all. Certain terrain elements like Rock Piles or Plants will disappear if the camera is moved to certain angles. Very noticeable on rocks in Skrittsburg. I’ve attached screenshots showing the difference simply by moving the camera, not the character. I observe this no matter what the Environment Setting is set to.

Audio Static / Stuttering
I am at a loss here. This is irritating me enough as to create this post I have a $150 Sound card with its own cpu on it and no matter the sound quality or Mix Buffer size settings, in large fights or other high-action areas I will undoubtedly suffer from skills, voices and effects gaining static, stuttering, cutting out early/turning on late or all together bad quality. As mentioned, I have tried adjusting the Audio Sliders, as well as making sure my Sound Device is set to my speakers, not just ‘default’.

Oh, and Dodge is finicky I just wanted to bring these to your attention.

EDIT As seen in the Options SS my FPS is locked at 50 by MSI, helps reduce the all over the place FPS for a more solid experience for me. That’s purely my opinion, however. Hopefully when they get some software patches out I won’t need to do this anymore.
