I find these runes really useful for vanilla guard and DH in general, due to it gives power + condi dmg + 25 move speed, way better than traveler runes, and would solve the problem of mobility for offensive guardian builds. I think it is the best choice for this class, but its only available in pvp

Shield 5 fails

I am maining sword shield lately and sometimes I try to knocback enemies with shield 5 through ToF and the knocback happens, but the enemy doesnt take any damage. I want you to test this because it happens several times to me and it is kinda frustrating.

I think the old scepter/hammer build can be nice now. In the past it was meta for a while with medis, and I think with the trap procession of blades can be stronger now. You can do a combo not easy to avoid I have always used that is: scepter 3 + JI (for a legit inmobilice) + scepter 2 + hammer 5 + procession of blades. Then you can hammer 2 or whatever you want.

I dont like what they have done with scepter. It is a weapon I have mained since forever and I hoped a good buff whej they talked about making smite a symbol, but it is way weaker than before. With the old smite I could almost kill a wvw mob; with the new scepter 2 I dont get more than 35% of his hp, its horrible. So now the only reliable dmg of scepter comes from autoattacks, just wow.

Half the Guardian skills and traits are outdated. They need to be changed more than simply buffed.

Yea I agree with that. Looking at revenants, because of the fact the class is new, most of their traits and skills are pretty good and fits in HoT meta very well, while guardian got tons of traits based on retaliation that are useless now, as well as utilities. Also, many skills of the old weapons have a big cd for the low dmg they do, and become useless in this meta. The new weapons are too strong compared to the old ones.

That is not the point. Dropping a must need trait line like virtues for going zeal is not worth. Every of the classes I mentioned can easily stack might on their meta builds, while we need to drop a trait line that is the base of sustain for just getting a few might stacks when the passive efect of f1 triggers… Do you really save f1 that much for making it worth? Its a joke. Most of times we use it in the start for bursting…

The problem of scepter AA for me is not the fact it is not that easy to hit, it is the fact it deals so low dmg because there are builds like scrappers with bulwark gyros, retribution revenants (or even without this trait line), druids or tempest that got tons of protection proc or reflects (and not considering the base armor) that makes scepter auto, when hits, to not deal more than 300-400 dmg. I specially feel so frustrated when I fight tanky revenants in wvw, because I am dealing absolutely no dmg (because the perma protection + base armor) while the less they hit with every skill is 2k. And that considering most of them dont run retribution, so the dmg could really be around 200 with scepter AA and around 500 with gs AA if they go retribution. Seems a joke when they go 22k hp and dmg mitigation foods.

This could be solved if we had a decent might stacking.

What I cant stand is the fact scrappers, revenants, tempests and druids can stack tons of boons perma on their main build and guardian cant stack a single one without going for shouts build. Is so annoying that guardian was supossed to be the real support/healer class with most of boons and now you see tons of classes with better boons stacking, broken dps and better support than guardian.

I don’t get it? basicly you don’t want teams to spec and have roles. You don’t want teams to try out new compositions. You moan about toughness and resistance..

These are here to make the game interesting. Would you rather have it we all just use a zerker set of armor and fight in OC?? it’s not 2013…

Seems like you missunderstood, because what I am saying is, because of these new tanky runes and foods, everyone is running the same, not builds diversity, not glassy builds anymore, just tanks everywhere. Condi chronos full dire, perma protection revenants with durability and tanky foods (and many of them even with retribution trait line), full tank scrappers with 3 gyros build, perma stealth condi trapper thieves… Where is exactly the diversity if, since HoT, everyone plays the same and lamest build on each class (except maybe thieves)? Have you ever seen a rifle or p/s scrapper? Because I didnt find more than 1 or 2 since HoT.

