Anbringehr-Human Guardian
My Build The Legendary Defender

All in all
I have Less healing because of the rune set up, but that can easily be compensated with a OmnomBerry Cookie, which gives +100 healing power and +70 vitality.
(edited by Kashien.6278)
merciful intervention:
Heals 4x less than what it used to.
IS STILL targeting closest ally. Instead of being centered around the guardian.
Used to heal for 5k, which really wasnt OP considering its long cooldown. But now. it heals for a maximum of 1.7k, and thats with full healing power gear.
Not only does it not work as it says in the patch notes.
But the healing on it has been severely reduced.
Has a .9 -1 Ratio with healing power.
Even the Elementalist staff 1 auto attack while in earth attunement will increase your survivability. Lol.
Look. Im not trying to instigate violence. No one is proven to be a baddie on this forum, so stop using that term. I’m just trying to understand where the NERF bat is coming from.
Assassins in guild wars 1 were always included in “Burst” Damage. They either had a A/? or a ?/A In thier build. They linked attack chains to do insane amounts of damage, nearly 1 shotting people in thier chain.
Guild wars 2, i feel the thieves are the same way.
In guild wars 1. You have many options to defend against a thief. You had, riposte as a warrior/ Deadly riposte, you had “balanced stance” to protect against knockdowns, you have distortion on a mesmer, you had blind on an elementalist/ throw dirt on ranger. The options are endless.
I feel it is the same way with guild wars 2. I can block for 2 seconds with my heal ability as a guardian, I have Aegis, I have dodge rolls, I have blind, I have spells and abilities that grant me defence against thieves.
As a mesmer, you have distortion, you have a sword #2 attack( i think its #2), you have dodge rolls, you have a blink, you have blind with a scepter, knockback with a greatsword, you have your clones and STEALTH.
There are a number of options available, and not just to counter thieves. I kknow warrior builds that do 11k Eviscerates. You just cant be nerfing thieves because the majority of the play base has not learned to utilize the game mechanics to thier full advantage. As thieves seem to be doing so just fine.
O.k. So I made a lv 2 Asuran Guardian for PVP. not only has my survivabtility trippled and i do amazing backflips/sideflips/frontflips in heavy armor.
But, when i use Empower with a staff. I pole dance.
I’m officially a male stripper asuran guardian.
I deleted my charr guardian and am re-rolling it as a asuran.
There’s only 2 things to say in this kind of situation.
Ha. Ha.
J/k. Seriously, why are thieves getting nerfed? I understand they can 1 shot clothies, but isnt that kind of the point? I mean, I get killed in like 4 seconds by dancing dagger spam, Sure , I complained, but I wasnt crying NERF, I was just trying to understand where the damage came from so i can better myself in the future.
I’ve already learned how to counter the thieves. Question is, Why havent the other players? Why do thieves have to suffer because the majority of the playerbase just suck.
How do people get the really cool looking armor?
I’m now rank 18 almost 19, ankittenep getting like “Gear” Weapons, and “Scaled” armor. Where is the good stuff? Just wondering, please dont shoot me/berate me for not knowing. GW2 is my First MMORPG. So i dont know how this stuff works.
I have 52000 glory, what do i do with it?
(edited by Kashien.6278)
zen, the rings/jewlery is for vitatlity, which this build lacks when wearing a certain armor set. I have a second set of exotic jewlery thats labled oricalchum sapphire of the cleric.
Yeah, my guardian build is perfect for supporting. check out my sig.
Jarvis. I wish i could hug you right now.
But by all means, if you want to be so selective, that you can only have fun when everyone is doing what YOU want, then create your own groups, and kick the people that do not abide by your rules.
I’m just saying that your trying to min/max the game. Alot of games have been ruined by people “optimizing” everything.
You know why you dont want that, because then there would be no individuality anymore. Everyone would run the same cookie cutter builds and get the same gear with the same stats and everyone would look(well, not with transmutation stones) and act the same.
It makes for very boring play.
Just to show my playstyle. I never said, “JUDGE THIS BUILD”. I was just showing my build. I know it works, and thats all that matters.
