Skill Name- Pious Light
Utility Skill Type : Meditation
The guardian focuses his energy into a coalescing ball of blue light, throwing it at the target location, after a small build up, the light launches a few feet into the air, growing larger as it reaches its peak. Once it reaches its peak, the Pious Light will explode, showering the area with an area of affect mist that grants Healing to allies (max 25) caught in the area. The pious light can be detonated early for a decrease in healing, but grants regeneration and protection to allies remaining in the mist.
Upon Early Detonation : 200 healing + (.250 * Healing power), 3 seconds of protection, 3 seconds of regeneration per second, for 10 seconds leaves a combo field : Light
Upon Detonation : 3500 Healing + (.450* Healing Power)
Recharge : 90 seconds

Oops, your right. For #1. for # 1 it should be the new trait that gives +250 healing power while using a mace
for number 2: I prefer the Shaman set because I will be attacking and i would do more damage with the burning than I could with physical damage.
The shaman set also gives vitality, which is a good factor for this build combined with the inherent toughness from 30 valor

Q: Why use Avatar of Melandru vs Renewed Focus or Tome Of Courage?
Avatar of Melandru. This was a tough choice between renewed focus, or tome of courage. I chose avatar of melandru because the only utility skills that remove conditions are Purging Flames and Save Yourself both of which have a long cooldown which do not provide much benefit for the party.
The combo field fire would be nice with the hammer for the guardian, but it is not worth the cooldowns. and best to have either someone else lay down the combo fields.
Avatar Of Melandru grants the following

How to effectively increase your boon durations without spending many points in virtues.
Runes
This rune set up will grand you a 30% boon duration increase for all other boons, as well as a 50% duration for regeneration. Which is a huge bonus, making your protection, might, regeneration, and retaliation buffs last longer.
Top that off with 10 points in virtues and you have a total of 40% boon duration, as well as a 60% increase in duration for regeneration. This enables you to keep constant regeneration up on allies, from using your symbol with mace, as well as “Defend Yourself” shout.

Mace/Focus Vs. Mace/Shield
Q: Why do you use Mace/Shield Vs. Mace/Focus?.

These all seem like great benefits for using a Focus versus a Shield. So now lets talk about the cons

The Legendary Defender
Traits 0/0/30/30/10
Race : Human
The Legendary Defender is just that. A legendary defender, If you are a DPS fanatic, this build is not for you. Neither is it useless, nor is it boring. It’s a very active member of the group. Contributing to DPS / Survivability via Buffs, and Keeping everyone up and alive without much effort on their part.

Boon Durations, How to effecively Increase W/o Spending 10+ Points in Virtues
Avatar of Melandru
THE REASON:
The reason i like this build is because it grants massive amounts of buffs, while at the same time providing an adequate damage source, by granting you and your team stacks of might. Through the use of virtues and weapon skills, you provide your team with the capabilities of a pure support, while at the same time providing an adequate damage source by being a beacon of power. The switch between focus and hammer enables you to take advantage of combo fields, especially those of water/fire origins.
(edited by Kashien.6278)
The larger symbols are for allies that lack communication and need a larger area of effect to stand in. I like the longer duration because it is more useful than a larger area.
You can check out my build thats found on my signature. Its a pure support guardian.
Gives you the breakdown of pretty much everything. WHat choices i made, why i made them. all that jazz.

Character is being re-made after taking several month break from gaming to finish up school.
Character is Re-Made as a Human Guardian. I’ll be reposting pretty much everything.
(edited by Kashien.6278)
Character has been deleted and remade into an engineer. After numerous hours of number crunching. Engineers provide much better utility and support and better suit my playstyle. Please close this forum. Thanks.
You have much better abilities at your desposal that can help your team.
I completely agree with what you said about wanting things to work, but why would you want such a skill anyway? Its a 4 minute cooldown ability. Even with a 20% reduction, it is still too long of a cooldown for only a 90+ increase in healing power at lv 90.
Dungeons for the most part. Grab yourself a couple of lv 80 yellows, and then use the tokens you get to get exotic gear which you can then salvage.
Thats what I do. 3 Ac runs a day pretty much, yields about 2gold doing dungeon, and about 1 gold selling the blues and greens, and then salvaging the yellows gives me ectos, as well as turning in the tokens, 207 potential tokensX 7- 1400 Tokens a week. meaning 10+ exotic armor peices to salvage.
The link has changed again. WTF is going on.
i’m not comparing guardians to warriors, i’m just comparing their ranged limitations and how a warrior would do twice as much as damage in the same situation. that comparison would have worked with any other class actually, because range for guardians is just that bad.
As they should. Gaurdians are not, and should not be ranged combatants. All of our abilities, all of our specs, focus on close to mid ranged protection/buffs. We have very few offensive 1200 range abilities.
To add more, to make us more “versatile” ranged combatant will destory the very foundation of being a guardian. We can protect our allies from ranged attacks, can we not? Then that is all that matters. Retribution from a range is not our fortè. Getting up close and personal, that, is what we do. We protect and shield our allies, we are not long range combatants. Nor should we be.
And yes, you can make scepter builds, but the only reason i would ever use a scepter ( and i never do, or have), is to chase enemies down. Because it has an immobilization ability on it.
The staff #2 ability has had its velocity increased, making it a more viable ranged attack. even with my build, I am seeing 2.5k+ crits with it. which may not seem much, but it can be used every 2 seconds as long as you havent detonated it for healing.
Also, if you log off your forum account, and view the post then, you can see everything. But you cannot see it while logged in.
Also takes you to the first page, but there is nothing i can do to save the hyperlinks from the last 3 comments, that i’m trying to add to the top for easier access/navigation.
30 Valor Vs. 30 Virtue Altruistic Healing Vs. Absolute Resolution
I’m also going to address the 30 Valor vs 30 Virtue. Since I’ve been asked many times as to why I do not use 30 virtues.
Q: Why do you use 30 valor over 30 virtue, would it not be better to use 30 virtue for increased boon duration and virtue recharge rate? As well as doubling the healing from Virtue of resolves passive?
30 Valor grants Altruistic Healing, as well as a 250 healing bonus while using a mace, as well as an increase in armor and defensive utilities.
30 Virtues would grant a significant increase to boon duration, and would also allow your virtue of resolve to heal for almost twice as much, the only problem with using 30 virtues is that it gives really no benefit to the party. Where valor can give toughness to allies just by being near you, virtues can give no such buff.

