Hairstyles as part of the wardrobe

I was unaware of this permanent hairstyle contract. Pricey, but interesting. Where is it sold?

Yes, you can preview, but it is not as convenient as, say, going into the wardrobe, making a selection, and hitting accept.

Dear ANet,

I am not sure where the best place to post this is, so I am putting it here.

My ele DPS’s during the week and heals raids on the weekends and suits up differently for both, because one, well, must look the part as well as play the part.

In fine tuning the look of her healing gear, I realized the fantastic collar on her chest piece is all covered up by her sweeping locks.

It occurred to me that it would be really great if we were able to switch between “purchased” hairstyles as part of the wardrobe or through a similar convention. A couple of alternatives could be:

1. Allowing for hairstyle changes in game by visiting an npc and paying with in-game coin

2. Buying “visits” to said in-game npc with gems instead of a separate kit every time (much like transmutes)

Tald,

Played GW2 at release and have been on a long hiatus. Looking to return and very much like the idea of a close-knit guild. That is the kind of environment that I am used to. Was in a guild like that in WoW (and other games) for years. Looks like you are still recruiting?

I just don’t understand why people come into threads like this and think that recommending to roll a warrior is at all good advice for someone playing a caster. It’s downright aggravating.

That said, here are a couple points to consider:

1. Make sure every piece of gear that is upgradable, is upgraded with a gem or some other augment. Armor is generally completely swapped out every ten levels so you will have time to make use of the augments. In addition, with master salvaging kits you will be able to retain the good augments for use in the next set.

2. D/D puts the class with the lowest base health very close to the enemy. Learn to move accordingly in fights or try a different weapon combo. D/D is cool with a lot fun abilities, but like anything else takes practice to master.

3. You are only level 14, you don’t have near all the abilities you could have at your disposal, and I bet you don’t even.have all tour item slots filled. Gotta give it time.

Scepter and focus

I am a level 58 Ele and I have done the vast majority of my leveling with the scepter and focus. I had done the scepter dagger combo and found myself simply wanting more survivability. Scepter focus has increased my survivability significantly. It does, however, have a lot to do with your preferred style of play and practice. I don’t recommend it in dungeons, as I have found you want to capitalize on dos and so might want to go s/d or staff. For PvP, I have limited experience but so far the scepter seems inadequate due to casting time and positional aspects of spells like fire wall.

Sacred Silver Blades [SSB]: a unique guild experience on Jade Quarry

in Guilds

Jeric.4980

Sacred Silver Blades [SSB] is a small, casual guild of serious players that marks it’s beginning in Neverwinter Nights on AOL in 1996. We are looking to build our membership on Jade Quarry with mature, like-minded people.

We are a multi-game guild, with members currently in World of Warcraft, Rift, Star Wars the Old Republic, and now Guild Wars 2. A small group of us have taken up in Tyria and are looking to build our numbers there. Many of us are working adults with families, so our guild atmosphere is pretty laid-back. However, we are serious about our game and strive to maintain an attitude of mutual help and respect among our members. We are not elitist, hard-core gamers. Instead, we focus on player development and lifetime membership and community. We encourage mastery of character (in all senses of the word!) and follow a “pay it forward” philosophy.

Membership in Sacred Silver Blades [SSB] is a truly unique experience. Some of what you can expect as a member:

1. A gaming family dating back 17 years! We like eachother so much we meet in Charlotte NC each year for Blade Bash, a weekend of merriment recounting the year’s glorious deeds in the game worlds we inhabit and our guild’s long history together.

2. Tangible guild advancement and reward. Our rank structure rewards the long-term, dedicated player. You start as a Merc (no we don’t pay you to join us =P) with an opportunity to prove your loyalty and dedication by becoming a Squire to one of our Knights (full members) and undertaking a personalized Knight’s Quest to become a full member of the guild. Then, it doesn’t end there, but continues on with leadership opportunity, Orders of Knighthood and Badges of Achievement. Not to mention the swag that is available to you in the SSB Store!

3. Access to the guild website and forum at www.sacredkeep.com and our dedicated vent server. Since we span multiple games, centralized community and leadership is a big part of who we are. As a member of SSB, you are a member of all the games we inhabit.

4. PvP based, PvE embraced. We come from a heavy PvP background, counting NWN AOL; DSO; UO, EQ1, DAoC and WAR among our many exploits. However, we understand the value of and enjoy PvE, too, and have embraced doing well in that, as well. Whatever your focus, you are welcome.

5. Crafter, explorer, hunter…we support all game interests. Our Legion system ensures you have a place to shine within the guild, whether you prefer farming mats and crafting; exploring every last nook and cranny for that last achieve; running events with guildies or hunting players in the Mists and elsewhere, your unique contributions will be known as a member of the Enlighteners, Plunders or Weaponmasters Legions.

6. Charity, honor, respect. We play the good guys, and doing good for our guildmates and our fellow players is at the heart of who we are. If you want to game in an atmosphere of mutual respect and support, SSB is the place for you.

