For traits, this helps keep damage high while maintaining some survivability.
For my weapons i mainly use a staff with an axe dagger off hand.
For my utility skills i take
The one that gives a bunch of conditions, the one that causes massive bleeding, the one that causes the conditions of one foe to spread to multiple foes, and plague for my elite.
This thread is pretty awesome for tips (wish they’d sticky it)

Tha’s fantastic. i thgouht that they had allready made a thread about it, but was honsetly to lazy to search.
I would really recommend checking that out.
I would do as the above poster said and partake in dynamic events.
On top of this you should always do the daily and monthly achievements, as they not only give nice exp, but also varius loot.
The most important tip i can probably give you is that you don’t wanna try to powerlevel. enjoy the game, and in doing so slowly reach level 80.
Building tanky should keep you from instantly dying.
But being tanky won’t make you invinceible so being melee you’ll carefully need to gauge the situations and how you should deal with them, and because melee is not always good for the situation at hand it’s always useful to have some ranged weapons as a swapping set.
More advice.
Get gathering tools as fast as you can.
Not only will you have the materials for when you decide to begin crafting, but it will also be a great way to earn experience on the way there.
typing “/wiki” in the game opens up the guild wars 2 wiki. from there you can access information and more tips.
It is highly recommended to go to all the waypoints and vistas as you walk by them. This way you won’t have to travel between so many waypoints when you are trying to complete an area.
Since this is a fairly new game I was thinking that it would be nice to have a thread where people can just post random advice, to help all levels of players.
Please keep the advice you post constructive and free of bias.
(although they can be geared towards specific classes.)
Examples of good advice:
“Pressing Alt and clicking on the mini-map will set a custom waypoint which can be easily seen from the mini-map in the bottom right.”
“When playing a Thief always attempt to do a back stab when you leave stealth. This not only offers great damage, but it will also mean that then enemy must turn around to hit you, in most instances.”
Examples of bad advice:
“When playing a thief just spam 2 and you’ll win for sure because they are an easy class.”
“don’t pick ‘class x’ because they are bad and you will just die all the time.”
Remember that the advice can be super simple or very complicated.
Nearly all advice will help at least someone.
It’s like there are 4 times as many mesmers as there are of any other class.
