Hello prospective future guild mates! Allow me to introduce Seraphic Dawn [ANGL].

Seraphic Dawn is a sanctuary, a place where members are friends, and friends are helpful. We have a family friendly, courteous, and active Guild Wars 2 community. We are looking for those who would help to build such an environment. We have been a small guild. Now we seek to grow, so we can continue to provide the support to our members necessary for them to accomplish their goals as the scale of challenge increases in the upcoming expansion. We are veterans who have conquered every challenge Tyria could throw at us, and are looking to make new friends to tackle raids, stronghold, and wreak havoc on the new borderlands map.

Seraphic Dawn [ANGL] is a PvX guild. Though we focus primarily on PvE, we PvP quite a bit, and do a little WvW. Most of our members are based in Sanctum of Rall, where our WvW activities take place. We are primarily English speaking, but have a couple members who can also speak Spanish. We are most active around server reset, with the most significant online presence continuing for several hours after. We usually do at least one difficult group activity around reset, with guild missions at reset on Saturday.

You may apply for membership by sending an in game mail or whisper to Kovacs Zoltan.9386.

Come join the most dedicated group of friends you will ever know.

Karma Vendor for T6 mats

This is an intriguing idea. I agree that you can’t really expect people not to farm when you put items in the game that encourage it.

I am quickly approaching the point where all 8 of my 80s are in full exotic gear, as well as having nearly enough karma to purchase all the stacks of obby shards that I will ever need for those 5 legendary weapons for the achievement.

Most will not bother to get 5, so I wager there is already a lot of idle karma in the game already. Therefore, I can understand if Anet doesn’t want to allow karma to be turned to gold. However, Gnat’s suggestion would be an excellent way to circumvent that. Creating a simple mystic forge recipe to turn, say, 10 t6 mats into a pristine mat, and then putting a karma vendor in the game that sells pristine mats for 20-25k karma, and finally having an alternate gift of might/magic recipe that used the pristine mats instead, would give a way for players to play with Anet’s model, rather than against it when it comes to legendaries.

This may all be a moot point when 500 level crafting comes out, but the way they are talking about implementing it may only exacerbate the situation. It may become that people are going to feel compelled to get 10 t6 of each type per day (given the charged crystal style crafting limit that has been implied for t7 crafting), instead of 250 someday. This could result in people feeling like they need to go farm instead of play to keep up with their cooldowns.

I think given all these points, an alternate karma based system almost becomes imperative. Otherwise, the players are going to become even more influenced to farm content as time goes by.

Server downtime in news feed, please

I’d like to make a suggestion that all server downtime be announced in the news feed of the login client. I think it’s great that the sites like Twitter and Facebook are being used, as well as the forums, to announce new content and to notify us of downtime. However, some (like myself), don’t use Facebook or Twitter, and only rarely get on the forums.

I was blindsided by the midnight server downtime on the 6th. I’m on late at night by the server clock, and was counting on the pattern that had been established over the many months previous (patches going live sometime between 8:00am-12:00pm server time) to complete the last few living story achievements. While I knew the new content would go live on the 6th, the 60 minute warning in game was the first I had heard of precisely when that would be.

Now perhaps I shouldn’t have waited so long to do that last little bit of the living story, but every other MMO I’ve ever played (FFXI, WoW, DDO, to name a few) has announced estimated server downtime length and timing through in game channels days in advance of the actual downtime. This has generally been done through the login interface, which 100% of users must see on their way to playing the game. Facebook, Twitter, and even the forums, are seen by significantly fewer players. I know this because I am usually the most up to date on the news for GW2 in my guild, and I rarely ever get on any of the above auxiliary media.

Please start giving us notice of when, how long, and preferably why the servers will be down. If possible, please let us know a few days in advance. If you do, I am sure more than just the chivo hounds will be grateful. Thanks for the great work you all put in on this amazing game.

At the risk of going off topic, a reply to Marcus: Heheh, it’s a Leaderboard thing. If you want to move up, you have to do more than the next guy. I don’t have all the others yet, but I’m working on them too.

I know we can do any five we wish, but speaking as a top 200 NA Achievement player (who by necessity must do all the daily achievements) I would appreciate it if I didn’t have to spend an hour every day doing crab toss. Some variety would be appreciated, even if it’s “steal 10 crabs” or something like that, which also happens to be in crab toss. However, if you’re going to encourage new content in the pve daily I might suggest doing something more like a “daily consortium/refugee” supporter instead. Thanks in advance to any devs who take the time to read or consider this post.