With the expansion many tanky and innecessary stuff got into the game, specially the runes of durability and tanky foods like the 10% dmg reduction one, that combined with tons of toughness and vitality, as well as perma stability builds anet brought to the game (revenants, scrappers), and not forgetting the possibility of stacking perma protection with boon duration foods (that is part of the 10% dmg reduction food) /runes (again durability) or gear stats on that already tanky classes (revenants and scrappers), makes WvW full of AIDS.

First question: were all this new tanky stuff needed in the game? You nerfed runes of defender, because they were too broken, so why do anet brings even tankier runes than defender, that not just offers toughness, but also protection proc, regeneration, resistance as well as boon duration? Wasnt too obvious every class, excepts maybe thief and offensive guardian, would exploit them? You nerfed runes of strength too, because they had too much might stacking and burst potential, but I still didnt see a decent nerf on this runes. It is not just the fact you didnt nerf them, but you made they can easily be adquired in WvW… Come on, you first delete them from structured PvP and now you gave us them “for free” in WvW?

The fact anet doesnt care about WvW balance was obvious, but with all this tanky and INNECESSARY stuff they brought, that absolutely destroys the builds diversity, same as these tons of perma stealth condi trapper thieves that you cant even see because the traps dont reveal them, and many other aids builds, just makes WvW a game mode focused on zergling that doesnt let roamers any chance to have fun, because 70% of the builds you find are full power tank or full condi aids, like full tank scrappers with runes of durability and tanky foods with bulwark gyros, perma protection and perma stability, at the same time they stack perma 25 might stacks, regen, fury, retaliation… Or the same with revenant, and not talking about perma heals and tank druids.

When I watch old videos about WvW roaming, like 2013-2014, I feel nostalgic, because almost every build had a chance to beat each other (except few exceptions) and the roaming and dueling were really fun (also there were much more people roaming) but every patch hurt the balance a bit more, at the same time they added more condis and boons stacking, turning the game balance into what it is now.

In 2013-2014 my medi guard didnt have stability with any skill, not even with f3, but it was fine because I didnt need it, blocks were enough. Look now, chrono with perma stability on shatter, necro with perma stab on DS, scrapper and revenant with perma stab on dodge… Please, even thieves got blocks and guardian got traps.

Make Scepter Great Again! ("Again"?!)

Well I am wvw player in EU and I think I am the only guardian that have never stopped playing the classic build with scepter + focus / gs, even as dragonhunter (at least I have never seen any other dh maining this weapon set in wvw), and, in my opinion, it is better than longbow vs certain builds and worse vs other ones. The only builds scepter is bad against are the tanky ones, because in wvw you can mix tanky foods, durability runes and tanky stats or trait lines for making a super tanky build that only few classes can beat, and dh is not one of them. So, what I mean is longbow works better vs that tanky builds because it has more pressure with autoattacks (you can avoid scepter autos moving fast to the sides, but not longbow ones), and you can keep that dmg on 1200 range, making use of the minor trait that increases the dmg 13% when you are further than 600 range from your enemy, something scepter cant because the autos are only reliable at 600 range or so, and for scepter 2 you need to previously inmobilice your enemy (the only good dmg you can deal being further than 600 range). But vs real tanky builds, longbow wont work the same way scepter doesnt.

I still consider scepter focus being stronger vs some classes like d/p thieves, d/f or s/f eles, squishy revenants and scrappers and warriors too, due to longbow doesnt have defensive skills to deal with high bursts builds with reflects or blinds, at least without a focus on your other weapon set, so, for me, scepter focus gs is better than bow/gs, but bow/ sword shield or focus might be the strongest weapon set, because it got almost everything (I dont like sword tho).

If scepter got buffed somehow would be possibly able to compete with some tanky builds, but then it would be overpowered vs squishy ones, so ppl would cry.

Adrenal Health change

Warrior sustain is so broken, I didnt test in pvp but in wvw everytime anet buffs something it becomes broken. If you combine adrenal health + mango pie + rousing resilience + the healing signet + longbow for stacking might, boon duration and around 3k armor with signet of dolyak, you basically heal per second more than the dmg I deal on this class, considering the almost perma resistance and tons of stability I saw on wvw warrior builds. Is like you burst on them and in 3s they are already full hp wtf.

