Solving megaserver guild grouping problem

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Titus.4285

Titus.4285

I guess this would solve some of the problem, but to me it doesn’t seem very user friendly tbh. Also, it’s not only Guild events that suffers from the current server system.

Arranging community events is also a major issue. It’s as good as impossible with the current system. You would have to know someone on the server you want to join, then get them to join your party, then start clicking “join” untill you get in.
Just not very user friendly.

For me, the answer is simple. Look to gw1’s district system. Server generation worked more or less just like the current megaservers, with one exception: you could choose which server you wanted to join from a dropdown menu.
If you could implement a que system on top of such a system, you would treat most, if not all, of the current issues.

What would be even better, is if we the players could open up new districts. Now before you say that would wreck the entire server system, I am certain such a feature could be added in a smart way.
E.g. what if at the bottom of the “district list”/drop-down menu had another option “Request new district (X/Y)”. X=current players signed up for a new district. Y=players required, which could be fairly hight, e.g. about 50-70 players.
The moment enough players have requests a new district, those players will automatically be moved to a new instance of that map. Such, you would practically do the same as you propose above, but without going to difficult processes: log-out to character selection, and invite 70 people by typing each person’s name or drag-and-drop from friends list? (I really hope you realise how non-user friendly that sounds).

You’ll simply spread the word to your guild, community via Twitter, map chat, whatever: “okay guys. We’re requesting a new district now” > and BOOM! There you go.

P.S. to keep players from abusing the feature by being idle in the “que” for a new district, you could add a 10-15 minute timer from when you click “request” to when you have to click it again.

Learned a neat little not so secret trick to for one way WP cost:

1. WP from the city closest to your destination.
2. Do what ever you intend to do.
3. When done, go to PVP or WVW lobby.
4. Take the Lion’s ArchVigil’s Keep portal.

It’s one extra click that can save some folks a lot over time.

Suggestion: Downed State Revamp

Does everyone agree that our downed state should be the next major update for Engineers?

I think everyone here will agree at this point that not only is the downed state for engis a bit behind the rest but that it’s pretty much a guaranteed “kill us now” feature for every mob in the game. (save for pre-level 5 mobs) It’s been how many years now and we’ve been very patient waiting for our downed state skills to be improved so that they are useful.

At the very least they could give our Booby Trap a big upgrade so that it does as much damage as the Phantasmal Rogue. And change Throw Junk to Throw Explosives. I would even ask if we could have both of these skills be affected by the Explosives trait line so that damage would be high enough to allow us to Rally more often.

Please + and reply if you agree.

What usually happens is:
1. Human females get an beautiful armor designed.
2. Then the human males get the design but without the skimpiness.
3. These are then given to norn and sylvari in the same designs (male/female).
4. Then charr and asura get a simplified version of the male design.

Two of the most popular girly asura armors are the Twlight Arbor light set and the festive outfit. I think we can use those as a guide as to how girly light armor can be made. Medium and Heavy is a different story though.

I’ll use the gem store armor for ideas, although I wouldn’t want them to change it now because some of them aren’t that bad, my only reason for doing this is so see if there can be more feminine versions of the armor if anet wanted to.

Aetherblade Heavy: The human female version is very shapely. Asura, as usual, uses the human male version of this skin. Maybe by adding a belt (seen in the female one) or some of the nice lace decoration for the boots would help make this a bit different for female asura.

Aetherblade Medium: I see nothing skimpy about this on human female, they’re actually covered up more than usual. Maybe the female one could have had that skirt-shape (with the leggings underneath, of course) instead of the male model of it.

Aetherblade Light: Only really the midriff shown here on human female, easily covered up. Again, an asura female with the skirt shape and leggings/tights would look pretty cute.

Braham’s Heavy Armor: I guess that the female asura showing a bare chest is down to personal taste and opinion. I myself would never use this armor on my asura because it makes me feel uncomfortable, but to each their own. A version of this for asura female which covers the chest and maybe adds a little fur decoration would be fine. It is only the chest piece of this armor which makes it look quite feminine even on the human female.

Magitech Medium Armor Skin: This skin is one of my favourite medium armors on asura so i’d hate them to change it. But for the purposes of this post i’d suggest making this more feminine by adding the little medallion decoration that the human female has around the waist, and the horizontal stripes on the chest. Maybe make the head piece more delicate.

