Still bugged.

I’m sitting on the airship for 30 minutes now. The Giants just stand there, frozen, like the airship. It won’t progress.

Exact same thing happening to me.

HoT prep advice for a scrub thief

I guess my question is this: Does anyone see zerk being replaced in the future, by another set? I’m wanting to plan for the future and I’ve always done reasonably well in full zerk. When I die, I realize that its an operator deficiency, and I learn from it. I’m used to getting bested by players better than me and I’m ok with that. Just wondering if anyone feels that our new elite spec somehow changes the meta.

HoT prep advice for a scrub thief

Hey folks. I’ve been playing about 6 or 7 months and I have one of each class to 80 but I really only want to play thief. I’ve made my thief full ascended with zojja’s/zerk gear. Weapons, armor, trinkets, everything all ascended zerk. I usually run d/d and sb and sometimes some d/p too. I play pve and wvw and I’ve done ok so far.

My question is about the future, with HoT and future updates. With the new Dare Devil spec, should I be considering any other armor/stats besides zerk? I have plenty of resources so I can build new equips, but I’m curious, is it worth my time/resources to build a 2nd set of gear and if so, which?

The new spec looks awesome, and I’m really looking forward to it but I feel like I should still run zerk equips. If I were to start making backup gear of another set, which should I choose, if any, assuming I plan to play a staff daredevil?

Thief getting Physicals and Staff

I know the pro rifle camp will hate me but I’m excited about the idea of an acrobatic melee staff thief. I have visions in my head of smacking people with a stick all Donatello style. Whether or not that brings anything to the table that thieves were lacking remains to be seen but the way my imagination takes it, perhaps we might see a couple staff skills (like twirling the staff around us defensively) that may provide us with a bit of stability and help us hold a point better. In my minds eye I see staff as being both acrobatic and providing some degree of stability but less access to stealth. Who knows what we’ll really end up seeing but this where my mind goes with the thought of thief staff.

Hey, thanks for posting this. I read this thread earlier today when I was at work and I was itching to get home and give it a try. I’ve been at it for a couple hours now and I’m having a lot of fun with it. I’m not very good at it but then again I’m not a very good thief in general even though its all I play. I’m going to keep at it and maybe with some practice I’ll get a better hang of it. I think part of my problem is that I’m not used to d/p and all the utilities are different then what i’m used to so I’m trying to break old habits as I learn it. All in all, it’s fun and its a change of pace for me. I think I may stick with this a while but as someone else mentioned I wonder if perhaps I should trade CS trait line for Trickery. Either way, thanks for the share.

I’m hardly a hardcore player. I too have a job, family, and kids but when I play, I play hard. I think a good challenge is fun. Picking myself up off the dirt and rethinking my strategy is what makes a game fun in my opinion. I get that my opinion isn’t popular but that’s just me. I’m the kinda player that keeps at it, even after being knocked down time and time again. Am I a skilled player? Far from it. I just like being presented with a challenge because the feeling of finally succeeding makes the game for me.

Really, there’s no need to call people that. It’s ok to disagree with me but let’s keep it civil. I hopped in game 10 minutes before Teq event started. I quickly set some traits and skills that I thought would be useful and headed to north boats. The whole event went off without a hitch. Did it take a bit longer, Yes. Could the rewards have been better? For sure. That being said, it was fun and I enjoyed the change.

Before Teq was faceroll easy. It was almost mindless and automatic (Although not as bad kittenterer/Megadestroyer). Now, a bit of preparation and organization is needed. The possibility of failure should be there otherwise it’s just a matter of logging in and spamming some keys. That’s hardly fun.

Edit – Not sure why Shatter-er is filtered, but oh well.

Hahahaha, and here I was the selfish thief maneuvering around the red circles trying to apply my damage without risking myself too much. I stabbed, dodged, and stabbed some more. If we had any amazing heroics, I missed it due to being sidetracked by the whole…you know…surviving bit.

I agree that Teq now has very little room for error but he’s very much doable. I think he could use some tweaking, but I do appreciate that he’s a bit more of challenge now.

I dunno, maybe I’m different but I don’t care for bosses where I just stand on a ledge and spam a skill or two (Shatterer/Megadestroyer). I like a bit of challenge.

