they totally remove engi from tpvp with last patch. first elixir s, now elixir r. having elixir r now is like having one empty utility slot. engi not needed anymore. necros destroying everyone as condi builds. elixir r was one of the reasons why engi was valuble. also shield 5 got killed. yes now you can make hundred useless builds with turret stunbreakers and other “buffs”. personally i was never crying on forums about previous nerfs but now i just say goodbye. i am boored that anet nerfing every valuble engi build. GG

How do they remove us from tPvP? From my personal experience, I rock it in tPvP. And I have noticed many other engineers are playing well too.

I’ve been playing Engi since the launch. I just thought I’d take sometime to thank you guys for all the hardwork you guys have put to improving us. I know you get a lot of hate posts from us, but I definitely think you guys are headed in the right direction with this.

Elixir C Bug?

Drink Elixir C, converting all conditions into random boons.
5 Second Duration.

I don’t understand the 5 second duration. Does it mean that we are supposed to convert all conditions to boons for 5 seconds after I drink the elixir?

If so, this is definitely broken and should get looked at.

So I logged into gw2 on my engi today after a few months break and my first venture back out to wvw … 3 seconds later i was dead. Am i missing something or new gear that i am un aware off ? My engi is in full TA rabid exotics and rampager jewelry….

I’m not 100% sure on your armor for WvW as I spend most of my time doing Tpvp, but I think you’re toughness and vitality is low.

Are you sure the cripple is working with Net Turret? The wiki page for Knee Shot says the trait doesn’t work with the turret.

Yep. Go into the Heart of the Mists. Set your turret up. Fire a shot at the golem, and you’ll see the cripple go to work.

Grenade Barrage

Was grenade barrage nerfed or just the “Grenade” skill in the grenade kit?

I copy and pasted the Nerf from Nov. 14. It was nerfed in PvP.

•Grenades •The projectile speed of all grenades has been increased by 10-15%.
•Grenade: This skill’s damage has been decreased by 10% in PvP only.
•Shrapnel Grenade: This skill’s damage has been decreased by 15% in PvP only.
•Freeze Grenade: This skill’s damage has been decreased by 10% in PvP only.
•Grenade Barrage: This skill’s damage has been decreased by 10% in PvP only. It also now works correctly with the Explosives trait Grenadier while underwater.

No trait-related procs have ever worked with any attacks from turrets. No procs ever will. They are considered pets/allies, not your own attacks.

This lack of proc effect is seen in the Summon Warband or Mistfire Wolf Elite skills as well.

If that’s the case, they need to fix Knee Shot’s compatibility with the net turret so that I don’t get the notion that it’s supposed to function.

I love Engineer because it's not faceroll.

In regards to the original post,

The engineer is awesome, but you have to admit that 30% is a huge nerf to an auto attack for grenades.

The BIGGEST problem we have with engineers right now, is that a lot of traits and skills are broken and aren’t functioning together as they’re supposed to, so we are performing at a much lower capacity. Instead of modifying what Engineers are capable of, how about we get what they were originally intended to do, to work.

I like the new effects to the Sitting Duck trait, but it’s not functioning properly. If you use your net turret you do NOT get the vulnerability, yet if you use the Knee Shot trait, the cripple works fine with the net turret.

This needs a rework on two things. Formula 409 makes cleaning conditions easier so change your potions out to other ones you can use. Elixir C is not needed. Use S or R instead especially since with R you can make a rez field just before dying so you can get back up right before being downed.

If this for pvp I would think being invis when immobilized would help more.

  1. I like to keep Elixir C around because if I get slapped with a million conditions, I can throw this on and I’ll get a 70% boon duration added.
  1. I don’t like the invis in pvp because going invis takes away from capturing/defending a point. With the 3 percent Protective Shield from a critical hit, you get 5 seconds due to the boon duration bonus.

I think I wrote this in the original post, but I like to keep Elixir C’s slot open to change in any given match. Sometimes there’s a situation that requires the net turret or other elixirs.

So how does this compare to the old super elixir bunker? Still viable or just a surivivable confusion role more or less?

I wasn’t playing much back when the old build was going around I guess (or I wasn’t checking forums then much). I find myself doing a lot more than just surviving. I can hold, capture, and control points.

Personally, I would say it’s still viable.

So this build is basically a variation on the Tankcat.

Sorry, not trying to sound like a jerk, but it is becoming pretty apparent that the bunker build is the only viable thing left for the engineer. Which pisses me off to no end.

I don’t think you’re a jerk, but I do think that we’re stuck on certain builds with the nerfs we’ve received. I’m just working with what we got. And this is what I came up with and have been able to use as a solid build for a good 6 weeks.

