Hi guys, just finished one path ends again and thought I noticed something though might have misheard or misunderstood.
At the end when you talk to Livia again you make mention of Kormir but she doesn’t seem to know who that is. Why not? With all the Abbadon stuff turning up is it possible that Abbadon still exists and did something like consuming Kormir? Just wondering but perhaps I completely got the wrong impression!
Also, apologies if this has been covered. Didn’t find a topic about it when I looked

Hi guys, working on Astralaria and I can see I need a load of tier 4 drops. Got way too many tier 1-3 so was curious, is it more efficient to just buy the materials such as fangs on tp and sell my low tier items or should I mystic forge them into better?
Cheers in advance!

As the title suggests, which spec are you most excited about? If there is already a thread such as this feel free to mention it! I’m just curious really now that we have seen a little more information about traits and skills. I know that there will likely be plenty of balancing to come etc but as it stands…

Personally quite looking forward to the Scourge as having mostly played necro in the past it will be interesting to move a little from being a selfish class to some team support and the impact that could have on higher end PVE.

Soulbeast could be interesting too for the versatility that it might allow.

Just curious what others think!

I’m going to note firstly that I am an average player so do bear this in mind as someone with more experience may disagree…
In short I find that Glint is really useful both for condi and for power when either alone or in small groups (fractal/skirmish wvw). You provide lots of boons to yourself and others, can unload a load of conditions with and vulnerability, and the heal can be a get out of jail free card.
In larger groups Glint becomes less useful though such as in zergs or coordinated teams because these boons will be covered by others. At this point I find Mallyx and Jalis to be really useful as they provide things others don’t (stone ritual/pulsing resistance).
In projectile heavy areas though, Ventari is a lifesaver! If you want to do damage, sure there are other classes that can do more and yes torment is more useful against people rather than trash but you can do well.
If you have a chronomancer with you Shiro becomes weaker as the quickness from them can free up other stances to take.
Revs have a lot of versatility and it depends a lot on party composition really but for solo I do find Glint strong, and in groups you have other options. (Turns out it wasn’t that short )

Ascended armor stats for hybrid?

Another thing a lot of people look over is hardening persistence. You get 240 armor + 7% dmg reduction out of vengeful hammers or embrace the darkness pumps you up 500 armor. Both of those increases in armor factor to either a 15 or 30 point increase in power or condition damage depending on the use of a tuning crystal or sharpening stone.

People overlook Hardening Persistence because Radiant Revival is 2X better.

Matter of opinion. I disagree. However, I tend to roam solo on condi rev.

It’s only a matter of opinion if you never intend to revive anyone, which makes a player average at best or I suppose a solo roamer. Either way that explains why alot of people overlook Hardening Persistence because not alot solo roam.

I do like Radiant Revival when small scale in WvW or duo-ing especially with someone glassy. Not a huge zerg player. That being said when roaming solo and trying to pick 1v1s (rare as those may be!) I tend to prefer Hardening Persistence due to its self reliance. Easy enough to switch out when grouping.

Interesting, so I’m guessing you find extra toughness worth the sacrifice to of power for survivability. The reason why I didn’t opt for vicious lacerations was that I thought that it only affected direct damage not condition and that when using the mace combo the ferocity would be more useful… will take advice on board though of course

Hi guys, feel I’m a little late to the party(!) but despite the revenant’s flaws, especially in condi, I’m loving the playstyle. Not “optimal” I know but similar to you I’ve been toying with a hybrid build. I can’t currently afford Ascended armour/weapons but something I’m working towards.
Noticed that while this is stronger on condition & duration while maintaining power, it does have less armour than those posted here (but thought with the upkeep trait and protection access it would be ok) and I know ferocity could do with some love.

Anyway, thought I’d ask other hybrid style players what you thought

So yet another question about help me choose a class (sorry in advance!) but I have not found something that answers me.

To put into context I have leveled each class to it’s elite spec but I’m looking for one to focus on and become really good at.

What I would like is a class that is good for dungeons/fractals (raids eventually) as well as having some decent 1v1 capabilities against players (mostly wvw setting).
For team fights such as fractals etc I would like to bring support and feel indispensable.

Now my favourite personally for the most part has been the necro which is largely what I consider my main but lacks the team utility I would ideally like.
The revenant I loved thematically but I’ve become a little disillusioned with it since the repeated downgrades.

The 3 I am considering to focus on are warrior (good team support, but damage seems weaker), mesmer (excellent team support and love the portal and reflects, apparently good 1v1, but solo damage pretty weak), or thief (fast and mobile damage – like the theme and weapon skils, good 1v1 I’ve heard but never managed!, but team utility seems less).

tldr: A class that is good for solo and team play utility mostly pve but can handle other players in duels.

(open to other ideas other than the 3 mentioned and appreciate the feedback guys!)

Hey guys,
Been on a bit of an alt-oholic bender and now looking at my thief for wvw (still have not decided which class to focus). Anyway having watch game of thrones again and remembering Silvio, decided to look at my thief again
I’ve noticed both on forums and when playing that guardians (medi) are painfully strong against d/p due to their blocks mostly. Considering this (would consider s/d instead of d/p but do enjoy d/p for fighting others) would the amount of boon ripping and some condition work against them as well as generally against others?

I know as a rule of thumb people want to keep sb but was looking at p/d as an alternative for kiting and range.

tl;dr does d/p p/d 04604

EDIT: was hoping that the 60% crit chance +7% from behind/side when stealing +20% fury would make up for the lack of hidden killer when opening
Cheers guys

Hey guys,

Quick (2) question(s) – when creating a build for whichever class:
What Power do you aim for in a power build as a minimum?
What Condition Damage do you aim for as a condition build as a minimum?

