I rolled a Mesmer as my first character, and still play him as my main at level 80. I’ve tried playing other classes but only Necromancer gets me close to the same satisfaction as Mesmer does. Is it impossible to faceroll people on a Mesmer like you can with thieves and warriors? Yes, but you can always dominate a fight if you know what your doing. As a Mesmer you are also very survivable in a 2 on 1, and are just as slippery as a Thief.
It’s been a while since I’ve done WvW, but my favorite combination is GS/Staff for the long range, and I’ve specced into 50% fall dmg (with chaos storm) and extra bounces. I go 10/0/15/15/30.
For sPvP my current favorite spec is 0/0/20/30/20, making sure to take all the traits that buff illusion and illusion shattering using Staff+Scepter/Sword. With this I can 1 v 1 anyone, and against stupid thieves that specialize in trying to one shot you in the back and then going invisible, you often just call it a draw and move on, you heal too quick for him to kill you and he runs away before you can get all the damage on him. The whole fight takes too long to really get anywhere so the winner is often who brings back up. Against 2 people it gets hard, it depends on how well they are at tracking you, in most cases you either have to just run or try to separate them.
Mesmers bring a ton to the table in terms of how versatile they can be, I find they can go from tank (Shatter and Vitality) to support (Staff+Scepter/Focus with 7-8-9 being large area effects, Time Warp as Ult) to heals (Mantras and Healing trait line) to main damage dealer (Power Build) with just a quick switch of traits and weapons.
I find the GS-Sword/Pistol build cliché, but it certainly a solid build for damage output, as it brings the highest damage Phantasms out, and quickly, and MH Sword 2 is good damage output and a good dodging tool.
Because a Mesmer is so versatile, and key to being successful with one is to spend time with it and experiment with all your options. Run around in PvE just killing stuff with different combos to find what you like better. For me, PvE worked best with Sword/Sword and Staff as the Offhand, the playstyle of being in their faces while always having the option of switching to staff, blinking away and putting on a shield when things got dicey just fit my personalty. Personally I don’t know how people keep saying Mesmer is terrible to level up in PvE, I found it to be the easiest, I would solo everyone that came my way, I could solo elites and the occasional champion sometimes without taking damage. It’s all in the clone management. The hardest moments in PvE were ones when NPCs didn’t fall for the clones and kept attacking me rather than my clones. Late Game PvE though I’ve just been using GS/Staff like I do in WvW. Mostly because I don’t have good swords yet but its really easy burst potential and I can still solo all the content I want.

I had a very similar thing happen to me around 1AM PST on 10/1/12, except mine said Taipei, Taiwan. I am the exact same as you with my passwords and conduct of keeping such a thing safe.
I am very glad GW2 has the email authentication system.
I also hope ANet keeps track of all login denies handed out and if anyone else has a very similar story, that ANet can try and see who’s the one who has been compromised. While I hope our two incidents are not connected, therefore ANet is not to blame, it is a scary thing to know someone in a foreign country not only knows your e-mail, but knows your password.
I ended up switching all information on every account that’s important to me >.> and hoping this is just an isolated incident with GW2.

I just got an e-mail asking for a log-in approval from Taipei, Taiwan…(Clearly not me)
I denied it, but is there anyway to track how they got a hold of my information, especially since I am extremely careful in regards to these types of issues….Also, when you deny a request, does ANet simply just block them or is there some sort of “response team” that looks into the incident?
And secondly, I think GW2 has the single worst customer support page, there is NO option to directly email Anet. like wtfbbqwtf? And if there is, its the single hardest thing to find. The support page should be more than just a lame FAQ on the basics. And having a clear, easy to access direct e-mail contact for ANet should be the 1 thing that any support page should have, even if its the only thing.

