Special recipes that require a limited event item, it isn’t safe to assume the recipe wouldn’t be special?
The bigger question, which nobody has answered. If this had such a hugely damaging effect on the economy that people MUST be perma-banned, why did they wait 17 days? Wouldn’t the gold already mostly be circulated back into the economy and prices returned nearly to the pre-winter’s day pricing? Not to mention there is a significant amount of money REMOVED from the economy due to TP usage?
What about anet employees refusing to comment about the possibility of it being an exploit prior to bans?
The forum community is a minority. Certainly not an unimportant one, but a minority nontheless.
Once a thread is posted, a point is made, the interaction is fulfilled. Don’t wait for devs to answer you, that is not the purpose of this forum, and it never was.Granted, more regular announcements wouldn’t go amiss.
I don’t think you know what a forum is for…
b : a public meeting place for open discussion
c : a medium (as a newspaper or online service) of open discussion or expression of ideas
2
: a judicial body or assembly : court
3
a : a public meeting or lecture involving audience discussion
b : a program (as on radio or television) involving discussion of a problem usually by several authorities
I agree, more communication is needed, and through official channels.
LB after patch visual effects regarding arrow speed reduce my gaming experience because I feel as if the game went into slow motion all of a sudden.
I am not asking for DPS to go up, not at all, just adjust the visuals to give a faster paced game feel to be in line with SB.
While you are at it please do the same for Axe #1 -again its a visual/feel sort of thing.
How is the increase in travel speed make the game feel slower? i… uh…. what?
Don’t even bother. There is nothing you can do in WvW.
1. Your damage is a joke and your shots get evaded 90% of the time by people simply circling you.
2. Your pet is a moron and can’t hit the broad side of a barn. Most classes can outrun the pet or kill it very easy.
3. You are useless while attacking a keep. BECAUSE YOU CANT kittenING SHOOT ARROWS UP. While engineer happily throws grenades up.
4. You are useless in defense because as soon as you stand near the edge some thief pulls you down, standing further back you won’t be able to hit anything because you get Obstructed.
5. Your pet is completely useless in defending keeps. ZERO. NOTHING.
6. You get 2 shot by almost every other class. Sometimes even one shot and that;s wearing full toughness set because medium armour is shiat
I almost forgot.
7. You can’t get away or catch up to any other class, they either have more movement speed, are invisible 90% of the time or teleport with skills that have barely any cooldowns compared to our horn which is our ONLY kittenING movement speed.
8. Not enough stun/lock breakers, we have 1, yeah whooping one. We don’t have any stuns either, just one that lasts for 1sec, hahaha, kitten you anet.
have you tried playing after the patch before posting?
Saw that in Lion’s Arch. Asked if they had one. Got this in response:
“not taking worthless classes. sorry”
See the problem with your so called class balance?
Now you know what it feels like to be a Ranger pre 12/14 patch (even with this patch our pve builds could use some love (some more signet and spirit love would be awesome).
It happened with about 5 other presents so far
I’ll say what someone in the comments said "You should be a little more cautious when? messing around zones 20 levels higher than you. "
Ok well i ask cause on this thread only thing i’ve seen is pets will hit moving targets but in aother thread i read someone say that longbows are getting buffed. I want to know how this is known ie is there some thread where the devs post some of the changes they are doing to rangers?
Jon has made posts in 3 threads about this upcoming patch stating the following:
• Increase projectile speed (not sure if only on longbow or if on all bows)
• Signet of the Hunt goes to 25% movement speed
• Pets ability to hit moving targets (somewhat) increased.• For WvW and PvP rangers, these three posts are absolutely incredible.
• For PvE leveling rangers complaining that these changes won’t help you, that’s because the ranger is already very balanced for PvE, if not overpowered. The only other “major” fix I think we still need to be totally viable in WvW and PvP is pet AOE damage mitigation. After that happens, you won’t see me on these forums any more cause I’ll be too busy loving my ranger.
I think the other one you missed is Spirit aoe dmg mitigation. Possibly make them immune to 50-80% aoe dmg and be healed by regen and your healing spell (only pve if needed for balance issues).
Or reduce the overall CD to about 30-45 seconds and drop the internal cd to about 5sec.
Any chance you could tell us what % of the Ranger class you feel the pet should be accounting for with their DPS? Is it supposed to be a 70/30 split or 50/50? Next to nothing? etc.
Just trying to get an idea of what the designers feel the class should be capable of and what it’s currently doing.
I don’t remember where, but there was an ANET employee stating that the pet should account for about 45% of the Ranger’s DPS, which seems to be supported by some rough dps number crunching.
