Is it worth it to main Thief at this point?

Thief is one of those classes where you get better relying on frustration, no matter what your build is ^^

So if you are ready to get frustrated a lot for small but intense satisfaction, welcome

I second this. Frustration and dying a lot are part of the experience in learning how to thief. You slowly learn what to do and not to do by making mistakes here and there, until you find a playstyle and build that fit what you envision in playing it. But when you found that sweet spot, oh man does it feels good xD

I wanted to suggest just abolishing WvW or just do a hard reset on all servers altogether and start from the beginning, but I realized that people have paid/been paid real money and incentives to switch servers, and there will certainly be backlash and maybe even a riot among these paying customers. I don’t really think there’s anything ANet can do that will solve this problem once and for all. I can’t simply suggest such a rash suggestion considering I’ve only played for the last 3 months, while some others have played the mode from the start.

Too many do not want balanced match-ups and it shows when you play against them and they have no hope of loosing to you.

For some reasons, despite saying over and over that score doesn’t matter to them and that they are bored and fight is all that matters bla-bla, ppl still ball-up into a mega-omniblob (instead of, say, making 2 or 3 of them) and pvd to death. Could it be otherwise? yes it could. But do they even try? No, they do not.

People are largely responsible for caring about the score and “winning” for them is more fun than fair fights.

Yeah, it’s true. I notice zergblobs tend to just roll with the punches and cap everything they can to “keep themselves entertained”, and sometimes I told the rest to just abandon EB/EotM for a bit until the zergblob gets tired/bored/runs out of things to cap and leave, and then we’ll come back and cap back our keep once they’re gone. In EotM, one dilemma I noticed commanders tend to face when they have a large zerg is that they need to keep capping stuffs or even camp at certain towers/enemy keep to keep the zerg’s lust satisfied so that they don’t lose numbers. I have never been in a huge zerg in EB and any of the borderlands, but I can imagine the situation is pretty similar

Aigh, I guess you can’t please everyone and anyone with whatever you do. All this T1 and Europe servers complaints, and I’m here wondering why DH is still dead last in the NA servers even with the new pairings. Guess DH just sucks at/really doesn’t have enough people in WvW (probably the latter). Our server is cursed to doom anyone who are unlucky enough to be paired with us, woo~

I’ll have to retract my statements in the other threads that WvW needs more balanced matchups, because with whatever the servers themselves are doing and the inherent nature of the high-low population servers, balance is impossible. Players will work out a way to keep things leaning in their favor, no matter what is being done about it (even if the actions are questionable at times). This is the reality of WvW, just gotta accept it and move on

Don’t think I lost anything in the rollback, but then again I only grind for stuffs lately, so no biggie.

At least it didn’t cause a complete halt of the game in general, and for a first time in 4 years, that’s quite impressive. Also, at least the dev team is on their toes about the status of the game. Always loved stumbling across Gaile and some other devs in-game while doing guild races or just map roaming.

Though, I agree with what some has to say, just make an official announcement somewhere stating what happened, when, and what has been done to rectify the situation (preferably the client announcement screen). I only knew about this from mapchat when logging back in, and while I was surprised, I was also like “well, it’s an MMO problem, it happens”.

Returning player: Why play Thief?

A thief main here, and have been playing for 1 year so far. With the recent balance patch, thieves have the added advantage of innate venomsharing, which means you don’t need to equip the trait to share your venoms with your allies. How useful is this I’m not sure, especially since the radius is reduced and a few venoms have reduced stacks, but in PvE with lots of breakbars, it might be useful to share CC venoms with allies.

Also, the now empty venomshare trait is replaced with boon steals when attacking in stealth, which may be useful in PvP and WvW, though stealth skills now have a 1 sec cooldown between them.

Though from what I can gather, thief is now a class that requires a higher level of play skill as compared to before, with nerf after nerf every balance patch that really forces you to use whatever you have left. I admit my thief skills are rather meh, but I’ve seen very skilled stealth gankers in WvW. My personal opinion is also that I feel when it comes to stealthing, mesmers and scrappers are more useful.

To be honest, I feel rather useless being a thief in WvW because there’s not much that I can do with my skill (and lag) level, and I don’t dare try PvP, but I still have fun playing it, and the daredevil elite, in PvE. I love playing as a thief, regardless of what happens to the class in general

Or 100 random players quitting WvW because they get perma destroyed by these ultimate zergballs of lameness Arenanet created with this megastupid linking.

Seems like they will loose people anyway

Heh, yeah. There was one week where I stayed online in EotM almost 24/7, to farm the reward tracks and to at help any new faces that might come in needing the Gift of Battle. I almost pity those who only wanted that gift, having to experience the horror that is being murdered over and over again by blobs, even near our spawn points, being ganked by spawn campers. Seeing the wall of red text is not something a new person would want to see, and they usually bail immediately when they see that xD

Again, if WvW dies off eventually, I’ll be okay with it

@Kurowolfe SF and DH will never be tier1 servers, if they don’t get a lot of transfers (we have seen other servers get stacked in the past as well though). But if the matchups are balanced, then they should be able to have a fighting chance to win your matchup without having to face blobs as big as in tier1. And balanced matchups is all they need to make wvw fun again, or not?

I don’t mind not being in T1, I just wished the average number of players in each of the three sides in T4 at any one time be roughly equal. Right now, DH and SF is equal, so it’s an equal matchup between the two, but the third server(s), no matter what it is, almost always has at least 3-4 times the numbers for the other two, and usually 7x or more. Even in EotM it’s a rather similar situation. That Outnumbered buff is almost permanent for us xD

Balanced match-ups would be nice, yeah, but face it: judging from what I read so far, it’ll never happen. C’est la vie

Guess this means that Sorrow’s Furnace and Darkhaven and associated servers in T4 NA will never be able to hold out and maybe die someday. Noted.

Most people I know now go to EotM if they need the Gift of Battle, it’s more populated. I only started playing WvW recently, mostly because I wanted to add to our server’s meager numbers in the Borderlands and help out whenever I can. It’s an almost futile effort to be honest, no matter what time of the day. Linking may have its benefits, but it sure screwed us lower populated servers all the way to doomsville.

It’s sad too, because I honestly enjoyed the mass group PvP element there, and I did meet a lot of server friends who I enjoyed talking to while we got our kitten kicked and our main keep camped.

sigh There, finally I get to express my worries and lamentations. If WvW is truly dead, then I don’t mind anymore, I had my fun
