I completed the Mad King’s Clock Tower and chose the Light gloves with Dire stats (wanting this for my Mesmer) on my Engineer being unaware that it was a one time reward per account. I cannot sell or salvage the gloves and it is a one time reward which makes it currently useless for me, I was wondering if anyone from Arenanet could respond on whether anything can be done or am I just screwed and lose out on the reward?
Personally I would rather the item be account bound and soulbound on use at the very least if it’s going to stay 1 per account.
It seems to me that the bloodlust buffs are not Arenanets attempt to balance matchups coverage and neither are the Seasons. Bloodlust buffs seem to be an attempt at trying to break one massive 60(for example) player zerg up a little bit with having to defend multiple points, granted this won’t completely break up zergs and it will also still favor the side with more numbers. As for the stat buff the only way the bloodlust capture points will work to split up the zergs is if they make bloodlust actually worth defending rather than just letting the enemy zerg go through each point and cap all 3 undefended, I don’t know if a stat buff is the best way of doing that as I haven’t really thought much about it but I’m assuming Arenanet has and they also will change it if it is not working.
Seasons also seem like a way for people to receive actual rewards from winning WvW once again not for balancing the matchups. The two biggest complaints i read about people who don’t play wvw is that it’s all about zerging and there isn’t any real rewards for doing it, they feel like winning is meaningless since they don’t get anything out of winning.
As for balancing matchups for each server coverage wise that seems to be a separate and just as important problem, but it is a problem for people who are already playing WvW and for people who have quit due to unbalanced matchups, not so much the people who aren’t so these changes seem like a way for Arenanet to try draw in people who have never played WvW before. I’m assuming they haven’t fully figured out how to completely balance matchups between servers while still keeping matchups fresh every week. Keep in mind that I don’t read all the responses by the Dev’s regarding WvW so i could be wrong about their intent.

I was always interested in playing a style of deathmatch closer to Quake with first team to a certain kill point or the highest kills by a certain time would win and they could even have buffs around the map similar to Quake if they wanted (Skyhammer made me think of quake lately with the jump pads so more like that would be awesome too). I was never really a fan of deathmatch where the player would die once and be out of the game completely as it felt like the fun ended too quickly or it dragged out and was boring. I have no idea how balanced it would be but i could see it being a fun thing to play in hot join at least.
just became uncontested on Isle of Janthir US
Northern Shiverpeaks (NA) is open at the moment, not sure how long its been up for
It is possible to switch teams if one team has more players than the other in hot join so for example if you are on blue team and your brother is on red team, if blue has 4 players on their team and red has 3 you can press “b” to open scoreboard and on the top right there is a green swap teams button to then switch yourself over to the opposite team. You won’t be able to be on your party members team 100% of the time but it is fairly easy to stick together most of the time with just 2 people.
This will only work if one team has more players than the other, if teams are even then you can’t switch as well as you can’t switch to a team that has more players than the opposite team. I will quite often do this when playing with friends that are new to spvp in hot joins since they don’t want to do Tpvp yet.
Other than that the only way to properly group queue is to do Free Tournament pvp as Empathetic Fighter said, which you can queue all the way from solo to a group of 5.
I think it’s very important to make sure that if a visible ranking is shown then i hope it is introduced with a separate solo queue system and current single round free tournaments are kept in the game as another option for players like yourself and me too.
I hope so, even though I’m scared the wait times will get longer with all the people joining ranked games and the possibility that people will join unranked just to blatantly troll around
This seems to be the biggest thing Arenanet is worried about when asked about creating a separate solo queue ranked system.
I actually don’t think it would hurt the game, right now when i join single round free tournaments the longest i have to wait is about a minute and this is playing at fairly inactive time zones (Australian). I believe that creating more options for both competitive and more casual players will increase the Spvp population which should keep queue times down even with separate queues.
The only place that might have significantly longer queue times is the 5v5 only queue. I believe this would also be improved eventually by the increase of the overall Spvp population as having more competitive players will bring more people to making their own 5v5 teams which increases competition for the 5v5 only queue therefore decreasing their queue times, this would be improved even further by separating solo players from 5v5 players since part of the reason why so many pro 5v5 teams are quitting is due to the only competition being solo players which is very boring and not competitive at all.
Arenanet may have to make the rewards from 5v5 only queue quite significant to create more desire from people to create their own teams, this could be done with either in game rewards like gems again or maybe by actually starting to develop the e-sports part of GW2 pvp by making 3 round/8 team tournaments a weekly/montly/quaterly e-sports tournament which you qualify for by playing 5v5 only queue.

I think it’s very important to make sure that if a visible ranking is shown then i hope it is introduced with a separate solo queue system and current single round free tournaments are kept in the game as another option for players like yourself and me too. This would make current single round free tournaments the equivalent of normal games in LoL which don’t really have the problems you’re talking about due to no visible ranking in those, and then there is the option for more competitive players in a solo queue system with visible ranking which would be the equivalent of Ranked LoL games. This would also solve the problem of making it possible to group with friends without having a full 5v5 team, same as in normal LoL games.
Balance will come with time like all great mmos.
i’ll try not to say the dreaded “w” word, but a certain MMO beginning with w, which many would consider to be a very successful MMO has a very nice approach to balance, things that need changing get changed the classes are’nt just poked and prodded with a stick for 6 months changing borderline nothing, things get done.
after 6 months it should seem clear to everyone that Anet’s “baby steps” approach tweaking minor things every few months, isn’t doing jack.
If you are talking about WoW then i would have to disagree, one of the most frustrating things with that game was how often they made sweeping changes that completely changed a certain class from OP to unplayable while buffing something else to be OP. The most balanced state the game has arguably been in (TBC) only allowed for a couple of certain compositions to be competitive with almost whole classes and a lot of Specs being unplayable due to how bad they were.
I agree that more attention to balance would be great (hope to see more like the latest patch) but going the opposite way of massive sweeping changes is just as bad if not worse. Personally i would prefer seeing some buffs to different styles of play and unused abilities/traits with each profession rather than massive nerfs to the popular ones within reason, sometimes a spec is popular because it is too strong.

I would just like to point out that saying that node capping/battlegrounds is boring is only your opinion. I personally have always enjoyed battlegrounds objective based pvp over straight killing or death match and have many friends who feel the same way, adding a deathmatch or non objective based arenas shouldn’t be off the table as a possibility but taking out or redesigning the game hurting battleground style pvp to introduce arenas would not be a step forward.