Someone in the Ranger forums said that our ranged dps was behind engineers by at least 50%, which would support the ANET’s ‘pets=~45% of ranger dps’ (paraphrasing).
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/7200302083?page=3#60
this is what Jon should have said. Don’t even hint at what would make it into the patch or be clearer in separating what they plan to do for the class, in the long run, vs what they’re going to do in the patch.
Something no-one has pointed out is LB crits harder, ergo, harder hitting in less time, ie. higher burst.
Also, thieves sb has a draw time, unlike ranger.
Crits harder? What do you mean by that? LB has higher crit damage? Because that’s wrong. They both do 200% damage on crit.
Also, thief sb homes in on the enemy, bounces, and actually has damaging skills.
Sigh…but the LB does more damage per strike, so whatever percentage the number is for your char the Longbow will always be a larger amount….
You guys are terribad at analysis, really… as for pets doing 40% damage, pure myth, they dont event show in combat log so how did people come to this magic conclusion?
Thieves arrow is far slower moving too, as well as the draw time…and they are close to pure DPS so, yes, they should do more damage. Nearly all of the thief melee is single target where as most of ours is AOE..
This was derived from a quote from an ANet employee stating that Ranger pets are suppose to account for ~45% of our total dps, which is how they’re balancing ranger dps on.
They are basing our dps on the assumption that the pet will deal 45% of our total damage, even though they are buggy as hell and cannot hit moving targets.
Hello everyone, I was wondering if you can help me create a good build for dungeons, because I’m not really convinced on what I’m building now.
Basically, my idea is to use SB for main damage output, and LB for AoE and some support skills.
My current skills and traits:
http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mmom0c0zMoFmvMMFGvMGpaaVcRMaoV
Regarding gear, I was thinking going half Pow/Prec/Crit and half Pow/Prec/Condition, with 4 runes of the scholar and 3 runes of the afflicted.
For accessories, a was also thinking going half and half, later I though about building a bit of tough/vit, but that would mean I need to do lot of WvW to farm tokens, which I don’t like.
On weapons, I though on going Sigil of Rage for SB, and something else for LB (don’t know yet).
The problem with this build, is that is really glass-cannony and I may die a lot in hard dungeon like Arah and high levels of FotM.
I’m not a stranger to dungeon runs really, but I haven’t done all yet, I’m still missing Arah, CoF, CM, and I found that is really hard to stay alive in TA for example.
Is it really necessary to build Vit and Though for dungeons runs? Or glass cannon works just fine for ranger?
I’d really appreciate your input. Thanks in advance!
Personally, I’ve gone glass cannon full pwr/pres/crit LB with axe/wh offhand for my dungeon runs. It’s worked for me, but I haven’t tried getting a tough/vit set yet. (I feel this is the only viable build for me [using lb]).
That being said, I think if you’re going to try to use SB as your main dmg output, you should focus on condition damage, as that’s where sb really shines. In medium distance the sb will perform about equal to the LB (~900 range) in pure on-hit dps, which is not taking into account bleeds. With this in mind, you want to maximize your bleed dmg. (at least that’s the build I would go if I reverted to SB).
When I did run sb, I ran power/pres/crit and let the bleeds be extra (personal choice)
for spec I’d probably use http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mmom0c0zMoRMvMmRMvMGpa0fcRMaoo08kiT707kir7070M7kIZ70V7ow270m
One of the biggest things businesses need to learn is that it may be easy to get new customers… but retaining them is key and is also the most difficult part.
The thing is he said the buffs/improvements were either already done or just needed a little bit of tweaking (which was why they weren’t in the previous patch [prior to Nov 15]) or they were close enough to be sure they were going to be in there. He also said that Ranger was the class that needed the most love and yet they get the least number of fixes/attention? Logic please?
Shouldn’t the class with the highest need of love get the most love in the next patch?
yeah, im gonna say if you are going to build your ranger around dealing damage with the weapon in your hand alone, you sir are doing it wrong and should reroll another class.
heres the sweet deal.