I’ve been experimenting with many builds, but I’ve found this to be the only build that I run on tournaments effectively. I’ve never recorded when I play, but I’ll look into doing that sometime in the future to show you guys what it looks like in play.

*I do use a gaming mouse with like 16 extra buttons. Razor Naga 2012 to be exact. It just makes life easier for me.

Short Summary: I’ve composed this build to have a large boon duration, easy condition removal, and awesome burst defense. Much of your offense comes from defensive play. You’ll have to learn to stack pistols confusion(static shot) along with your toolkits confusion (praybar). Keep in mind that Retaliation will do it’s work and to intertwine dodge with your shields. Make use of your ranged pull. Use your toolkit auto attack whenever possible.

Pistol Abilities

  • Auto Attack – Doesn’t do much dmg. It’s not supposed to in this build.
  • Poison Darts – Use this when you feel the enemy is going to try and heal himself.
  • Static Shot – Works great in large crowds. Intertwine this with Pry Bar

Dodge Roll inbetween shield uses when necessary. And remember that two of the shields have a secondary effect (important to time these properly for most protection before using secondary ability).

3 Shields

  • Magnetic Shield – You CANNOT run – Protects ranged attacks. – Reflects ranged attacks. – Knock out of control points – Knockback an enemy Stomper or Rezzer
  • Static Shield – You can run – Protects Ranged or Melee. – Daze Stompers or Rezzers
  • Gear Shield – You can run – Protects Range, Melee, and AoE Circles. – Use on Burst Types and immediately follow with Pry Bar to confuse them so they can dmg themselves

Medkit

  • Bandages – Drop these when defending a control point in advance to prepare for war!
  • Antidote – Cures Conditions (I think 2 Max) – Drop these in preparation at control points as well
  • Stimulant – Very important to keep this up at all times

Elixir B
The tooltips don’t accurately measure how long the boon will last

Elixir C (If I ever make any adjustments in the match, this is usually the ability I swap out.)
If you get zerged or smashed with a gazillion conditions TURN THEM INTO BOONS =) and yes they will hate you forever

Toolkit
Upon activating this kit, you will drop a field that cripples and bleeds foes due to your traits – Nice to combo this up with your Box of Nails

  • Smack (Auto Attack) – Pressing the 1 button or activating any other Toolkit ability, will automatically be followed by this. So get creative with combos.
  • Box of Nails – Used in large crowds to cripple foes – Use at entry/exit areas to slow down enemies pursuing you
  • Pry Bar – Use it often on all classes, most importantly Burst Builds to dmg themselves
  • Gear Shield – Use this as you escape, engage, or just block in any given situation. Burst Builds hate this! Refer to 3 Shields Section up top.
  • Magnet – Use to pull enemies to you to initiate combos – pull attackers from higher ground – pull rezzers or stompers

Toolbelt
Use these abilities as much as possible. The trait spec lowered the cool downs on these abilities

  • Bandage Self – It’s the best heal for you, use it often.
  • Toss Elixir B – Grants one boon, but it grants to everyone who’s standing where you toss it, and don’t forget that you’ll remove a condition irregardless of where you toss it
  • Toss Elixir C – Removes condition, and converts into boon. (Plus you get condition removal from the traits on top of this)
  • Throw Wrench – Best to use this right after you pulled someone towards you or in crowds.

I immediately noticed there was a nerf, but I do think we can still obtain perma swiftness. I’m still quirking on things. Elixir B, Med Kit (With Speedy Kits Trait), Med Kit Swiftness (I forgot the name for the ability, I know it’s number 5 in the med kits ) ability.

Mostly for dungeons but pvp is nice to talk about too.

I have laid off the PVE aspect. Although I could explain why I like them so much, I’d rather focus on pvp at this moment.

sPVP – I like to run multiple builds, but the main reason I enjoy my engineer is because he’s diverse. I have the ability to DPS with Grenades and Bombs. I can control situations on the field on the fly. We have the ability to knock people off of builds/cliffs, cripple foes running through a passage with grenades or bomb kit. But now I must go AFK i’ll come back to finish up the post in a bit….. =)

I have been enjoying the game since launch. It has had some hiccups, but they have or are currently getting worked on.

I feel the current guild options for search/recruiting can use some improvement. Can we make a UI Box that displays current guilds? Requirements those guilds have set? What time zone and play times are most popular? I feel that it’s important for players that are searching or recruiting to have more tools.

What do you guys think?

Any possibility of grenade auto attack?

Please do not nerf this ability. I like it the way it is. I can do a lot of damage to multiplate targets. I also use one of the settings in options that lets me save a second on targeting.
