SPVP Mortar or Elixir X?

in Engineer

Can anyone list the pros and cons for the engis elite skills? Mortar Kit or Elixir X?

Currently I am using the metabattle build for engi where both are listed and have played about 15 games with each. I cant figure out which is better to use.

I feel like the mortar kit isnt worth it. The fields and orbital strike blast finisher take way to long to set up in a heated fight so i dont think its worth even taking out the mortar kit, however the orbital strike is so good (but is it worth losing rampage+moa)?

For Elixir X, i ususally dont even use it cuz im using toolkit, nade kit, and rifle too much. tornado/rampage are just not on my priority list cuz u cant survive burst while using it(no regen/blocks… and is it worth not having orbital strike?). The moa associated with it is really good AT TIMES but half the time it doesnt even work for some reason cuz im blinded or they dodge roll or something and then theres that 140 secondish cd that just doesnt even feel worth it.

what do u guys use for ur rifle engi build and y so?

You basically got it dude. The info you were researching is pretty accurate. However, judging from your first post I’d leave Mesmer for later, as it’s one of the more confusing and difficult classes to play.

Definetly start with necromancer if you enjoy the tankiness (when you hit 31 you unlock a new skill that makes you pretty much invulnerable). Then I’d move to guardian. Necro is fun and good but not as ideal for pve, whereas guardian is amazing in all aspects. Start with what you want to play and enjoy playing, and then move on from there.

Ele: High reward, high skill required(first class I learned to play and its amazing but would be really confusing for a moderate player)
Mesmer: Moderate reward, high skill (Hard class to play, does not have much uses in the game though. Lackluster in pvp and ok for pve and wvw)
Thief: High reward, moderate skill (but doesn’t like you enjoy stealth so I’d avoid it.)
Guard: High reward, lower skill (Great class to play, everyone wants guardians in their party for pve, pvp and wvw)
Necromancer: Moderate reward, lower skill (Fun and tanky as crap, you’ll probably get a kick out of fearing people off the edge in wvw (basically you use a skil that makes people run away from you and not able to control their character… used to make people run off the edge in a wvw mode)
Ranger: Low reward, low skill (one of the easiest classes to play, the lack of uniqueness might intrigue you though)
Engineer: High reward, High skill (hard af to play, I’d avoid it for awhile)
Warrior: Warriors are easy to be moderate at. Hard af to master though. It’s one of the two/ three class that doesnt really kite, it puts the pressure on the enemy (making it difficult to master) and judging from your post i’d avoid it. The rage/adrenaline meachnic isn’t what you think it is at all though. It’s extremely minor and has really nothing to do with the class itself. Just a timer that allows you to use an extra skill (and do more dmg, but the dmg is not worth noting for a new player).

What server/world are you on? I could hook you up with one of my guilds that zerg busts and stomps in EOTM alot if your on Jade Quarry? were pretty famous in Eotm- but honestly its not too hard to be.

As for pvp cross-server, I’d just find a separate guild. Its very unlikely you’ll find a pvp and wvw guild at the same time. It sounds ideal but recuriting people with different passions for a guild never works out well.

Teamfighting: Who To Focus and Target?

in PvP

Posted by: Kaozkrayken.9570

Kaozkrayken.9570

So obviously in pvp the most effective way of teamfighting is for your team to focus on one enemy and target him specifically.

Some procedures are simple like If an enemy is low on hp, he should be focused.
However what isn’t so clear is when the entire enemy team has full hp, which profession is ideal to hunt and target?

Is it the guard thats offering stability, regen, and boons to the team?-When targeting they will generally use their shelter, blinds, and elite for invulnerability wasting time you could have spent focusing someone else
Is it the Zerker that has immense burst- however when targeting they will generally go invis and waste precious time that you could have killed someone else (ie Mesmer and Thief)
Is it the celestial crowd controller that is difficult to take down but is stunning your team? (Engi)
The warrior thats almost impossible to take down but is passively healing your team (Shoutbow)

I imagined that this issue would have been answered as I learned every profession for pvp however it simply got more confusing and complex as I learned more of the classes.

I am looking to get into pvp atm to hit that rank 80, and am wondering which is the best target to focus as I play a thief because when rotating, targeting and bursting is key. (Especially on that kitten of a map courtyard :P)

Any feedback is appreciated and I am just looking for the skilled pvp’rs reasonings behind who to target as winning a teamfight will generally win you the game.

few questions need answering please :)

OK, so I can’t help you with the ranger and engineer as i never play mine. However, i absolutely love elementalist.

