Guild Wars 2 as a Real Time Strategy Game?

Hey guys,

recently I had a funny idea:

Wouldn’t it be cool if Guild Wars 2 would take the “reversed” way of the Warcraft-Universe?

What I mean by this:

Warcraft began as RTS and then went MMO, wouldn’t it be great if Guild Wars, which started as MMO would get it’s own RTS Game?

You certainly can’t deny that the potential for that IS there and I already made some thoughts about this; story missions like The Battle for Claw Island for example would work quite well as Campaign Missions I assume, for the Fractions you could just take the 5 different races or the Pact, especially the Charr emit a lot of the “classic” RTS charme in my opinion they’d be able to Produce Charr Tanks, Assault Rollers, Charr Copter etc. for example and train infantery in training camps or such alike.

Sylvari would be more tied to natural aspects, Asura would create Golems in their workshops and sent them into battle, Humans maybe could work some Wonders through their divine bonds and the Norn…..well….uuuhhmm..could drink a lot? No real idea there yet for them… :P

Heroes would be a thing that I could imagine for a GW2 RTS as well, since every Race has it’s quite “famous” characters the gameplay / game design choice for heroes would be quite obvius I think, Charr could have Tybalt, Rytlock, Smodur…., for Humans maybe Logan, Jennah and so on…..

The Story of GW2 would also mosty work for RTS Campaign missions, Battle for Claw Island, Terzetto-Bay, Onwards to Orr, Battle for Orr, or making Campaigns for the games Add Ons like Heart of Thorns would be quite possible as well I assume…or just find a whole new and unique storyline for a GW2 RTS, that would certainly be fun as well!
And of course there MUST be a mode where you can set up your own Custom Maps / Games, since that’s quite a mandatory game design choice in modern RTS I’d say…

So, much text, short thing I actually wanted to say:

How would you like an Guild Wars 2 RTS? Do you have own ideas / concepts for this?

Maybe we can gather enough material here for Arenanet so they would realize a game like this? :P

Guide: How to play Revenge of the Capricorn

in PvP

Heya all.

Since I’m done with my “Salty Sea Dog” Achievement I thought I’ll give you my two cents of thought about how to play this map. We tested it about 50 Fights with our guild, and the guide is based on our pretty effective strategy.

So, let me get started:

First of all, you need to realize that this map differs a LOT from the usual PVP Maps, since the actual Mid here is way closer to both homebases than Close and Far are, making it technially a “Double Close”, and thus, both parties will be able to be there quick again, even after being defeated. And Close / Far are both a bit further away from the Base than Mid is, but both also tend to be closer to the Bell.

So best way to play this map, very unlike to other maps is:

2 go close, 3 go far, and both parties try to hold the points as best as they can, completely ignoring Mid.

Until the Bell appears. Then 4 should go to the bell and 1 should flip the other points if neccessary. If not, go Bell as well.

Only go for Mid when it’s empty and you see the opponents are far away or to create distraction from the Bell in the Bell Active Phase.

If you think this guide is helpful or have any constuctive criticism, it’d be very welcome

Feedback: Shared Inventory Slots

I almost feel like the devs have read my topic with the recent patch! Thanks sooo much guys! Though, one more thing would be awesomely nice as well:

A sidebar… Why not… Or simply keep it on top but make the scrollable area start under the shared slots.

If it would’n scroll with the rest, that would really make it absolutely perfect!

Either the Battle of Kyhlo Map needs a MASSIVE rework or needs to get banned from ranked, I’m sincerely p***ed about this map now and I think it has a reason why it’s so unpopular.

Just had a match where two people of the opponent team where almost permanently camping at the treb, just 3 of them on the map actually fighting for points and it was IMPOSSIBLE to go even near the treb without either fighting back and losing about 50% of your HP or rushing through and end up dead on arrival. The way to reach the enemy treb is WAY too long and can be defended and protected WAY too easy for a powerful weapon as the trebuchet is.

Not to mention all the times when opponent rangers are oneshotting you after leaving the base from the hill when you’re one of the un lucky classes without reflection skills -_-

Really, this map sucks enormously for ranked, where it should be about indivdual and team skill, and NOT who can abuse bad map design the best…. -_-

Feedback: Shared Inventory Slots

You know, as nice as the shared inventory slots are, but there’s something that annoys me about them, so much that I decided to put down my very first Forum Post in here after 3 years of actively playing Guild Wars 2, two things that annoy me to be specific:

1. The placement of the shared inventory slots

I think, most of us have put their salvage-o-matics in there, and if you have a big inventory, it’s a pain in the * when you have a lot of new loot in your inventory and you always have to scroll up and down and up and down and up and down through your inventory to salvage your stuff.

So I thought, why not make it a sidebar, that is unaffected by the scrolling of the inventory? I imagine it like this on the picture I added here (with my really bad photoshop skills, but I guess the idea should be clear?), so you can happily scroll up and down through your inventory when it’s big and still have fast and quick and comfortable access to your shared inventory that wouldn’t be affected by scrolling anymore.

2. Permanent Tools

As useful as these are in combination with the shared inventory slots, so I never ever again need to buy tools, I PERMANENTLY forget to “put them back” after use, and of course this is a fault of my own and maybe someday I could get used to it….it really get’s old after a while when you change character, have to change back to unequip the tools there and then change back again to equip them on the charater you wanted to play now…….so, wouldn’t shared / account wide tool slots for stuff like this be nice as well?

It would make the shared inventory slots even smoother and more fun to use as they already are.

Looking forward to your feedback