Concecrations VS Shouts for Support/Midline Guardians
I’m going to adress another question I’ve been asked constantly in the PM’s.
Q: What is the Viability of using Hold your Ground/ Stand Your Ground Vs. Consecrations for support?
Hold The Line

With this one, with a “1” instead of a 2, it shows the first page, but you cant save any of the hyperlinks to store for easier access.
any idea on why this is happening?
I found if you put a 1 instead of a 2. it works., but i cant save any hyperlinks to any of the posts.
I have a forum post in the guardian forums that displays my build, I have made several updates to it and have tried to apply them
But this is all i see when i click on the forum link. Is there anyway to fix this?
All it asks me to is to reply, i can see nothing previous, or nothing prior. There is nothing there.
I didnt say you NEED to have one, I just said that its NICE to have one.
My Guardian keeps 2 sets of armor, a toughness/power/healing power
and a precision/vitality/healing power.
I enjoy the latter set far more.
This should definitely go in the PVP page, and Be a sticky. Not ragging on you or anything, I just think this should definitely be made into a sticky in the PVP forums for guardians. Extremely good guide and very well planned/thought out. +1
Exionn, comparing a guardian to warrior is like comparing apples to oranges. Warriors are a different breed of fighters than we are. Its only natural that they hit harder than we do. To expect us, to be the same as a warrior, is like expecting a freshman to play as good as a senior. Every know and again you’ll run into that amazing person thats the exception. But 1 person does not make this game, and should not make the game change in order to fit the whims of such said person.
My build is also a great way to keep the party alive. You dont exactly have to follow the race as i did (charr), but the main attribute points are still there.
For those of you that say healing power is a worthless stat, and not worth investing into. Unless you like your party to go down alot, its nice to have a “dedicated support” in the party, and there is no denying this fact. A guardian is the perfect dedicated support, we can offer you stacks upon stacks of might, massive amounts of protection/regeneration, and alot of healing as well via healing breeze(if you can aim it right) and virtue of resolve, Staff#4, Mace #2, and the third chain on mace #1.
Check it out, its in my sig.
(edited by Kashien.6278)
this is such a good thread. Thanks so much for keeping it updated with your thoughts.
No problem, Again, this just shows how I play the game, there’s no “BEST or OPTIMAL” build, because everyone has thier different playstyle. Mine just happens to be more of a mid-line support.
This is an interesting take on Altruistic Healing, in which you aren’t focusing on Crits to get you a steady stream of healing, but just having a lot of boons and healing available to you via Mace and Staff.
Yep. I love Altruistic Healing. It doesnt just help increase the parties survivability, but it also helps with my tanking ability as well, since it heals 1-2k a pulse..
I like the concept a lot, and I think you strike a pretty solid balance between aggressive melee and boon support. You’re obviously not built for damage, but with enough Power and Precision, it looks like you’re set.
Thats correct, with enough power and precision, the 30 points into valor allow me a 30% increased crit damage. Like i said, this build is not for DPS fanatics, but its not useless in that department either.
I feel like Mace doesn’t get nearly enough credit. It actually does hit pretty hard, and it provides some very solid utilities.
I Agree, i see very few guardians wielding maces. When people see me wielding a mace, they think, “OMG, why isnt he using a greatsword or hammer”. The truth is, symbol of faith is a major healing ability. Not only granting regeneration, but granting an additional 370/odd healing just by standing INSIDE the circle. Which is great on Tank/spank bosses.
Anyway, good stuff. I like the build. Looks pretty effective. I might do something similar in the future, since I’m looking for a good way to mix aggressive melee with strong boon support.
Thanks, I’ve put alot of thought and effort into the build, and have even taken your suggestion and moved 5 points from zeal into virtues, and got the 25% retaliation increase duration.
DoTA/2, LoL, and HoN all have the single worst communities every created. Mobas are the epitome of cesspool players.
Little bit of a clipping issue with the aegis, but this is my charr guardian.
maulkior.
Heres my regular shield, dont think you can see it well, but there are clipping issues with that as well.
It just looks bad…. Look how bad the clipping is.
But CAN you please fix this?
My aegis clips THROUGH my arm, same thing for my SHIELD.
Its very annoying.
Yeah, The build is insane, If you like the AH/Empower,
you should check out my Legendary Defender
