Winning is one specific moment in GW2. Absolutely unarguably it exists as a definite point.
That point is the moment when you are wandering around as a lowly Elementalist in WvWvW, and a team of 4 suddenly spot you and charge in for the easy kill. You just grin to yourself and immediately ride the lightning to their thief, up-drafting him into a triple fire combo. You continue you dance around them as your AOE attacks and multiple heals drain away their life and keep you at full.
Finally, the moment you win in GW2 occurs, when you see the last person left alive, his three friends dead, and he realizes “We’ve just lost a 4v1 against an elementalist” and he begins to run away.
Of course you kill him, but the real win moment is when their joy turns to fear! Their glee at victory into terror and retreat. Especially when you see the 4 of them again… and that moment comes after you kill only one then next time.
Thats it!
Play EVE and be a marketeer.
Ok the only problem with ascended gear so far was that there was only one way to get it, it was not sellable, and that one way was the worst part of the game. PvE Dungeon grinding.
They have already said that was a mistake. In the future you will be able to earn things in as many ways as you can earn exotics. If you play this game even 5 hours a week you should be able to have a full set of exotics in a month or less.
Having tiny requirements in effort to increase tiny amounts of stats in gear progression is not horrible. If you have played this game at all past 80 you should have the best gear.
Yet, this is exactly what you will find if you come back in a year. c: Have fun.
I think if you solo someone you should be guaranteed a badge of honor. Then I would have probably 50 a day and we could all be happy. (me)
I have recently read a statement that has my hopes up but also has confused me even more. A lot of people have different opinions on Ascended items, but the biggest awkward poker in them is that the only way you can obtain them is through one specific dungeon.
This is insane to me seeing as how they are the new top tier gear. Many people only like to PvP or WvW and while this wont affect PvP it will have a big affect on WvW. If you want this gear to only be obtained through one specific dungeon, at least let people sell it. There is no way I am going to play PvE content for 600 hours to get a set of this gear.
Now the statement I was talking about was Anet saying they will eventually have multiple ways to gain ascendant items. Why not now? It takes nothing to change this. Put them into regular drop tables. If you are worried people will get them too fast, make them extremely super rare in regular drop tables to be comparable with the 60-100 hours of gameplay in the dungeons to get one. But make it so people playing wvw only at least are working towards one by doing the content they like right now. Not two months later.
Thank you I look forward to this immediate hotpatch!
None of you get it, the biggest problem with this is the fact that it forces you to play these dungeons. If these items were like regular exotic items, then who cares. Let the people who grind them grind them and the rest of us will buy them. But making them account bound so you have to play through days and days of the worst PvE in almost any MMO ever. Not fun.
Today I was in a group with two uplevels. One was even a warrior. We were doing the one where you get stacks of frostbite if you are not close to a fire. I was out in the cold killing mobs with 15 stacks of frostbite. I am an elementalist. These warriors are standing next to the fire barely keeping their health above 20%, dying every so often.
There is a reason people say 80+ only, though I think your team not being completely inept matters more.
Btw. I dont care if they add new tiers of gear, but adding it so that the ONLY way to get it is by playing 600 rounds of dungeon crawlers in a game that has some of the worst PvE ever. No thanks. Let people sell it on the market so I can still have my wvw armor and the dungeon weenies can make money.
Balance the game? Naaa, just make it so the players only have no creative options. Spvp too hard? Just take out all armor and accessory stats and put them into a single item. Ahhh, no effort required.
If it makes you feel any better I missed the last several days of Halloween and will now probably miss this as well. I got hit by Sandy, finally have power back but my Internet is still out and Comcast has no ETA on the restoration.
I know it makes me feel better.
They can make any decision they want regarding what they allow in the game or on their official forums for their game. There is no right or wrong thing for them to do, simply what you prefer and what they prefer. What they prefer will and should always happen.
Exotic gear, d/d with defensive and arcane traits, all around armor. Can do any PvE in the game nearly as easy as any other class and have a lot more fun while doing it.
Elementalists are not as easy to solo PvE with. But a defensively specced d/d Elementalist can easily fight several people at once and either win or escape before death 100% of the time. I do not think it is actually possible for an elementalist to die in a 1v1 with two players of equal skill.
