My concerns

after reading collin’s replies, he’s most likely right. the pvp in this game is amazing, the population is huge, people are happy and i’m just one kitten who doesn’t see all this.

pvp here feels hollow and the spvp in mists looks empty. i logged on and on my 3 guilds, there were a total of 4 ppl online including me.

but apparently the game has a huge pvp population. they’re probably all zerging in hot join but i can’t really call that ‘pvp’.

it’s nice to see the game’s objectively doing great despite what each individual player is seeing.

anyhow, i’ll be off again to other games.

so i log in after 8 monthkittenus from this game and i see the terrible bday present to compliment the terrible game. i wish this game hadn’t been called guild wars 2 as it has nothing to do with guild wars 1. should have been called World of Tyra or somehting and i would have known better than to waste 80 lvls in it.

GW2 as it is...

in order to understand what’s wrong with gw2 ‘high-end gear’, u need to have played gw1.

nobody wants to grind for those cosmetic upgrades in gw2 because the content is perceived as grind and it feels boring. in gw1 upgrades were also cosmetic but the content to achieve it was fun and challenging. i mean u needed to set up builds and look for decent players and u had to really pay attention to ur gameplay to have a smooth run. you could even make gold from winning pvp battles (no zergfest but actually real hard won battles). having ‘top cosmetic gear’ gave u social gratification. u were considered a good player. people looked up to u and u felt good about yourself.

getting legendaries in gw2 doesn’t prove anything besides time wasting. the content is very easy and you can be half asleep and still get your quests done. zerg rushing in wvw is not a display of skill. it’s natural that players feel that they’re forced into grinding.

gw2 lacks the need to improve and to be a better player. u don’t have to make specific builds, u don’t have to be efficient, u don’t have to socialize, u don’t have to use brain. just button mash all day every day and do your daily/monthly solo or with randoms and eventually u’ll get your legendary.

the lack of actual depth of this game coupled with needless crafting complexity and tokens and crap is its downfall.

Why Solo Queue is a Bad Idea

If you want to implement solo queue, you definitely have to make them unable to see current players in the roster. Else there would be syncing and dodging which goes against the whole idea of the solo queue.

they should have it like in LoL where there’s a penalty for dodging. lose points and can’t enter match for x minutes. if the player base if big enough, sync won’t be an issue anyway,

solo and duo players in 1 queue, 5v5 in team queue. player poll should be from all servers put together. different ladder for solo and team and everyone’s happy.

if you’d get long queue time with all servers polled together, it just means the pvp in the game is dead.

The staying power of GW2's PvP.

there’s not point in complaining about the pvp system in a 9+ month old game. the core of it isn’t gonna change. gw2 already has a player base, which is the wow/generic mmo people. that’s also why the camera works the way it does. in most generic mmos u have to rotate camera for los so they threw this in gw2 to make it familiar to those players. you have the button mashing feature in gw2 also to attract console players. Anet, like any other company, wants to maximize profit so they went the safe route of appealing to pve player from any other game.

despite all this, i believe that anet also wanted to have a successful pvp scene. but you can’t have both sadly. no matter how much we all dislike conquest, it’s the only way to have a resemblance of ‘balance’ in this game. once you do a bit of 1v1 u’ll fast come to realize that this game revolves around which class counters which rather than skill (assuming both players are similar in skill). simply put, this game isn’t made for competitive deathmatch scenarios because of the class mechanics and the removal of a dedicated healer.

to conclude, do yourself a favor and play some lol. it’s much more similar to gw1 than gw2 will ever be. it gives u a better pvp experience and u feel good about yourself when winning a match. who the hell wants to watch a counter get to 500 on cap points?

players spectate games that they enjoy playing. ppl get excited viewing skilled players play their favourite game and then comment on the builds/strats and so on.

gw2 pvp feels dead from a casual point of view. each time i log in, i can’t even bring myself to play. this is because the game is boring and hard to understand. sure the mechanics are kitten friendly, but all the running around, mindless jumping amid a cluster of animations and particles make this game hard to get into. half the time i have no idea wtf goes on when there are more than 2 ppl on my screen. this game makes the player feel lost.

gw2 will become an esport when it will be playable. yes, i dare to say that this game is unplayable in pvp because i can’t tell what’s going on. half the time it’s button mashing. i know that if people nolife in gw2 they’ll eventually get the hang of it but this is a problem. your esport spectators are the casuals. if the casuals find the game boring to play and hard to understand, you have no esport.

i’m not gonna play or spectate a kittenty game with a boring game mode like conquest which has a cluster of crap obstructing my vision and my understanding of what’s going on. the players i know left this game for the same reasons.

since anet is such a moba fan, they should learn from LoL. the game looks crispy and you don’t feel lost. each animation is easy to notice and you still know what’s going on in team fights.

Sorry lads. Can’t agree. Gw1 was atrocious. Point and click, No jumping and had a high learning curve that unless u played from the start it was almost impossible to make any sense of the game without outside website information.

It also looked extremely weird watching your characters move. The skill system was interesting, and the game modes were fun but that’s about it.

GW2 seriously lacks systems and infrastructure, but outside of that it is light years ahead of GW1. It certainly is far from perfect and quite different but here’s a red hot tip you can take to the bank, Arena Net knows some of you will dislike this game.

That’s why they didn’t shutdown GW1. Feel free to go back and play that.

Whilst your on your way there, take your whinging with you.

Gw2 isn’t a shooter where you have to target. How does jumping help?

Some ppl are just easily impressed I guess.

On another note, I guess you never figured out how to keybind WASD to move in gw1? I guess you’re right about the game. It’s impossible to make sense of it. It requires thinking, looking at UI options and so on. No button mashing. It’s gotta suck

i find it amusing that you’re all arguing about what is wrong in gw2 pvp nearly 1 year after release. do you really think that the ppl who were testing this game before it was released didn’t point out the exact same issues you guys are complaining about? the game you have now simply shows that the devs wanted to have this shallow game full of animation particles. they’re perfectly happy with with it.

i’m not even gonna bother making suggestions for improvement because it’s futile. the core of the game can’t be changed. either you like it or you don’t.

i’d go as far to say that a game like LoL is more of a sequel to gw1 pvp that gw2 will ever be.