I’m just showing the build to give other people options. I’ve seen alot of threads of people wanting support style guardian. And… well…. thats my build through and through.
As a solo guardian myself, I rarely teamed, only teaming when i had to do dungeons, I will tell you that the Mace/shield and Staff is one of the best tools for soloing. Very good AoE cabability on both weapons, and great heals on both. Enabling you to pull several mobs, and with combined utilities, kill them all with impunity.
I have personally never used a greatsword, but I heard amazing things about it. I know symbol of wrath is very good farming tool. As it grants AoE damage and utility. As well as granting you a leap finisher which you can either go through combo field : light for retaliation, or a combo field : fire, to grant you a fireshield, which will burn enemies attacking you.
Yeah, guardians can solo very well, depending on what kind of build you are using.
LOL. J.k
Really, it doesnt matter what you run as long as you are having fun doing it. Being the guardian class means you are automatically equipped with a regeneration utility known as “virtue of resolve”/ a ability that automatically grants aegis “Virtue of courage”, and the ability to apply a condition on every 5th attack (Burning) “virtue of justice”. This automatically ups your survivability when soloing/farming.
No other class gets those kind of specials at lv 1.
“BUT WAIT!!!! Imagine if they DIDNT use the magic find gear, how much BETTER they would be.”
^^^^^ That is optimizing. and that is min/maxing. and has no place in any of my groups. If you want groups like that, make them yourself. Dont force it on others. That, is being selfish.
Love what you posted fildydarie
Alright, we all know that the stats on your gear make so much difference, having MF gear on must tank your perfromance. Obvious, right? Lets look at the numbers.
I will assume full level 80 exotic gear and ignore runes. I don’t have all my spreadsheets handy, so I have to rely a bit on the wiki—I may be off a little due to either wiki error or my misinterpretation of wiki content.
A level 80 will have 916 in the 4 basic stats and 1400 trait points. This is a total of 5064 stat points. This is before gear.
You get one major and two minor attributes, with the minors being worth a total of 696 × 2 = 1392. We’re at a total of 6456 now.
The major stat, which is Magic Find in the two exotic MF sets, contributes 1001. Actually, it is less in this particular case, but let’s not quibble, we’re mathing a worst-case analysis.
This means that MF drops your effective stats by about 13.5% I ignored food buffs. As best as I can tell from the wiki, this is in full MF gear, but not including armor runes.
This is a significant hit, if you look at it in the abstract. If you build around it, however, it isn’t quite as dire.
There is a very viable guardian build that is very heavy on the support that really only calls for condition damage as a stat—others are nice, but really, the damage just isn’t there regardless of gear.
Toughness and Vitality are only needed if you take a beating. Support players tend to be the most adept at avoiding damage, so in this case, they aren’t that necesary. The guardian’s natural regeneration and mitigation potential are also second to none.
Guardians that want to inflict condition damage are not beholden to crits. So precision doesn’t make any difference.
Critical damage, power… not for this build.
Healing Power is useful, so we’ll earmark that one.
Boon duration cannot be had on gear, but is very valuable for this build. Condition duration less so, but is also not available on gear.
So far we can consider:
- Vitality / Condition Damage / Healing Power
- Condition Damage / Vitality / Power
- Condition Damage / Precision / Toughness
- Magic Find / Power / Condition Damage
Of these four viable gears:
The second is the most readily available.
The fourth is what we’re assuming the player already has. What did they actually give up from the stats that matter to this build? 1001 condition damage is replaced with 696 condition damage, for a loss of 305 points (4%).
Conclusion
This means that the best-case for a player wearing MF gear is effectively a 4% reduction in stats. Consumables can offset this loss, and I see many people run dungeons without consumables, or under-leveled consumables. These people deprive the group of at least as much as some people that go in full MF gear.4% reduction in damage output is being downed once every 4 minutes and immediately rezzed. Don’t talk about “more likely without toughness/vitality” because my glass cannon elementalist can stay standing through a dungeon.
4% is asking your group to stop for 30 seconds once an hour.
I know we’re looking at a best case justification on the worst possible numbers. We’re also looking at a very trivial downgrade. What is a 15% loss—the case where you really need that stat that was replaced by MF?