Hello, I was recently apart of a semi-serious guild, however I was unknowingly kicked for become less active than they wanted…I think. sad face
So, I am looking for a new guild.
I am currently on the server Isle of Janthir, though since I have no ties to the server, I am open to transfers.
Basically what I’m looking for in a guild:
-Must do organized / semi-organized WvW / sPvP (just getting a group together to zerg stuff in WvW is A-O.K. with me)
-Must be ok with casual status. (Again, I just started college, as long as your ok with that, that’s good. I try to be on for guild events, just notify me or have like some prior notice or something, I will always be upfront with my availability)
-Friendly / willing to group up even in PvE for dungeons or what-not. (I’m not super hardcore PvP, I am actually working on 100% completion when I’m bored)
Now, what I offer…
-I currently main a level 80 Mesmer with a full crafted exotic armor set.
-I am levels 400 in Cooking and Huntsman (I have all the insignias for Huntsman available AND willing to craft for anyone in Guild for free given they provide the mats) And I am currently working on my alt Leatherworking and Jewelcrafting. (About 200 for those, I can’t remember the exact number)
-I am a some-what experienced player, I’ve been playing MMOs for at least 5 years now, I know the ropes, most you’ll ever have to explain to me are tricks to dungeon bosses in dungeons I’ve never done before. I pick up quick regardless.)
-I am 18 if that counts for anyone, but you probably wouldn’t guess it just talking to me in-game (and no, that doesn’t mean I sound like a 6 year old lol.)
-Basically I just like to PvP in groups and try to help out Guildies when I can.

EDIT I do have Vent with a working mic though I do prefer listening and typing in chat, though I’m not afraid to talk if necessary. Just a weird quirk.
I actually find Mesmer’s AoE just fine.
I actually find greatsword to be the best for AoE, 2nd is staff. Why?
Greatsword has 3 abilities. Bouncing Blade, Illusionary Blade (#3 or w/e it’s called), AND #4, the illusionary beserker. Open with Bouncing Blade to get a few mobs together, and then summon the berserker to cleave through them all. Use your #3 to add icing on the cake.
Switch to staff to hit up Chaos Storm and your auto attack, which bounces to multiple enemies if you didn’t notice.
Now, I also specced into the trait where I get 1 extra bounce from bouncing abilities, and I find it awesome, because both Staff #1 and Greatsword #2 end up getting you an extra hit on your target.
I also specced into the trait where the shatter effect is created on you when use shatter clones as well as your clones.. It was probably my best idea ever. Just try it. Gather up a few mobs, summon three illusions, and then hit F1-4 as quick as possible, it’s great.
And if your an Asura, extra fun for you, because that first listed combo with Pain Inverter AND Radiation Field let you take 5 mobs on at once, and take very little damage.
You just gotta look at those other trait lines and experiment with the mesmer. It’s a class that lets you get as much out of it as you put in it. And leveling from 1 – 80 on mine I feel confident, and I can even solo open world champions.
Well, after my ragequit I sucked it up and re-fought him, thank goodness he didn’t bug out this time, but the fact that I have had multiple bugs on multiple quests causing me to redo them entirely, especially on hard/long ones like this are beyond frustrating.
So here I am, finally beating the single most annoying boss I have ever faced, in what I believe to be the last boss fight of the personal story, and as I deliver the final blow, nothing happens. No cut scene, no dialogue, no objective. The Eye just fades. Here I am, standing in an empty room, with my goal completed, orr saved, but wait, no, apparently I haven’t?
I don’t know what to do…Help?
And might I just add this is about the 5th or 6th time the game has either booted the whole server with no warning, or if there was one there was only a few seconds of warning, and bugged out literally moments before I was about to kill the final boss of a quest, dungeon, or event…one of those happening to be Zhaitan himself, another, the biggest boss of the biggest event of the Cursed Shore Zone. One series of this bugging outs made me redo a quest FOUR TIMES. The whole thing. Thank goodness that quest was one of the shorter ones, but I was supposed to escort Traherne, and he would literally just stop in the middle of the road and refuse to continue, even after I killed literally every mob in the instance.
I really don’t want to leave this quest and more REALLY don’t want to re-fight this boss. I killed it, fair and square, I sent the screenshot into my bug report. What can I do?