Phoenix Light Armor Skin: This armor, personally, really quite irks me. I see no reason why asura couldn’t have any sort of feather decoration. The shape for this armor on asura is one they’ve used a number of times in game and it really lacks creativity and imagination, but that is my personal opinion. To make it more feminine for those of us who wish for more difference in the male/female asura armor i’d suggest a bit of the feather decoration down the back of the pants (no need to show bare leg) and the gloves and shoulders to be exactly the same as the human female. Those frills are amazing, and i’m not quite sure why that would be much of a problem.

Phalanx Heavy-Armor Skin: I use this one on my female asura guardian, utterly love it (apart for the clipping). On human female it is very skimpy, on asura female it would be nice if we had the belt decoration and the swirly frill on the front.

Trickster’s Light-Armor Skin: Not really very skimpy even on human female. Larger, more exaggerated shoulders like the human version would be welcome. Maybe a more shaped skirt too, in the same shape of the festive/twilight arbor skirts.

Viper’s Medium-Armor Skin: Make the pants more like tights/leggings (i’m not saying nice, tight shapely legs to be shown off – not a chance) and the top slightly more flared to give if that more feminine look.

Strider’s Medium Armor Skin & Incarnate Light Armor Skin: Both these skins are gorgeous and I plan on buying both in the future for my female asuras. The detail is lovely. The only way to make these a bit more feminine, as i’ve mentioned above, is to flare the chest pieces slightly to give them that dress/skirt look. I suggest these often because the two most feminine looks you can get is either girly skirts/dresses or tight pants, and we should only be interested in the former for asura.

Rampart Heavy Armor Skin: No idea what to say about this. The shoulders could be made bigger and more decorative, but that is more of a suggestion for asura male and female. This armor lacks much difference even between the human male and female versions (that is actually a good thing) so it looks pretty much the same on all races.

I define girly on asura as dresses/skirts because the other option for feminine clothes is figure hugging shapely outfits which I don’t believe any of us would like to see on asura. Once again, the armors listed here don’t need changing and i’m not saying they do, i’m simply throwing ideas around on how, if anet was to do so, to make a female version of the armor a bit different.

It’s true, I’m not dangerous. But these golems are!

I like how WvW does it. I have the AoE loot set to “L” (for Loot), the loot bags drop at my feet, I hit “L” and collect them. Nice, clean and tidy. If your inventory is full you still see the bags on the ground by you and it’s pretty obvious.

I believe WvW loot system could be further improved. I can’t count how many times I’ve gone head-long into a rival zerg with our’s and tagged mobs left right and centre, and like most people, yes I eventually get beat-up on. No one is around to revive you and here you see all these loot bags piling up around you for the kill credit that you just got for tagging the mobs that helped kill you.

The loot doesn’t sit there forever, I believe it’s something like 2mins before it’s gone. What could really help is if the loot that dropped for you (ie. that you earned) could respawn back at the waypoint at the same time as you do.

We want to let you know that the ability to build your precursor will not be in our upcoming Feature Pack. The way progression and rewards work in Guild Wars 2 have changed quite a bit since we initially talked about that feature, and our main horizontal progression systems are about to get some additional updates in the upcoming feature pack. Because of that, we are looking into several ways to integrate building your precursor into our new updated reward and progression systems we’re working on, which is requiring additional development time and iteration. As always, we’ll share details on this system once it’s far enough along in production we’re ready to discuss it.

Still no Armory for GW2?

I’m thankful that there is no “gear check” in GW2. IMO ‘gear’ doesn’t determine how good a player is at their character/spec and tends to encourage a sort of ‘all or nothing’ mentality with dungeons (zerk only cof, players kicking players from dungeons for running condition builds).

BUT I would like a sort of armory where I could show others what my character currently looks like and maybe my achievements. Nothing more than what can be seen in-game, but available on the web or a smart phone. Another option would be the ability to turn ‘detailed achievements/armor’ on/off.