Our primary goals as a guild in GW2 are as follows:

1. To grow the guild in both numbers and influence
2. To provide an effective, organized skirmish force for competitive SPvP; and as part of larger forces in WvW
3. To conquer the dungeons of Tyria as an organized group
4. To explore the world of Tyria and have fun together

Interest piqued? Looking for a place to call home? If you are interested in being a “founding member” of “the Blades” in Tyria, head to www.sacredkeep.com, send an email to joinsacredsilverblades@gmail.com or whisper Melisandris in game.

Crash/Black Screen Issue (NVIDIA)

Did Ascalonian Catacombs last night. In less than an hour I had about 30 black screens and about a fourth of those resulted in a graphics driver error that threw me out of the game. I then had to log back in, port into the dungeon and run back to my group.

I have no choice but to shelve my main until this is resolved. I will not miss content because of something I cannot control.

ANet…you got anything on this yet? Please?

Kyros, thanks for posting your build and strat. I found it insightful, as it is very near to the build I will be running myself, not to mention refreshing amidst all the naysayers in this forum who should really be posting in the warrior forum. I play an elementalist because I want a classic versatile spellcaster.

If you would be so kind and give some insight as to how you progressed in this build as you leveled? I am not yet 80 and would appreciate the advice.

Ok, I see a lot of complaint about the complexity versus the simplicity of other classes. I guess I don’t see this as an issue. I think the attunement is an excellent mechanic and when mastered, can be very rewarding to play. I have spent a lot of time on my ele just trying to master the staff, and switching out elements mid fight etc. Instead of ragging on the class mechanics, why not learn to exploit the nuances of the class. What I am really seeing is a lot of folks basically admitting they are too lazy to push more buttons. Guess I can’t fault them for it. WoW probably made them that way.

Ok I jest…a little. I personally like the fact that I have to pay attention to where I am in proximity to my enemy if I want to survive. Attuning is not a burden to me, I like the versatility. It’s why I picked the class. However, I am also not hyper-fixated on dos numbers and am content to sacrifice some to be able to protect myself and have some control over enemy encounters. The elementalist is well suited to this.

Crash/Black Screen Issue (NVIDIA)

in Account & Technical Support

Ashley, first, I would like to say thank you for keeping in touch with us on this issue, as it is very frustrating. You asked for instances of the issue and workarounds tried, so I will add mine.

I get the following intermittently:

1) An intermittent black screen for about 5 seconds with games sounds in the background.
2) An intermittent black screen and then minimization of the game with game sounds and cursor in the back ground.
3) An intermittent prolonged black screen and an error message that says a driver error has occurred and Guild Wars 2 needs to exit. This sometimes locks me up temporarily and even an alt F4 or ctrl alt delete does not help.

It appears to be some kind of monitor refresh, because when I get the black screen, my monitor says “monitor” in the upper right part of the screen. It’s as if I had changed graphical settings.

It “appears” to be happening when I enter a new zone or during intense graphical output, like a public event. I spent hours in Kessex and had maybe three of them, but when I got into Gendarran Fields, I almost immediately had successions of them and had to restart the game multiple times. It’s caused some deaths, some missed vista content and has interfered with my personal story. I have tried dumbing down the graphics, adjusting antialiasing in the NVidia control panel, running multiple driver versions, even bypassing my wireless router to no marked effect. Some have recommended a graphics clocking utility which I don’t feel I should need to run to play the game.

My specs are:

Intel Core i7-2600 3.40 GHz
8 GB DDR3 1600 Mhz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB 16X PCIe
Barracuda 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gbs
64bit Windows 7 Home Premium

Game runs fantastic on near max setting save this one issue. I am looking forward to you guys smashing this bug for good.

“Does not help the poor performance in Guild Wars 2. The problem is with ANet they need to fix the game.
Nvidia even stated on their forum that no driver can fix a poorly optimised game.”

Agreed. It would be nice if ANet would take responsibility for the pervasive black screen issue that is NOT fixed by this driver.

Nvidia Black screen issues ('fix' not working)

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Jeric.4980

Jeric.4980

I have the same issue. Sometimes the black screening is more sporadic and sometimes it is successive, seriously affecting my gameplay. Most of the time I have a short period of black screen with game sounds in the background. Sometimes I have my desktop with game sounds in the background and game cursor but inability to do anything (but wait for the game to reappear). Sometimes I get a CTD and a driver error. I have looked at every forum (and there are many spanning multiple graphics cards and configurations). I have even talked with NVidia, who recommended the clean install of the newest drivers, which I have done.

I only have this issue playing GW2, have had it since beta. What is ANet doing to resolve the issue? Clearly from the multitude of forum posts that are not limited to NVidia, it requires attention. Personally, I am annoyed that I paid for a game I can’t return, and worse can’t enjoy, because of this.

I don’t want to hear about antialiasing or driver updates; let’s hear a real solution, assuming you can find one.
