I feel like the Traitline is great (except for the uninspired minors, they are un-impactful and easy to ignore) In PvE the hammer skills 2-5 are pretty great and the auto just needs a range increase to be in a nice place.
In PvP though I had to use Soldier Rifle or Cele condition because it feels like the scrapper was balanced around 1v1’s. Sure you have some mitigation in the form of a short block and an even shorter evade, but in order to survive in team-fight melees as an engineer you also need to fill almost all of your utility slots with defensive skills. This then leads to the Scrapper entering the fray, running around popping defensive CD’s and then dying without having contributed anything when you’re out of options. I’m not sure how I feel about scrapper other than incredibly worried because we only have ONE beta weekend to get this right. I don’t even want to talk about how embarrassingly bad the Gyro’s are. It just sucks because I had a feeling they wouldn’t be good and I really didn’t want to be right. ;_;
This is such a great suggestion, very well thought out! As a long-time engineer player I have to agree with everything you wrote. The hammer seems to be in a decent place, but the Gyro’s (especially the elite) have been such a disappointment to many. They feel like slightly better turrets, in fact they feel like what turrets should have been. I think out of all the elite specs, Scrapper’s utility skills will definitely be the least used.
I don’t have much to add to this post other than agreeing with the OP. I recently switched to thief because I’ve fallen in love with the gameplay for the first time after main-ing Engineer for 2 years. I just don’t like the +1 role that thief is assigned to in PVP, it should at least have one or two more options available to it!
Why take a skill that was already only used because there is literally nothing better, and nerf it even further out of existence? I understand the change was done with the intent on being fair, but does anyone actually think that the animations/damage of Necro axe pre-nerf were even close to fair?
I don’t know exactly how many total games I’ve played nor do i know exactly how many of them we’re a MASSIVE waste of time due to unbalanced teams (and by that I only mean the number of players on each team). With that said, it absolutely FEELS like every other game if not more is a crapshoot. I don’t spend more than two to three hours on the game everyday split between PVE and PVP I can get in 5-10 games a day, so maybe this isn’t as noticeable for those who play more, but kitten at least half of my games every day are 4v5’s or full premades. I’ve been trying to get friends into the game but they were completely turned off by the PVP after experiencing this three times in a row. Now I know there’s more to the game and that I’m probably using a selective bias, but I’d like to consider myself a reasonable guy. The pvp matchmaking system is so far from reasonable that I don’t understand how there hasn’t been some effort to fix this. If it were any other game (assuming GW2 pvp was its own game) where, let’s say, 25% of your games you are basically FORCED to lose, it would be completely unacceptable and I’m sure the game would tank if it wasn’t fixed immediately.
As it is now, queuing for pvp at an average or above MMR is quite simply a roll of the dice to decide whether or not you are going play the game for the next 5-10 minutes. Personally I don’t consider one-sided matches to be “playing the game”, granted there are those rare occasions where you can pull off a 4v5, i don’t think that is justification enough to say the system is fine. Sorry for the long rant, this has been bothering me for a very long time. I know I should offer alternatives to keep this constructive but I feel even the most rudimentary change to address this would go a very long way. I love your entire game Anet, so lets get past this hurdle and I can go back to blind devotion for you guys. <3

Oh my god Arena Net, been waiting for the change for a while. I can’t be thankful enough!!
“One of the reasons I can’t get into my engineer is that skins mean less on them. Weapon skins? You rarely see them if you use any kits. Back pieces? Same problem. That is 2-3 slots that you can’t meaningfully visually customize in a game about visual customization. There needs to be an option or something to turn off class specific gear.”
You are SPOT ON my friend. As an engineer main I’ve been raging over this for years now, anet pls.
I’d give a kidney, a leg, an arm, and anything that would leave me still able to play Guild Wars 2 with IF ONLY Arena Net could please address this “sooner” rather than “later”. It’s over 2 years into the game and engineer is hilariously underrepresented. Veterans would be much happier playing the class if it didn’t actively punish you for wanting to show off ANY of your hard earned weapon/back skins. (Which happen to be the most expensive and difficult to obtain skins in the game.)
Thank you OP for trying to raise awareness about this, I can’t believe there haven’t been more threads on this issue. I play Engi, and use Rifle 5 and EG 4 to get around a lot (those are our only leaps) and every SINGLE time i use either of those skill I get this awful screaming sound from my character. I don’t get it, he’s the one using the skills! More than all of this though, I can’t imagine how aggravating using the glider’s will be if our characters are constantly screaming :/