My 18 characters are waiting for outfits from GW1 like Tuxedos! WE GOT DWAYNA! =D

The problem with the LS updates was that you felt super rushed to see everything and get everything done, because you knew that after 2 weeks or so, it would all be gone forever. To me and many others, that’s just stressful. I don’t want to feel stressed and rushed when playing a game.

I really like the ‘alliance’ idea. Our guild is only six strong; just friends and family. We mainly run the various game components together and have made a couple of quirky offshoot guilds (one guild just of engineers, for example), but obviously, also small. If we could align with a larger guild to assist with events, WvW, PvP, etc and not have to leave the cozy confines of our own guild, we’d be ecstatic to be able to help out. I can only imagine other small guilds signing up to help out the larger guilds with these various tasks.

Narrative Lessons From 15 Months of Scarlet

Greetings and salutations.

With Season 1 of the Living Story drawing to a close, it seems appropriate to offer review and reflection of everything that has come thus far. Sadly, there is much to consider, as the brand new path trod by Anet has many missteps and mishaps along the way.

Rather than talk about individual flaws, I thought it might be best to take a stab at the overall writing style of the Living Story and the narrative flaws it continues to exhibit. Plot holes come and go, individual complaints will always remain, but the best way to help Season 2 is to consider the pitfalls of Season 1 from a writing and gaming perspective. And so, I thought I would offer up a bit of constructive criticism in silly infographic format.

For your consideration, Fifteen Lessons From Fifteen Months of Scarlet Briar.

Kasmeer fits her roll. Rather well, I think. She’s an air-headed noble still, for all her family’s lost their titles. She hasn’t adapted to everyone else not being ‘beneath’ her, and it’s reflected in her speech. She does as well with Jory as she does, simply because rose colored glasses are involved. Everyone else is still just that, ‘everyone else’ – non important. Just due to how she was raised. She should ‘grow out of it’ as her character progresses and she adapts to being a ‘commoner.’

As for Braham’s ‘uh huh’ convo with Tiami, this doesn’t have anything to do with his intellect. Anyone that has a much younger brother or sister, or even relative should understand this byplay well. The child just keeps rambling at you, to the point where you’re only listening with one ear, not really paying attention. The ‘uh huh’ is an absent way of indulging them (they don’t feel ignored and you aren’t bored senseless). Parents do it all the time, when their children start rambling on and they are doing something else (like making dinner).

Spouses do it too, but that tends to end badly for the non-attentive party. chuckle

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Ok, here is my take on what happens after the patch goes live.

  • You log in character # 1 and it has 30 (non-starter) dyes that get registered as ACCOUNT wide.
  • You log in character # 2 and the 10 (non starter) dyes that Char # 1 did NOT have get registered as ACCOUNT wide (now 40 account wide dyes registered. Also, Char 2 had 5 additional dyes that Char 1 already registered…..5 unidentified dyes appear in Char 2 inventory (or mail if inventory is full?).
  • Log in Character # 3 and no new dyes get registered, but 25 of the dyes already ACCOUNT wide were duplicated on this character…..25 unidentified dyes generated.
  • Log in Character # 4 has 10 more dyes for the ACCOUNT wide registration (now total of 50 that ANY character can use) and 10 others that were already registered….10 more unidentified dyes.
  • ETC…ETC…

Take unidentified dyes and either try to sell them (at a MUCH Lower price since this is going to GLUT the UID dye market).

- OR -

Open all of them and register the new ones and take the duplicates to the Mystic Flusher (or sell).

This is to eliminate all duplicate dyes. So not only do you get to keep one – accessible to your own characters, but sell the other one. Not every player would have various dyes unlocked. And you’re not taking in to account of new players coming in. So what’s the main complaint?. It’s a win – win situation.

To be honest, I really agree with the idea of giving one Unidentified Dye for each character that have the same dye as another, but, I really think that the dye should come with a relative rarity …

I mean, I have 7 character lv.80 and 1 lv.30, I have Abyss dye in almost all of them, I dont think its fair that I might get a lot of Fine or Masterwork dyes while some people that knew about the chinese server, and bought lot of 50c Fine dyes, get a major chance in getting rare dyes …

In other words: PLEASE make the Unidentified Dyes that will be given in this way RARITY BOUND, I mean, if you got a RARE dye in another character, you get a Unidentified Dye that contains a RARE dye, and the same occurs to masterwork and fine, that way people that invested a lot in rare dyes will not feel so displeased about this update, ty.