your DPS you oh so love comes from your pet. how so? lets say on average i hit 430 dmg at max range with my longbow and there goes my pet and smacks the target for 1200 damage consistently. now i went to sPvP with almost identical build, with more traits etc. i hit my enemy for 2.2k crit and 700 dmg i think between minimum range and half range. my pet consistently had dps above 3.2k with absolutely monstrous 4.5k critso i figured instead of trying to squeeze all of the possible power out of myself i though F that and went down the tanking role. so i tank the player while the pet just goes to town on them. it works, i out DPS’d a valentine thief [thats heartseeker spammers] out gunned a warrior with o ho and behold a rifle, i out dps’d another ranger with shortbow with traps and a moa, out dps’d a greatsword warrior because he spend most of his time sitting on his kitten and stunned into place. let him stun you, get close start off his 100 blades and just use lightning reflexes and let the pet keep pwning it. keep a stack of 20 vulernability from the get to and make use of it by swapping to greatsword close the gap with nr 3 hilt bash him in the face just to piss him off and add bleeds use nr2 and once he starts hitting you use nr 4 and knock him flat on his kitten again, once the vulernability wears off either fear him away or go to longbow and point blank shot from melee range and dodge backwards, keeping the distance. by now i have eaten out at least 2/3 of his health and he is popping his heal, since no one expects you to be able to keep up the damage from afar he is comfortable with taking hits. but once he notices that the arrows hit absolutely nothing and the pet deals the 3k and 5k hits, he starts paying attention to the pet. which swiftly vanishes.
any single build on a ranger that focuses on doing a single job is 100% guaranteed to fail.
if you havent learnt this already, then please get it in your head, Ranger’s are Jacks of ALL trades. Master of none!
so instead of going pure dps, go a hybrid that does 3 things, even fitting 4 roles work on a ranger with a single build. we are not a class that focuses on a single aspect leaving weaknesses left right and centre. we are rangers, survivors. its what we do.
The ranger page on the Official website claims we are unparalleled archers. not “jack of all trades.”
Second, the pets can’t hit moving targets… makes them useless in pvp unless your target is either bad, stupid, both, or being rooted/stunned/etc by your teammate.
You outgunned a warrior? prove it, show screenshots or videos of your 21k+ hits.
Maybe in pve where the enemies tend to stay still, allowing your pet to do dmg. But here’s the thing, pets are beyond squishy against aoe.
I’m lv 80 in full exo and my pets consistently die from aoe unless I’m using a ranged one (still die to aoe from the bosses) or a tank pet (which does crap dmg compared to any other pet).
I’m sure you’re all smart folks, and I don’t need to mention the following, but I’ll leave it here anyway.
It is easier to dodge a single hit (especially one that you see coming because of a long charge up), than it is to dodge a multi hit (because even if you dodge the first few, you’ll still take the rest).
except to dodge that one skill, you actually have to use your dodge skill rather than just strafe back and forth.
The arrow travel speed is so slow that at max range, players only just have to keep strafing back and forth for about 1/2 (or more) of our shots to miss.
Really well written.
I see your point. Would you be objected to new gear having different combinations of stats? Or the addition of stat manipulation, ie discovering your own recipe for inscriptions that could be composed of any which stat (assuming the combination doesn’t already exist).
For me, what I miss is some of the raiding (not necessarily for the gear, rather the massive instance with people, working together). I feel, outside of pvp, there isn’t much to do with your guild, on a large scale, at least for me.
How about being able to do equal dmg as warriors at ranged. 20k killshots…
Clearly not. Some warrior asked me how much damage I crit and I proudly told him 2k and sometimes 3k thinking I was doing pretty well. He then told me that my damage was horrible and compared his warrior abilities to mine.
Basically warrior abilities do 3-5x as much damage as their ranger counterparts.
a warrior posted a video of them doing 15-20k crits consistently on their warrior with a rifle (killshot). but still… The best we do is with a full rapid fire that crits… and that’s MAYBE 10k (over entire channel).
This is what i love about Rift. They have a Public test server to test this stuff out with anyone.
It’s a very common practice in the mmo industry and very beneficial to the players and company as a whole why ANet doesn’t choose to do this is a mystery.
Because if they did, they would have to reveal the patch notes early. It’s VERY clear they don’t want to do that.
except that this would take a lot of work off of the devs in that instead of having them have to test everything extensively, this sucking up a lot of their time, they can have probably ~1k players do it for them, for free.
Guys, guys guys.
Didn’t he basically implied in his post that he would release the upgrades on rangers in parts?
While we work hard to keep updates going on all professions, not very build us going to contain fixes for everyone due to the nature of software development. One problem with rangers is the lack of build diversity created by a number of sub par utility skills. Many signets, a shout or two, and spirits are all a bit lackluster. That is the first place to expect improvements. Second is trying to improve the feel/ pacing on some weapons.
Unless they did all the changes they thought was necessary in this one patch, wouldn’t they eventually release more fixes and buffs to ranger on next balance patch?
well, for one, he said “that is the first place to expect improvements.” Well, unless my understanding of the English language is incorrect, his use of the pronoun “that” would refer to the previous topic of "the lack of build diversity created by a number of sub par utility skills. Many signets, a shout or two, and spirits are all a bit lackluster. "
Of the 14 points that made it to this patch, only one of them addressed the above points, and it was done so rather poorly. The main issue with the spirits, wasn’t necessarily the proc rate, rather the survivability of the spirits. They generally die within a hit or two, so AoE tends to really foxtrot them up.
