You have several weeks to decide if you want to pre purchase, all still playing veteran players are going to consider taking advantage of this, $50 is not too expensive for an expansion when you consider that this game does not charge fees to play, and it is not sensible to call the amount of content being added “thin.” You don’t have to pay extra to get the included character slot anymore, so I’d say the $50 asking price is reasonable. Honestly, it’ll probably entertain the average player for more hours than most games that currently sell for $50 new.
I don’t think there is any justice in continuing to rage over this when anet has made a reasonable compromise that more or less eliminates the need to spend an additional $50 to not feel ripped off. You technically have until the day before launch to prepurchase, so if you decide not to prepurchase, then you’re spiting yourself.

To be clear. In the context of GW2 ‘map’ and ‘zone’ mean exactly the same thing. Queensdale = a map = a zone. What you call a zone, gereden, is called a ‘region’ in GW2. Ascalon, Kryta, Orr and so on are regions.

Ironically, this is me too. I’d spend out for the Ultimate edition if the Standard also came with a character slot, but the Standard not having it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

You call this classy ?
It is anything but classy, giving the new players a gift is all fine and good but this is blatantly trying to cover up their previous FAQ’s that stated you need the base game to be able to play, which suggested that people needed to buy it before hand, which SEVERAL people did as per Anets answer.

You and I have a very different definition of classy.

And they said they will compensate users within a specific time frame. Stop hating.

I wouldn’t say he/she is hating, they took the easy way out, they were not upfront with their customers, and it now makes all those sales look shady.

If you hit someone with your car and its an accident, you stick around explain what happened, you don’t push them into a ditch and cover them with twigs and then try to play the accident card once your caught followed by offering to pay the hospital bill.

Except for the fact that they gave extra slots for those professions.

5 core (Monk, Mesmer, Ele, Warrior and Ranger) plus 2 slots for Derv/Rit/Sin/Para.

You still ended up with 7 slots if you purchased Factions first or Nightfall first. The argument here is that it doesn’t matter if it’s an expansion or standalone campaign, they could very well have offered 1 slot for the price of $50 instead of giving away the core game free (which everyone already has and has no use for).

Yeah I’ve just explained that Will…

Eye of the North is an expansion, we’ve established that and yes it didn’t come with any slots. That’s because it didn’t come with new professions so there was no need for the slots..

  • Saw that standard didn’t come with a character slot when every previous guild wars series expansion that added classes did, and I would also be paying for a base game account I don’t get, and literally logged out of game in disgust.

Technically wrong.

Only one expansion came out for Guild Wars 1 and that was Eye of the North. It did not come with Character slots.

Where have you been? GW1 had 3 expansions. The last one which was EotN was an expansion that was like $10 and precursor to GW2. The other 2 expansions all include character slots and an entirely whole new world and content that is equivalent to the original GW1 which you still need to purchase. It wasn’t given as a freebie.

Those are stand alone games that you can merge. You dont get free character slots with them, they just add all the slots you bought since you joined them all.GW1 had only one expansion and it didn’t come with a character slot. Don’t talk crap if you don’t know.

But that expansion also didn’t release a new profession. So here’s the confusion. Whenever there’s been new professions released in the previous games, they’ve given extra slots to accommodate that.

People are talking about Factions (released 2 slots for Ritualist and Assassin) and Nightfall (2 slots for Paragon and Dervish).

Whilst this is an expansion, it’s releasing a new profession, the basic $50 version should come with at least 1 new slot as part of the package. It would fall in line with their previous way of releasing slots with the introduction of new profession/s. Regardless of if it’s a expansion or standalone.

Agree with OP. I seriously considered the $100 option (because that’s the only one that made any sense). But in snatching up the Ultimate Edition I would be supporting a ill-conceived and morally wrong purchasing plan. So for now my hopes of playing in HoT have dimmed considerably unless something on the buy page changes.

Why do people say “fix” the zerker meta like it’s a problem that needs to be fixed? Several things are already being fixed, such as condition application, condition effectiveness (fire stacks, woo!), strengths and weaknesses of each class (mesmer finally being able to be a tremendous asset through slow every third crit) are being polished. The zerker meta is just that, a meta.

I in no way condone the elitist behavior that sometimes wiggles its way into this forums, but it’s for entirely different reasons than the margin between demographics. How anyone can promote the zerker meta when my debit card has a higher purchasing power than all of your puny meta builds is beyond my understanding.

Lol, revenant is a profession not a race.

The only thing “lol” worthy is the fact that people keep posting the same ignorant statement that has been explained multiple times.

He’s referring to questioning how racial abilities will be used as a revenant because their utilities are legend-locked and currently they have no access to racial skills.

The OP isn’t even confusing about it. USE racials.

Yeah, isn’t it funny how enemy rangers are, supposedly, OP and yet, when you try to do WvW, you virtually always get (normally politely) asked to retire your Ranger (as they’re, apparently, virtually useless) and bring virtually any other prof (ideally, heavy armour) instead.

Isn’t it funny how enemy Rangers are, supposedly, OP and yet, when you do a dungeon you get told that “Rangers aren’t meant for dungeons.” and that “New players shouldn’t play Ranger.”.

Isn’t it funny how enemy Rangers are, supposedly, OP due to using ranged weapons and yet, you are told by people on your own side that ranged weapons are virtually useless, in most situations, due to them having far worse damage than melee weaps and that you should, therefore, use melee weaps whenever possible.

