Altermaven made a good point. As long as you get the job done you should stick with it. I think I will do some tests on my Warrior and Necro. Guardian is too squishy for me atm, even with a lot of healing abilities.

Thanks again for some of your answers, I appreciate it.

I’m a bit late, but thanks for the answers guys!

I do like Guardian/Dragon Hunter, but I die a lot faster compared to my Reaper. Especially when I try to solo some of the harder mobs from HoT for example. And I feel like my Reaper has way higher DPS too compared to Guardian/Dragon Hunter. Yet I see everyone bashing on power Reapers, so I guess I’m wrong lol…

What I probably should’ve added too is that I’m almost done completing Sunrise, so I want to take advantage of my shiny greatsword!

I’m coming back from a long Gw2 break and I’m not sure what’s viable atm. I’d prefer to use 1 character for PvE, PvP, WvW and Raids… That’s why I want some advice, especially for Raids because I heard they’re tough.

I can’t really decide between:

- Guardian / DH
- Necro / Reaper
- Warrior / Berserker

I like to use power builds btw, but I could try some condi builds too if some of them are viable

Why Death Magic?

Either Soul Reaping or Bood Magic would create much better synergies in terms of damage and sustain with the rest of your build.

I don’t really make a lot of use from the Blood Magic traits. Soul Reaping is decent, but that basically only makes Reaper’s Shroud more powerfull. The thing with Death Magic is that it helps out while using your GS and while in Shroud form. I also like that it removes conditions while in Shroud.
But the best part to me is Unholy Sanctuary. A lot of the HoT bosses have some kind of ability that will kill you instantly. Because of Unholy Sanctuary you will survive those attacks!

The build: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQJARWnMba2kWas0Y7m2NxyGlNQvpeTL5CW8UsLOGhCANgVg0OYrlvA-TxRBwA3U/JylUY2+DmVCiXXDgnUwVlfAA-e

I made this build a long time ago and it has served me very well. The main reason why I made this topic is because of raids, and the fact that I see a lot of people being negative towards Necro’s and Reapers (especially power builds). In PvE it works very well, which is why I think it will work well in Raids too. I haven’t tried it yet, though.

The reason why I made this build was because I wanted something tanky to survive on my own in Heart of Thorns, but I also wanted to put out a lot of damage. This build seems to do both very well. If you’re a bit cautious it’s pretty hard to get killed.

Here’s how it works:

I mostly switch between GS and Shroud, the staff is a back up if I get to low health (+ it has a lot of AoE). Against very strong mobs I’m a bit more cautious with the amount of lifeforce that I have. I really try to use it as a second health pool, and it’s also the reason why I use Unholy Sanctuary (it saved my ass very often!)

It’s easy to build up might and apply vulnerability (which increases crit chance). This gives a great amount of damage in combination with all the ferocity that this build has.
Switching between GS and Shroud gives about 4/5 abilities in total that hit between 10 to 25k damage. It’s a pretty simple rotation too.

The most OP thing about this build is once the target drops below 50% health. You can continue spamming Gravedigger, which easily hits 20k each time if you have a good amount of might.

One last thing, you can change the signet if you want. I just like both it’s passive and it’s active.

I’m very curious what you guys think. Hopefully some of you will try it out

I use Primordus & it works just fine so I don’t see why it wouldnt

Well I mean Volcanus has a fiery effect that may look really weird with that chill effect on the 3rd auto attack that the Reaper has.

I’m saving up for a greatsword skin that fits most of my characters. Volcanus is probably the skin I’m going for but I’m not sure if that’s gonna work on my reaper because of that chill effect… Is there someone who can test this for me and maybe post some screenshots/gifs because I don’t want to waste the 500 gold :P

Any skill challenges that you did out in the world (now Hero Challenges), those points where converted into the new HP (not shards).

Essentially the only existing skill points that got converted into spirit shards were those “in excess” of the calculation for the HPs given to you for your current level + challenges completed. So, any you got from “leveling” after 80, or from popping skill point scrolls were what got converted.

I see… Well I mostly farmed skill points in PvP and stuff. I had about 200 in my inventory (I kept them in my inventory in case I changed my mind about my favorite elite spec) and I guess those are now spirit shards…

There should be 200+ core map hp to earn in the world. If you do not want to earn them, the jungle now has 40 hp also, but jungle points give you 10hp per one.
The change your talking about mean, at level 80 you have enough HP to max your core skills.