Haha so funny guys I am finding warriors with boon duration and slightly tanky and even without healing power their heal per second is stronger than the dmg I deal with longbow guard. Seems like adrenal health can be stacked with longbow on warrior just hitting the ground with f1, so they dont need even to hit ppl with f1 to get the passive regen. Just combining adrenal health with healing signet with rousing resilience, mango pie and shouts heal, with tanky build and almost perma resistance and stability with signet of dolyak and stuff, as dh you cant outheal them. You burst, get them maybe at 50-60% hp and in 3s they are again full hp haha so broken.

I only want 1 thing for guardian that would put the class on a better position about druids, scrappers and revenants: to increase the base dmg of the “old weapons” like scepter, sword and greatsword. When I am hitting a tanky class I do literally 200 dmg with scepter auto, 500 dmg with gs autos, and maximum 2k with gs2. Considering the big cd of the gs skills and the low dmg they deal, same as scepter or sword, guardian has lack of dmg. Revenant or scrapper deal way more dmg and their cds are smaller, and they stack a lot of might easily, something that guardian cant even do without staff. The only thing that we can do is spamming bow 1 and 2, dont need even to weapon swap, cuz the other weapons do low dmg compared, and vs tanky builds even bow seems bad. Also, I dont understand why druid, scrapper and rev can have many boons stacked infinitely + 25 might stacks and we cant even stack 1 boon, maybe retaliation lol. If guard stacked a good amount of might I wouldnt ask for a better base dmg but we dont have anything for increasing our power dmg, that doesnt allow us to kill even full zerker druids.

Dragonhunter needs vigor somehow, when I fight revenants i feel like I need to dodge too many skills and I get outsustained so fast. Specially if they go retribution line we do like no dmg on them while they still force us to dodge their combos and the fight can take long, so at the end, my endurance and cds will be gone and I will get oneshooted. I need vigor for being able to dodge more often, also because the virtues can be rupted while casting them the class can be easily outplayed without the boon, specially by thieves. That is the main reason I still play scepter focus over bow, this one is too offensive and has lack of sustain considering the meta builds. But then I got another problem, scepter deals too low dmg vs tanky revenant, tanky scrapper, druid.. Should have the dmg buffed for being viable again imo.

What is broken/bugged on revenant: sword 2 hits without target to stealthed enemies.

Maining dragonhunter, I consider a retribution revenant a counter build, because my dmg on them is so low, I can barely cc them because the stability, they keep an amazing dmg on all his skills and I get outsustained even dodging his bursts most of fight, at the end I lose my endurance and I get oneshooted in 1 combo (guardian need vigor somehow without being forced to play honor).

As condi I would say: mehh so bad class ez win.

Conclusion: revenant is too strong vs power builds because his amazing dmg and sustain, but sucks vs condi so the class should get reduced the dmg on their skills or nerf the might stacking, sword 2 shouldnt hit in stealth but give them more survability vs condis.

For solo roam I would recommend you (if you use at least 2 traps) runes of trapper as the best choice. I have always been fan of runes of traveler, and I actually keep using them many times, but believe me, runes of trapper combined with superior sigil of agility on some weapon gives you the best mobility so far. I have kited from hammer revenants and thieves so easily with them, you can troll people so much with the trap stealth and port, people will lose your target frequently and you wont be focused that much in team fights.

I just dont understand why they nerfed the mid air port with JI. The hammer 2 burst and gs3 needs it for working. Its just a joke they nerfed it. And, when I go wvw with my guard I get so frustrated because most of the port spots got nerfed and I stay at same place when using JI. I cant even rely on it for kiting from enemies cuz most of times I stay in the same place when porting. Makes no sense they nerf this small things and they cant nerf the real op stuff of other classes like revenant sword 2 that hits you in stealth without target!!!! I hate this.
