PU mes isnt fun for the other person to fight against. Even if you can kill them, it’s not satisfying. Its an aggravating experience to fight a PU mes.

Wah! You guys are making me sad. I enjoy PU Mes when I’ve played so far – but are there other solid condition builds that aren’t quite so “frustrating” like you said?

Any input from a Mesmer that runs PU in WvW? Do you find this is true? That you mostly just have people running from you….?

But I can never ever recommend you to run PU-mesmer, its not fun and a great bunch of people will just walk away.

What is this supposed to mean? That it’s too cheesy and other players won’t even engage?

This hasn’t been my experience thus far in WvW (minimal experience, though). Is this the case in other people’s experience? There are plenty of terribly cheesy builds that I still engage with (D/P Thief, Turret Engineer) – so just because generally the builds are “easy” to play doesn’t mean I’ll run away from them.

Hi all -

Been playing since launch, mostly focused on PvP. I’d like to start doing some WvW roaming. My brother and I both play, so we’d ideally like to pair up and roam around together.

Can you help with suggestions for the best profession/build pairs for two people roaming together?

I primarily play Thief, Warrior, and Mesmer, but we’re both open to pretty much anything. I’m hoping to find a good partner for D/D Thief or PU Mesmer, but again – open to any good suggestions.

No bonus chest on wurm kill

Did you already kill it once before today? The bonus chests are only granted once a day and it resets with the Daily Achievements timer.

No, this wasn’t the case for me. In fact, this is the first time that I’ve actually ever beaten all 3 wurm heads. I believe I should have received The Wurm’s Golden Chest reward, but got nothing.

Is this a bug that is being looked into?

  • We’re adding PvP specific back pieces to the reward glory vendor (guild tabards)
    • We’re switching them from rank vendors to glory vendors, and are keeping rank vendors.

Hold on a second! Adding them to “glory vendors”? Does it mean they will cost glory? So should we start saving glory for when they are made available?

Agreed. This is very unclear and the logic seems contradictory:

We’re adding new stuff that you can buy with Glory, but we’re simultaneously removing any ways to get Glory.

Opening Chests after March 18th

  • We’re adding small, medium, and large rank reward boxes based on rank achieved. This means that ranking up in PvP now gives different types of boxes than previously.

So I take this to function similar to how Achievement Point chests work. Is that correct? As in, maybe we get small chests at level X2 (12, 22, 32, etc), Medium at X5 (15, 25, etc.) and Large at X0 (10, 20, 30, 40, etc.) Is that right?

If so, I think that’s okay. That’s not a bad way to manage it, especially considering I’m sure it will work retroactively like the Achievement chests did.

Or am I totally misunderstanding….?

Shield sigil may vary and amulet is Barbarian (power + perc + vitality*) if there are necros or engis (high condition spammers in general).

Honestly, though, it’s pretty cheese especially in zergy games. Just run around auto attacking and fall asleep, lol.

PS: Did the build have quickness at all?

This seems very similar to what I saw. Probably the closest I’ve seen, but I felt like the other War had more Toughness than this produces. But without trying it out, I guess I don’t know for sure.

I’ll definitely give this a shot tonight, as it’s the closest to what I had in mind so far. Thanks very much for sharing! I’ll add you and let you know how it goes! Appreciate the support from everyone.

You picked the class who’s core mechanics are: counterless invisibility, spam, massive solo burst damage, and running away..

As a PvPer who mainly plays a Thief, you’re not looking at it correctly. If you’re fighting a Thief that constantly goes into stealth and runs away, he’s not helping his team in sPvP and you’re definitely winning the match, even if you don’t kill him.

Also, it’s not that hard to CC a Thief – most classes have a couple mechanics that can handle this. It helps prevent the running away issue and the “counterless invisibility”. On occasions where I need to retreat, any good players often have ways to stop this. Especially 1v1.

Well you can still kill people on khylo, forest and temple through knockbacks… it’s just require more effort!

Effort isn’t really my thing. I like to get as many kills as possible without actually having to do much to earn them. Skyhammer is my favorite.

I’m not exactly sure if I know what you’re asking – but as far as I understand, all of the armor and items that’s sold from the Glory vendor will still be available after the March 18 patch, with the exception of the Mystery Coffer. This being the case, it seems clear to me that the Cultural Armor sets (and Dungeon Armor sets) will still be available to purchase after March 18.

From the ANet post:
The glory vendor that was introduced in the December 10 build will remain until the new reward system is released in a later update so you’ll have an avenue to spend your existing glory, but we will be removing the Mystery Coffer from his selection of wares.

Thanks for this info. That’s what I was leaning toward, but wasn’t sure if he would have put 20+ into Strength for Berserker’s Power or Axe Mastery or Great Fortitude. Seemed to have a lot of damage and health.

I successfully dealt a good amount of damage to him, but never seemed to keep up the pressure long enough to take him down. He was definitely a skilled player, but had a great build to back it up.

So, I play a D/D Thief in sPvP most of the time. I usually can handle Warriors okay – if I can’t take them down, I can usually manage to get away from them. But not this guy. This guy continually kicked my a** across the map.

