Hurricane Sandy Interrupts our Halloween Event [Merged]

This thread is going a bit off course, I think. Hurricane Sandy is indeed a terrible storm and all my east coast friends have me worried sick for them, but Anet had a schedule planned out long before that. It isn’t about catering to so-and-so, or not catering to so-and-so. Any finale you guys miss will probably be uploaded onto youtube a thousand times over.

BUT. That is not the point. The point is that (a) there are people who have their lives affected by Hurricane Sandy. (b) ANet has a schedule they planned out so © Extending the Halloween event is impossible.

Any further discussion talking about whether or not this affects you (trust me, it affects everyone – the NY Stock Exchange is pretty kitten important, as are the UN HQ, and the Elections, etc etc) is irrelevant. Anet has explained quite well what they have scheduled so look forward! No regrets! Find things on youtube!

Sylvari Cultural armor.

I’ve done previews of all the cultural armors of every type (heavy/med/light) and my advice on dyes is this: get some dyes that actually have plant-y words in them. Personally, my theme is Amber/Black Cherry/Midnight Rose. It works well… I’d imagine that dyes with fruit/plant names would fit on the texture better. ALSO, there is a dye-sorting option that allows for you to sort your dyes by the texture, iirc.

What made you want to play a Sylvari?

I at first wanted to play an Asura because they could be condescending with good purpose. Then I (1) found out that Asura didn’t make nice-looking gear very visible, they were too small (2) read the story about Mr. Sparkles on the Anet blog, and (3) found out that Sylvari armor was soooo elegant -. Yeap.

Sylvari naming conventions

Basically, Sylvari are Gaelic/Irish type lore-related names. I only know because I planned on naming myself “Eithne” meaning kernel after about 10 or so days of browsing hundreds of tree/ogham/translational/naming sites, but it turned out a Sylvari NPC had the name already so I couldn’t get it. >.<

Logan and his infamous decision

in Lore

Okay think of it this way: Pretend your party allows for 6 people: a sylvari thief, an asuran golemancer/engineer, an asuran magician/thing (i think zojja is a mesmer, she shot purple bolts at me in ta >.>), a charr warrior, a norn ranger, and a human guardian. Now say your party is going into some random dungeon (say CM, if only because Logan is the NPC in that dungeon that follows you around). Then, say in the beginning of your epic bossfight Logan the NPC gets oneshot and none of your party bothers to revive him. Now, plenty of people have completed CM without needing to revive NPCs, and the same applies to plenty of dungeons… Our GW2 parties for anything (even Arah, where you DO fight a dragon…without even a dragon ally like Glint) are 5 people, Destiny’s Edge is 6 people…so quite frankly, I can agree that the death of Snaff is really a tactical issue and not a “Logan ditched Destiny’s Edge” issue.

That’s my take on it anyway. Sure, Logan can feel guilty about it all he wants, DE can keep blaming each other, but in the end its just because they aren’t good at bossfights…

Mesmer downed/drowning deception bug

It happened once doing a skillpoint as a thief and shadowstepping, so its not really a mesmer bug so much as it is a “do not let people get into non-world areas” bug ^^ however, its still an issue that can only be solved by wasting waypoint money…yup.

It’s not a matter of being teleported to a non-world area, this skill literally locks your character in place. It immobilizes you. You cannot move at all. etc etc.

You cast it, and your character is frozen. You can no longer swim to the surface or do anything else.

It isn’t teleporting you to some non-world area, it is freezing you in place.

oh, i was referencing the OP’s part about being stuck under rocks and swimming around ^^

Keeping yourself alive might not be as hard as you think…i ran this as a squishy damage only (no vit/toughness at all) thief with a ele with the same low hp and toughness and we both made it out first time just fine…the devs probably tested it and didnt die/let trahearne die so it made it through….

Issues with getting in dungeon instances

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Kael.8960

Update: A few hours ago I was able to get into TA explorable by being on overflow server and relogging from a main to an alt then back, to tell the map that my main is no longer in a (nonexistent) open instance. For some reason before we bugged, the party member from a different server than us was always able to get in but we were not. Therefore, it seemed logical for the rest of us to go to an overflow and wah-lah, it worked.

Issues with getting in dungeon instances

So some clarifications (from my point of view)

General and Universal bug of dungeons failing at entry tends to be because more than one person attempts to create the instance (aka run into the portal as the starter). This results in two separate instances and cannot be resolved by party members exiting, relogging, etc because of (what I believe is) server lag, which registers the members as still existing in that instanced area and therefore fails to port them anywhere.

When I run with non-guilded members the above situation happens a lot due to uncoordinated party members, who all run in and try to go in. It at first happened to guild parties as well but after I convinced them to make sure only ONE person, usually the inviter of the whole party, to enter first and prompt the popup, the dungeon would be entered smoothly.

Another situation we implemented yesterday was to have one person already inside their solo instance and then invite the rest of the people (that were waiting outside) to the party, which allowed us to once again enter the same instance.

It looks to me that this bug is mostly caused by an oversight in the programming that doesn’t register entering players as part of the same party or not, probably because it uses the same interface as the main quest instancing which allows party members to be in separate instances.

If, on the other hand, ANet decides to implement some different function like only allowing party members access to one specific instance while entering dungeons, then none of the bugs would occur (except for perhaps the popup bug, but that would be nullified because running into the portal would put you in the same instance as your party).

The above is simply my opinion and my conclusion based on data gathered from my various attempts at running dungeons, to be in no way taken as truth. Hopefully it provides insight into the many common bugs to deal with in dungeons. ^^

Monthly Achievement: Experienced survivor

I’ve gotten this achievement – I believe it starts from 1exp but I wasn’t really checking when I did the achievement. Downing doesnt reset it, and I believe any character death should reset it…the way the achievement is set up seems for it to be a single-character thing. Just explore one map and you should get the achievement ^^