Being killed 5 times in a dungeon is about a 15% loss (very difficult to geta firm value when you look at variable distances to run from waypoints, etc.)
A 2 minute break for your group is a 15% loss.
So, all things considered, there are far worse monsters than somebody who knows what they are doing and wears MF gear.
I wish i could hug you right now.
Yeah, need more breathing space.
^^^^^This.
I second this post.
I think it should be as big as shield of absorption. And it would be nice to make it that big, seeing as if placed properly, this nifty ability can absorb trebuchets and catabpult hits.
I can hit that target with it being that small, imagine how effective it will be with a larger space.
If your looking for perfection, leave this game. And go to a different one to judge. We do not need you here spoiling this game. Bye Bye.
+1 Mapokl. Thats exactly what GW/GW2 is about.
Meters are just another way for people to judge other players. And I for one, do not like that ability at all. We humans take one look at someone and make all these automatic assumptions. We do it all the time, in our day to day lives. We see a fat person, and automatically assume lazy. Despite the fact that s/he may have a thyroid condition.
We judge enough in our day to day lives, we do not need to be doing it in video games either.
Nope, But it wouldnt be fair to the other players. I prefer to be nice to everyone, regardless of what they are doing/build they are running.
Meters would just screw things up. My guardian, has mediocre dps, would that make me a terrible player in your eyes because I do not have MAX dps?, despite the fact that i throw massive ammounts of boons out to allies that help keep them alive and running /doing more dps.
You can say all you want about min-maxing.
Right now its just magic find.
But then people are going to find the ratio between toughness and vitality and if vitality wins out, then anyone with toughness will be deemed “noob” and ostracized. If toughness wins, then anyone with vitality will have the same thing happen to them..
There is just no making you people happy until you can point and laugh at someone for having terrible gear/ playstyle.
Well I have to say I don’t do any of that, I certainly don’t single people out and laugh at them or what have you. But we cannot lie about magic find. It does affect performance. I don’t expect any of that ostentation, rather I hope people understand the implications of taking magic find on their set over a set with 3 stats that souly affect performance. They can make their decisions under that understanding.. As my guidlie did, even at the cost to his team on many a night.
Yep. Min/Maxing. There’s just no getting through to you. You know best. Right? You know what is best for your guildy. And so he blindly follows you into the wild blue yonder.
I love how you think that it hinders performance.
Then when everyone is “optimal” you call for change and nerfs and banhammers, There is just no making you happy. You wont be happy until magic find is removed from dungeons.
Well, what about Farmers? Hmmm. Easiest way to get gold items is in dungeons because of improved loot tables. What you are trying to do…. is selfish.
You elitist pricks make me sick. You just cant have fun with a game, you have to min/max it and make it boring and tedious to do the same thing over and over, to find the most “optimal” stats, and gear.

All this talk about performance seems to be like min/maxing to me.
You said it yourself, swiftpaw, MF matters in a group because it effects group performance negatively. But so does low gear rarity, unoptimal build types, bad trait allocation, class, and even mf food buffs. Its not a brazen assumption at all; your say mf is the leading problem, but your argument encapsulates min/maxing all of a characters stats when its not “optimal”.
You already have a choice, its called join a pro guild with as much scrutiny as you and only do runs with them. There’s no need for you to impose discrimination on other people’s ability to play; doing so is selfish.
OMG THANK YOU!!!!! what i’ve been trying to say this whole freakin time!
and HERE
(edited by Kashien.6278)
Another form of gear inspection. Don’t want/need in GW2.
EXACTLY. Thank you.
Again , what you are trying to do is to Min/Max the game. These people could have a ulterior motive to using magic find gear, what if they need yellows to dissect and get ectos?
I’ve said this one too many times, but stop trying to min/max the game. There are more to dungeons than just speed runs.
Your misleading the public if you think magic find gear has no place in dungeons. Lol.
It has no place in performance in a dungeon. Magic find does not benefit your performance in a dungeon. Need I say it again… -_-
How does it not boost your performance, are there not other stats on that gear besides magic find?