Isn’t it funny how enemy Rangers are, supposedly, OP and yet, by all accounts, Rangers on your own side are so underpowered and lacking in survivability that they should go home/switch to another prof whenever possible.

Isn’t it funny…

Seems to me (and it’s exactly the same situation in WoW with Warriors and DKs), that people who never like to lose, obviously, choose to play profs which are OP and have high survivability.

Then, because they are people who can’t handle ever losing, if they do occasionally lose to a Ranger, they simply whine to high heaven and demand endless nerfs.

All the while, these very same people still see nothing wrong in, simultaneously, telling everyone on their own side that Rangers are useless and that they should swap to a “good” prof.

ANet, wake up and smell the coffee, for goodness sake.

We’re not OP, we’re severely underpowered, especially when we use bows.

Otherwise, why are we constantly being told by people on our own side to not use bows (our natural weapon of choice) and to switch to another “good” prof, if possible?

I will begin: range. I spoke with many ranger in my server and they feel ranger range should be slightly decreased in between 1200-1400 range. I mention of 1300 range which i suggested; they say it is ok as long their damage and mobility are not tampered with. So it is 1300 range than which will help range class be a challenge class and fun class to other class.

This guy is lying. He posted this in ranger forum and got completely rebutted. He did not give any constructive counter argument and just ignore all posts that other rangers proposed why the nerf is not necessary

There title says it all, with all the complaint thread centered around ranger it could very well be only a matter of time before they just throw the profession under the bus to quiet the mass.

So with that in mind where can the profession give up ground that could shut the complainers up, but without ruining the profession?

This topic is pointless and rent, should be closed.
You guys try to nerf most nerfed profession… profession that already is poorly viable, and LONGBOW has a name for reazon … some staff ele or mesmer or warrior can shoot or cast a spell almost the same range..

Message to OP if power LB is problem for you, you are probably countered, and build to prevent that.. if you cannot dodge two times then my you should probably play PVE, because ranger LB is not even OP.

Wish I could get back to GW1.. PvP-GvG. It feels like we are outcasted, not desired or rewarded..

At times it seems some players forget that there isn’t a subscription or pay walls that other subscriptionless MMOs have. Then they get their knickers in a twist because the game has a cash shop with pretty baubles they want and that’s somehow unfair.

I’m really surprised people are trying to argue against this (one on semantics of all things)… It clearly does 1900+ and should only do 1500, needs fixed (yes we’re all aware that other projectiles benefit from it too but none of them get an extra 400+ hence why its the most commonly noticed and felt).

Note no one else has requested other projectiles be exempt from whatever change is required tooo.

You both do realize that every projectile has similar properties and that complain would have to be applied across the board.

I actually dont find this to be true. Ranger shortbow arrows essentially disappear at like 950 range even if you shoot them at an upward angle.

Mesmer GS. Ele staff. I’m pretty sure that even thief shortbow auto shoots farther than it’s listed range (though in practice it is less than worth mentioning since it won’t hit anything moving).

Warrior Rifle, Warrior LB, Engi Rifle.

You know what, it might be easier to list weapons without these properties. Ranger shortbow technically still has them, since the Arrows DO travel beyond the listed range.

Seems to me that it’s just an algorithm that ranged weapons are processed with, and that no “hard” barriers were set into place because it would mean less efficiency when making future changes and might also interact with the algorithm weirdly.

That is completely your opinion on the nature of that advantage and due to the grenades Area of Effect nature they also will damage outside of the listed range. As for justification that is not even a remotely good argument if fact it places you and other with your opinion firmly in the drag a single profession down mindset that seems to be the only system of balance that those of that thought process can accept.

However the projectile behavior is really at it most noticeable (for all projectiles) in cases where elevation is different.

All that being said it can’t be that much of an issue as rangers aren’t dominating the tournament scene and most like this has only come up due to the fact that ranger was on the daily in which this thread was started.

So fix them all. LB is by far the most game changing.

Then the original poster should fix the title of the thread and reword his request as a plea for them the ‘fix’ the properties of the projectile in the game instead of directing it as a plea for rangers and only ranger to have their projectile behavior adjusted. The general support of the original presentation reeks of drag the profession that is either given them trouble or that they just don’t like.

Even though I main an engineer I despise turrets but at least they can’t move. There is no way spirit weapons should get a buff like that being as they follow the guardian around.

Maybe the turrets can’t move but the engie can. To the other side of the map while his turrets stay alive and active.

Tie the Engie to the turrets so he can’t run away and lets call it even ;D

As much as I hate turret engis if they leave their turrets they are as good as free kills, even on point its not that they are hard to kill more that you can’t really fight them on point without getting flung around the map so its easy for them to hold the point. In a non conquest mode people probably wouldn’t have such a problem with turret engis but in the current game mode we have they are annoying.

I feel everyone here is discrediting the OP’s initial post.
The fact of the matter remains that -> Spirit weapons are useless

They do need a buff

They do need a buff. Everyone else don’t want SW to have a buff.

As is now they are very lack luster given that they with the exception of shield & utter crap in PvE.

It also really sucks that you can spec 8 of your 14 trait points into them and still have them die so easily.

Personally I think they should be redesigned to be a bit more like mobile banners that follow the guardian around & can be commanded to give a special buff.

Sword could give + precision to allies & the command could be to cause their next X attacks to inflict bleeding or torment.

Hammer could give + power to allies and the command could be for your next attack to stun the enemy

Shield could give vitality & the command could be to create a dome that absorbs projectiles.

Bow could give…. something