Yeah I did some research before posting this :P
I know about the HP that you can find in the jungle, but that’s not my point. I saved up all those skill points to unlock as much as I could from the beginning but now I’m stuck with those spirit shards and I’m not looking forward to grinding all those HP again

So quite a while ago I heard about the specializations and stuff so I took the time to make some preparations. I leveled my Necro to level 80 and farmed some skill points. After that I took a break for a couple months.

Now in the meantime they changed the skill points system and I’m now left with useless spirit shards that I don’t want/need. Is there any way to convert the spirit shards to hero points?

I spent a lot of time to prepare and if I can’t get my hero points I basically did it for nothing ._.

Edit: I kept the skill points I farmed in my inventory in case I wanted to use them on another character.
I basically feel like I got kicked in the balls because all those skill points are now some crafting material that I don’t need T_T

[Suggestion] Auto-targeting toggle.

Jarvice.4590

Hey everyone,

I got an idea for a fairly simple option in gw2. Right now you can enable or disable auto targeting in the control settings but I’d like to link that option to a key on my keyboard or mouse.

Why is it usefull? For stuff like this:
I’m on my warrior and I’d like to use “Rush” to get past a couple of monsters. So I disable auto-targeting with a button on my mouse to get past them, and then I press that button again if I want to fight monsters.

You could also add a little indicator on screen that tells you if auto-targeting is either on or off. But that’s optional.

Cheers.

Using auto target at a distance is not the way to go… but that was somewhat obvious imo .
Anyway, I still think that this option would be nice to have. Disabling auto targeting and spamming the tab button while fighting against some mobs is annoying.

I’m not sure if the forum is the right place for technical suggestions but I had to start somewhere :P

TBH Ari I can see thief wielding a focus mainly because each profession is a “school of magic” or w/e it was I read about. I can see the focus act as shadowy shield/veil. As for other weapons:

Rifle —> Sniper

Sword 2 handed —> Like greatsword wielders except faster and less damage proportionally.

Offhand sword —> Berserker

Terrestrial Spear —> something :I

Torch offhand —> pillager

These look like fun!

Breezed through thread again(and added some of mine, and sorted in order of “plausibility”):
1. Off-hand torch. Torch+Thief sounds great in my opinion. And that’s by the way, a Condition off-hand weapon. Off-hand pistol and Dagger are not really all that condition-based no matter how you look at it – they are all about direct damage and utility conditions. It’s a weapon that creates new build diversity.
1. Off-hand sword. Now, this sounds awesome. But the disadvantages are that it really gives us nothing new. We already have direct damage builds with pistol/dagger off-hand. What unique could an Off-hand sword bring? And is a Thief with 2 swords any plausible? Isn’t he a warrior then?
3. Rifle OR Longbow(not both for sure) as a long-range “sniper” weapon. Most likely Rifle, but overall unlikely since that would result in unhealthy gameplay in my opinion.
Aside from these 4, I don’t really see any other viable somewhat easily implementable options for thief.
If I was a game designer and had to choose a SINGLE weapon set to add to a class(do you expect more? are you nuts? It would pwn and destroy all the balance and will require astonishing amounts of work), for Thief it would be a Torch.

Looks like you really gave this some thought. But keep in mind that it’s just a game. You can play warrior as a mage, and play mage as a warrior in Gw2 so that logic should apply to thieves aswell imo.

What about Offhand focus? idk about these skills tho lol
Dagger Main hand
Skill #3: Assume defensive stance. If attacked in mele range give torment and counter.
Skill #4: Drop Dark field. (360 radius)
Skill #5: Blast location causing bleeding damage while evading attacks (2 sec evade)

Sword Main hand
Skill #3: Daze target (2sec) and roll to backside of opponent.

Pistol Main hand

  1. skill: Block (3 sec)

Could be a more defensive mele range setup. Optional Condi/control

I haven’t really thought about the skills either, but this looks decent.

I dont think Greatsword fits the thiefs’ style actually. Its way too big to jump around with/deal quick hits.

I’d rather see offhand sword (melee) / rifle (ranged) added

Yeah I thought so too. But using a Twilight on a thief would look pretty cool :P
Offhand swords and rifles sound pretty good too imo.

Hey guys,

I noticed that the Thief class doesn’t have a lot of weapon options compared to the other classes. I think they should add some for a little more variety, that wouldn’t hurt anyone right? Personally, I’d love to see greatswords on thieves!

P.S. This also applies to the engineer. But I play more on my thief, that’s why I posted it here :^)
