Question regarding gifting and repeat items

Hello everyone,

I apologize if this question has been asked before, but I’ve checked the FAQ and been looking all over for the answer to this question before I spend my gems, and haven’t found the answer yet.

Skrittmas is coming, and I want to give shinies to my friends. The thing is, I don’t know every gem purchase that they’ve made, and I don’t want to go asking if they have this or that item, because it will spoil the surprise. What I want to know is: if, say, my friend has a certain outfit or mini, will the gem store notify me before the gift is sent that they already have that item unlocked on their account, or will my gems be wasted? I know there is an issue with the gem store not warning people about bank slot purchases, but I didn’t know if that extended to other items.

Thanks in advance for your help/answers. Merry Skrittmas and Happy Wintersday!

Hey guys, can I have a word?

I am not saying you have, but I dont think being angry to the point of calling names and such is justified. Maybe I should have been clearer with the toxicity level.

Yeah, I imagine the point of this thread is not to tell people that they don’t have a right to complain or to express an opinion. People have a right to express disappointment and anger in a reasonable way, but they do not have the right to do what you described, e.g. telling people to uninstall their games, calling names, etc., especially if they’re just trying to get clarification, ask a question or give an opinion of their own. You can be frustrated without taking it out on other people – in fact, if you’re so angry, you should take it out on the Mordrem! Anet even said it was their fault in the first place. XP

The latest patch seems to have fixed it! Thank you!!

Also, completing that quest as Ted the Big-Nosed Plane was pretty hysterical. XD

Has anyone found a fix for this? I have tried this mission three different times, and all three times, the determined buff won’t come off Serentine, even when all the guards are defeated.

Hello everyone!

Sorry to bump up an old topic, but I have an update on this. A friend of mine is in the Priory (Sylvari Warrior) and I tagged along for all his quests in an attempt to get the dialogue to override my placement in the Vigil. Not sure if it was the different races (I don’t think it was, since race doesn’t factor into the story), but there was no option to fix it once the override had been done, so I was starting to get very frustrated. I even started the Lv.42 tribal race quests with him as the host (he had picked Hylek, which Norns can also do) and THAT didn’t ask for an override, either! Disheartened, I ended up getting the achievement for Vigil instead of Priory…. but the moment I started my own racial quest (picking Grawl), I was back in the Priory!

So, this is what I’ve learned:

-When this override happens, it seems to be completely unfixable until you finish the series of quests relating to the Vigil and get the achievement (though I would need to test with a character of the same race to make sure of that). Once you get the achievement, you’re returned to your original order.

- I can still get Priory armor/weapons from the instance and I am unable to get Vigil armor or buy vigil weapons in the instance (this has been true even when I was doing the Vigil storyline).

So it seems that the only thing it affects are the quests in that part of the storyline and the achievement you get at the end.

Hope that helps!

Hello everyone,

I’ve run into a bug with my Norn necromancer while questing that I’m hoping I can get a fix for. I was questing with a friend of mine (a Norn mesmer) who joined the Vigil, while I had joined the Priory. I had just finished Silent Warfare (so I had picked the Priory and was following the questline) when I got my letter from my mentor after doing Setting the Stage. My friend was hosting the instance, and I agreed to progess the story. Unfortunately, the letter I got was from the Vigil, and it sent me to “A Fragile Peace” instead of the appropriate Priory quest. I did NOT want to join the Vigil, but now I’ve been forced onto the Vigil Path despite having made the choice to be part of the Priory earlier.

Any help would be appreciated!