Basically for pvp uses, ele is pretty good as the tanky celestial d/d build has immense regenereation and offers pretty good teamfight. Sceptre/focus is more bursty and harder to play but is really good as well in teamfighting.
Eles all around are pretty good in pvp, however are outclasses by some other classes in teamfight hence you don’t see too many eles on the pro teams. If you want to master a class really well at pvp, I’d played a different class that offers more dps and teamfight. (-Information is referenced from Team Abjured(arguably the strongest gw2 pro pvp team out there))

However, for PVE ele is by far the best class in the game (as well as guardian). There is no question about it. Being able to do a ridiculous amount of dps that is unmatched by other classes, able to stack around 50 seconds of swiftness alone, and able to stack 25 stacks of might on command, as well as offering lots of vulnerability, invulnerability and projectile reflections (if u good enough able to swap weapons while running through the useless parts of pve or dungeons), has a teleport, has the ability to summon an incredibly bulky tank and more….

For advice on learning ele in pve I’d use the staff elementalist build on www.metabattle.com, and watch either DE Keyz’s ele on youtube as well as purple miku on twitch/youtube. There both really good, and you can learn the dps rotation really efficently just by watching. but if you dont want to, metabattle has the dps rotation listed.

Phisers? Account Will Be Shut Down?

in Players Helping Players

Kaozkrayken.9570

So i recently got an email saying my account will be shut down, however I obviously know its fake from doing my little research. I immediately blocked the sender.

However, I came across this term known as phisers who attempt to steal your account and send this email before they do. I obviously would not like my account to be hacked and my items to be stolen therefore I ask that is this an actual threat? Should I just ignore this email or are these “phisers” actually very good at what they do and can easily hack my account.
If they are, are there any precautions or preventions I need to take?

or am I just being paranoid and should stop worrying?

Thanks In Advance

PVE (meta): Staff or Sceptre/Focus?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Kaozkrayken.9570

Kaozkrayken.9570

So i have alot of 80s atm, and absolutely love my ele for pve . Hence, I basically want to master and main ele for the pve branch of the game.

I went on metabattle where i found these two builds that are both rated the highest tier.

http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Elementalist_-_Staff_Conjure
http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Elementalist_-_S/F_LH

I’ve been using the sceptre/ focus build for awhile as the dps is really nice, but I am constantly going downed as the restricted range on sceptre makes you really vulnerable. So im thinking about switching to the staff build, but noticed it doesnt have lightning hammer, which is so nice for dps.

Is there anyone that has played both builds, or knows alot about eles in general that can give me more insight on the differences in each build? Also, how is the dps on the staff build?

Currently Im just running dungeons for pve, but will soon switch to fractals once I learn more about pve and master the builds on ele.

Any advice or insight from former pve eles is appreciated. Thanks

Ranger or Elementalist?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Kaozkrayken.9570

Kaozkrayken.9570

Elementalist by far is more fun and entertaining to play. It is one of the strongest pve classes, and when built right can be ridiculously strong in both pvp and wvw.

However, it is far more difficult to learn when compared to a ranger. They’re many side aspects with an elementalist such as might stacking and weapon swapping and stuff that make an elementalist much more viable.

Ice Bow is amazing for PVE, arguably one of the best spells in the game.

Yes I am bias, but basically the ranger is easy to learn how to play and offers little reward in the pve aspect (detested in pve parties).
They are op for pvp and wvw, but also looked down upon by practically every other class because of the simplicity of how easy it is to play it.

The elementalist on the other hand is far more difficult to master. However, they can be just as strong as a ranger in pvp and wvw, but it takesfarrrrr longerrr to master.
They are arguably one of the best pve classes, and basically the ele offers much more reward for more work and time.

New To Game. Class Rundowns?

in PvP

Posted by: Kaozkrayken.9570

Kaozkrayken.9570

Hey everyone,

New player here. I wont bore you guys with the same question that noobies seems to ask: Which profession is the most op? Obviously I know the answers.

However, I’ve been doing some research on a lot of different things in regards to professions, but to no avail. Most of the sources that are online are from 2-3 years ago where the professions were a lot different.

So can anyone give a noobie a rundown on the classes for the pvp/wvw scenario?
I understand that a warrior/guardian is a tank. Elementalists are used to stand behind lines and do dps and stuff.

But I am wondering, which class has the most potential in pvp? and for wvw? Like if you held the best items in the game, which class would be able to contribute the most to the fight? (each class has its benefits and I am wondering what are the roles and benefits of each class…. not just oh hey warriors have the most armor and vitality…)

more like (choosing a warrior allows one to be in control of the battle. they are the leaders who direct the team towards the enemy because they are the first to engage in a fight. they are good when paired up with….. and are effective at leading attacks because of their high durability)
just information with deeper insight basically.

I generally like to run classes that require alot of skill and knowledge of the game, but offer the most reward for their playstyle. Hence, I am leaning towards the elementalist bcuz of the awareness needed to play him, but I do like the idea of being able to cast shattering damage to an approaching enemy/squad

but I would like to hear your guys opinions on how each profession works in high level pvp. and wvw.

Thanks
