why are most of you putting down this suggestion because this game is an mmo? have you guys completely forgotten how Gw1 allowed you to solo missions with henchmen, so why shouldnt we be able to do the same in gw2? i actually begun to play gw1 because of the fact i dont have to group up for missions, yet get the same type of mmo experience i was after.
recently i have read and heard a lot of players wanting/suggesting to be able to do things by themselves and solo the content they paid for, then get put down by you guys saying they should stop playing and find a new game, just because of the fact they dont want to play with other players.
dungeons are hard to organise an irritating to find a group without having to use 3rd party apps. One of the most annoying things so far has been the f&f dungeon, i was able to solo all the things before hand then bamn, i have to find a group to complete this so far soloable content.
Oh, and in the case for most dungeons, they become contested before i can even organise a full group.
i completely agree with worldbro on this, just because i dont want to play with others players, shouldnt force me to play others games that have a completely different feel and aesthetics. I enjoy giving and receiving help from other players for crafting and itmes, or accessing a marketplace, having a guild and etc, things that arnt available in games that arnt mmo’s
lowering my rewards would be great in return for soloable content. Im all for this.
I was lucky enough to get a group of players in a match with the same opinion about the mini game being horrible, and were nice enough to help me and a few others get the harder achievements for about an hour (winning a round, last one standing). even though some of the group randomly left at times, new players joining were glad we were helping each other get achievements, as that was the only reason they were there.
Edit: it was more a of a sudden realisation by one of the players saying “shouldn’t we help each other out instead of fighting for achievements?” and we all agreed
it was nearly impossible for me to compete with other players as I, being australian, had tremendous lag. i was hoping for more of an actual mini game (solo), not a pvp lag fest. even though this is an mmo, i prefer solo content.
Your idea sounds neat, they should implement something like this.
Now back to hoping the shooting range, bar brawl and the other future activities will be fun and not keg brawl with a pretty skin and no teams
Very very well written post!
One note though. In your original statement you forget at least one type of players, namely collectors. I know, if I wasn’t a collector you were completely right. But I am, and I do want every single minipet in the game – That includes the sport of being in every single event. I am ready to spend time (main factor of course. It’s a game, meant to waste time) and even some money on them. But when you come to a point where either the time it takes to get the minipets by playing is greater than the event (By playing 5+ hours a day, I know, I have no life), or the amount of money required to get them gets greater than what you actually paid for the game – Well there is a problem, because it simply ruins one type of playing. I’m not saying everything should be easily obtainable, but it should at least be possible.
Edit: For clarity; So yes we could “let go of this one” – But then our collections would have a big gaping hole. So we’re hoping for ninja changes instead, although unlikely.
I agree completely, collecting should be accessible by everyone, not just people with ALOT of spare time, or those with large sums of money to spend of the item store. i dont want anet to make it easy, but being able to obtain rare event items shouldn’t be restricted to hardcore players
tudaa i tell the truth
not sure you are aware of this, but you have a huge book glued to your back, and its smiling.
oh my,where did it come from :O
the screen is mine, ill get some others now
actually, i was jumping around and fell into a hole (ended up being the cave) im a super-pro-jumper-finder-hole-guy i guess..
Not sure if i should post it here, but im wondering if anyone else has found this secret cave in LA, near to where the portal for the upcoming event is, havn’t found any info relating to this, but its was pretty neat accidentally finding this. it contains nothing other than the shovel and chest type of thing.
wow scyhthe does look real plain, luckily i got the crossing out of a champ chest so im really happy that i got that instead of buying a scythe skin..
My above post sounds harsher than I want it to be.
Can’t edit it, so just adding this here.I just can’t really understand how you can first complain (a bit) about the whole magic find thing, and than go on about the chests as if that was a lesser loss.
Both are examples of the same, and I still think losing real money is a lot worse than losing game money. In both cases it’s about not really knowing what you were buying into.
In both cases people seem to get disapointed at their purchase. That’s it. In trying to get my point across as clear as I could, I might have come out a bit strong
okay i completely understand you know yes losing real life money is a horrible feeling, but i partly believe that its both anet and the players that are to blame, if anet never implemented keys into being a major factor into getting these items + the fact that they cost real money, a lot less complaining would of happened and a lot more people would be happier (i for one as i don’t have money for these keys). but the guys who spent hundreds and got nothing were just asking for disappointment. ive never spent money on in game items so i would never know how it feels to waste money on nothing (well for games that is). what i was saying in my first post was just agreeing with most other people who find the general drops all over tyria a bit disappointing. and just to be clear, i love this game, im just hoping anet tweaks a few things for future events so that a lot of players will be less disappointed
There’s a running saying in my guild,
“There’s no farming in Guild Wars 2, because it is not allowed.”