He also said there were going to be significant improvements in this patch… I don’t see any significant improvements to the ranger outside of underwater combat… which generally occurs about <10% of the time (at least for me).
As you have said, we are like free kills for everyone, except those who have been playing for 2 days. Ranger isn’t about playing how you want to play, it’s cold math. Shortbow and axe for us, nothing else. And I for one, am not really into these weapons. Axe-throwing is lame, and not satisfying, shortbow is like button 1 spam, and we can’t even kite around with it, cuz of relatively slow recharges (Crippling shot causes 3secs of Cripple and has 12 s CD) The other weapons are next to useless. especially in pvp.
Spirit’s die in 3 hits, our signets are almost worthless if not traited to affect us aswell. It’s been more than 2 months since the game was released, and rangers got nothing except a nerf to shortbows, and buff to harpoon guns (YAY). warriors get buffed in every patch, why?!
Because it’s Guild “Wars”.
That aside, I don’t want another burst ranger. There was enough of that in GW1…and Aion. That’s not how ranger should be. A ranged high burst class is stupid.
Imo, there’s no need to boost DPS in ranger weapons. What needs to be done is a fix to AI for pets, and universal bugs that affects all classes (including projectile bugs ofc).
If they didn’t want ranged burst then why give warriors killshot? why are mesmers able to 2-3 shot ppl in under 3 seconds? the one class that’s suppose to excel at ranged dps is at the bottom of the ladder in terms of ranged dps… real.
There is about a .5-1 sec window to use the WP while the keep/garrison is contested. It helps if you have someone do a countdown and watch the map for when it becomes available again.
SO you really think, that the ranger, which class description says: “Unparalleled Archer” , is SUPPOSED to be weaker then the warrior, the average sword and board/hammer pound away dude.
The Warrior’s description states “Warriors are masters of weaponry”. Not “melee” weaponry but “weaponry”. As in “all weapons, including ranged ones”. You’re shoving previous mmorpg conventions onto the Warrior just as you are with the Ranger
In the first beta weekend, the Warrior could (often did) lose to the ranger; the Ranger would spec for damage, ignore the pet entirely, and win fights.
The class that is designed to win through being superior with weapons equipped, lost on their own home turf.
You may say rangers are supposed to be the best at ranged combat; I say, there’s better ways for that to be so than raw damage.
Unparalleled archers… I think this part isn’t sinking in for you. This means that in terms of archery, rangers are on top. No one is better. this INCLUDES WARRIORS.
-Spirits have more health, Spirits being one of the things he specifically mentioned as needing a buff
I’m sorry… what? I… uh… what?
However, the patch did largely what I was expecting, for Rangers.
Those of you who were expecting something along the lines of ‘longbow damage made so a ranger can beat the class specifically designed to win 1v1 with weapons and undermine that class’ role as a heavy hitter using only weapons’ were setting yourselves up for dissapointment.
Well… seeing as the Rangers are, and I quote, “Unparalleled archers, rangers are capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows.” and the unique aspect to Rangers are their pets (a stable of loyal pets at their command, rangers can adapt to any situation.)… I’d figure that " significant ranger improvements." implies a fix or buff to one of the two aspects, which ANET has agreed, that is lacking or lackluster.
I wasn’t even expecting a damage increase on the bow. I would have been happy with a projectile movement increase for the bows which made it harder to dodge by simply strafing left and right (yes you can actually dodge ranger lb arrows by simple strafing left and right… no need to even use dodge).
or fixing pets so they can hit things while moving or at least a reduction in AOE dmg taken… like (pets: aoe damage taken reduced by (35-60%)
Rangers can be good snipers but they need a lot of work, such as pets and easy to dodge LB with high cd’s on barrage.
It’s probably due to my build, but I find that any decent thief will beat me in a 1v1, especially if they’re stealth/bs spec. I don’t know if it’s because of the fact that I’m a norn, but I don’t usually get away from a zerg unless I start running far before they’re anywhere near in-range to hit me.
If the ranger’s LB auto’s weren’t so easy to dodge by simply strafing, I’d say they’re very good at sniping, but the simple fact that strafing left and right works almost as effectively as dodges and evades makes it rather hard to actually kill someone who’s paying attention to what’s happening around them.
btw, I’m anything BUT a pro ranger. I’m avg at best (imo).
Badges are valued at 1s each.
If badges is the currency for it, it would need to be 10,000 Badges of Honor but to compromise maybe make the book 50g and 5,000 badges.