I just finished Teq an hour or so ago and while I did notice a difference, I felt that it was a bit funner. Took a bit longer to finish and I was on my toes a bit more than usual but we still got the job done. I rather like the change. That being said, I’d like to see him bring a few new attacks to the table like maybe a tail-sweep that knocks people back or some such. Something to mix up the predictable-ness of the battle a bit.

I mean, as a brand new player without an ounce of knowledge, imagine your browsing the website considering the game. Oh, I can buy HoT and get the core game free, but what are these living story episodes? Do I need to buy those too? How much does it cost to have everything I need to get a good solid start? I can totally see why they decided to bundle the core game with the expac to help new players settle in. I know for me, when I’m browsing Steam sales I tend to pick up bundles. I just want to pay one flat price to experience all of the game. I don’t want to be confused with how many expacs do I need to buy. A new player to any game is not familiar with the lingo or terminology. Keeping it simple is the best way to get new buyers.

Lambo.1405

As I said in another thread, I have no problem with them discounting the core game for new players, or having a starter combo pack that heavily discounts it, but I still feel like including it with the expansion, with no discount for existing players, is asking me to re-purchase a game I already bought. They could sell the core for $1 and the expansion for $49 and as long as I didn’t have to pay that $1 I’d be ok with it. Not overjoyed, but at least they’re paying something for the game I paid $80 for, and I’m not being asked to pay a purchase price that includes the value of that game again. Instead they’re going this route, so I won’t buy it. That’s all I’m saying. If other MMOs are doing it, I wouldn’t make a purchase from them either. I’ll just keep spending my money on expansion episodes for The Secret World, since their pricing methods don’t make me feel devalued as an existing customer.

I’m not sure I fully follow you on this. They are not asking you to pay for the core game again. They are charging 50 bucks for HoT and are also bundling the core game for new players to ease the transition into the game. I’m pretty certain that their goals are to remove hurdles and barriers for new folks to step in and play. I think that’s good for everyone! For example, I’ve never played WoW but I did have an interest, but when I browsed the site and saw soooo many expansions I decided not to bother. As a new scrub, I didn’t know what I needed to buy (at the time) to get a good start, so I didn’t bother getting started at all!

I’m all for bringing new players in because ultimately it’s better for everyone. Just my opinion.

Yeah, I do kinda feel that build diversity will be taking a hit, but we’ll see. I can’t judge until I’ve seen how things work.

I’m a new player and I picked up the core game on sale for 15 bucks a few months ago. I wasn’t expecting much given that I don’t really enjoy mmo’s but boy was I pleasantly surprised. I’ve found that I really enjoy the game and have 5 characters at level 80. I’m not sure how many hours I’ve sunk into the game but I feel that my adventures so far have been an awesome value for the money. When they announced the HoT bundles I wasn’t upset and I’m more than willing to pay for the expac because I feel confident that I’ll get many more hours of entertainment for my dollar.

Maybe I have different expectations than others but I grew up with NES/SNES and I’ve always felt that if I pay 50 bucks for a game than I should be able to expect at least 40 hours of entertainment. GW2 has given me much much more. Now I know that my expectations are different than others but I remember as a kid in school I saved my lunch money every day, skipped my meals, until I had enough to purchase FF6.

I feel that in terms of bang for your buck, GW2 is unmatched.

Despite being less than pleased about p/p thief being removed I am optimistic about the changes. I’m very interested to see how the community improvises, adapts, and overcomes all the changes and I’m looking forward to see what the new meta’s turn out to be.

I know I’ll miss p/p thief. It seems that a lot of the traits needed are gone, like ricochet.
I know a lot of people find certain thief builds annoying but I don’t think p/p was one of them. It wasn’t overly powerful but it was lots of fun.

That’s pretty much my thoughts. My only reason for waiting to purchase is that I’ve already spent heaps of money this month on gems, games, and other entertainment. I’ll be buying in a couple weeks when I can. Gotta stick to my budget.

I fully intend to purchase HoT but I think I’ll wait until it goes live. Its not that I think the price tag doesn’t justify the value or anything of the sort, it’s just that I don’t have the extra money to spend right away and I don’t think waiting a few weeks is really going to matter much. In the end, I’ll buy it when I can swing it.

I am from NA but I started playing on an EU server (Arborstone) and I had no problems. I didn’t notice any problems with ping or connection at all. The one problem I did have was just time zone difference. I was usually active at times when most of the folks in my guild were sleeping. Other than that, I had no issues.