Just another example of something that may have been a touch overpowered being nerfed into silliness.
Extremely true, im just barely managing to get over 1 gold (used to have 3 but spent it all on keys) and thought id just be able to get more gold by farming for items, with my 196% magic find, im barely able to get anything above a few whites and 2 blues maybe 1 green in about 3 hours… pissed off about the money i spent for magic find items, and not getting anything out of it.
i guess this is how people are feeling with the chests then.. but honestly dont cry to anet because you spent all of your saved up real bucks and didnt get anything out of it, that was your choice, yes the regular drops should be a tad better, but you spent your REAL money on virtual items, well not even items really, keys…you spend virtual money and are complaining you didn’t get anything. Than I have more sympathy for those complainers who spend real money… I truly do.
i wasnt complaining about the chests.. i was complaining about all item drops in the game, and how rare everything seems to be (even if its a crap item). i managed to get the crossroads from the skele champ chest in mad king realm without opening a single chests (i did open 3 later for curiosity). anet is trying too hard to keep the gold to an absolute minimum for the non extreme hardcore players.. if gold becomes less rares, gem prices are going to be much higher.. so anet really has not much to worry about.

all these people complaining how all these exoctics are for the rich players, trust me, they’re not, with just over 1 gold i managed to come across the crossroads staff in the skele champ chest. stop complaining so much and if you really want these exoctics go farm some gold. none of the anet staff ever said that their was a certainty of getting something out of the chests, they said there was a chance. Its a gamble if you spend real money on keys.
other than that, i do agree that there should be better loot drops out of the chests in general, so that people do get something out of them instead on stupid tonics and boosts no one wants.. but seriously, everyone knew that the loot was crap from the beginning so dotn go on how you spent 100+ bucks on keys when you could of just transferred your gems to gold and buy them off the TP
The old C2D/C2Q/C2E cpu’s have a real hard time with modern mmo’s. Specialy GW2 which is so cpu bound.
Even if you are not seeing 100% cpu load, that does not mean your cpu is not slowing your system down. The way old cpu’s process data compared to new cpu’s means that they may not be fully loaded, but they still process the information slower than a new cpu.
Any old cpu that tries running GW2 and has over say ..70% usuage ..or there abouts, is bottlenecked. This can be proven further more by looking at GPU usage ..if your fps is under your vsync (60fps usualy) and your gpu usuage is UNDER 99%, that means its being slowed down by somthing, and in 90% of cases thats your cpu.You can help reduce this bottleneck with overclocks, but it will still end up being bottlenecked in the end becouse the architecture of the old cpu’s just cant cope.
My last computer was a C2E (QX6850) which was OC’d from 3ghz to 3.66ghz (couldnt go any higher due to crappy Motherboard and cooling). Going from that to my current rig, using the same graphics card, i saw a MASSIVE improvment in fps in MMO’s (not in GW2 i got new comp b4 that).
So in the end ..yes your high cpu usuage is normal for your cpu, yes you can help increase fps with overclocking, but only marginaly. yes you need to upgrade. Recommend a i5 3ghz+ rig to play comfortably. (note my idea and another persons idea on comfortably may be different)
Since im a bit cheap, do you know anything about the upcoming AMD processors, the piledrivers? i saw that they were selling one at 3.8GHZ for $130+. sounds a lot more worth for my money
oh, and my gpu runs at 54 % on auto detect settings.
When on desktop or browsing web i usually get around 2% cpu usage, but bam, when i open guildwars (including just the launcher) i get up to 99% cpu usage. i also have issues in game with low fps in some areas, but if im lucky i can get up to 30fps, this occurs on auto detect settings. when i put it on best performance it still runs very low fps, about 20-25. on wvw i get 7fps walking around and in battles get 2fps. i live in Australia, so some of the lag might be just because of location, but thaat shouldnt be destroying my fps. i dont want to spend money on a cpu and realizing it was something else. any help is appreciated.
im running a gtx 560 non ti
intel core 2 quad (2.50ghz)
4gb of ram
not sure about mobo, but its from the hp pavilion p6080a (really hoping this isnt the problem.)
nothing overclocked and all running on latest drivers
im thinking i might update my mobo and cpu as its seems a bit outdated by now.
i have a mate who’s running a cpu with 1.90 ghz and gtx 350, who gets up to 54 fps on settings the same as im running now. so it seems odd that im just manging to get over 20 fps on lowest graphics. system restored about a week before gw2 release, and not many programs installed.