However, as Kirito pointed out, if this suggestion went live, they would have commander (really Lieutenant) for a week and lose it to lack of activity.
If the new system is implemented (ie voting points/merits) would having a minimum number instead of using badges?
The problem with using badges is that it takes a long time to farm up 5,000 badges as they’re account bound and not send-able. Having a minimum voting merits would be similar to a introductory type thing where it gives you time to get used to WvW and how things work.
Commander was also intended to work in PvE for Raids and Dynamic Events.
So Map text chat color of the commander should effect that channel as well.
As for the icon, new players will see the icon on the map and see the constant use of text communication of those that have the icon on the map, it will be a simple deduction by players to identify the commander and what the colored chat represents.
What you ask for, as an icon in chat, would force a new chat code to be tooled to accommodate the commander flag. It is unnecessary and easily adjusted with a system already in place for Flagged Players… Text Color.
Again, would this accommodate the different chat colors already in place (team is red, map is lighter red, squad is gold)? Would adding bolding into the chat be too difficult to add as well?
Great idea, but adding to this they should sell commander status via 500 Badges of honor, give it a purple icon, and all the option you suggest. Sick of running to a commander who is just out farming ore, or dancing on a hilltop. 100g puts money into politics and that is just bad, the people who eat, sleep and crap WvW should have these options, not someone who spends 75 dollars at the gem store.
The suggestions made would make their $75 purchase moot as they would lose it until they get better at leading.
(edited by Kirito.3591)
I will refer to my posts in the suggestion forums in terms of my replies to you, undermine.
Why aren’t the siege equipment from the defending forces made usable to the capping force? ie, if we take Dreaming Bay, and the previous defenders had 3 counter trebs set up, why don’t we get control of that once the keep gets capped?
Is this intentional or is it simply due to limited coding?
The reason I ask, is that in real combat… if the vehicle/weapon isn’t destroyed in the attack, the invaders can simply pick them up and use it themselves. If my memory is correct, that’s one of the reasons why the russians use a slightly larger caliber round for their AK rifles, so they could use the enemies munitions but not vice versa.
The team/squad/map chat are already different colors. Are you specifically saying that the text the commander issues will be a different color from each of those? I wouldn’t have the commander affect map chat as that extends beyond pvp and commander is primarily a pvp thing, though it’s also a little showy/flashy in pve but serves no real purpose other than showing off.
Simply adding the icon should be enough for players to identify the commander in chat and read what he/she is saying. The reason I’m saying this is that it allows you to distinguish if they’re talking in squad or team chat.
If you change the commanders text color (as seen by others) to a different color (probably the same), it will not be easily known by new players, players who are new to wvw or pvp, and players who don’t go to the forums or read patch notes. The icon is already known as commander and is quickly identified if that fact wasn’t previously known. possibly adding bolding to the text may help as well.
There are a lot of aspects of the Commander that needs retooling.
An icon is not enough for commander chat. It needs to be a new color completely. A color that stands out.
I believe that at an end of a match, a Rating/Voting System becomes active. Starting at Thursday 5pm PDT to Friday 5pm PDT.
Ultima Online had a wonderful system for rating their factions leader. It was based off Voting. But the Rating system should have more to it than a mere vote.
The player’s deeds and feedback is just as important as the commanders’ play time and actions.
As a commander or player actively plays in WvW they get Voting Merits (some sort of marker to establish ranks of time invested). The more merits one acquires, the stronger the vote is that a player may casts. As for commanders, the more merits they acquire, measures the strength of votes they can accept by individual voters.
Example:
Commander A played for 10 hours in the week and acquired 40 merits.
Commander B played for 40 hours in the week and acquired 160 merits.Player Y played for 5 hours and aquired 20 merits which allows him/her to cast 20 votes, he/she could give them all to A or B or split them.
Player Z played for 80 hours in the week and acquired 320 Merits. If player Z desires he/she may cast 40 votes for Commander A but no more because that is Commander A’s cap, and if he/she desires player Z may also give commander B 160 votes.
There are more than just 2 commanders per server so each player that spend enough time in WvW may be generous to several commanders.
At the beginning of each week, commander enter WvW and interact with some device in the Realm’s Citadel. They may opt to take a Vacation for the match (status is disabled) or Qualify for Votes (status remains active). Merely doing this awards the commander X Merits and adds the commander to the list of candidates.
When a Match ends, all votes are counted. Commanders that did not meet a threshold of votes (not counting those that chose to vacation) have their status stripped and book refunded. They may not use the book again for 30 days but this book may be sold on the trade post. Of course they will not get the 100% gold back but they may get some. They may also opt to use the book on another character and try to start fresh.