Gallery of all ingame dyes

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: dulfy.1493

dulfy.1493

Hey everyone, with the release of the dyes API, it has become alot easier to find dyes to match your outfit. However, I find most applications of them are rather abstract for me to use personally. I decided to make a gallery using preview pics of six armor sets (2 per armor type) of all dyes ingame currently (427 dyes) to help those who are having trouble visualizing them like me. Hopefully you will find it useful to some extent!

Gallery: http://dulfy.net/2013/12/24/gw2-dye-gallery/ (fairly image heavy so may take a few seconds to load completely)

How are dyes organized and sorted?

This is a tricky topic and I went back and forth on alot of ways to do this. I tried sorting by HSV, HSL etc but none of them were satisfactory. I really wanted to group similar colored dyes together but none of these worked. I could do this manually by eyeballing it but 427 dyes is alot and some classifications can get arbitrary. Finally, I decided to stick to the way the game sorted by hues and go in the reverse order (light -> dark) under each hue.

http://i.imgur.com/sqIt5LS.jpg

This is far from perfect and some dyes are located weirdly. An example would be the Cyanide dye from the Toxic Dye kit. It is classified as purple hue when it looks completely green.

How do I use this?

There are two ways you can go about. If you know the name of a dye you are looking for, expand the dye list and search for that dye name using ctrl + f. This will tell you which hue it is under and you can expand that hue specifically to search for it again.

If you don’t know the name of a dye but have a general idea of the color you want (i.e. something red), you can expand the red hue dyes and look for something you like visually. As I mentioned earlier, the way the game sort dyes by hues is a bit weird so there are red dyes under other hues as well.

How do I compare 2 or more dyes?

The best way to do this is to open an image in a separate tab (middle mouse button for example) and then flip through the tabs to compare the dyes & images you have picked.

What armor sets are used?

Six armor sets are used per dye, 2 sets per armor type (light, medium, heavy). 3/6 are popular gemstore armor sets and the other 3 are armor sets that I picked which I think is more fitting of the armor material (i.e. cloth, leather, metal). This should hopefully give you a good idea of how the same dye look across different armor sets

How do I find this gallery?

It is easy to find it now since it is directly linked here but in the future, you can access it by going to the Galleries & Catalog menu and look under GW2 other galleries. Here you will find other galleries that might of interest as well such as backpieces and permanent finishers.

http://i.imgur.com/XB9zubz.jpg

The site is under going redesign and revamp by the end of Jan, 2014 so hopefully it will be even easier to find stuff once the new site format launches!

Happy Holidays and feel free to put down any suggestions etc

I would like to see a whole new type of cosmetic gear that doesn’t rely on completing events or the luck of the drop to acquire. My personal idea would be something like this.

Create sets of gear. Maybe one for each zone in the game. Give each zone a specific named spawn, or “unique” monster, that is guaranteed to drop at piece of this equipment(or an item specific to that set that can be converted to a specific piece of your choice like chest, shoulders, legs, etc).

Rather than having it spawn within a set window that can be tracked and at a specific location give it a wide window and make it considerably rare to spawn. Also give it multiple locations within the zone that it’s capable of spawning in and only let it be in one location at a time until someone kills it – similar to the skritt thief chest. Make the creature either veteran or a little tougher so a lone character exploring the zone has a chance to take it down.

Essentially it would be something that is hard but not impossible to farm. Somewhat rare to find. Something you could take on your own. And it would encourage exploration and people returning to various zones.

Did I mention Order-based unique dyes were hella sexy?

Well they are.

But I think another thing I’d like to see as a reward for advancing with your chosen Order is a vendor at each HQ that sells 3-4 of the existing colors of dyes for karma. However, buying them doesn’t give you a bottle to click – it directly unlocks it in that character’s dye panel.

No using them in the Mystic Forge, no flooding the market with them – the reason they are there is to let that specific character represent their Order by always having the Order’s preferred colors in their palette.

This simple benefit that could be granted much earlier in the course of ranking up in your Order. Quite separate from those wonderful unique dyes you get towards the end of the journey.
