Things YOU know as facts:
1. I can buy unlimited items off the Tp without any server limitations- FALSE
2. I can pick up unlimited items into my inventory from the TP without any server limitations – FALSE
3. I can set arbitrary buy order prices at unlimited speed without server limitations. – FALSE
4. Doing any of these things in reverse (selling) causes an error to pop up – what?
Things devs have stated as facts in the past:
-series of random ad hominems that clearly make your points more valid…right?

Just because you don’t see the technical implementation of some aspects of the systems doesn’t mean it’s magic.

Megaservers

John Smith.4610

I’ve recently seen quite a few posts mentioning megaservers. As per standard business, I can’t say anything about release dates or future content, but I can say that we recognized that megaservers were a problem quite some time ago. At that time my squad joined up with the deific ~Susan and her team to begin work on the system. I wanted to tell you that we know there are problems and we’re fixing them. We’ve released some very minor changes already and there will be several phases of fixes applied over the next few months.

I think this thread is pretty good evidence that the value of skins is incredibly subjective. Sometimes a cool skin is going to be basic, gritty, realistic or plain. Other times a god’s hand come from the sky to hand you a universe tearing, light sparkling, night glowing mace that may not compel awe as much as it will force other around you to dance until the stubs of their bones beat a catchy cadence for your amusement.

Is elder wood giving you headaches after the introduction of foxfire clusters?

Aand, sort of a repeat … you have to love numbers, perhaps you could tease us with some numbers. I don’t know, x bazillion oozes squished since launch and they dropped x gold total. Pretty please with interest on top.

Just this month 7,496,080 Oozes have been dealt with.

A GDP?

John Smith.4610

John Smith surely uses metrics comparable to GDP to kitten the health of the game’s economy across several dimensions.

In his shoes, I probably would not choose to share them.

  • Publishing some specific stats might have an undesirable impact on the economy. Other stats might be too useful for gold sellers.
  • Publishing only a few stats tends to give undue importance to those numbers — despite any caveats given, people will will mistakenly draw conclusions that are then hard to dispel.
  • The data is probably available in a form useful to JS and his colleagues; it would probably take considerable work to make it publishable in a form digestible for the majority of players.

I’d love to see this sort of data, but I think JS would already be posting stuff like this if it were both easy to do and likely to be of use to the community.

How to Fix GW2 Economy [ranting a bit]

People really need to be more obvious when they are not serious.

John, care to comment about the rumour that you have a big red button on your desk, similar to the easy button but it’s glowing apparently – that would, if you press it, delete all gold from the game period. Undisclosed sources are saying you received special training in a monastery somewhere in the himalayas (where you may or may not have unvoluntarily gained insight into the life of alpacas) in order to responsibly operate this button. How do you manage? Do you receive extra compensation?

That’s a real button. Unfortunately, due to a labeling error, it’s now indistinguishable from my button that destroys the world. So right now it’s a very serous game of chicken with 50/50 odds of total planetary annihilation.

Cheers again John, thanks very much!

Well…thats basically a “never use this place again.”
Seriously this is insane, the only salvage you can get from this thing is a copper ore, and the item itself is the single most common salvage item I have gotten in this game(I’ve been to four started areas now,) how an item can be worth three times the cost of what you get from salvaging it is beyond me.

But yeah, I am not going to use a system where I am forced to sell for some insane overinflated BS price just because, thats both a terrible economy, and something I don’t plan on participating in.

Hey Videogamermike, not sure if you know me, but I’m John Smith and I’m the Economist here at Guild Wars 2. I think I may be able to explain some of your confusion.

It sounds like what you’re thinking about is the Labor Theory of Value, which is essentially an item’s value is defined by how long it takes to make or get. This is not an invalid theory, but it usually only holds up when the item in question doesn’t have substitutes or alternatives. In GW2, many of the items can be converted into another item and many of the items have multiple conversion into themselves. This means that there a many alternative ways to obtain a single item. This means that the value of all these items will be determined by the market, not by the value of labor since there isn’t a single value of labor involved.

I’m given to understand that Ho-Ho-Tron would be further ahead if he wasn’t having to spend time dealing with customer support due to the numerous botting reports filed against him by Marcello.

I laughed pretty hard, well done.

I saw a request somewhere () for this statistic, but I don’t have an official account for somewhere.

So, if anyone is interested here’s the current donation split:
Ho-Ho Tron: 52.18%
Marcello: 47.82%

I’m actually surprised it was this close! My money was on Ho-Ho Tron all the way.

Changes to ecto salvage from rares

John Smith.4610

Hello all, I’m on the case still, but want to make a quick statement. If there is any change to ecto salvaging it is not intentional.
I promise you that if we change anything involving ectos, there will be public information on it.
Some may be skeptical if they haven’t interacted with me before, and that’s ok, but as long as I’m working with the economy, information on ecto changes will be public, end of story.

Prices of Ectos being controlled?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: John Smith.4610

John Smith.4610

It’s only game, set, match if the final data is provided that substantiates that the control of ectos is not controlled by a small minority, i.e., 2 guys could have traded 140k of those ectos with the remaining 10k being squabbled over by the 9498.

Stats can be used to prove or disprove anything (often the same thing). It’s all in how you present it. Not saying that’s the case here, but just saying.

A minor distribution breakdown.

I always think it’s hilarious when a dev/mod comes out and makes such a fallacious comment as to rule out with almost 100% certainty a bug could have been introduced with the patch….like their track record is perfect.

I think it’s hilarious when I’m looking at a million post patch salvage results and you tell me I’m wrong.