Commanders that met a certain threshold retain their status, but their titles may be altered and sorted as thus:
Lieutenant
Lieutenant Commander
Commander
Captain
GeneralAlso, Orbs of Power needs to be slightly altered so that only commanders may carry them. This would eliminate any chance of griefing and dishonest play.
Later, as the system is refined, other rewards should be added to reflect what commanders do, such as taking/defending a tower, keep or castle. Or capturing an Orb of Power. These should also add merits to the commander.
Well the icon is blue. That’s already a different color. but I get your point.
As for the voting, I don’t know if you should cap the number of merits one player can give to a commander. For example, there could be a commander that has had it longer than another, but is inferior to a new commander. Why is the new one penalized in the number he can receive simply because he’s new?
I do like the idea for ranking of commanders, but I would like to add that it should be up to the commander on whether or not they want to upgrade it or not. ie, some players (commanders) prefer only dealing with small, tactical playing while they defer to “veteran” commanders for more map-wide planning. So they would keep it at one of the first ranks instead of upgrading it to a higher rank.
As for losing the title, the book is consumed. Are you suggesting that the book is then re-added to inventory when purchased? I’m against making it sellable on the TP, but I’m not against them being able to sell it back at a reduced value (60-80% back), if not at full price.
I would also think that the removal of the title should not be made simply based on one week, rather a consistent lack of votes or “demerits” for poor commanders.
I am against your idea/suggestion about the orbs. This would make night capping, which is a valid strategy, require a commander to even attempt ninja orb capping. I do understand your point but I don’t think this is the solution.
(edited by Kirito.3591)
what if the timers scaled with the number of players in the zone?
I also posted this in Suggestions section, but since this only applies to WvW, I figured this would be an apt place to post.
I was thinking, why isn’t the commander status (the icon) also being applied next to their name in team/squad chat?
For me, sometimes the team chat gets flooded with other players either whining, asking for help, calling out enemies, that you sometimes lose sight of the commander’s orders for WvW.
I know blizzard uses it for their GM’s when they’re working. Part of that is so that players can easily identify them in chat — another part of it is authenticity, ie preventing people from pretending to be a GM, but that doesn’t apply to my suggestion.
Since it only applies to team (and squad?) chat, this will only matter in WvW.
tl;dr, Add the commander symbol to team chat for WvW.
if you would like to comment on it in the suggestions section, see link: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Commander-Status-1/first#post603848

I just wish that each of the weapon skills added 1-2 more skills per section (mh and oh) and allowed re-organization (within the section, ie mh skills can only be placed in slots 1-3, etc etc). Simply adding 1-2 more skills would have drastically increased the number of combinations that can be run (outside of 2h weapons. variations for 1h weapons is far greater).
Kill 1000 critters is a title
I’m 890/1000 now
. I believe the title is Indiscriminate killer
errrr wrong.
I’ve had over 1000 critters killed for a while now and no title. I think there are only 6-7 titles you can get in GW2 from pve without having played GW1
Kindly stop trying to impose your playstyle and or unfounded opinions on other players.
Lest you want to be treated the same way you treat other people.
Wow, umm… hypocrite much? That is exactly what you have been doing. Take your own advice friend.
Um… nope. He’s be advocating the addition of an OPTIONAL tool that would exist in parallel with your option. YOU, on the other hand, have been advocating that everyone uses YOUR method instead of increasing the options to reach the end goal (a dungeon group).
The addition of a LFD tool will be optional. If you have a guild that you consistently run dungeons with, great you can still do so. However, if no one is on in your guild or they’re busy in another dungeon or otherwise occupied there are other options available to the player.
And the reason I am against a LFD tool, is because the game is already becoming easier and easier with all the changes they keep making. If they add a LFD tool, it just adds to that. I’m sorry, but I’m tired of everything being handed out to players cause they complain enough on the forums cause they refuse to do any work to get things done, so Anet changes stuff to make it easier for them.
Just getting tired of everyone wanting easy mode for everything in the game, instead of doing the effort for themselves.
I’m sorry? since when did the LFD or LFG tool become a handout? Did the LFG reward players with items/loot/cash/coin/dungeon rewards that I wasn’t aware of? Oh… it put me in a group that may or may not stay formed before the start or end of the dungeon run.
I’ll try applying some of your logic to real world applications.
Hm… remove bus systems. I worked hard to learn how to drive and work to save up for a car, so everyone else can do the same. I’m tired of the government setting up a bus system for people who haven’t taken the time/effort to learn how to drive and/or get a car!