Im sure you’ve seen some of the d/d videos by now. Theives may have it easier but and come in at a close second with their 10 second stealth escape but there is no way to ever kill an elementalist that has mist, teleport, and ride the lightning.
Combine all that with lots of CC and 5 different ways to heal up to 15k HP in a few seconds and you have an amazing roaming class.
I still want buffs. But we dont need them for PvP.
when you are done creating your character, there’s a good chance it will not look the same ingame.

Hmm, Im no photographer but… Holy moly! You expect two things to look the same in different lightning? Especially when these two things are low poly models in a game?! Check your character preview in the hero tab.
If you get Exotic Power/Precision/Crit gear and weapons, and go totally fire/air you can down entire groups of people on walls or attacking walls with a combination of meteor shower and elemental storm followed up by an earth 5 attack.
Not only does it down them but you usually get the kill too.
Otherwise you can go into a balanced spec with d/d and go on roams. If you know how to swap attunements often and use combos you will have a very easy time harassing the enemy, using myst and ride the lightning to never die.
Wow, is that what the male version of it looks like o_O
Mmm! Does your car run on coffee too? I thought I had the only one!
It would be amazingly easy to know what you wanted to go for and what was mathematically the best if the insane Anet would actually give real tooltips and information about items and stats in this game. Right now we have no idea what anything even does.
How much damage does 1 power give you? How much % reduction does 1 armor or 1 toughness? What is the rate of reduced effectiveness as it climbs higher?
Sigil: Steal some health on critical hit.
What does that even mean? Some health? Who wrote this stuff?
I just realized I am able to change the colour on the armour to anything… except its original colours. I have no idea why this is. It doesn’t make any sense at all anymore. Overall it is not a huge deal since this game has 999999 shades of every single colour.
I have transmuted cultural armor and following that all the colours changed. I went into dyes and reset them to how I want them. The colours change in the preview window but do not change on my character. I can click close and the colours do not stay.
I do not know what to hope for. This is either an extremely horrible lazy to not have fixed bug, or, spending 80 gold on cultural armor to transmute is intended to scramble the colours and not let you change them after that.
Not much info anywhere at all for this game. The tooltips are vague, data on any kind of statistic is vague. The wiki only repeats what info the game offers.
I suspect eventually someone will be doing all the manual testing required to math out some of the actual hard numbers, but it is a shame that we have to do that just to know very basic things about builds in the game.
What is more needed and absolutely ridiculous that they dont have is any way to duel. I do not even care if you have to go to the mists to duel, the fact that your only option is to join an empty server and -hope- no one else joins is insane. They had a great concept for this game and it panned out well but it is missing so many things that it feels like little babies were only ever expected to play it.
Welcome to capitalism. I am willing to bet almost everyone who already has 100 gold has it because they are clever and know how to play the market. That or they just got lucky and found a few really good items and sold them.
With a market, even as basic and horribly interfaced as the GW2 market, the more money you have the more money you will make each day.
Also you can just buy a billion gems and turn them into gold if you want.
These are all annoying things but are nothing compared to their real problems.
The real question is when will Anet explain anything?
I wonder how much actual defence each point of armor gives, I wonder how much attack each point of power gives. I wonder how my attack damage affects my skills and to what ratio.
I wonder exactly how much certain attributes give (20% of lifesteal on crit) well thats great! If only I knew how much lifesteal I could actually make an educated guess as to if I want that rune or not. Every single relevant piece of information is hidden in this game. Im sure eventually some turtles will do endless hours of testing and post it on the wiki but this should not be necessary. Anet is so paranoid about its users abusing the very limited range of items they have put in the game so they keep us blind at every turn.
This game is fun but it was made as though only 6 year olds who put 0 thought into how the played were only intended to ever play. There is not even an option to check all your buy and sell orders at the same time along with current prices.

People will figure out the aggro mechanics no matter what. Even if they are 100% random people will eventually determine that they are. Any PvE content in any game will always be learned to the letter and people will develop the absolute most efficient way to beat it. It has never not happened in forever.
The wiki actually barely has any more information than the game does. Learning things by trial and error is extremely annoying and a huge waste of time. I am sure some people are eventually going to do it, but I prefer to make my decisions based on information. Half the fun of an MMO to me is mathing out which stats I want compared to what other stats to get my perfect min max build. No one in this game can make any kind of informed choice between one thing or the other when you only have the vaguest idea of what something does but no idea at all how well it does it.