I’ve figured out a good portion of the build, but I’m curious what the rest of this build involved.

It was Axe + Shield/Greatsword. Healing Signet, Dolyak Signet, Berserker Stance, Endure Pain, Signet of Rage.

He managed to take little damage, deal out a respectable DPS, have around 27k health, and also throw out some conditions (especially Chill). I assume the Chill was a result of a Sigil of Hydromancy.

But what about the rest of it? Is this a common build that I’m just missing? What are the traits/runes that go with this build?

This is why capture the flag PvP never works in MMORPGs. Certain builds and certain professions always have abilities that break the intended gameplay. The only way to deal with it is to disable everything unique about each profession – the core of an RPG. And people hate it when you don’t let them play their profession.

Spirit Watch was an experiment to see if it could be done with some modified rules. It failed. The map is worse than Skyhammer.

While I understand your point of view, I’m an ex-WoW player and I could spend hours upon hours playing Warsong Gulch. That’s seriously the thing I miss most about WoW – I’ve never found anything that can replace the thrill of the Caprture the Flag from Warsong. Such an amazing game mode. The only negative was when it was unbalanced and people would camp the spawn point, but it was rarely an issue.

The key was that EVERY class had something to bring to the table. Balance was perfection, I thought. Keep in mind, I’m talking about the state of the game back in 2007-ish, so I don’t know what has changed since then.

Potential Thief Healing/Survivability Build

Is this| build a viable one for survivability?

It seems like it might be a decent option for PvE? Keep in mind this is something I’ll be using for some dungeons+roaming around on my own or in small groups doing exploration, events, etc.

Any thoughts from more experienced players? All helpful feedback is appreciated!

I imagine they’ll do something soon, just no idea what. Stealth is the biggest complaint on the WvW forums, it will get some attention sooner or later. They’ll probably do something with CnD since it’s the major offender right now. But just to be clear, no one has said anything official yet.

Could you elaborate on this a little bit? I realize you’re only speaking from personal opinion (and nothing official), but what do you think will happen to CnD? A nerf to the ability? I haven’t been around for much of the stealth “issues” that have come up recently.

I’ve never found a vampire/healing build that worked for the thief in dungeons/fractals, things just hit too hard and we heal for so little.

Ah – that’s what I’m afraid of. As I mentioned, I’m relatively new to the PvE side of things, so that’s why I’m here seeking advice. I think the build has some potential, but it isn’t quite there yet. I end up being decent at everything, great at nothing (except dodging). A little more tweaking, I suppose!

More suggestions are welcome!

Wouldn’t DPS be pretty high with bleeds/venoms and the appropriate traits? I suppose it’s more of a DPS/supportive build, rather than a tank. I don’t need to see massive numbers- I’m actually more interested in being able to survive, heal, steal health, dodge, etc.

I’ll still be able to sleep at night even if I don’t get huge Backstab crits. I’m just trying to do something a little different – I’m tired of the Glass Cannon build. Seems a little…bland to me. Yeah, getting a big critical is exciting for a while, but it’s lost the appeal in my mind.

So I’m just looking for something new. I might mess around with some variations on this and report back. Keep in mind, this is PvE oriented. In PvP a Glass Cannon-ish build is still tons of fun to be able to catch/crit to death the runners : )

Any other feedback or experience would be much appreciated! I’ll definitely try out a few builds after work today.

Hi all -

I recently started to do some more PvE on a regular basis, and I wanted to design a condition damage/healing build that’s able to deal some good DoT and also survive longer than the Glass Cannon builds. Still using Dagger/Dagger. I’m hoping to deal good condition damage with venoms and bleeds (thus leading into using Leeching Venoms for added survivability).

Let me start with a couple of questions. Does the healing produced by Signet of Malice and Leeching Venoms provide enough healing to be significant? And if not, would using a Superior Sigil of Life help this at all? Finally, adding a Superior Sigil of Blood on the offhand for added life steal.

Going onto the armor, I’d likely run the Condition/Toughness/Precision Nightmare armor from TA. Would you recommend keeping the Runes of the Nightmare, or maybe swapping this out for something like Superior Rune of the Undead?

Also, I’m not sure where to even start with Traits (other than going far enough into Shadow Arts to get Leeching Venoms). Any recommendations on that front?

I apologize if builds like this have been discussed previously, but I haven’t seen much that works the way that I’m hoping. Looking forward to your thoughts/suggestions.

Feel free to criticize as much as you want – I’m relatively new to PvE Thief!

Hey guys -

I’ve got a question for you that’s related to this topic.

Last I checked (a few months back), a Thief condition build wasn’t really viable at all. I feel like it was always outdone by straight damage builds. Is that not the case anymore?

I’ve always loved the medium Nightmare armor from TA, and I definitely would love to get my hands on it. But with the +condition damage, I’m hesitant.

Are there good condition damage builds for thief now (which would make the Nightmare armor more useful)? Bleed/poison builds for D/D?

Thanks for the help. Definitely interested in getting the mechanics of a condition dmg. Thief down.
