Leamas,

It is supposed to be fun, not hard and tedious. I can see the game reviews now. This game is so hard and tedious you will love it, buy it now and get your rear end handed to you! Imagine the fun you will have being face down in the dirt! Get the collectors edition that features minis that laugh at you when you die repeatedly!

Anyway all kidding aside, this game remains on big giant gold sink. Just the fact that you have to spend gold just to display your guild emblem after buying the guild emblem template was enough for me to see the real motivation of GW2. Displaying an emblem should have been free for everyone in a guild once the template was completed. In GW1 everyone displayed an emblem, in GW2 noone displays an emblem.

I will never spend another dime on this game, in GW1 I was happy to buy any additional stuff to support Anet, but now the choice is no longer mine and I will continue to show my dis-satisfaction by not spending any more of my money on this gold sink. This patch by removing another gold making opportunity shows where Anet’s mindset is at.

This game will never last as long as GW1 without a major gutting of the gold sink system, it gets too old too fast.

back to the shadows…..

Game going down hill.

ANET needs to make the game solo friendly. Maybe they should look at GW1 for inspiration.

In what ways is GW2 NOT solo-friendly?

Dungeons.

Oh don’t forget about champions and some (not all) skillpoints. Venturing into certain caves can be suicidal also with the high respawn rates.

Let’s revisit this from the Game FAQ:

Will Guild Wars 2 be solo-able?
Yes. You will be able to advance your character to the maximum level without ever joining a group, if you so desire. Most content will be designed in a solo-friendly way, though often with mechanisms for scaling up in difficulty when more players are involved. This will give players the option to experience the game however they prefer.

At the same time, it is important for an MMO community to join together to overcome challenges. Guild Wars 2 will feature challenges that require players to join forces.
———————————————————————————

The first part is still pretty much true.

This last part is now the problem how can the community come together to overcome challenges if the community is not present? You cannot always ask your guild to help out since they may be running dungeons or WvW and be occupied in those those events for hours. So you are stuck grinding soloable events and enemies and unable to do other content that requires players to join forces.

I never thought I would say it but I miss Alesia.

I brought this exact problem up during beta and got excuriated by everyone and now only 3 months later. People are complaining they cannot get through the game because the population has dropped off.

I was told that people would be leveling alts? Nope.

I was told after the initial zerg people would revist maps to “explore”. Not happening.

I was told there would be lots of new players to fill in the gaps. What a joke.

ANET needs to make the game solo friendly. Maybe they should look at GW1 for inspiration.

Do you feel pressured to support GW2 via the cash shop? Why or Why not?

As the title states. Do you feel pressured to support GW2 via the cash shop? Why or Why Not?

My opinion: In GW1 I was happy to buy extra stuff (costumes/storage/char slots/bonus mission pack) to support ANET, I enjoyed the game alot and was happy to spend my Real Money on stuff to support ANET. There was no pressure to do it.

But, in GW2, there is a feeling of being pressured to support the game by the game design itself. We have to spend gold constantly on everything, yes everything( the only exception is hub travel). For example, do you spend 1 gold on a trait book or a guild emblem. Most people will choose the traits. Everyone would like to display their guild emblem but they cannot afford it, hence you feel the pressure to buy gems and trade for gold to buy the emblem.

I am not going to support GW2 via the cash shop in its current state. I am going to grind the game to purchase slots/costumes/storage instead of spending real money on it. It is nice ANET put that time vs money option in for us. I am going to use it. If the game folds down the road so be it. I do not like being pushed to spend my money by the game design.

Why change dye from account to character only?

Spicyhash speaks the truth:

“I am willing to bet that every feature that goes in to the game is built around a principle of the player needing to spend more money in the cash shop.”

Everything is geared to steer you to the cash shop, this is just another example of it. GW2 is one giant gold sink.

Where is all my money?

your money has gone into a goldsink system that is designed to steer you to the cash shop.

I got a cool email from the exploration society!

Just that fact alone is amazing. Email in a world without electricity is pretty darn impressive!

Have to agree with other posts, love the flexibility of the warrior and switching weapons based on the fight.

I just want to know how the Champion Troll in Queensdale has a homing boulder? I have seen that thing go darn near 90 degrees to hit me.

Gold Sinks - What is your opinion? Additional examples.

What does everyone think about the amount of gold sinks in the game? The ones that sticks out the most is travel and armor repair, but the more I play the more I find. IMO there are too many gold sinks in GW2.

Here is an example some of you may not have encountered yet:

Guild Emblems; guilds have to spend a small amount of influence to purchase the NPCs that allow you to display your guild emblem on your armor and certain weapons. Now for some larger guilds the amount of influence is not a problem, however in smaller guilds they may have to spend gold to buy influence to research the guild emblem NPCs.

Now to display the guild emblem on a weapon you have to spend anywhere from 20-30 silver, per weapon, per character, depending on the weapon. To display the guild emblem on chest armor it costs 1 gold per chest armor, per character. If you want to transfer that emblem to a new weapon or chest armor, you must use a transmutation stone (or buy it again), once your are out of stones you have to spend gold on more stones to keep your emblem.

So, you have to spend influence/gold(maybe) to buy the right to spend gold on guild emblems for weapons/armor and have to spend gold to keep the emblems on weapons/armor.

IMO Emblems should be free account wide once your guild unlocks it.
This merry-gold-round is not right.

Another:
How many guilds are going to be able to afford the Commander’s Compendium
at 100 gold each for each character? Large guilds no problem, small guilds never.

Awesome game ANET!!

It would be even better if you removed a majority of the goldsinks!!!