And now, because you lost an argument, your bringing politics into this. Nicely done. Evaded the general question just like a typical liberal.
Your misleading the public if you think magic find gear has no place in dungeons. Lol.
We dont have a right to judge based on gear, nor do you have a right to judge based on performance. Those people that do, are elitist min/maxers who have no place in guild wars except at the bottom of the LFM pool, where they will constantly team with people from a cesspool of players with bad attitudes and poor team play capabilities. Its very selfish if you to want to see thier gear. and you will not stop there.
Pretty soon, you will move onto wanting to see ALL thier stats, and ALL thier gear. Once anet gives you an inch, you’ll want to take a mile.
So I say not to this. If someone is dragging down the party, big deal. Work through it. Kick them and find a replacement, dont begin the ruin of a great mmo.
again, your trying to min/max the game. Let players play how they want to play. If you want to play like that, to where yo uwant them to link their gear. Go ahead. but making things viewable to the public. No. We dont have a right to see that.
I went Sylvari, I regret every moment of it.
This ^^^^^^^
Haha, glad im not the only one.
Just saying that your making a big deal out of magic find only because you want to min/max the game.
Its ignorance at its finest. There’s no proof that magic find affects parties. What if the guy needs to get more yellows? So he can better his character, by using the Ecto he gets?
So, is he supposed to farm for yellows OUTSIDE of dungeons? Why not get 2 birds with one stone and wear magic find?
Holy kitten. I’m rolling a warrior.
Hate all you want, the reality is, magic find affects performance.
Proof please. Thanks.
Can we get this made into a sticky?
Basically. What I am looking for is what I have for dungeons/ WvWvW in PvE. A Static Group/Guild that does sPvP.
Once I get comfortable with sPvP, I’d like to move onto tPvP and pPvP
Send me a PM if you’d like to get together and do some matches. Gauge my skill/abilities/build, whatever. I’d like a professionals opinion on what matters for sPvP and how to bettermyself at it.
I do not trashtalk/ say “pwnt” or call people “noobs” Its not my playstyle. I do however, enjoy being outnumbered, while holding a pedastal while my team captures the other points.
(edited by Kashien.6278)
I’d really like to get in on this.
I’m usually a PvE fan, but last weekend, when I started sPvP that friday night, I was R12 PVP by sunday.
Its official. I’m addicted. I love the sPvP.
I’d love to do more of these, like, every day. But I’m restricted to sPvP on the weekends, because I do WvWvW on the daily with the guild.
I am on Saanctum of Raal server. I love playing a Guardian/Engineer for sPvP. Although I can pick other classes. I just prefer those ones.
Yeah ,it was just me and a thief, I was just dicking around in pvp, usually im a survivor on my guardian, can survive nearly any 1v1 encounter. but this thief killed me in literally 1 second flat, he activated his quickness, threw the daggers really fast, i was downed, he stomped me while under that same quickness buff , and i was dead in less than a second it seemed.
I just want to know how dancing dagger did 12k damage to me. or whatever the thief threw at me.
(In walks the most interesting man in world, yes he plays a Guardian)
“I don’t always use Leap of Faith, but when I do, it never sends me flying past my target.”
I usually use it for faster transportation, but it always manages to hit something within range, even if i didnt have it targeted.
Also, the title of this thread is very misleading. Says “Show me my magic find” not,
“Anet, please allow us to view everyones gear so we can judge them and then decide whether or not we want them in this party so that we can spend 30 minutes arguing, by which time the dungeon may have or may have not been completed, but wasnt because we are so busy arguing over which stats we prefer to have, and which stats we dont want to have. There goes 2/5 of our party members, time to post another LFM in Map chat”
No spider, it wouldnt be nice to have gear viewable. What if someone is switching specs, and they are trying to attain gear for that spec, so they have a …. orgy of different attributes. How is that fair? Are you going to deny him tokens because of his gear set up? When he has to do that dungeon to get the gear he needs?
What if its not intentional. What if they dont know that MF is not the best gear. Some people are new to MMORPG. So your automatically assuming that they are intentionally dragging down the party now.
Wow.