Even Diablo would tell you what % damage reduction 1000 armor would give you, tell you what each stat did exactly in terms of how it affects your damage and life, all the tooltips would explain the number or % of damage done by each ability and even how that ability derived its total damage based on your stats.
This game seems like it was made for 5 year olds.
I have to ask, why is there almost no information at all in this game. There are so many vague abilities and stats that you have to learn by trial and error. But beyond that, everything is hidden or convoluted in some way.
Look at the sigils even. A % chance to do an AoE flame attack on crit. Doesnt say the damage of the attack, doesnt say the radius. Every one of them are like this. Why does this game hide every single stat from you where possible. It doesnt even tell us how much damage reduction your armor is giving you as a % so we can figure out if its linear or exponentially decreasing.
The beginning tutorial has a big boss fight but it doesnt explain anything to you at all about the game. If it wasnt for topics on the forums I wouldnt even know that abilities had combo fields and combo finishers.
Tell me there is somewhere to get all the hidden stats for this game besides digging through the game files please.
You are completely right c: Like many problems MMOs have, most can be solved by adopting the general way EVE does things. It lets players have the power to do what they want with very few rules. The clever and able succeed, the less able do not. Perfect justice. No smashing the hard working teams simply because they are better at something.
There is only one right way to do PvE in any game. You build just enough survivability to never die, and then go pure DPS. Unless you prefer to just play slowly and lazily which is fine if its fun to you. But AI is so predictable that there is no reason to over protect against it, just know its exact maximum potential and your skill, build to always just barely survive and then the rest goes into letting you kill them faster.
When do armor sets start to look… like anything at all! I am level 30 and have only see three variants of armor so far in total. Only two of them ever usable. The most usable one looks exactly the same as the starting armor T_T what is going on? Is it only at high levels that armor starts to look different?
Well that is as lame as an upside down turtle. Oh well! I am getting used to it :c poor fingers, so many buttons, I cant imagine what WoW players do.
Answer is not optional, at least for the first question!
I dunno, why havent you found the other 15000 people doing this? Oh yeah because there are another 15000 doing this and you might notice one, and they might notice 10000 different ones.
All the classes seem fine to me. If you check each Classes’ forum you will see everyone thinks the class they play is UP. Really each class just has a few bugs that need to be fixed but they are all good at what they are designed to do.
I have played Necro, Elementalist, Guardian, and Mesmer.
- I liked Necro a lot for gameplay but all the attacks look the same and the goth style spookster is not for me!
- The Elementalist has the most pretty attacks but requires so much attention always switching and casting and dodging I dont want to do it yet!
- The Guardian is super super smashy and strong. It has decent DPS and great survivability. The only reason I havent decided to stick with it is because it is not super pretty or super ugly but also too melee-ish. It is annoying when enemies run away and I imagine in WvW I will want to AOE groups from safety!
- I am going to try to stick with the Mesmer, it seems to have the lowest DPS of any class I have tried but its attacks are pretty and fun and I feel zip zap zeepo when I play it. I havent tried the great sword.
Hello GW2 GD! I have two separate topics but since I am only one person I wont waste space and you can have them both here.
Firstly I would like to say I find the controls in GW2 very awkward. I have not really played another MMO like this before but it I am sure people do not expect me to use Q and E for strafing, I have already changed them to A and D.
What I really want to know is if I can fix my other control related problem. I do not want to have to hold down the right mouse button to have my character face the direction of my camera. It should be the other way around. My character should always walk towards the camera -unless- I press the right mouse button. I am getting super tired of holding it down 90 hours forever all the time.
Please let me know if I can change this somehow!
My next question is about the human story elements. At the time where you pick what element of society you belong to, one of the choices reads:
Commoner — I was raised among the common folk of Divinity’s Reach. We’re the working class, the cogs that keep the city running. I help out at a tavern owned by my friends, Andrew and his daughter Petra
I am wondering if anyone else thinks this is a reference to Ender’s Game or just a coincidence. I have to admit some off the wording on certain class descriptions or even other human story elements have reminded me of Ender’s Game. Am I crazy or just in love?
OK go at it!