I know certain instances differ such as might reliance on d/d eles but was looking to see if there was a rule of thumb rather than a set rule, just to give some guidance when I try new builds or combinations.

Cheers!

Kholem.6092

So it’s been a while (been a little tied up!) but I’ve looked at making some changes based on what you suggested. Had to have a re-jig of things to keep the stats up. Undead runes were used to boost both power and condition damage due to the Death Trait. Moving out of Death I have taken a look at the Adventurer runes instead.

I have added food buffs too

The aim of the signet was to use it when in scepter mode with the stronger condition damage, activate the might and switch to power to make use of the damage modifiers. That said if the signet burst is no use then I will take it out.

Regarding weapons I am not necessarily set on scepter (could change to staff maybe?) and a little torn between axe and dagger (life force and retal, vs healing and immobilise)

I’ve tried to take on board your suggestion regarding more life force generation by making use of the axe mostly for skill 3.

Is this looking better?

So I had a thought (perhaps done to the death or known to be rubbish!) for might stacking combining brawler runes and the power trait giving might on heal.

Would this be a good idea?
Regarding armour types I have already got ascended trinkets and assassin armour hence their inclusion… open to suggestions on these too if it would help, just giving my current armour.

With a few blast finishers and various healing options I figured this could be strong on sustained with heal and might switching from having to go fully defensive to bursting.

This is for roaming/solo/2 man groups by the way.

Worth a look or just stick to what is known to work?
Cheers guys!

Kholem.6092

Hey Flow cheers, really appreciate it. The Undead runes and single piece of Dire were to keep the armour up over 2000 if I felt like moving points into Spite instead of Death. I will look into Scavenging. Was not sure whether or not Unholy Sanctuary was any good but I guess that answers that, in which case I could move the 4 points from death to spite.
The Signet combo was largely intended to add lots of condis for the % bonus when switching into DS prior to a power burst with the might from signet to help. If too situational will look at removing it though.
Yeah Life force is lacking… thought about a power based weapon instead of staff but the marks have been very useful, especially against thieves.

Thanks again flow

Kholem.6092

Hey guys,
Theorycrafting a build and was curious of what you made of it before shelling out for the gear. This is ideally for roaming or small groups as I know power is the way for zergs.

As condition cleanse is rife, I have opted out of a focus on condition duration but instead condition damage, but I always seem to struggle finishing someone off (could be a l2p issue of course!) before they run off.

So the aim is to keep up condition pressure and keep them defensive, then when ready for bursting, use signet to cover them in conditions and turn to deathshroud for hard hitting direct damage and the teleport if they run.

As for crit chance, whilst a little low, with fury from deathshroud for the finale i figured that would be enough (though ferocity in this setup is weak I know)

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fRIQNArYWjc00Yb5NG3webiehS6Z4EiXoCgojgE4dB-TlCEABQcCAKVJowHBQbgK6ACS5XP7PYs6PAY+7hDBgzPAAA-w

This is without food as I figured if using this and wanted to up condi damage or direct damage it is still high enough to manage either way.

What are your thoughts? Anything (or everything!) I could change?

Cheers all!

Hey jackaljag, I may well jump onto my ele if needs be for a dungeon but in the end (despite recommendations from players and my guild!) I will focus on my engi. May not be the most optimal choice but feel more ‘locked in’ for ele based on rations for each weapon set.
Mostly go necro for WvW, but just for fun, blowing up things everywhere is keeping my interest for the time being!

So far my favourite races have been Charr and Norn, they just look bad-kitten! Have not been a huge fan of humans and heavy armour looks awesome on the aforementioned two.
That being said, more for a personal canon, got to go human on this one – play as the decedent of my GW1 main who fought alongside Jalis and helped kill Mallyx – feels like a good choice to have my Revenant tied to the other historical characters. Will keep the surname too

Kholem.6092

Hi guys, first post despite having stalked the forums for a while! I know that this question has been asked before (multiple times in fact) but with all the changes and personal preference I am still stuck between the titular two.

So for context – I have an 80 necro/thief/guard/ele/engi what I am looking for is to focus on either the engi or the ele though (both of these are recently level 80). I enjoy both but don’t have the time to hone my skills on both. I’m not much of a pvper and not yet really delved into fractals yet. My focus is dungeoning and wvw small squads mostly or roaming.

I’ve read numerous posts and having recently gotten to 80 (safe to get them up to 80 as with HoT who knows what might happen to them!)

So incessant rambling aside -

Elementalist – love the fast paced nature of d/d, darting about, causing mayhem, love the conjures. Staff I care little for but I appreciate its usefulness in dungeons as an example.

Engineer – looks awesome, love the theme, explosions (SO MANY EXPLOSIONS) and bag of tricks for any situation. Did I mention explosions?

It really boils down to the theme and style of one, compared to the zipping fast pace of the other. So finally after a wall of text (and thanks for reading) I ask two questions which might help me decide finally!

1. Would you be happier with an engi or ele in the party (skill being equal)? In this hypothetical question we may do a couple of random dungeons followed by wvw, so same class for both.

2. Which do you find more fun personally and is it just me or does the engineer feel a little clunky?

Tl;dr- Engi or Ele focus on Dungeon/Wvw Roam/Wvw zerg to a lesser extent

Cheers guys! Much appreciated!

EDIT: Sorry if this is in the wrong forum!