REMOVE WELFARE! those lazy bums! I have a job and I work hard for my money, why should they get handouts? If I can get a job so can they! I don’t care if the economy is crap, if I can do it so can they! Screw easing their burdens!
Well, from what I’ve seen, a lot of bots use a set path/pattern to their “playing”. Every action you do has to be sent to the server and then sent back. In theory, anet could be tracking what every single player is doing and saying.
We also know that anet has a tracking system put in place with messages and mail, putting a limit of how many times you say similar things and then muting you (ie “LFG” or “LFM” or what it’s originally suppose to mute “buy gold”).
Would it not be feasible for ANET to do something similar with player pathing patterns? Ie if a group of players are in the same area (same place/pathing within lets say 50-100 units deviation) and repeating this pathing in a set time frame (15-30 min) flag them for a GM/ANET employee to look at.
this happen a lot today. No one even fight anything. They just run to find candy.
I had an asura hide right next to me with about 10 monsters following him while I was killing a veteran in orr.I saw him do it to someone else too later. I tried to help that person but we got overwhelmed by monster also respawning and died.
those are the joy of mmo.

Also:
>Claims Rangers are bad
>Every single bot is a RangerOne of these things is not like the other.
Not accurate.
I’ve seen warrior bots, guardian bots, and even a few engi bots.
It is sad to me that Ranger players think a 4-5k crit is “a lot of damage”.
It is a decent chunk, sure. But a lot? No… no no no.
You fully spec into somethhing, to get the most dps out of a pet, and really think 4-5k should be the damage it does? And, that that is a “lot”…
That says more about the state of rangers than any amount of complaint could.
What I find funny is that I spec glass cannon (me, not pet) and my pet is out critting me. Atm i’m not in full exxo, which could explain it but still. getting outcrit by about 60% (atm i’m in a lv 65 area and I’m critting about 600-800 on mobs while my pet is hitting 1200-1500).
Possible longbow buff?
Add a 1-2 second cripple to 4,
allow 5 to be casted while moving (at -66% move speed), and
reduce the attack speed of 1 by .15s
thoughts?
I originally was going to suggest a reduction of .25s for 1 but with the other additions, it may make it too strong of a buff.
Except there aren’t only ranger bots. I’ve seen a train of 6 guardian bots, another 5 warrior bots and a handful of a combination of the 3 (rangers included).
“The disallowance on sniping/pushing in PvE. One tiny height advantage and the mob becomes ‘invulnerable’. " also has me miffed.
In one of the General Discussion threads, a player asked if it was exploiting to get up to somewhere very difficult without using hacks/cheats/etc, rather just ingenuity and skilled jumping. An ANET rep said it wasn’t exploiting.
If that’s the case, why are ranged prof punished for using the environment to our advantage? In my case, it’s the ranger. Why can I not sit ontop of a hill or mountain and snipe mobs or sit across a canyon and snipe them? Is it my fault they don’t/won’t/can’t use the same method I used to get here?
No reply doesn’t mean not respected. If they posted that it’s being fixed, people will rant that it took forever. If they say it’s in the works, people will say it’s taking to long. If they say it’s in the next patch, people will say ANET doesn’t care about their players for taking so long. Ranger isn’t the only class bugged in this game.
Alot of people are never satisfied in mmos.
Have you even read the thread that’s gotten a reply from a dev?
They didn’t say “we’ll fix it” they basically said “Yeah, we nerfed you… now deal with it.”
actual quote below.
Took a couple of days to get debugging in on this. It is in fact a 40ms difference which equates to about 7% less damage when spamming 1. We made this change because it was creating some animation bugs to leave it where it was. It was also encouraging just spamming 1 which isn’t the most fun gameplay. If our data shows shortly that shortbow is now not effective we can certainly address that, but would do so by improving other skills on that weapon rather than by reintroducing the spam on 1 and the bugs that it was creating.
This reply seemed as if that he ignored every post following his first one. Not only that but the replies after this said that there’s data suggesting that it’s more than a 7% dps nerf (which isn’t even accurate. The math alone says it’s 8% [7.6%]). Not a single **** was given after that post, is what seems to be conveyed by ANET.
Yup, I started my thief as well. How pathetic is it that so many other classes are better at “ranged” than the “ranger”?
Ranger does not mean someone who uses ranged weapons.
It refers to someone who travels or roams over large swaths of territory.
How about we quote the Creators of the game?
Unparalleled archers, rangers are capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows.

yup… unparalleled… totally
oh and looking at the full blurb
Rangers rely on a keen eye, a steady hand, and the power of nature itself. Unparalleled archers, rangers are capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows. With traps, nature spirits, and a stable of loyal pets at their command, rangers can adapt to any situation.
No where does it say melee or CQC. It emphasizes RANGED COMBAT via BOWS!
@rickets
not entirely sure why but the forums randomly bugs out and doesn’t show the quote, +1, or any of the other normal buttons… anyways on my warrior, with the build and gear I have, I have a 100% crit chance at lv 24. Plus I think one of my traits turns crits into bleeds.
Ranger. Do you see the word Range in that? I don’t see sword and greatsword as a ranged weapon. Some people actually pick their class on the decision if it’s ranged or not. I don’t like up and close combat, I prefer fighting from a distance.
Longbow just doesn’t do enough damage because you can’t kite mob while you are in combat(mobs are faster than you). Shortbow was good untill they nerfed it.
And what about Ranger not being a damage class? What are they? They aren’t a tank, support class. Of course they have their pets, but these are useless right now. If you take anything else than a tank pet(bear) it will die within seconds. Your bear pet might be good enough to tank 1 or 2 mobs, but more than 2 is just impossible.
So yeah, I suppose ranger should be a damage class, as they do not have anything else to really focus on. It’s a really generic class.
Also the ranger should have a higher DPS because they don’t have real utility skills to break out of combat. Almost all classes get a skill to boost their movement speed to get away, rangers only have a 10% passive boost, which doesn’t help in combat.
As last I would like to say something about you. Please don’t flame people with “WoW Baby” or refer to that game. Many people don’t come from that game. Heck, I haven’t ever played it. So next time you start a topic, don’t start off with flaming people who enjoyed another game and compare it to Guild Wars 2.
Wrong, wrong and more wrong.
If anything we are top tier in avoiding damage, we have vigor regen coming out of all four orifices and again, welcome to the forums for if you weren’t new you would know that fifty thousand qualified Rangers, have shed light over little rangettes such as yourself THAT we infact do not MEAN ranged individuals.
A ranger does not mean one who excels at ranged weapons, google and increase your bran. If a ranger was another ranged close boring kitten class that allows easy moders to sit back and pew pew to their hearts delight I wouldn’t have chosen such a pathetic class. I’m so glad we are not purely Ranged pro’s so glad.
I’m going to leave you with this…
Rangers aren’t specifically range attackers. The term “Ranger” comes from the verb “range”, which means, generally, “to wander”.
Or, from Dictionary.com: To pass over or through (an area or region) in all directions, as in exploring or searching: “They ranged the entire countryside.”
So, thinking Rangers are specifically a ranged class is completely wrong. Thanks, try again.

Last part. Rangers can adapt to any situation. Like picking a sword up and using it effectively.
except… what you’ve been saying is that people should not be focusing on the ranged aspect, which is the big selling point to the ranger, especially as it’s described by the creators of the game.
Yes adapting to the situation indicates that the use of the other items are purely situational, ie not often. Nerfing the ranged aspect for a “Unparalleled archer,” whose only ranged weapons are bows, so they are forced to re-spec/build for CQC is unbelievably stupid. It’s like saying, “hey, I know you’re really good at cooking, so much better than you are a musician, but I’m going to have you be our lead guitarist anyways.”
So, who exactly is forcing you to play a melee ranger? Is the anet mafia in your house putting hand clamps on your mouse hand and threatening to kill your family if you don’t use a greatsword? You have 3 ranged options. the .40ms nerf isn’t really much of a big deal, you lose one bleed. It happens. There are a host of viable options, Rangers are a very flexible class with a lot of different options. Just because some people want to pretend that their way is the best doesn’t mean its true. That isn’t how the game works.
“You got a nice house here, shame to see it burn down, See, we won’t use this here kerosene if you just go ahead and use this here greatsword.”
Seriously?
so for the entirety of this thread you have NOT be advocating the use of melee weapons as the main source of dmg instead of being primarily ranged?
First two items you listed as alternatives for main damage sources, GS and Sword.
When you start nerfing viable ranged dps weapons making melee weapons the only real viable choice for damage/dps then yeah you’re pretty much going to be pigeon holed into a melee ranger if you’re trying to maximize your dps, which is generally what you’re trying to do in dungeons and somewhat in sPvP (max dmg and max survivability).
Also, if you’ve bother keeping track of the entire situation before running your mouth, you would know that it isn’t a 40ms nerf as listed rather it’s higher. Some numbers point towards an 80ms nerf while others indicate that this nerf bugged quickness for the SB. Some show that this patch had decreased SB dps by 25%+ bleeds.
Personally, I’m getting between 3-5 stacks less, on average. I haven’t been able to test it in dungeon situations as of late, though. And given how fast most mobs respawn in PvE, taking much longer to kill the mobs, who outrun you, is annoying to say the least.
